R4 and R5
To your posts I can only say:
MARY!
MARY!
and
MARY!
by Anonymous | reply 6 | July 8, 2015 9:49 PM |
(and sadly, Nicollet Goulet, Mary #3 IS in fact, dead)
by Anonymous | reply 7 | July 8, 2015 9:49 PM |
R5 and R7, Mary #3 was Kathleen Tolan who achieved immortality by being forced to fellatiate Jeff Goldblum in "Death Wish." She was so bad that you could see Sarah Felder's Siobhan holding back because she could have so easily mopped the floor with her in their fights. If Carney and Tolan were reversed, Carney might have stuck but since she was following Mulgrew, she didn't have a chance.
You might actually push the number back further because Robin Mary Paris played Mary when Kate was off giving birth to her illegitimate daughter she would eventually give away.
I'm in the minority, but I always hated Mary, especially when played by Mulgrew. Such a know-it-all and smug to boot. Once the trashy blonde (Dee for the uninitiated) said to her "You should have married Frank, the two perfect people."
by Anonymous | reply 8 | July 8, 2015 9:55 PM |
I loved Ryan's Hope but the revolving casting pretty much killed it off. I think there were maybe five Franks in three years. Four Pats? A couple Delias. Who knows how many Siobhans. The fans just finally threw their hands up in the air. They did cast one of my favorite actresses. Cali Timmins. She took playing a vixen to new heights.

Mary and Delia did play off each other really well.

I just finished watching that pilot. OMG, and people made fun of Passions. That was really bad.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | July 8, 2015 10:49 PM |
Ryan's Hope was considered the Shakespeare of daytime TV. I always wanted to brush Delia's hair.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | July 8, 2015 10:51 PM |
The character on Ryan's Hope that went from ugly duckling to blonde bombshell was Faith Coleridge. She started out a kind of frumpy, frigid woman, then became the beautiful Catherine Hicks, and finally the gorgeous Karen Morris Gowdy.
I had a mad crush on handsome, muscular Michael Levin who played Jack Finelli for most of the run of the show. He's now in his 70's, which is hard for me to digest.
Michael Corbett was also on the show as "Michael Pavel" who was sleeping with Kim and her mother, during the same period of time, which of course led to the Midnight murder which gave Ryan's Hope some of its highest ratings ever.

Kimberly Beaulac as played by Kelli Maroney was the shit. Loved her.

Karen Morris Gowdy was fucking gorgeous. Good actress too.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | July 9, 2015 12:18 AM |
Nancy Addison was arguably the best all around actress daytime TV ever had. She did have the advantage of playing a fully developed character though. She wasn't one dimensional. She didn't suffer from daytime making you a hero or villain. Jill was far from perfect but you liked her.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | July 9, 2015 12:21 AM |
The link at r10 confirms that Datalounge's MARY!!!! sentiment originated with Mary Ryan. My god, that scene with Delia. "You are the most destructive person I have ever known!" Can you say MARY!!!!!
by Anonymous | reply 20 | July 9, 2015 12:36 AM |

I saw Michael Corbett naked in the NYU locker room once. Very nice, tightly muscled body.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | July 9, 2015 12:47 AM |
Karen Morris Gowdy played Faith as the perfect martyr. Nothing ever went her way and she just soldiered on. Remember Delia and the gorilla? The story so ridiculous even the NYTs reported on it.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | July 9, 2015 12:58 AM |
Addison was horrible. Maybe it was her bad nose job that made it look like she was always flaring her nostrils. She was on constant alert, never relaxed or likable.
Gowdy was almost as bad. Those teeth! Yikes. She was associated with beauty pageants, maybe still is, and it explains why she seemed more into hair and make-up than acting.

It was interesting to watch Roscoe interact with Randall Edward's Delia. Although he was married to Siobhan (not Sarah Felder but the dishrag who replaced her), it was clear there was chemistry and sparks between those two. They later married and divorced.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | July 10, 2015 3:28 PM |
That "dishrag" was Ann Gillespie, who later played the mother of the blond on 90210. She's now a minister.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | July 10, 2015 4:43 PM |
Marge Helgenberger as Siobhan was a weird fit. Her character was great but she just wasn't a Ryan. She was rarely in a scene with John or Mauve or any of the Ryans. It just didn't fit. She was always with Max, Joe, Bill....anyone but the Ryans.

