Is there anything left of the old trendy, edgy 1980s vibe left?
What's the East Village of New York like these days?

no. wiped clean.

If you go far enough east (alphabet city -- past Avenue A) it gets pretty bad. Lots of public housing there along the East River. The rest of the East Village is normal...not as nice/upscale as the West Village.

Gentrification went nuclear in the East Village. Any remaining stores and enclaves are the exception today. Even Trash & Vaudeville that survived from 1975 is forced to move from St Marks Place.

It's half NYU dorm, half financial industry douchebro housing. Does that answer your question?

"The Pyramid Club" with Eye of Horus and moon and stars? Coincidence? I think not.

R5 Who's suggestion was that and did he make it to Hollywood or into NYC fashion?

There's a Marc Jacobs on every corner. To put it mildly, not the EV I remember from the 70s.
I used to go there to visit this amazing herptile shop run by a Puerto Rican guy. Getting to the shop could be an experience.

Are Ave. C and D still dangerous? I heard Ave. B has been gentrified.

R7 Marc Jacobs Illuminati imagery? coincidence? I think not.

I think not, therefore I am not.

Same that always has been and always will be - a West Village wannabe.

R11 That was way harsh.

It all went downhill when Jaffa Cafe closed.

Manhattan is a dump. Brooklyn is Manhattan's dump. I was just there, so you can trust me.

R14 Is just taking a big dump.

R4's description is dead on.

New York City is entirely over. As is off a cliff kind of over. You know when Anna put Kim on the cover of 'Vogue'? Like that, only more Ovah. Like being in a midwestern mall.
As in Done.

Trash and Vaudville was way overpriced in the first place, I wanted to buy something there to give them business but I didn't fancy anything and the shoes were all overpriced.
I have gone past ave A in years and will never do so. I never went there before it was fancy like now.
There is still lots of drugs and druggies in that park there.

R17 Where do you recommend people go if not NYC? It's still the most cultured place the US has to offer, no?
