Such a racy little film, full of naked shots of Kathleen Turner, and not even a single gratuitous shot of his ass? He did show his dick a year earlier in Altered States so was he afraid the public would grow tired of seeing his penis?
Why was there no nudity from William Hurt in Body Heat?
by Anonymous | reply 61 | April 7, 2019 12:21 AM |
I don't remember any full shots of Turner, but I haven't seen the movie in 20 years.
Too bad Hurt was/is so crazy because he's an excellent actor. Wasn't his stepfather Henry Luce?

I've often heard people say he's a nightmare to work with and not a very nice person off-screen. Does anyone have any William Hurt horror stories to share with us?
by Anonymous | reply 2 | August 16, 2015 1:20 PM |
Considering his nudity in other films it's surprising he didn't have at least one ass shot in Body Heat. Turner just showed her tits in it nothing more. Hurt had such a great body of work in the 80s. I really never thought he would sell out and do shit like Lost In Space and other B films. Didn't Marlee Matlin say in her book he knocked her around and was fuming when she won the Oscar. Ironically he presented her with it. I think she said he was jealous success came to her so fast.

We saw Hurt's cock in Broadcast News, in shadow.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | August 16, 2015 1:47 PM |
Do you know it was freezing cold when they made Body Heat? Hurt and Turner had to suck on ice cubes between takes so their breath would not show in the cold.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | August 17, 2015 3:57 AM |
It was filmed in November in Florida. It wouldn't have been freezing then.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | August 17, 2015 4:17 AM |
Kasdan kept the camera pretty high, but I seem to recall seeing some of Hurt's pubes.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | August 17, 2015 4:48 AM |
Would have made that film so much better
by Anonymous | reply 8 | August 17, 2015 4:52 AM |
He has a nice ass shot in Broadcast News and Lois Chiles gets to slap it.
A nice ass shot in Body Heat would have been better, though. Still a fantastic movie. Like Against All Odds (the thread I posted about Jeff Bridges) both films have great chemistry between their lead stars, though Body Heat is a superior film.

Kevin Kline made a crack about him once at a Big Chill reunion. Hurt was the only cast member not there and Kline said it is appropriate since he wasn't really there when he made the film either. I never knew if Kline meant due to drug use or what. Hurt had a really public child custody battle that seemed to derail his career.

For R6. People like you piss me off. Why would I make up such a detail? So you googled your way to feeling right, though of course you know nothing about the temperatures or conditions on a film set over 30 years ago. Do you have Asperger's Syndrome?
"In order to make the crew feel comfortable during the filming of Body Heat’s many steamy sex scenes, Hurt and Turner personally introduced themselves to every member of the crew. When they did so, they were completely naked.
In her autobiography, Turner remembered Hurt’s hard-parting lifestyle:
In those days, he was pretty wild. He drank a great deal and took a lot of recreational drugs – he loved those magic mushrooms. He loved women, too; I don’t know how many he went through during filming. Bill always wanted to stay in character . . . [He] thought I wasn’t taking my acting seriously enough.
Although the movie was supposed to take place during a heat wave, it was actually shot in freezing cold. The actors had to pretend to be sweltering when actually they were chilled to the bone. In order to prevent their breath from fogging in the cold, Turner and Hurt would suck on ice cubes before speaking. They also had to be sprayed down with water to simulate sweat."

I seem to remember a scene in Body Heat where Turner dragged him around by his penis.
Ken Russell said, when he heard Hurt was dating a deaf woman (Matlin), "that's a marriage made in heaven" (because she couldn't hear him rambling on). Russell said he was a pain in the ass and talked total shit.
He was an excellent actor but is a couple of sandwiches short of a picnic and apparently a mean drunk as well.

Isn't John Heard's story pretty much the same as Hurt's, including the nasty customers odd battle and mean drunk charges?
by Anonymous | reply 13 | August 17, 2015 7:17 AM |
Hopefully not as mean a drunk as George C. Scott.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | August 17, 2015 7:21 AM |
Does he still drink?
by Anonymous | reply 15 | August 17, 2015 8:11 AM |
I never heard of John Heard, r13.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | August 17, 2015 11:33 AM |
John Heard's nasty custody battle was with Melissa Leo.a
by Anonymous | reply 17 | August 17, 2015 7:20 PM |
John Heard apparently stalked Melissa Leo. I think she had to get a restraining order.
Which is a shame - I thought Heard was hot as fuck in Cat People. When he tied up Nastassja Kinski and fucked her - Meow.

R3 Hurt told her in the limo parer that night that the only reason she won was because the Academy felt sorry for her.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | August 17, 2015 7:49 PM |
Hurt knocked his first wife Marybeth around when he was a struggling actor and was doing pretty well. And there are, of course, those allegations of him beating up Marlee Matlin.

Does anyone get naked in Body Heat? Doesn't a guy get fucked with a nightstick in the film?
by Anonymous | reply 22 | September 10, 2015 3:51 AM |
He didn't show his cock because it couldn't live up to the description in the script (delivered by Ted Danson, paraphrasing what the little girl said)
by Anonymous | reply 23 | September 10, 2015 3:56 AM |
What a true hasbeen. He was a HUGE icon back then.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | September 10, 2015 4:00 AM |
That is "Crimes of Passion" R22.
Lawrence Kasdan movies like Body Heat seemed to always just have female nudity. Sort of like The Big Chill. None of the guys got naked YET G showed her teeny tiny titties while crying in the shower. That scene made me gay.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | September 10, 2015 4:52 AM |
How dare there be anxiety about showing penises 30+ years ago in Hollywood!!!! I demand this reverse-sexism that happened three decades past be stopped right now!
by Anonymous | reply 26 | September 10, 2015 5:01 AM |
r26 is an idiot.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | September 10, 2015 5:06 AM |
R26 is parodying hyper-vigilant, overly sensitive feminist Social Justice Warrior types, R27.
And those types often ARE idiots.

