Southern Decadence

First time going. Any suggestions on where to stay? Prefer modern, interesting design, but open to charming B&B's too.

What is southern decadence?

by Anonymousreply 2July 13, 2015 8:29 AM

We stayed at Sully Mansion a few years ago - which is a nice B&B BUT the problem is that it's in the garden distance. So you are going to be 20 mins or so from the action - this would be the case with any garden district B&B.

by Anonymousreply 3July 13, 2015 11:28 AM

Get your head out of your ass, R2. And put your dick in mine!

by Anonymousreply 4July 13, 2015 12:07 PM

I was thinking to AirBnB a house in the midst of the action, but some of the gay Bnb's seem like they'll have more fun to offer. Any auggestions?

Aaaaand this is one of many reasons NO is considered a shit hole:

"the Big Easy does have some trouble spots. Always walk with others, never alone if possible. Don't wander about the city. In New Orleans the neighborhoods can change, literally, when you cross a street. Always carry a map. If you're drinking, don't go stumbling about the French Quarter. Locals know that the people who encounter trouble are usually the ones who have been drinking.

And a bit of urban common sense is in order. When you walk the streets, don't bring your wallet. Take the cash you need and possibly a credit card, along with some sort of identification, and put them in a pocket that no one can slip their hand into. Don't wear expensive jewelry. Basically, don't take anything with you that you would have a hard time replacing if it were lost.

If your car is impounded, it will cost you over $100 plus whatever else the city decides to tack on. Your car can be retrieved from the City Auto Pound, located in a dangerous area of the city, 400 N. Claiborne Ave., (504.565.7236)"

If I'm going to spend a lot of money to go someplace 'gay friendly during festivals', it's NOT going to be anywhere NEAR 'Tha Sowth'.

by Anonymousreply 6July 13, 2015 9:18 PM

Ugh. New Orleans in August/September. The only thing worse than NO late summer weather is being surrounded by obnoxious, drunken elder queens trying to be hip, edgy and/or cool.

by Anonymousreply 7July 13, 2015 9:47 PM

You're a nasty person R7. The type I find the Ignore button useful for. Bye.

by Anonymousreply 8July 14, 2015 1:49 AM

Sounds like a total blast! Come on fellas, there must be someone who's gone and had a good time. The photos look fun to me.

by Anonymousreply 9July 14, 2015 2:47 AM

The bathhouse is always hopping during Decadance

by Anonymousreply 10July 14, 2015 3:38 AM

Circuit parties are so 20 years ago.

by Anonymousreply 11July 14, 2015 3:39 AM

Have been 2-3 times, had an absolute blast.....basically behaved all but one time...no longer drink, so it's pretty much a no go for me....LOL

by Anonymousreply 12July 14, 2015 3:39 AM

LOL???

by Anonymousreply 13July 14, 2015 3:41 AM

My partner and I have gone the last five years. We always have a good time and a lot of people we know from home are there. But yes, watch your wallet and phone. I've had both stolen. We're not going this year. Need a break.

by Anonymousreply 14July 14, 2015 3:51 AM

Bubble BUMP

by Anonymousreply 15July 26, 2015 9:20 PM

This is hurricane season so you may have to cancel your travel plans at the last minute.

by Anonymousreply 16July 26, 2015 9:37 PM

I was looking at hotel rates in NO yesterday and arbitrarily set the dates for Sept. 2-8. Every hotel in the Quarter practically was full and I wondered what was up.

Then I remembered about this. I've never been but am curious if any of you went.

I was in NOLA in Aug 2013, but earlier in the month. (Loved the Red Dress Run but that was just one day and was more drunken frat party than decadence. SD may be a little too crowded and wild and skews older than my age group.)

by Anonymousreply 17September 2, 2015 8:48 PM

I used to live on Bourbon Street and was there for a few Decandences. It's fun but it's definitely a downmarket crowd. If you're used to NYC or LA, you will feel like you're slumming.

by Anonymousreply 18September 2, 2015 9:49 PM

Is this one of those events filled with old leather queens?

by Anonymousreply 19September 2, 2015 10:09 PM

r10, the bathhouse is closed, set to be turned into condos in the New New Orleans.