I had it bad for Malcolm Groome (Patrick Ryan) . So cute.
I thought Michael Levin was good looking in an older man sort of way...funny when Ryan's Hope started he was at least 10 years younger than I am now
I wanted to squeeze the life out of Kate Mulgrew's Mary. She was insufferable.
Ron Hale is, was and always will be the ugliest man on TV.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | July 24, 2015 1:24 AM |
I know most people preferred Ilene Kristen's Delia, and while I liked her too, I always had a soft spot for Randall Edwards' version too.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | July 24, 2015 1:32 AM |
Unlike some of their replacements, the writers tailored Dee to Randall Edwards and so she was effective in a different way. Ilene Kristen's Dee could never have been believable as the owner of the Crystal Palace but Edwards was. They also allowed her a lovely moment where she comforted Ryan when she said she wanted her mom.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | July 24, 2015 3:13 AM |
Robin Mattson was Delia for a year. Horribly miscast. But hey....it's a scene with Bill Hyde....I don't know what they were thinking with this casting stunt. At least all parties concerned knew it was wrong it it was nipped in the bud.

Cali played Maggie Shelby, who was Jill's half-sister. Maggie and Jill had the same mother, Bess (Gloria DeHaven), who lived with Maggie in a trailer park.

by Anonymous | reply 56 | July 24, 2015 2:55 PM |
Yeah. Cali played Maggie. One of the best soap characters ever. Man she was a self centered Lolita type. She was perfect. Then as soaps almost always do when a villain gets extremely popular the try to nice them up. So they took Maggie out of her slinky clothes, put her in scrunchies and acid wash jeans, and started her working at a deli. Fortunately it didn't last too long.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | July 24, 2015 3:25 PM |

Jack and Mary are one of my all time favorite soap couples. But I also loved Leigh and Jack. Michael Levin had amazing chemistry with basically everyone in the cast.
I must admit that the way in which everyone seems to adore Sarah Felder kind of puzzles me. I liked her, but she was no where near the caliber of many of the other actresses on the show. I was shocked to her included in We Love Soap' s top 50 actresses of all time a few years ago.
Also, I HATED Maureen Garrett when she played EJ Ryan. I loved her as Holly on GL, but thought she had zero chemistry with any of the RH actors during her time on the show. Actually, I felt the same way about Richard Bacus as her on screen brother, Barry. I guess I just could have done without that whole branch of the Ryan's family!
by Anonymous | reply 62 | August 30, 2015 4:33 PM |
Maggie even had her own background music.
by Anonymous | reply 64 | August 30, 2015 4:43 PM |
Kim looked like the typical Irish girl that would go to the bar ,get drunk and end up in some Italian's bed!
Yasmin Bleeth was so pretty but she became such a druggie.. Was she fucking Christian Slater on Ryan's?
Ilene Kristen was a lot of fun. She seemed like she was the type of short girl that would be an animal in the sack.
Ms Cali Timmins was hot. I always felt that she was quite beautiful. Not as hot as Joanna Going on Another World but she had her own thing going on.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | August 30, 2015 4:46 PM |
Maggie wasn't beautiful. She was extremely pretty but didn't cross the line into beautiful....but she had that it thing that made beautiful women pale in comparison next to her. I really expected her to go on to bigger things. When it first came on it was amazing watching this inexperienced teen actress steal any and every scene she was in. I don't know if the dates would have meshed when she left Ryan's Hope but she would have made a great Amanda recast on Dynasty.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | August 30, 2015 4:59 PM |
Remember how gross Kim and Senenca were together? I liked Kim, but I never believed that she was the toast of Broadway as we were made to believe in her storyline for a time.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | August 30, 2015 5:13 PM |
I recently met someone who worked on the crew of RH and he told me the girl who played Kim was a total bitch. One of the most unlikeable cast members he'd ever had to deal with.

I saw a recent interview with the actor who played Seneca.
He's in his 80's and looks amazing. He does a cabaret show.
He's also still married to the actress he met on RH. I'm blanking on her name.

But she married after AW and left the business.

