I'm really missing Michael news at the moment. I just want something to look forward to. This year has been quiet so far, apart from the news that he is dating Astrid.

R37 - I know, it's been a really disappointing year for Michael projects, aside from Asphalte.

And even then he didn't get on board with attending festivals where it was showing. I hope that's not what it's going to be like from now on.

R39 - I like Michael a great deal, but that really pissed me off to be honest. There was no good reason to not go to Cannes. It was also completely different to how he usually is about his projects - he promoted the hell out of I, Origins and, prior to that, Rob the Mob. Since Asphalte had good reviews, I can't imagine he did this because he was unhappy with it, but I don't feel it would be right to blame Astrid for it either (although I think she was/is a factor in his decisions this year). You'd think someone who has, rightly or wrongly, got a rep for being unprofessional would want to do everything he could to prove otherwise. And as I said, he's usually very passionate about his work.

Then again, Samuel Benchetrit (the director of Asphalte) doesn't seem to be holding any ill-will towards Michael over his not promoting Asphalte, so maybe they didn't expect him to, or he made it clear he couldn't for whatever reason. But the lack of projects is still a head-scratcher - he worked on, what, three films last year as well as filming Hannibal?

I attended a Q&A with Pitt not too long after they killed off Jimmy and I got the sense that he is the type of actor who wants to control their character. I appreciate that he cares for the character he's playing but ultimately the actor is there to help the showrunners/creators present their story, not dictate it. During the Q&A he said that what was difficult for him was not knowing where his character was going. He talked about a scene where Jimmy had to say something racist and Pitt felt it was out of character and told the writers that he didn't want to say it so TPTB offered to bring someone in dub the line instead of changing it. Not having total control over his character was hard for him.

He's a great actor, but I think the perception that he's difficult has hurt him.

Exactly, that's why I always believed it. Of course, JGL's dipshit fans still deny it to this day, insisting he wouldn't date someone 'like that,' as if they actually know the guy. I do think the evidence is there, although it is all very circumstantial. For instance, I checked up on Lainey's later claim that Michael and JGL spoke to each other at some party, and while obviously that wasn't photographed, they were there. And why would she make that up anyway? She'd already revealed it was them at her gossip soiree thing earlier in the year. I also found a post someone who claimed to have seen them on the NY subway together, and that sighting seemed legit since it wasn't mentioned in connection with any of this, it was just a thread talking about celebrities people had seen on the subway. Since JGL was in NY for several months that year filming The Dark Knight Rises and doing hitRECord stuff, I'd say that fits rather well. I get what you're saying, but this the same argument that always gets brought out and I find it incredibly specious. There are many reasons actors might not want same-sex relationships to be publicly known (I think we discussed the possibility that it was related to his family in a previous thread). And to flip this on its head somewhat - I think if Michael were straight, he would've just said so. The one time he was asked, he said he felt bisexual in the way he thinks everyone is.

But most of all - why would anyone make all this up? You can discount one - there's bound to be a bullshitter in the pack somewhere - but how do you explain the others? Why would anyone make up a detailed story about him and JGL, someone he wasn't known to be friends with? Why did neither of them deny it? Michael denied other rumours linking him to people, some of them that weren't even a big deal.

Did anybody ever read that account of somebody who met Michael outside the Coffee and Cigarettes premiere ( or something like that) and they said Michael was completely stoned and he was late and started yelling at the people on the door to let him in. Apparently Michael is mentioned and appears in stock footage in the JT Leroy doc that showed at Sundance. It's got good reviews, although this particular Tweeter hated Laura (the woman behind JT), which is understandable because Laura's an asshole. The whole thing about her recording calls is creepy.

Really don't like that James Franco is involved with the JT Leroy movie, since he's good friends with JGL and he has it out for Michael. That whole group (Seth Rogen, Franco, JGL) are like the lame beer fart-smelling douchebag equivalent to Taylor Swift's bimbo squad.

Reading the reviews for Jared Leto's Joker in Suicide Squad makes me wish they had given Michael a shot, it sounds like Leto's take is underwhelming (though that could be the writing).

In a more recent interview, he says he wants to be more bankable so he can keep getting his indies financed. Smart thinking, but the pressures of being famous now are even bigger (and stranger, due to social media) then they were before and he hasn't exactly coped well with this in the past.

I don’t know if this is the most current Michael Pitt thread, but I’m bumping it because—very exciting!—my boyfriend just told me that Pitt climbed into bed with him in the early 2000s. I was asking him what he knew about JGL (mostly gay, says my BF), and Pitt is definitely bi, leaning gay. My boyfriend is gay but “straight acting” (skater/surfer type). He works with people in the movie business but that is not the industry he works in primarily.

It's kind of too late. He was offered a lot of big parts 15 years ago and turned them down and blew it with Boardwalk Empire. He reminds me of Josh Hartnett who burned a lot of bridges on his way up. These kind of actors need to strike when it's hot.

R474 I disagree about it being too late. Male actors have a much longer shelf life than women in he industry, and plenty have found success in their 40s - Mark Ruffalo used to make indies and controversial films and has ended up in the Marvel franchise. Also, I'd say Michael is much more talented than Hartnett. And even Hartnett had a nice mini-comeback with Penny Dreadful.
