Has anyone been to the Deep Dark Web?
The Deep web is what they call it. Content so dark and illegal that it cannot be picked up by traditional google searches. I'm not going to venture into that territory because I have heard web hosters in that dark recess of the web can find out your identity in an instant as well as your home address. It is also a place where many illicit experiments are performed on unsuspecting humans and the homeless. Never knew of the origins until now.
Apparently you can visit it by going to deepdotweb.com
Learned of its origins from this youtube vid.

sounds like an urban legend to me ......... if it exists, NO I wouldn't be interested .......shit is already dark enough for me on the regular internet.

I know the deep web does exist, but is all of that about human experimentation true? Why wouldn't the FBI crack down on that?

Yes. I read an article about some guy who got caught buying the next generation of party drug from china via the deep web. I can't remember the street name, but a bunch of people got sick or maybe even died from it. And yes, I even think it was in Florida.

I had a friend who visited the Deep Dark Web... and then she died.
And then her death showed up on the Deep Dark Web.

It does exist but I've no need to go there. I get all my porn needs from the normal stuff and don't need to find something illegal. I'm not into drugs and don't care about hacking or stuff like that. But never say never. Some day I might get bored and venture into the unknown waters a bit. I'm scared of being watched, though. You can't really trust Tor or other same kind of services so you'd have to connect elsewhere than from your home or through your mobile.

Yes, R4, Flocka. You don't need to go to the Deep Web for that, just Ft. Lauderdale.

Just a heads up, in the dark web many links go to child porn sites. So I would not advise anyone to go there.

R1 It does exist. Wikileaks started on the Deep Web, and even today they work with it to accept new submissions from whistleblowers. Its advantage is that, whereas Google, the NSA etc. can know you're accessing TOR, they can't know what you do on it. Privacy activists all work with TOR.
The problem is that, as happens whenever human beings manage to escape the force of the law, the Deep Web is a fertile ground for all kinds of filth. Stolen art, drugs, heavy guns, hitmen*, and illegal porn can all be ordered through mainstream Deep Web sites, and the Deep Web appears to be littered with pictures of mutilated genitals. There are also sites where you can watch sexual abuse be streamed live. And It's through the Deep Web that terrorists communicate (that's why some people argue the NSA is useless in combating terror activity).
Here's a funny story: It was when I discovered about the Deep Web some 2 years ago that I started my habit of locking the window to my bedroom before going to sleep.
* The vast majority of Deep Web hitmen, however, appear to be undercover government agents. That's how they caught Ross Ulbricht, founder of Silk Road, the Deep Web's Amazon. He ordered several murders using Deep Web hitmen, who all turned out to be FBI agents.

I read an article recently about TOR use being prevalent among white supremacist groups who want to keep their activities as secret as possible. I had never even heard of TOR before reading that article, as I have had zero interest in perusing the dark corners of the internet and hiding interactions where illegal and disturbing content can be found. I think if you go looking for trouble, you'll ultimately wish you'd left the trouble alone. I see no upside to viewing that kind of stuff.

They do, they can use it to view the sites. But the problem is that TOR doesn't allow them to go past it and locate where the users are or their servers. They found the silk road guy because of mistakes he made, infiltrating his inner circle, and finding the main TOR server he was using on a lucky break.

I was curious so I checked it out. I used Tor. It had to link to or through something else as well (I don't remember). It was an additional masking/access layer. Sounds more complicated than it was, it only took a few minutes to download Tor, do the other thing I can't remember, and I was good to go.
I didn't see any kiddie porn. I poked around all over for several hours, going in and out of a lot of different sites. I'm sure there's plenty of kiddie porn there, it just didn't pop up and slime me.
I didn't think the drug prices were particularly attractive. (I have scripts for Norco and pot so they're not going to beat those anyway.) There was a great variety of drugs on offer, plenty of heroin and the hard stuff.
I didn't see any hitmen or Lindsay Lohan selling her snatch or anything too too awful. It never felt creepy or dangerous. There are criminals, they're doing some crimes. Other people there are doing god knows what, doubtless they are also committing crimes or just dicking around. It's not as if they can mug you and grab your bitcoins. You have to actually have some bitcoins first, which I do not.
However, it is the "dark alley" of the internet, rife with shady characters and people who would "mug" you if they could. Keep your wits about you and keep moving right along. There's no harm in passing through.
I haven't felt any need to see it again but it was interesting. When people talk about the "Deep Web" now (as in this thread), I actually know what they are talking about. It wasn't scary.

But if Tor is just a web browser, don't you have to know where to go? I mean on my firefox I still have to open it and type in a URL or go to google and search for stuff. So I don't understand how the guy in the video was saying he went on Tor and all of a sudden all of this sick stuff came up on screen. It sounds like you can do regular web browsing on Tor as well.

You can. To find contraband, you have to look for it. No illegal images are going to jump out at you.
Note: Please know that using a phone app to access Tor is not secure. If you're buying drugs (or worse), use a PC.

So you get on the deep web, is there a record on your computer showing where you've been? On the few of the videos I've seen the one thing they've all said is to know where you want to go because you could easily end up on a child pron site because the name of the sites can be very deceptive, so how do you avoid that? Or can't you if you're just messing around checking out the differant sites like you would on the regular web?

Venturing onto darkweb doesn't mean you're randomly assaulted by unsolicited pics of kidporn and offers from hitmen. It just means you can communicate and browse without your activities being easily tracked to your IP address. I've never sought out or found illegal porn but the drug markets are surprisingly straightforward and business-like. Some of you marys are clutching your pearls too tight.

R51 is that a reference to recreational drugs or prescription ones? RXes can be found all over the regular internet too. I wonder if there's a benefit to ordering them through the Tor browser? But - sorry for all the dumb questions - don't you have to give them a mailing address anyway which can be tracked by authorities? Did people just order illegal stuff through Silk Road and have it shipped to their home or PO Box? I would be scared to do that (MARY!)... what if the post office opened the packages?
