Former college basketball captain comes out, is engaged to a man

[quote]Many factors drive us to achieve in life. Until I was 22, one of my key motivators was the fear that people would find out who I really was—a gay man—and not accept me.
This is definitely true. I was the same way growing up, I'm sure a lot of gay men were, tried to be the golden child. Of course it can lead to good things, but it is interesting to think about.

hottie
by Anonymous | reply 2 | July 3, 2015 7:39 PM |
Why is it always some small time college no ones heard of? Are we gays not good enough for the big time.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | July 3, 2015 7:41 PM |
If a female basketball captain came out, no one would bat an eyelash.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | July 3, 2015 7:52 PM |
Michael Sam was with Missouri, a big time program R3. Paul Donahoe and Kenny Jordan were with Nebraska, a big time program R3.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | July 3, 2015 7:56 PM |
Were Donahoe and Jordan openly gay?
by Anonymous | reply 6 | July 3, 2015 8:00 PM |
Weht to Paul Donahoe, the hot Nebraska wrestler? Is he even gay?
by Anonymous | reply 7 | July 3, 2015 8:01 PM |
R4 - For women's college basketball, at least a quarter of the roster and coaching staff is probably made up of lesbians, so of course it's not a surprise. It's much rarer to see gay men.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | July 3, 2015 8:03 PM |
It's because sports are perceived to be an inherently masculine field. In most people's eyes, straight men/lesbians = masculine and gay men/straight women = feminine or less masculine.
Anyway, here's a pic of Nathan and his fiancé.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | July 3, 2015 8:17 PM |
It is the tiny colleges, yes. The bigger schools, no.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | July 3, 2015 8:24 PM |
Bigger schools are like the pros. Lots of investors. Some regard college as larger or more important than the pros.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | July 3, 2015 8:25 PM |
We need more visibility like this, congratulations to both of them !!
by Anonymous | reply 12 | July 3, 2015 8:34 PM |
Paul Donahoe is a very successful wrestling coach. Kenny Jordan is a pro MMA fighter.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | July 3, 2015 8:38 PM |
Most gay men are shit at sports but sports are tedious, so it's a win-win situation. Whenever I read a headline like "Footballer comes out as gay!" I think what they really mean is "Gay man comes out as a footballer!"
But of course the gay rights movement these days is all about showing straights that we're as square as they are.

Bullshit

FF R16.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | July 3, 2015 10:04 PM |
Have any pics of his anus surfaced?
by Anonymous | reply 19 | July 3, 2015 10:06 PM |
Glad to hear Donahoe is now a very successful wrestling coach. But is he one of us? That being of the cock-gobbling sort.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | July 3, 2015 10:55 PM |
They both are. It's in their face.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | July 3, 2015 11:14 PM |
"It is the tiny colleges, yes. The bigger schools, no."
No, there are gay guys at the bigger schools but they have more to lose by coming out.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | July 4, 2015 12:38 AM |
John is Filipino. Rice queen!
by Anonymous | reply 23 | July 4, 2015 12:46 AM |
Pic from his high school basketball years. He was always a cutie
by Anonymous | reply 24 | July 4, 2015 12:56 AM |
It looks like Donahoe and Jordan might actually be together.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | July 4, 2015 1:00 AM |
Sorry, but no wrestler could be gay, they are all straight like me
by Anonymous | reply 26 | July 4, 2015 1:12 AM |
His fiancé is gross, and he's too young to get married. It's the Michael Sam Trying-Too-Hard Syndrome. He'll be divorced in two years.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | July 4, 2015 1:33 AM |
R27 is the thread's obligatory Debbie Downer
by Anonymous | reply 28 | July 4, 2015 1:34 AM |
r27, a lot of straight people get married at that age.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | July 4, 2015 1:46 AM |
He's hot but really a non story otherwise.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | July 4, 2015 1:52 AM |
Mark my words.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | July 4, 2015 2:30 AM |
I was 21 when I popped the question. Of course there was no gay marriage back then. And he died some years later, but 21 is certainly old enough to marry.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | July 4, 2015 2:47 AM |
He is NOT cute, but good for him for pcoming out.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | July 4, 2015 8:28 AM |
Eeeeeeeew, I clicked on a link to Outsports. I feel dirty. I wish I'd noticed which site it was before clicking.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | July 4, 2015 12:57 PM |
Please post a pic of you or your partner, r33. Oh, that's right. You don't have a partner.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | July 4, 2015 1:59 PM |
R35 - what's the problem?
by Anonymous | reply 37 | July 4, 2015 2:02 PM |
AWG and the fiance is hideous looking.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | July 4, 2015 4:21 PM |
I don't know how I feel about the guys who run that site. Sometimes, I feel like they are decent and other times I get a strong self-loathing vibe from both. I rarely go to that site anymore. I wish there were more LGBT sports related sites though.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | July 4, 2015 4:51 PM |
R39, try Realjock, with which I have no association. Granted, it is a type of hookup site and concentrates on gym and working out in addition to sports, but it has a very lively message board that discusses sports, athletes and gay issues somewhat like the old Outsports board used to.
Outsports is now inactive expect for the content they put out themselves. I used to love Outsports, but very few users post there now. Their message boards (really SBNation comment to user posts)are comatose. It's sort of like DL in that manner: they changed so radically and were no longer what they were thus alienating traditional users. While they may get more "clicks" on their ads now, the site is no longer what it was so much so that to call it Outsports is laughable.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | July 4, 2015 5:05 PM |
Thanks R40. I will!
by Anonymous | reply 41 | July 4, 2015 5:07 PM |
expect = except
by Anonymous | reply 42 | July 4, 2015 5:21 PM |
"He is NOT cute, but good for him for pcoming out."
Please, he is probably 10 times better looking than you are, with a MUCH better body

I'm sorry to hear that, I hope you're doing okay. I think it's extremely difficult to find a partner these days, but think of being very lucky to have that beautiful partner in your life, because some of us may never be that lucky to find anyone as you did...even for a brief moment.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | July 4, 2015 6:42 PM |
[quote]He is NOT cute, but good for him for pcoming out.
You're obviously jealous to be that personal, but if you were nicer, you might find someone too.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | July 4, 2015 6:44 PM |
Both him and the fiance are cute...wtf I feel like yall blind The reason you don't hear about the big school guys is because they have more to lose and might even be closeted their whole lives I mean, I play bush league ball and there are some real homophobes HATE Clemson but Ol' Dabo said himself he's helped out his gay players so I appreciate him for that
by Anonymous | reply 46 | July 4, 2015 7:51 PM |
What a cute story. I'm going to assume he doesn't bottom because I really doubt his finance tops.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | July 5, 2015 12:34 AM |
R47 why, cause he's a flip? You really need to get out more
by Anonymous | reply 48 | July 5, 2015 7:34 AM |
Yuck, his feyonce is gross. He could do so much better.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | July 5, 2015 9:05 AM |
We really need more masculine bisexual and gay dudes to come out. Especially masculine team sport athletes.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | July 5, 2015 11:12 AM |
Feyonce is not gross! She's beautiful!
by Anonymous | reply 51 | July 5, 2015 1:25 PM |
His twin sister is a WNBA player. Here is a clip of him talking about her when she was drafted - he seems like a sweetie
by Anonymous | reply 52 | July 5, 2015 4:18 PM |
Is his fiance really Filipino? He looks kinda Hispanic or Mexican. Either way he's cute!
by Anonymous | reply 53 | July 5, 2015 6:22 PM |

Feyonce? Is that what Queen Bey referred to Jay-Z as before she married him?
