There was a high profile killing of an old lady bird watcher there in 2012. It was still pretty popular as recent as then. It's relatively recent it's fallen off. And like R1 said hook up apps have made that kinda thing somewhat obsolete with a lot less risk. Any homo in NYC worth banging has a smart phone.

It's a shame that it's not what it was even 5 years ago. I can see why public cruising might not be appealing to the people who really, really like Grindr, et al., but for me there's something about the thrill of discovering a hot, hung dude who's just my type, in a cruising area, that cannot be replicated with a hookup app. Especially when you often spend DAYS trying to hook up with a guy online. In the park, it can happen in seconds.

I don't really miss that scene. I do miss the Works that was at 81st and Columbus not far from there. Great place for drink an occasional hook up after work on the way home. It's some damn Pizza Uno now or some chain. NYC sadly is turning into a big strip mall.

Shenanigans went on during daylight hours because it was more overgrown than it is now. I think there used to be fewer officers patrolling it back then, too.

Mind you, I've still gotten action there during the broad day, within the past few years. It's really too risky, though, and the pickin’s are slim.

Can't say i miss it since it wasn't my scene. But i do miss the Works that wasn't far from their on 81st and Columbus. Where was the action at the Waterworks? I have a friend who told me he used to "get laid" there. Was there a back room, or a dark corner, or just a busy bathroom?

I never noticed much in the place. There was no back room, it was just a long corridor with with a nice bar. Perhaps the bathroom downstairs but never really saw much going on there then checking out the dick before a call was made if you measured up to take it home. That said i was only there two or 3 times a month and typically the happy hour not late night crowd.

This guy I know thru work implied that he hooks up in Fort Tryon Park by the Cloisters, has anybody heard anything about that? I have always been curious what it'd be like to do something like that but I'm kind of a chickenshit

I have a friend who used to work for a stadium. He gave me a DVD that the employees there circulated that was essentially a compilation of people having sex throughout the park. Mostly hetero couples, but it was fun to watch all these people thinking they were being discreet without realizing that there were cameras everywhere and that it'd be passed around.

LOL..i assumed as much but always covered so i wasn't ever really worried. Couple of dudes not far way obviously figured it out since they just gave us a thumbs up. We weren't going to stop at that point.
