Favorite Cocktail

What's your favorite cocktail? How do you make it?

My favorite alcoholic drink is the Caesar. Making a Caesar follows the "one, two, three, four" rule.

1–1½ oz of vodka, two dashes of hot sauce, three dashes of salt and pepper, four dashes of Worcestershire sauce and topped with 4–6 oz of Clamato and served with ice.

Ingredients are poured into a glass rimmed with celery salt or a mixture of salt and pepper and garnished with a celery stalk and lime. Tabasco sauce and horseradish can be added.

Your post just gave me spontaneous diarrhea, OP. Thanks a lot.

by Anonymousreply 1July 11, 2015 5:40 AM

I don't usually criticize other people's tastes, OP, but "The Caesar" sounds ghastly. I think I'd rather drink a tall, cool glass of raw sewage.

by Anonymousreply 2July 11, 2015 5:41 AM

I don't like celery, nor am I fond of Clamato, but I admire your starting a thread, OP.

by Anonymousreply 3July 11, 2015 6:15 AM

Your tipple sounds awfully complicated.

1) 1 bottle of Stoli. Drink.

by Anonymousreply 4July 11, 2015 6:15 AM

Thanks for posting, but that's a Bloody Mary, basically. Right, bartenders?

by Anonymousreply 5July 11, 2015 6:19 AM

The Caesar is smoother than a Bloody Mary because it uses clamato juice instead of tomato juice, so the drink isn't as thick.. Trust me, you can't taste the clams. It's spicy, and doesn't appeal to everyone, but I like them.

by Anonymousreply 6July 11, 2015 6:36 AM

R6 Great! I wasn't criticizing, just asking for clarification.

Still sounds like a take on a Bloody Mary, smoothness aside. F'it, Id drink 2 or 3.

by Anonymousreply 7July 11, 2015 6:49 AM

The easy classics: gimlet, moscow mule and rusty nail.

by Anonymousreply 8July 11, 2015 6:51 AM

R8 Five minutes to curtain, Miss Wray.

by Anonymousreply 9July 11, 2015 6:56 AM

I want a drink. I want to go to bar and drink.

by Anonymousreply 10July 11, 2015 7:00 AM

Blech. I'll never understand people who need to make drinking alcohol so fucking complicated.

by Anonymousreply 11July 11, 2015 7:18 AM

Anson Williams used to make a lovely cocktail out of his sweat and eye lashes...

He was a lovely soul...

I loved him very much:

Then, the train wreck happened

by Anonymousreply 12July 11, 2015 7:56 AM

[quote]Trust me, you can't taste the clams.

Combining troublesome ex-members with tomato juice could solve a few problems! Thanks for the tip.

by Anonymousreply 13July 11, 2015 8:25 AM

Jack D or Southern Comfort in a paper bag. Couldn't be a simpler.

by Anonymousreply 14July 11, 2015 8:30 AM

In the Summer you can't beat a Pimm's Cup, made with Pimm's #1. It's a bit of a hassle to make, but very refreshing and colorful. See you on the veranda, guys.

by Anonymousreply 15July 11, 2015 11:27 AM

another Mai Tai, Mimsy!

by Anonymousreply 16July 11, 2015 12:14 PM

A friend turned me on to a cocktail called a Corpse Reviver (she's a mortician, natch): it's one of those old time "hair of the dog" Prohibition era cocktails to cure a hangover. Equal parts gin, triple sec, Lillet Blanc and fresh lemon juice, plus a splash of Pernod or Absinthe. Just shake it all together and strain into a Martini glass.

by Anonymousreply 17July 11, 2015 12:52 PM

A mojito in the summer heat can't be beat!

by Anonymousreply 18July 11, 2015 12:57 PM

Tom Collins

by Anonymousreply 19July 11, 2015 1:45 PM

Amaretto sour. Midori sour.

by Anonymousreply 20July 11, 2015 2:14 PM

Mash up a peeled Clementine. Pour over it Tanqueray from the freezer. Drink.

by Anonymousreply 21July 11, 2015 2:40 PM

[quote] 1–1½ oz of vodka, two dashes of hot sauce, three dashes of salt and pepper, four dashes of Worcestershire sauce and topped with 4–6 oz of Clamato and served with ice.

I shall try this if I ever become mentally ill and wish to be bulemic.

by Anonymousreply 22July 11, 2015 2:55 PM

A relative married a South African who loved Pimms but decided to make an American version with iced tea because Pimm's cup was a bit cumbersome to make. It was good.

by Anonymousreply 23July 11, 2015 3:00 PM

Gee, I could've had a V-8!

by Anonymousreply 24July 11, 2015 7:08 PM

Gin martini, extra dry with a twist.

by Anonymousreply 25July 11, 2015 8:04 PM

Caipirinha.

by Anonymousreply 26July 11, 2015 9:34 PM

Just sparkling water with lime for me. When I was still drinking I was a fan of martinis.

by Anonymousreply 27December 9, 2020 5:04 AM

Dirty vodka martini. But that's rare for me. Just a glass of red please.

by Anonymousreply 28December 9, 2020 5:33 AM

Clamato juice. How classy!

by Anonymousreply 29December 9, 2020 6:00 AM

Hard to see a Caesar and not want a Caesar.

