"The Tracey Ullman Show" - Francesca, The Girl With Two Gay Dads
I still remember how revolutionary this was for television. This sketch was so funny... William decides to secretly type Francesca's term paper for her. She waits until the last minute to do it.
William comes into her room for a "post-midnight snack" -- cherry jubilees! He brings in a cart with a flame and everything.
"What's important is that your father never finds out."
"It's you that can't keep a secret William."
"I don't know, I kept a big one for twenty-three years."
Too bad this show will never come out on DVD.

William and David try to get an apartment but are denied because they're gay.

Why won't it come out on DVD?

Every episode featured a song and dance sketch. The songs are copyrighted, thus it would cost tons of money to release on DVD. Let's not forget the Simpsons in the show. I could see everyone demanding serious cash for those.

Went to her book signing in NY years ago and she added "Go Home!" to her signature. No one would know what that means today. Why isn't the show in syndication? Although The Simpson's being on it might fuck up the rights.

The Go Home part was my mom's favorite, R5.
I liked Kay, and Francesca. Maybe they will appear on Netflix or something one day.

Dan Castellaneta and Sam McMurray later played a gay couple on [italic]Married … With Children[/italic] in 1990.

"Hello, mummy, it's Kaaay. So you're up then? Good. Did you take your laxative? Did you brush your tooth?"

I haven't seen the show since it originally aired, so I had forgotten all about these skits. Cute.

Fox wants as little to do with its pre-1990 TV library as possible unless it's [italic]M*A*S*H[/italic] or [italic]Lost in Space[/italic]. They had a deal with Shout! Factory for a bunch of shows. The filmed shows they released used outdated, faded and dirty masters that were made 30 years ago, and some were syndicated versions that were missing huge chunks of footage. The only ones they released that looked passable were shot on videotape. But nothing they released made it as far as the end of their run before Shout! and Fox ended their licensing agreement. Now they're licensing the rest of [italic]King of the Hill[/italic] to Olive, so who knows whether this any of their library shows will ever be seen again. Consider that this is a company that still releases pan and scan versions of CinemaScope movies on MOD DVDs!
As for [italic]The Simpsons[/italic] sketches, Ullman sued Fox for a portion of the merchandising revenues but the judge ruled against her. What effect that would have on a theoretical DVD release I do not know. Music licensing would be an issue, and I'm not optimistic where Fox is concerned; when they released [italic]In Living Color[/italic], they took the easy way out and cut as much music as they could, and the resulting sets were a mess.

I've been watching the new season on HBO. I've been watching this show since I was a kid.
