Sam Hunt, unbelievably HOT country music artist!
I had heard a couple of his songs, as well as a few he co-wrote for other artists (he's good) but did NOT realize he was a former football player who looks like a taller, more rugged David Beckham.
Just watch the video. I am off to look for shirtless pics!

Like his hair cut? How many country guys walk around with the kinds of hair in that video? I'm hearing pining echoing everywhere.
Problem with popular music today is that pop is overwhelmingly influenced by hip hop. If you can't work that into your sound and you want to be big then you go country because that is the only audience that still allows an artist to be unselfconsciously romantic or vulnerable or fun or anything that isn't hip hop.

No shit. The line between "Country" and "Pop" is so blurred that I actually think that Florence + the Machine's "Ship To Wreck" would be a perfect Country song with a different arrangement.
After the bridge, where it is just her and an acoustic guitar, it would fit on any pop-country station.

He is not a country singer. I love country music and he is no country singer. He is what happens when record executives -who don't know or really like real country music- find a pop singer they can label country and sell to females. Taylor Swift was the first and now him. He is not a great singer or writer . They are selling his difference. That ain't country Hoss and it is an insult to the genre of country. He wouldn't survive in the pop world so he is willing to cheapen the name of country to become famous. And country is a willing pimp.
And just because I like country does not make me a right wing conservative asshole.

They really do need to separate new country from old country and just have 2 different country music genres. At least then people would stop whining that someone who sings new country doesn't sound country enough. Face it, the number of people who love old country is getting smaller and smaller as the old timers die off. Some young people may like it, but most don't.

He's very hot. I first noticed him when I saw a picture of him wearing a Basquiat tee shirt, which is something you don't expect country artists to do. I don't know if he picked it out, or his stylist gave it to him to wear for the photo shoot, and he had no idea what he was wearing. I'd like to think it's the former. I live in Nashville and know many people in the industry. I used to write. There's no buzz about him being gay, and there is usually some talk or rumors when someone is, but on him, nada.

Country music has to evolve into something more modern and current or face a not so slow death. The number of people who enjoy the old time country is getting smaller and smaller. The time will come with there simply won't be anywhere near enough people to support old time country artists.

R 62-- country music HAS evolved and changed, but it'sn changed into something I don't particularly like. I live in Nashville, and used to write music until I stopped enjoying it. I paint now. The thing is, you can complain about country all you want, but the fact of the matter is it is one of the most successful genres of music on the radio right now. I like but don't love the old time artists -- the Hanks, Merle, Willie, etc -- but I was drawn to country by its long-ago brief flirtation with folk music and folk/pop. There was a period when you could hear incredible artists like Rosanne Cash, Foster and Lloyd, Nanci Griffith, Kathy Mattea, et al on the radio, and it was FANTASTIC! Country music has evolved into "bro country", with its uninspired references to all things rural -- beer, trucks, fishing ponds, etc -- and it has been dumbed down. Clearly, some people love it, and I don't begrudge them that, but it is a genre that I no longer have any interest in. Artists like Sam Hunt and his ilk are moving country in a direction that gets farther and farther away from its roots, but in a direction that is, based on sales, what the people want. So...what we might consider country music is no longer relevant, much the way our parent's "rock" music has no relevance to what is considered "rock" today. I miss country music, and I miss writing it. But Im glad I get to paint!

I met him once, in St Thomas(USVI) at a restaurant. We have friends in common and he was super nice once he realized my partner and I were from his hometown.
After that meeting I would occasionally (ok, a lot!) mention our connection, and EVERY SINGLE STORY about him (especially with young women- bartender, waitress) was a horror story. People in the islands HATED HIM.

Too bad about Kenny Chesney being a straight jerk. A few years ago he was the type (short, muscular, boyish features) that arouses my infrequent impulses to be a top. I'd have fucked him silly. Now I'd hate fuck him on the beach, kick sand in his face as I left him lying there whimpering and spurn him like a strumpet in the street when he pursued me, begging for more.
It was because of him that I found Datalounge, though. I was looking for dish on him and Tim McGraw when they were touring together three years ago and up popped a link to a DL thread titled something like "Do you think it's odd that some one can not have heard of Kenny Chesney or Tim McGraw?" So I do owe Kenny some gratitude.

It was a real bummer. When "Me and You" hit big, I was excited for him.
Fast forward 15 years and I run into him while I was living in St Thomas. We actually took a ride on his "boat" to St John, and went to his house. It was pretty cool, even if he was kinda skeevy with the girls that were with my partner and I.
The second encounter was a nightmare- drunk Kenny fucking some groupie in one of the bedrooms on the boat while we were all on deck, and then coming up and telling one of my female friends to come suck his dick.
I literally had to hold my partner back from beating his ass. My group quickly exited. Thankfully the dinghy was just docking to bring some new people, and we left all while Kenny was making an ass of himself.
Never saw him again, thankfully.
He wasn't homophobic, and really didn't ping at all. Redneck douche with money.
Strangely enough, one of the few songs he has done in recent years that I love- "Somewhere With You"- was co-written by none other than the subject of this thread!

The problem with modern country music is that use to be more hillbilly/rural farm country. But now it has become redneck and white trashy. And they don't mind be trashy cause they are really a product that is repeating the same song over and over. The hillbilly/ farmer had ambition and a sense of values. This redneck trash only wants to party all the time. And look pretty doing it. Talent need not apply. Say you were recommended by Garth Brooks and Shania Twain as they raped all the money they could off the back of country music.