R66 I disagree, Cali was beautiful. Not the most beautiful Canadian girl in the world but she had her moments. I don't think anyone would have made a good Amanda recast. Then again Oxenberg wasn't a great actress to begin with but she somehow had great chemistry with Joan Collins.
by Anonymous | reply 75 | August 30, 2015 10:11 PM |
John Gabriel was the actor who played Seneca Beaulac. In real life, he is married to Sandy Gabriel, who played Edna Thornton on AMC in the 70s and 80s.
Kelly Maroney was the actress who played Kimberly Harris Beaulac, who was Rae Woodward's daughter.
by Anonymous | reply 76 | August 31, 2015 12:09 AM |
Rae and Frank were even grosser than Kimberly and Seneca.
by Anonymous | reply 77 | August 31, 2015 12:15 AM |
The whole "midnight murder" storyline with Michael Pavel (Michael Corbett) banging both the mother and the daughter (Rae and Kim) was the high point ratings-wise for Ryan's Hope, if I'm remembering right.
by Anonymous | reply 78 | August 31, 2015 12:32 AM |
And I think that the 81 writers strike sort of killed the Michael/Rae/Kim triangle. When I watched on SoapNET, I remember it was great and then it became disjointed really quickly.

Does anyone know anything about Earl Hindman (Bob Reid) doing sexplotation movies in the late 60's? There is a company called Something Weird that has released a lot of these films on home video. I am almost 100 percent sure that Hindman appears (under a fake name of course) in a film called The Ultimate Degenerate. I know that he was married to actress who played Polly Longfellow on RH in real life.

Loved Felicity LaFortune as Leigh. In the 80s , she stayed at a hotel I worked in Key West. She may have been in town for the filming of a Hemingway mini series with Stacy Keach. I was the host where she had breakfast. I remained professional at first, but I finally came out as a fan to her. She was very nice and funny. That same summer, Anna Stuart(Donna Love -Another World) stayed with us. She told me she loved playing a woman so rich and powerful.

She might have held her own but she was still a place holder. IK was the one and only Delia.
by Anonymous | reply 103 | September 1, 2015 1:29 AM |
Yeah. IK was the one and only Delia. The Robin Matteson days as Delia were a mess. Its a good thing that Ryan's Hope had a good casting director. With all the casting changes it would have killed off a lesser show a lot sooner. But who ever did the casting was on fucking fire. They always found the most interesting actors. Ryan's Hope was the hot mess of daytime. You couldn't look away once you tuned in. But just take a look at their casting tracke record.
by Anonymous | reply 104 | September 1, 2015 1:58 AM |
Randall Edwards was my favorite Delia. I understood her Delia and she was pretty was explained why all the Ryan boys put up with her shit. IK was okay, but that breathy, befuddled nonsense was just a little too much, and she wasn't pretty.
by Anonymous | reply 105 | September 1, 2015 2:24 AM |
I preferred Randall Edwards as well. Delia was always a pain in the ass, and although Ilene's performance was great, I never felt sympathy for the character. With Randall's performance, I did.
I agree with the poster upthread who hated Kim, and the actress who played her. I used to fast forward through her scenes because the acting was horrible. I remember recently (within th last 5-10 yrs) the actress who played Kim (Kelli something-or-other?) tried to shave years of her age by claiming she started playing Kim (and performing sex scenes) when she was 14 or 15, instead of 18.

[quote]I forgot that RH was heavy on mob stuff. Claire Labine loved the mob. She wrote it into Love of Life and General Hospital.
No, she didn't. After the mob stuff became popular on GH, ABC forced RH to have some mob stories as well.
In fact, the genesis of the show was her wanted to create a show about an Irish family who owned a bar. ABC wanted a show about a hospital. The compromise was a show about an Irish family who owned a bar across the street from a hospital.
The irony being that GH was at its creative zenith when she was writing it.

Wasn't Roscoe a little high maintenance behind the scenes. I remember they had to do an emergency recast for him on AMC. Granted the storyline he left - child pornographer terrorizing Brooke's daughter - was pretty bad, but unprofessional departures like that probably make future employment more difficult.

Roscoe played so many mustache twirling soap villains over his career. Joe Novak was the nicest character that he played and he was a mobster.
I have seen him noted in previous threads on DL as being notoriously difficult and full of himself during his hey day on soaps.
by Anonymous | reply 127 | September 2, 2015 3:57 AM |
I think I first realized I had a thing for guys when I was around 12 or 13, and Joe Novak (RH) and Greg Nelson (AMC) would parade around their respective shows wearing a little Speedo. Mmmff.

