To me that was the the height of showbiz as a child.
Remember when Charo sang "Love is in the Air" on The Love Boat

No I do not.
My first memory, though, is watching "Moving with Nancy" when I was four. The pretty lady was singing in a car. Then the pretty lady was singing about liking cola. Then, best of all, she got in a balloon and floated away as she sang, and people seemed to fly through the air! I still remember it quite clearly.

No, but I remember she was on LB many times and back then I always thought she was funny. It was a family show, I was a kid and I remember our whole family watched it for first few seasons and Charo was funny to all of us.

In February 2011, Charo made a personal appearance at the now closed Splash Bar in NYC - she "sang" a song written by her son Shel Rasten (google him he is gorgeous). She told the crowd that her son wrote the song for Britney Spears but she heard it and say "FOOK Bridaney Speah!! I wan' dat song!". So she sang it and then went down into the crowd and boogied with the boys on the dance floor. Several of the bartenders and go-go boys had on blonde Charo wigs. You would have died and gone to heaven, OP.

I just found out about her son, he's kinda hot in a fake Hollywood way.

I love that this is tagged as "terror"

I looked up Shel...his face looks kind of "off" to me. Not my idea of hot. And I can't believe Charo is still rocking the same hairstyle she had 40 years ago.

I swear I remember her doing a cover on Olivia Newton-John's "Physical" on "The Love Boat" but my Google doesn't seem to be able to confirm this repressed false memory.
FWIW, her son does absolutely nothing for me. I think her sister and costume designer is much prettier than her.

Saw Charo do her show in Hawaii in the late 90's. Boundless energy and just a fabulous entertainer. Bought both her albums and had her sign them after the show. She was everything you want a crazy icon to be!

How much would you need to be paid to binge watch six full episodes of “Love Boat” with only one bathroom break?
by Anonymous | reply 16 | September 2, 2020 2:16 AM |
Can I pick the episodes, r6? Or at least request the early seasons before Lauren Tewes left and Ted McGinley joined the cast?

No, OP, I don't remember that at all. Did you catch Maurice Chavalier's act on the Titanic?

My god, they're all geezers! The old guy in the middle doesn't have any teeth. The black guy looks like Prince Rainier in blackface.

I don't recall Charo singing that on the Love Boat, but she did sing it on one of those Bob Hope Navy shows he did.

r8, I remember her singing Physical on the Love Boat. The way she pronounced "physical" made me laugh.
