Which Louise Did You Prefer

The "Weezie" with the pulled back hair on "All In The Family," and the first seasons of "the Jeffersons"? You know where Weezie was funny and "down home" kind of a girl.

Or

The Louise with her carefully coiffed hair and worked at "the HELP CENTER." of the later years of "the Jeffersons"

None

by Anonymousreply 1August 13, 2015 3:03 PM

This really should have been a poll.

by Anonymousreply 2August 13, 2015 3:04 PM

That's the HELP CENT-AH!

by Anonymousreply 3August 13, 2015 3:04 PM

Oh, and it's the "Help Centah".

by Anonymousreply 4August 13, 2015 3:05 PM

Beat me to it, R3.

by Anonymousreply 5August 13, 2015 3:06 PM

I liked it when she was a an uptight hectoring bitch.

by Anonymousreply 6August 13, 2015 3:14 PM

When I was little, I always thought she was saying HEALTH Center.

by Anonymousreply 7August 13, 2015 3:16 PM

She was much more interesting on All in the Family.

by Anonymousreply 8August 13, 2015 3:17 PM

For the longest time, I thought that The Help Center was located in the lobby/first floor of their apartment building.

by Anonymousreply 9August 13, 2015 3:19 PM

That bitch Mrs. Van Morris beat me to the wig I wanted, AGAIN!

by Anonymousreply 10August 13, 2015 3:19 PM

I agree. The earlier Louise was more interesting. Still enjoyed the show, though, no matter how many times she said "George."

by Anonymousreply 11August 13, 2015 3:27 PM

Isabel Sanford had a very odd delivery. The words she choose to emphasize seemed to be very random, and it got worse as time went on.

But man, she is one of those people that is just pure television. Just perfect for the medium. Like James Garner. She belonged on TV.

by Anonymousreply 12August 13, 2015 3:32 PM

She was a terrible actress who over-enunciated her words. Awful, awful, awful.

by Anonymousreply 13August 13, 2015 4:20 PM

Later in the series, she adopted the "Bea Arthur" comedy delivery system. Say a punchline, then stare off into space like a zombie waiting for the laughter to subside.

by Anonymousreply 14August 13, 2015 4:39 PM

I loved her in both incarnations. She did have a strange intonation, but it never seemed unnatural to me.

by Anonymousreply 15August 13, 2015 4:53 PM

So true r12 and r13 -- and then when they finally gave her a pity Emmy after many years, she was all resentful as if she were Meryl Streep.

by Anonymousreply 16August 13, 2015 4:58 PM

I'm not saying she was a great actress, but she was prefect for the medium of television and I can't even put my finger on why. I like her better than Florida Evans.

by Anonymousreply 17August 13, 2015 5:01 PM

Unlike other shows with the "harpy wife/idiot husband" format, Louise was a fun, likable character. And I liked her Bea Arthur slow burn reactions, they were always funny.

by Anonymousreply 18August 13, 2015 5:05 PM

Well, her TV husband was gay, so the transition of her appearance was inevitable really.

by Anonymousreply 19August 13, 2015 5:29 PM

[quote]Well, her TV husband was gay, so the transition of her appearance was inevitable really.

She was also 21 years older than he was.

by Anonymousreply 20August 13, 2015 5:34 PM

What proof is there that Shermy was gay?

by Anonymousreply 21August 13, 2015 6:59 PM

Back in the early 80s, the National Enquirer did a story on this. It doesn't prove anything, but the rumors have been out there.

by Anonymousreply 22August 13, 2015 7:03 PM

Both were good, but I liked Kasey Rogers a bit more than Irene Vernon.

by Anonymousreply 23August 13, 2015 7:06 PM

When Marla Gibbs (Florence) showed up, she sucked all the ghetto out of the rest of the show. She was good but became tedious.

by Anonymousreply 24August 13, 2015 7:15 PM

r22

Rumor based on innuendo, well that's good enough for me.

by Anonymousreply 25August 13, 2015 8:03 PM

I liked the one that had the two watermelons stuffed down her blouse.

by Anonymousreply 26August 13, 2015 8:06 PM

Early years, especially when she would square off against Mother Jefferson. And with Mike Evans' Lionel.

by Anonymousreply 27August 13, 2015 8:14 PM

[quote]And with Mike Evans' Lionel.

Who left to work on Good TImes

by Anonymousreply 28August 13, 2015 8:21 PM

R27 yeah Mother Jefferson was the best thing about the show. After she left it wasn't that good.

by Anonymousreply 29August 13, 2015 8:22 PM

The first five years of The Jeffersons were the best. When they were still fish out of water still trying to become acclimated to the upper east side. Isabel was great in these episodes. After about 1981 the show was more miss than hit and became tedious and annoying and they lost their edge and the racial aspect.

by Anonymousreply 30August 13, 2015 8:33 PM

I think the stupidest part was when Florence moved in with them. It didn't make any sense.

by Anonymousreply 31August 13, 2015 8:36 PM

Never watched this show.