R127
IIRC he played twins on SB and one was good and the other bad.
He also played a good guy on The City.
Born didn't get his difficult rep until after his wife dumped him for another man and moved away with his daughter.
He's spoken about how devastated he was and he went off the rails.
by Anonymous | reply 129 | September 2, 2015 3:06 PM |
I liked all the Franks (at least the ones I saw) but for different reasons. Daniel Hugh Kelly played Frank as a little stand-offish, maybe a little mysterious. But his dark good looks made that sexy. Then Geoff Pierson came in and played Frank more as everyone's big brother, a little more loud and boisterous. Not as conventially good-looking, but a handsome guy who reminded me of the confident football captain when I was a freshman. The last was John Sanderford (I think that was his name), and he was more of a preppy frat-brother Frank. While I didn't care for him as much as a character, he sure was purty to look at.
by Anonymous | reply 131 | September 3, 2015 11:14 PM |
What about Andrew Robinson's Frank? Robinson was good because he is a good actor, but he gave off more of a Jack Fennelli than Frank Ryan vibe.
Anyone on here have any behind scenes dirt on RH? Who didn't get along?

[quote]Who could Roscoe Born play on GH?
Hmmmm. If we're talking about someone already established in PC, maybe Joe Kelly? At age 65, he would be age appropriate. Stylistically, though, he seems like a better fit for the wiseguy crowd. Are there any Jeromes drifting in the wind at the moment? Or maybe one of the Zacchara or Soleito uncles, especially if Johnny ever returns.

A recast Stefan or Valentin.

Sorry, toots, but the Cassadines ARE mobsters. Pretty it up all you want with the castles and islands and Faberge eggs, but, at the end of the day, they are every bit as cutthroat, immoral and underhanded, if not MORE, than the average mafioso.

The Ken George Jones story line was the worst. I'll never forget Daniel Hugh Kelly having to seriously say a line about Ken being in a band called Berkeley Place. His songs were so awful. Jillian had both him and earlier Seneca writing shitty songs about her. No wonder she chose Frank in the end! Anyone who wouldn't sing to her was all that she wanted!
Remember Dr. Clem Moultrie? The only black doctor, we never saw any of his family , and then he just disappeared.

I'd forgotten about Bucky Carter. In that clip he was really cute. I loved the Faith in that clip. I don't know if she was first or second. The nurse ruling of the residents was hysterical. In the early clips it's easy to see why fans would not accept a different Mary or Delia.

I remember when Grant Show was interviewed in Rolling Stone for the Melrose Place cover story. He dissed RH. I hate when actors do that. The worst offender was Teri Hatcher. When Desperate Housewives had their Vanity Fair cover story, Teri bashed the genre within the first few paragraphs.

I think that Kathleen appeared when Mary had Ryan, but the was never a regular character.
The classiest one of them all is Julianne Moore. She came back and she didn't have to do that. Kate Mulgrew has also always been very complementary and grateful for her time on RH. I know that a lot of people have issues with Kate for various reasons. But you cannot dispute her talent.

Do you mean Jill (Nancy Altman, RIP) shoving the apple in Frank's (Geoffrey Pierson) mouth? As a kid, I never liked Jill, but when I re watched RH on SoapNet, I liked her a lot. Siobhan was originally a schoolteacher, not a nun. She was also very much for abortion. When she thought she was pregnant, she wanted an abortion and said "I believe in abortion because I believe in life", the exact opposite of what Mary and Maeve thought.
Do you remember Tovah Feldshuh as Martha McKee, a journalist whom Mary called a viper when she was investigating Frank. Of course, Mary was a reporter herself (had no ambition towards that until she fucked Jack) and was no stranger to snooping around but with Martha, it was a different story. Those inconsistencies were part of the reason so many people hated Mulgrew's Mary. So sanctimonious and hypocritical.

R196 Tainting Ryan's Hope?! Delia has been on GH as well as the actor playing Roger. It is not a P and G, CBS or NBC or Sony soap. It is an ABC soap. One that at least has a couple of characters(Delia and Ava ) who are connected to Ryan's Hope. So in that sense that's the reason it was mentioned.
R194 Roger was not Ava's dad. Ron Hale played a different character on GH. I won't be surprised if Ron Hale came back there. The previous writing regime would have retconned things and made Roger and Mike(his GH character) the same person. It would have been a mess but it would have been cool to see Delia and Roger together again.

