That photo has been posted all over the internet so many times it's ridiculous.
It was even in The Daily Mail.

The 70s were ugly but they weren't that ugly which you can see in tv shows and movies of the period.

Many people laughed at people who dressed like that in the 70s.
Some people think we all just took it for granted.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | August 3, 2015 12:24 AM |
Yes, most people didn't really dress like that. Blame the clothing manufacturers and the professional style setters. The general public didn't demand those looks.

So many belle bottoms in those ads.

People's visions of certain eras get so distorted with time....they pick the most extreme elements.
All this ABBA business.
No one who was even the tiniest bit hip would EVER have bought a record by ABBA.
They were a very bad joke.

I kind of life ALL of them

There was a great 70s thread a few years ago...wonder if it's still in the archives.
Unfortunately many of the links are now duds...but it was so good. I was proud of DL. It really captured the 70s.
Here it is...

The black guy's outfit isn't that bad, and no one would turn down the hot studs in the first photo even if they were dressed like that now. What's unfortunate is that there are similar styles to that last one for men today. Fucking high fashion.

The '70s weren't our best fashion decade.

The sweater on the biker on Pic 13 is very nice.

My high school science teacher had a green leisure suit from Sears like the one pictured there. He wore it and several similar ensembles regularly. Unfortunately, I went to high school in the mid-80s and his clothes were not only hideous but conspicuously out of style by several years.

#34 teal with triangles went on to star in a mystery called The Case of the Packed Pouch.

'My high school science teacher had a green leisure suit from Sears like the one pictured there.'
So did my geography teacher...but he had a fantastic ass in his tight 70s pants gave me major hard-ons.

That's gay porn legend Gordon Grant in the long red satin pants. The half faced one was just a gay fantasy who never partook in the man on man adventures GG participated in. He showed his naked body in several photo shoots but was killed at a very young age on his motorcycle. I think his name was Mike something or other.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | August 3, 2015 4:56 PM |
No, his name was Stoner. aka Bill Cable. He did Playgirl etc...
by Anonymous | reply 22 | August 3, 2015 5:16 PM |
the bloke in the red trousers is so fucking sexy
by Anonymous | reply 23 | August 3, 2015 5:31 PM |
"Gay porn legend" that 98% have never heard of and/or was before our time. But yes he is hot!

The black guy in the "Slack Power" slacks has a huge cock!
by Anonymous | reply 28 | November 17, 2020 10:29 PM |
And how does the average obese guy in Bermuda shorts, polo shirt over huge belly or t-shirt with the favorite name of a football team, backwards baseball cap and ugly sneakers look these days?

To be fair, a good third of those photos are illustrations from knitting patterns. So, not something that was being sold off the rack. Instead, it was something your grandma or girlfriend knitted you for Christmas. It wasn't just articles for guys, either - women's clothing and even knitted and crocheted toy patterns frequently veered into the absurd.
There could be a hilarious thread just on gruesome knitting and crochet patterns.

There was an engineering professor at the University of Arizona who was still wearing his 70's outfits in the 2000's. I saw him walking down the sidewalk with a brown shirt, brown slacks and a plastic white belt one day.
