31-year old broadway star will play lead in Fox TV's "Grease Live".
I wonder who their first choice was?
by Anonymous | reply 1 | July 9, 2015 5:20 PM |
Uh oh. They use the word "re-imagining" in the article describing the project. That's never a good thing.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | July 9, 2015 5:31 PM |
They couldn't get a name people recognize?
by Anonymous | reply 3 | July 9, 2015 5:40 PM |
Hmmm. I love Aaron, but high-definition TV is very unforgiving.
I hope they keep the scene where Danny jogs past Sandy in his short-shorts. Aaron looks quite handsome without pants
by Anonymous | reply 4 | July 9, 2015 5:40 PM |
I wish they would stick with the original score. I don't need "Hopelessly Devoted To You" and "You're The One That I Want" Leave those for the movie.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | July 9, 2015 5:41 PM |
I bet they get David Burka for Kenickie. Gayest Grease evah!
by Anonymous | reply 6 | July 9, 2015 5:43 PM |

Keep it? It wasn't in the play to begin with.
[quote]I wish they would stick with the original score.
Me too. If they prefer the movie, why not simply show the movie?

Maybe they'll reset it in graduate school, considering the ages.

Luv. Huh.

I'm still the right age to reprise my starmaking role as Marty Maraschino! And I still can't sing or dance!
by Anonymous | reply 14 | July 9, 2015 9:25 PM |
They tried. Why do you think it took so long to announce the male lead after Hough and Hudgins? He played Link at the Hollywood Bowl in "Hairspray" and he wasn't so good but he didn't get great reviews for H2 either. But he has the name but also now a hit recording career so no go.

Okie, Cool not a fan of Aaron but we'll see?

Who is Aaron Tveit?
by Anonymous | reply 18 | July 10, 2015 1:48 AM |
Vanessa Hudgens as Rizzo and Julianne Hough as Sandy? Aaron Tveit as Danny?
This is going to flop.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | July 10, 2015 2:43 AM |
Is there a part for me?
by Anonymous | reply 20 | July 10, 2015 2:50 AM |
Allison can play boys, so she can be Kenickie
by Anonymous | reply 21 | July 10, 2015 2:59 AM |
Since this is on Fox, I assume the devil spawn of the Fox and Friends hosts will want parts.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | July 10, 2015 3:02 AM |
Eugene Levy should play the coach.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | July 10, 2015 3:22 AM |
john travolta wishes he could hit that
by Anonymous | reply 25 | July 10, 2015 3:43 AM |
Aaron does not use filler on his nasal-labial folds, so he is obviously straight.
He also looks like a tool.

Being rewritten by Jon Tolins, author of Buyer and Cellar, and his husband. Should be supergay.

31?! Bitch looks 45, if a day.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | July 10, 2015 11:18 AM |
Will I get to play my part? I still look young enough.

by Anonymous | reply 31 | July 10, 2015 11:26 AM |
What's the point if they're revising the book again? And the score will just get bowdlerized. This really needs to be on cable.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | July 10, 2015 11:27 AM |
Who cares about the actors, score or script? I just want Tveit in tight jeans displaying his fabulous ass and legs!!
by Anonymous | reply 33 | July 10, 2015 12:36 PM |

I like how you think, R33.

I saw the original back in '76 and do not remember whether or not that scene was in the play, but it was in the Papermill production.
But then again, so was 'Hopelessly Devoted to You', and the title song

He's cute, but no way he could pass as a high-school senior.

There's a reason professional productions of this usually use adults. Mainly the content.

R37 my high school did GREASE in the 1990s.

And superawful.
I liked Michael Urie, but otherwise I was not impressed with "Buyer and Cellar."

I always like pronouncing his name "teh-vit" in my head even though that's not right and the real pronunciation is sexier

On the old MTM show, Mary's friend from camp visits and asks her to be her maid of honor. She's marrying Arnold Tveit. Rhoda said some people just look like their names. Arnold looks like a Tveit.

The bland leading the blond.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | July 11, 2015 5:58 AM |
Notice how in R43's animated GIF, Franco's hand limply hovers over his skin with wan disinterest. What lame acting.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | July 11, 2015 2:20 PM |
I wasn't interested in this production until they cast Aaron. As long as he's at least partially clothed in one scene, I'll be happy!
by Anonymous | reply 47 | July 11, 2015 2:43 PM |
This seems somewhat strange casting; think they should have gone with someone a little more "street"...
by Anonymous | reply 48 | July 11, 2015 4:21 PM |
[quote] He's cute, but no way he could pass as a high-school senior.
FWIW, Barry Bostwick and Adrienne Barbeau were 27 when the original show opened.
But you can get away with a lot more in the theater than on hi-def TV
by Anonymous | reply 49 | July 11, 2015 4:59 PM |
Milquetoast Aaron was so miscast as a student revolutionary in Les Mis. The only protest he could lead is fighting for gluten-free cupcakes at the student union.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | July 11, 2015 8:23 PM |
Apparently Billy Magnussen was in talks, and was 'rumored' on Imdb for a while but somehow that fell through
by Anonymous | reply 51 | July 17, 2015 12:57 AM |
Couldn't they have cast someone who doesn't look like he's old enough to have a kid in high school?
by Anonymous | reply 52 | July 17, 2015 1:14 AM |
R7, the scene where Danny joins the track team for Sandy's sake and we see him jogging on stage in shorts was definitely in the original Broadway production of GREASE, but thanks anyway.
I totally agree that Nick Jonas would have been a much better choice for Danny, as far as both age and type. Aaron Tveit has a nice body but his face is actually kind of goofy, plus he's so bland and so white bread, which is the opposite of what Danny is supposed to be.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | July 17, 2015 1:53 AM |
Sadly, R52, Aaron Tveit is what Danny Zuko almost always ends up being in productions of Grease....a very bland, pretty, very stereotypical theater boy.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | July 17, 2015 2:57 PM |
It looks like the Danny casting is becoming like what the Tony casting in WSS became.

Actually, r44, that would be "Women wait for Aaron Tveit."
by Anonymous | reply 57 | July 20, 2015 2:15 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 58 | July 20, 2015 2:38 AM |
His nasolabial folds are crazy deep for someone his age. He looks protease-y.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | July 20, 2015 3:21 AM |
Will he dye his hair black?
by Anonymous | reply 60 | July 20, 2015 3:24 AM |