Not to mention that RYAN'S BAR, the actual thread title, is currently one of the featured locations that GH uses! The endless re-casts could be frustrating -- but the strength of the cast kept the show going. Michael Levin, Ron Hale, Roscoe Born and Nancy Addison Altman were all perfectly cast. Randall Edwards and Cali Timmons brought the ideal pairing of vulnerability and villainy. Marg will forever be Siobhan for me, and I did love Louise Shaffer and Kelli Maroney as mother / daughter. And there were no finer bodies in daytime than Grant Show, Chris Durham and James Wlcek.
And Helen and Bernie of course !
by Anonymous | reply 211 | May 18, 2019 3:27 AM |
Marg was wonderful but the only Siobhan was Sarah Felder. They retooled the character so that Siobhan became more like Mary at the end.

Sarah Felder was perfect and necessary after Mulgrew left. A pity they never shared a scene.
The original Frank was Michael Hawkins - Christian Slater's father. He was deemed too old and could not learn his lines so they canned him, though he had a Kennedy esque look that Andrew Robinson (who always played psychos) never did.
Helen G. was known for stealing scenes and ad libbing that drove the cast up the wall. She was NOT well liked.

I take exception to the above bullshit - Kelli Maroney was not a difficult person. A little young and in over her head at first, but sweet. As for Helen Gallagher stealing scenes and being disliked by the cast, complete bullshit. She was the complete pro and pretty much revered by everyone.
Also extremely nice - Louise Shaffer, Nancy Addison, Ilene Kristen, Randall Edwards, Karen Morris Gowdy, Ana Alicia, Richard Muenz, Malcolm Groome, Ron Hale, Earl Hindman, Andy Robinson and Richard Backus.

I enjoyed Louise Shaffer's performance as Rae Woodard, a very complex character whom the editor of the "Ryan's Bar" referred to as Soap Opera's version of Leona Helmsley. Yes, Rae could be very cruel, but she was certainly no Leona. She was good to her employees who were loyal to her, and it was obvious that Frank Ryan always seemed to sympathize with her, even when she falsely set him up for some political misconduct. The best storylines "Ryan's Hope" ever had were Rae's supporting Frank for congress, and years later when he ran for the senate, setting him up for running out on Charlotte Greer (the fantastic Judith Chapman) and stealing her money. Rae came back at the end of the show and there were hints that she was going to stick around. Imagine the storylines they could have had with her granddaughter Arley and any of the younger Ryan's with Rae interfering, as well as becoming involved in the publishing industry again.
When they fired Louise from the show (she remained on recurring but only had sporadic appearances), "Search For Tomorrow" picked her up to replace Maree Cheatham as Stephanie. Pretty much the same set-up; Stephanie ran a TV station and dealt with a hellion daughter (Wendy), and Louise was reunited with Michael Corbett and Peter Haskell who played her lovers on "RH". The year Louise won the Emmy for supporting actress, she pretty much was a lead, having more to do than the Ryan's at the time, but this lead to the show being referred to as "Kirkland's Hope". There should have been more of a balance, because there could have been some great bitchy storylines with Rae & Catsy, played by the gorgeous Christine Jones who gave a fiery performance during her 3 months on the show but unfortunately had a horrible wardrobe. The one scene I've found with Rae and Catsy (Hollis is forced to break off with Rae) is riveting, and Louise displays a source of pain that reveals more about this character in five minutes than soap actresses today reveal in four years.
I wish that they had done more with Louise as Goldie Kane on "All My Children" rather than have her be another psycho bitch (with wild hair!) out to kill Erica which we knew she would not get away with. Louise was terrific in the few scenes available of her as Serena/Josie on "The Edge of Night" and deserved an Emmy for that. Later on, Louise wrote scripts for various NY based soaps, and was one of the writers during the "Vanessa Bennett Cortlandt is Proteus" story.
I enjoyed Molly McGreevy in her four year recurring role as Rae's society friend Poilly Longworth. In real life, she was Mrs. Earl Hindman, and an Episcopal minister who loved acting as a sideline. She might not have been the most gorgeous creature on the soaps, but she had a presence that made me want to see more of her. I could imagine her as a stage actress, but she did little acting outside of "RH".

Someone actually made that suggestion, R240, several years ago on the IMDb "Ryan's Hope" message board. I'm not quite sure I believe that, but I'm not going to claim that either way. She reminded me of actress Fiona Shaw with her theatricality and masculine facial features combined with a bit of eccentricity.

"Remember how gross Kim and Senenca were together?"
I remember. She looked about 14. He looked at least 50 years older. Yech!

Molly looks like Lucy Lee Flippin in drag.