Yes, it's gotten to be much more circuit-boy and circuit-bear over the years, but it still can be fun. Locals can remember when it was really a big Sunday afternoon parade/stagger around the Quarter, with everyone in clever costumes. Now it's a lot more queens in club wear, leather or drag, and much of the colorful nature is gone.

It's still a fun party if you've never been. The upside is everyone is reasonably friendly and trashy. The downside is that a lot of queens get totally fucked-up and forget that the same rules apply in New Orleans that do in any city — i.e., don't do drugs, get drunk off your ass and go staggering down side streets alone at 3 a.m.

And the other downside is that a few visitors just don't pay any attention to any rules whatsoever, peeing on people's houses or trying to get blow jobs right on street corners. One year I saw a 50ish guy bent over the USA Today box in front of the Clover Grill getting barebacked by another leather guy in the broiling hot mid-afternoon. There's fun to be had in the bars, but that's just fucking gross.

by Anonymousreply 20September 2, 2015 10:30 PM

You are a sex negative troll, R20.

by Anonymousreply 21September 2, 2015 11:07 PM

Yes cause anyone not into barebacking on the street in their laughable leather drag is of course sex negative.lol

by Anonymousreply 22September 2, 2015 11:09 PM

I went once. Threw the shoes I brought out the second I got home. I would never bother to go again.

by Anonymousreply 23September 2, 2015 11:13 PM

The Bourbon Orleans Hotel. It's in the French Quarter and is lovely with a lot of history. It's old. 1817.

I thought Southern Decadence was the big tranny festival.

Judging by these responses, I think I was wrong.

by Anonymousreply 25September 2, 2015 11:20 PM

Some trannies, mostly drunk guys showing off their cocks, and public sex.

This guy has to be there by now. I see he wrote in July. SD starts really 6 weeks ago but today is the day it's on on on.

by Anonymousreply 27September 3, 2015 12:46 AM

Why is it always the ugly burnouts that want to have sex in public.

by Anonymousreply 28September 3, 2015 2:42 AM

Who's here?

by Anonymousreply 29September 3, 2015 4:50 AM

R28, you are 99% right but there's a video of an incredibly hot guy with a huge dick who takes off his pants on Bourbon and let's the whole crowd feel him up. The crowd is ugly but he's stunning. You can probably still find it somewhere.

by Anonymousreply 30September 3, 2015 11:36 PM

Why would a hot guy allow himself to be groped and felt up by a crowd of trolls?

by Anonymousreply 31September 5, 2015 1:18 AM

Colby Jansen, DL's favorite fit/fat rugby-playing porn bro, is there.

R31, check out the thread about how many hook ups people have had. A number are 1,000+. Clearly, a lot of people don't care about who touches them.

by Anonymousreply 33September 5, 2015 2:26 AM

I guess it must be going full blast by now. Or is everyone all fucked out at this point?

R26's video surprised me a little, in that people were just sucking dick on the street in broad daylight.

Although, I did see a very young, very cute frat boy type (in a red dress, naturally), drunk out of his mind that afternoon, pull out his dick and piss right in front of Rouses Market, with all the tourists coming out of Pat O'Brien's across the street. No one paid much attention.

by Anonymousreply 34September 6, 2015 4:11 AM

"Why would a hot guy allow himself to be groped and felt up by a crowd of trolls? "

Because of me!

by Anonymousreply 35September 7, 2015 5:35 AM

Do the police just look the other way during this and other FQ celebrations?

I don't recall ever seeing a police cruiser in the Quarter except once but I figured it was the streets; they're tiny and cars move at like 5 mph.

by Anonymousreply 36September 7, 2015 9:54 AM

It looks like a bunch of methed out old queens from the photos.

by Anonymousreply 37September 10, 2015 3:39 AM

do any of the SD events cater to the under 30 crowd?

by Anonymousreply 38September 10, 2015 3:48 AM

[quote]do any of the SD events cater to the under 30 crowd?

From what I saw on social media this year, it now caters to straight girls in their 20s wearing colorful wigs and posing with queens on the street.

by Anonymousreply 39September 10, 2015 5:08 AM

Anyone have any SD stories?

by Anonymousreply 40September 12, 2015 4:01 AM

how was it this year?

by Anonymousreply 41October 7, 2015 1:30 AM

[R26]: Looks delicious. A guy can dream.
