I think you meant knee-on lights.

Maybe it lost money and is closing because its owned and operated by a straight couple.

Will Elton John re-issue a very special version of Candle In The Wind?

I thought Julius' was the oldest gay bar in NY.

Baltimore is losing it's iconic gay dance bar, The Pink Hippo which will be closing around September 1st

Another CVS is expected to occupy the space where the gay bar has been situated since 1972. Before it was a gay bar, the location house a restaurant called ONE WEST and before that the space was a nightclub called The Chanticleer.

-speaking of which, I wonder if John Waters ever got lucky there at the Hippo?

by Anonymousreply 9June 26, 2015 12:21 AM

Hate to say this but Candle bar hasn't been relevant in more than 20 years

by Anonymousreply 10June 26, 2015 12:23 AM

We've lost gay culture. In return, we got gay marriage.

Was it worth the trade?

No, IMO...

Maybe 2015 Troll is actually communicating from 2015. He’s stuck in some time warp.

Snuffed out huh?

CANDLE BAR? I sometimes attend services on the Upper West Side near West 75th Street. Maybe I'm mistaken, but I don't recall seeing a gay bar on Amsterdam earlier this year. Perhaps OP has the wrong block? There's a pizzeria and a hummus restaurant on Amsterdam Avenue, and a cookie bakery around the corner, but there's no CANDLE BAR.

I’d be careful getting any type of flame in that place. There’s probably so much poppers soaked into every surface that an explosion could rival that of Beirut. This is probably all for the best.