R28 knows how to live.

by Anonymousreply 31December 9, 2020 6:55 AM

Pisco Sour. It's the national drink of Peru. I was introduced to it last year and was hooked.

by Anonymousreply 32December 9, 2020 8:52 AM

Negroni. Served up with a lemon twist.

by Anonymousreply 33December 9, 2020 8:55 AM

Alberto Vo5 and pineapple juice. The choice of Boston.

by Anonymousreply 34December 9, 2020 5:24 PM

Anyone have ideas for a winter cocktail I can make with Rhubarb gin? I wanted to try making something a little less summery than a G&T.

by Anonymousreply 35December 11, 2020 12:55 PM

A bloody MARY looking to get rimmed? No thanks. Hard pass on that one.

by Anonymousreply 36December 11, 2020 1:05 PM

The N****ni. With orange peel (classic), not lemon. The brand of gin and vermouth you should use leads to arguments.

by Anonymousreply 37December 11, 2020 1:17 PM

My bartender has a version of the Negroni called the Niggroni- it’s equal parts malt liquor, watermelon juice and grape soda. Served una Collins glass straight up.

by Anonymousreply 38December 11, 2020 1:33 PM

Americano. Not too strong and hopefully not too fattening with all the soda water in it.

by Anonymousreply 39December 11, 2020 1:37 PM

I love fancy, complicated drinks--when someone else makes them. I have a friend who has been reading old James Bond novels these past months since he's working from home, and he has been making drinks mentioned in those books. I can't remember the names of them now. Many of them were super strong and had alcohol and ingredients I didn't particularly care for, but I'll always try at least one drink. (We drink on his patio, socially distanced, FYI)

I mostly make my version of Moscow Mule--diet Ginger Beer, vodka, crushed mint, lots of limes, vodka. Sometimes for the holidays I put cranberry juice and fresh cranberries in it. Last Christmas, I had a few people over and made this vodka Christmas punch that was a big hit. Won't be needing to make that this year!

I had been drinking a lot during the last few months of semi-quarantine and working from home, but I haven't had alcohol in a several weeks now. Just kind of got bored with it, I guess? This thread is making me thirsty, though.

by Anonymousreply 40December 11, 2020 1:50 PM

Bacardi and Diet Vernors please.

by Anonymousreply 41December 11, 2020 2:12 PM

I used to LOVE Crown Royal and ginger ale with lemon. I don't know what happened, but now I can't even stand the smell of Crown. I can handle it in a punch with a lot of other flavors, but that's about it.

by Anonymousreply 42December 11, 2020 2:20 PM

R38, you're a bore. If you're aiming to offend and shock, come up with better material.

by Anonymousreply 43December 11, 2020 2:21 PM

My two preferred drinks are a good Bloody Mary and a Kentucky Mule (which gets made various ways, but below is the one I like.)

Kentucky Mule

-Bourbon

-Fresh lime juice

-Ginger beer

-Simple syrup

(I prefer without bitters)

by Anonymousreply 44December 11, 2020 2:47 PM

Lately I've taken to Old Fashioneds and Whiskey Sours as long as they're made with a good bourbon.

by Anonymousreply 45December 11, 2020 2:52 PM

Pisco sour

by Anonymousreply 46December 11, 2020 3:24 PM

The last time I did anything remotely advanced with cocktail making was this summer when I made some low cal margaritas with Swerve instead of sugar, and with a jalapeno simple syrup. Very good!

by Anonymousreply 47December 11, 2020 3:30 PM

"Moonlight Cocktail."

Need a few.

by Anonymousreply 48December 11, 2020 3:39 PM

Vodka, ice, frozen blueberries and/or fresh watermelon, top off with water.

by Anonymousreply 49December 11, 2020 3:50 PM

OP- Thank you for a sugarless cocktail. I love a spicy Bloody Mary, and next time I'll try your recipe.

I normally drink vodka, soda and roses lime or a Manhattan, in a bar.

In the street, I stumble around with beer in a paper bag or walk to the corner for an airline size bottle of Smirnoff which can be found for a dollar uptown and 3.50 in mid-town. Why waste time in a bar when everything interesting is happening outside.

by Anonymousreply 50December 11, 2020 4:04 PM

r47 - jalapeno simply syrup? So water, sugar, jalpenos?

by Anonymousreply 51December 11, 2020 4:10 PM

Dry vodka martini with an olive. A good martini takes the edge off everything.

I also like champagne so wouldn't say no to a bellini or mimosa

by Anonymousreply 52December 11, 2020 7:10 PM

Don't waste real Champagne on a Bellini (use Prosecco) or Mimosa (use Cava).

by Anonymousreply 53December 11, 2020 8:23 PM

I could murder a jug of Long Island Tea right now: vodka, gin, tequila, rum, triple sec, some chunks of lime and a rattle of ice for good measure.

by Anonymousreply 54December 11, 2020 9:47 PM

^Iced Tea

r53 I'd never do that! I don't use really good vodka in mixed drinks either.