Funny my friends were talking about this movie tonight and they seemed to remember Hurt nude, yet I don't. Is there an unrated version out there?
by Anonymous | reply 33 | April 6, 2019 7:14 AM |
Kim Zimmer volunteered to do a nude scene in Body Heat...Repeatedly! At one point Kasdan finally had to say, 'Kim, put the damn thing away!'

Is this the film where I can see William Hurt's feet?
by Anonymous | reply 35 | April 6, 2019 12:11 PM |
Who wants to see his pasty dong? The only thing that recommends it is that pube shaving hadn't started when this movie came out. He's in a category with Ben Affleck and Jimmy Smits: "How did these motherfuckers ever get hired to be actors?"
by Anonymous | reply 36 | April 6, 2019 12:44 PM |

The last time I saw him in anything was when he guest starred in a season of "Damages" about 10 years ago. He's an excellent actor but the severe case of assholism basically killed his mainstream career.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | April 6, 2019 1:24 PM |
I read - on DL - that they trimmed down his role on Damages because he was so difficult.
He was featured as a major player early on but then became a footnote by the season’s end.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | April 6, 2019 1:51 PM |
Hollywood will keep putting an asshole drunk in a lead role as long as his movies make money; Hurt suffered a string of flops in the early 90s (The Doctor; Until the End of the World; Mr. Wonderful; Second Best; etc.) and has since been relegated to supporting roles ever after.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | April 6, 2019 1:54 PM |
What does Hurt do that he is such an asshole?
by Anonymous | reply 42 | April 6, 2019 1:58 PM |
He hurts people, r42
by Anonymous | reply 43 | April 6, 2019 2:28 PM |
Where are the nude shots from Altered States? I couldn't find any.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | April 6, 2019 2:36 PM |
I sent so many people to see "Body Heat" when it was released in 1981.
Around that same time, Ted Danson was The Aramis Man in print and television ads.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | April 6, 2019 3:04 PM |
I read that once Hurt grabbed Matlin’s arm roughly when she stopped to sign an autograph for someone. “You’re an ACTRESS, not a fucking MOVIE STAR!”. He signed to her, allegedly.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | April 6, 2019 3:09 PM |
Part of it may have been the Jack Valenti-controlled MPAA, which was very squeamish about male nudity. Male genitals still get flashing glimpses in American-made films. You also may see more male nudity in violent smash-em-up movies, but any "sexy" movie would definitely get the dreaded NC-17 if they showed penis.

My partner is very good friends with Marlee. Man does she hate Hurt. She's over it now. Happily married to cop. A bunch of kids. But do NOT bring up that Hurt asshole.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | April 6, 2019 3:44 PM |
I liked his work a lot in his prime, and he deserves - you're slipping, bitches - a respectful DL nod for playing gay in 'Kiss Of The Spider Woman.'
by Anonymous | reply 50 | April 6, 2019 4:50 PM |
I always got the impression that Hurt wasn't acting in "Big Chill". "Body Heat" is probably the best of Kasdan's films which tend to remind me of high gloss tv movies with obvious plots.
Hurt is related to the Lucxes by his mother's remarriage. She was the wife of kinky Henry Luce III until her death. Luce was accused of molesting his step daughters by his final wife and sometime mistress before that, Leila Hadley, herself a collasal piece of work. I'm guessing it was one fuckedup family.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | April 6, 2019 6:08 PM |
But he did it badly, R50. I hated that movie.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | April 6, 2019 7:16 PM |
"Body Heat" is one of those films that's literally "atmospheric".
As in "Vertigo", where you think you can feel the cold fog-kissed air of San Francisco on your skin, in "Body Heat" you swear you can feel the hot steamy my air in your skin, scented with sea foam and jungle rot, with whiffs of cigarette butts and stale beer in the populated areas. It's like you're there, sweating in the humidity, it's amazing that it was actually cold.

Who's the idiot who thinks we don't get freezes in Florida?
by Anonymous | reply 54 | April 6, 2019 7:31 PM |
Some of us live in other regions of the country, R54, and have no reason to visit Florida.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | April 6, 2019 7:42 PM |
its alwasy been more acceptable to show female nudity versus male, and even more so in 1980 when Body heat was in production.

Have been in Tampa in February and froze. Florida really sucks.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | April 6, 2019 8:58 PM |
He also showed his dick for a microsecond in "Broadcast News."
by Anonymous | reply 58 | April 6, 2019 9:01 PM |
Hurt is one of the meanest and most disagreeable American actors. No one wants to work with him in Hollywood or on Broadway, and so he has to do mostly piddly productions in Portland, OR, and even there no one wants to work with him.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | April 6, 2019 9:02 PM |
He was naked recently in "Goliath," that Billy Bob series on Amazon. I liked Season 1 of it.
His face (and part of his body?) is hideously burned in it, but there's a shower scene with ass in it, IIRC.