Kelli Maroney claims her birthday is Dec 30, 1965, which would have made her 13 when she started on RH in 1979, and 17 when she finished the role in 1983. She says she lied about her age at the time to get the role, which....maybe? I mean, she did look young (and acted even younger), but methinks she's shaving a couple of years off her age now.
John Gabriel was born in May, 1931, so he would have been right around 50 when the Seneca-Kim story was filming and airing.
So... Yech! is an appropriate term for it.

The storyline of Jillian's amnesia stunk, but it did bring Chris Durham aboard as Johnny's bastard son...so it was well worth it. The writers just couldn't figure out what to do with him, but he sure was nice to look at.

Go to minute 57:00 to see how stellar Ryan’s Hope was in its day. The rat-tat-tat dialogue, the natural acting and very real conflict between Jack and Mary shows how this show elevated the form. I can’t imagine a scene like this existing today. It’s so good.

R246 Tovah Feldshuh (seen just before :57 in this clip) was the runner-up for the role of Mary Ryan in the show's original casting.

R247 Sorry, 57:00, not :57

I will never, EVER forget the plot line when DELIA, unloved and unloveable, spends her days telling her problems and crying to someone in a GORILLA SUIT on a set that is supposed to represent THE ZOO. Then the "GORILLA" breaks out and SNATCHES her just like King Kong! AMAZING!
This beats the "Cassadine's Diamond Dust Is Changing the Earth's Weather" plot line on General Hospital with a stick. Most ridiculous story by far.

That gorilla's name was Prince Albert and was played by a member of Swiss theatre troupe Mummenschanz.

Wasn't the "Faith as an Egyptian Princess" story as equally bad as Prince Albert?
by Anonymous | reply 251 | May 22, 2019 1:24 AM |
Not just the King Kong thing....JAWS came to Ryan's Hope when Joe had to rescue Siobhan from a shark!
by Anonymous | reply 252 | May 22, 2019 1:32 AM |
No, Faith as an Egyptian Princess was even worse than Prince Albert.
The Jaws thing was ridiculous, but pretty quick and painless.

The saddest storyline was the death of Edmund Beaulac (actually Frank's son, not Seneca's) in the beach house. Jill continued to go there in spite of the memory that would have kept me away. The only thing that was annoying in this story was the constant reprise of John Gabriel singing "Jillian".

R254 Around that time John Gabriel did a nightclub act including special material, substituting the lyrics "Seneca Beaulac" for "Eleanor Rigby" and a refrain that began, "Ah, look at all the daytime people..."

Wasn't Jillian walking on the beach when the house exploded. She left her toddler child alone in the house! They'd have arrested her today.

Yes, she ran back in and the roof collapsed, hurting her back. I remember Maeve telling her about Edmund in the hospital, saying "There was no pain, no fear." It was heartbreaking. Frank was engaged to Rae when this happened, and they were at a big party in Washington D.C. (NY's Eve I think). Rae turned to Polly and gave her a look as if she knew that this was the beginning of the end. Jill became addicted to painkillers when it happened, and Seneca, desperate to have a child of his own, got her drunk under the premise of curing her pain, and had sex with her while she was passed out. She basically accused him of raping her although she didn't press charges, but it was the end of the marriage.
Ironically, Frank and Jill both remained friendly with Rae and Seneca, for some reason becoming involved in Kim's story, and Frank always seemed to forgive Rae when she on several occasions tried to destroy his career. This storyline was capped by the Charlotte Greer plot where Judith Chapman, Roy Poole and Kathleen Widdoes all gave mesmerizing performances as a family out to get vengeance on the Ryan's. Rae, who had orchestrated Charlotte's entrance, tried to stop them but Charlotte's father Neil (Poole) stabbed her and she nearly died. Once again Frank forgave Rae, although Jill and the rest of the Ryan's were very reluctant to be as gracious, as evidenced by Rae's cameo in the last episode where Jill pointed Rae out to Maeve as she walked in to which Maeve responded, "Oh Lord."

I think I started this thread!
It occurred to me today that Helen Gallagher is the last of the soap tentpole matriarchs still alive.

Ohmygawd! The acting and writing is painful!
Why is that young women yelling all of her shitty dialogue!?
I actually auditioned for a contract role as a wise ass streety kinda young guy in 1983. I'm not that type at all. I remember thinking I gave a pretty good audition, but fuck, I know I was better than any of these lousy actors!
