Fragrance

I don't wear after shave or cologne (although I do rub Irish Spring gel aftershave on my neck sometimes, cause I love the smell). But I wish there was a fragrance out there that smelled like locker room/jocks, kind of musty. Anyone know of any?

On another note, do pheromones actually have the desired effect?)

by Anonymousreply 88August 30, 2020 3:24 AM

I have one that to me smells like someone polished the wood inside a cigar store with Lemon Pledge: Luna Rossa.

If you go to a REAL perfume shop (not the perfume counter at a department store) you can ask to smell colognes with civet, castoreum, and or yyrax. And with "leather" notes, too.

No cologne is going to smell like sweat, pitts, butt, balls, but there are some pretty rank colognes that smell like testosteroned cologned unwashed men. There is a machine in perfumery that decode any smell. Its literally a dome that you put over the scent the company wants to capture. Thats ho we got late 90s early 2000 colognes.

In principal they could make a scent that smells like locker room but I guess they've certainly run mixes like that by their nose, who gave thumbs down.

Try Quorum by Puig. I guess its a late 70s or early 80s smell. It really does smell like a sweaty sexy 70's spanish stud who's put on some cologne. It reeks extremely masculine and a bit rancid.

by Anonymousreply 3June 20, 2015 7:50 PM

White Diamonds by Elizabeth Taylor! Everyone in the office will remark at how suddenly butch you seem.

by Anonymousreply 4June 20, 2015 7:51 PM

Dior Fahrenheit, Zino Davidoff, Yatagan Caron, Kouros YSL, Envy (men) Gucci, Antidote Victor & Rolf, Ho Hang Balenciaga.....!

by Anonymousreply 5June 20, 2015 9:42 PM

OP - what locker-rooms are you using that smell musty?

When you say jocks do you mean men or jock straps?

It seems you want to smell like men who have just worked out in a shirt and shorts that haven't been laundered in a year. In which case just do that.

by Anonymousreply 6June 21, 2015 1:39 AM

Try Bandit by Robert Piguet OP.

It has 'dark , animal' notes of Leather, Tobacco and Galbanam, which means it has 'funk' in the dry down reminiscent of a pre-smoking ban gay bar at 2am. You'll love it.

Barring a true perfumeries, the original Geoffrey Beane, Grey Flannel is good. Grassy.

by Anonymousreply 8June 21, 2015 2:53 AM

I have never known a cologne that smelled so different on so many men as Grey Flannel. Maybe it's a function of how much they put on, but on some guys I loved it, while on others it smelled horrendously, I don't know, sour. Not something I ever wore.

Nothing smells quite as vile as the products of Davidoff.

Provocative for night: YSL's Noir or Gucci's Guilty Intense

Rose 31 by Le Labo smells sweaty and dirty, in a good way.

by Anonymousreply 11June 21, 2015 7:13 AM

If the Rose 31 is too mannered for you, Muscs Koublai Khan is dirtier and muskier.

CB I Hate Perfume Musk is just pure filth. It smells like sex with a sweaty, dirty, drunk chain-smoker in a dirty room filled with rubber.

by Anonymousreply 12June 21, 2015 7:38 AM

Try Monsieur Houbigant, but only use the tiniest amount from the tip of a Q-tip. Otherwise you'll just small like a whore.

I heard a story about a mad gang fuck in a locker room this one time which was caused by MH, and afterward, no one remembered what happened. Except the instigator, of course.

by Anonymousreply 13June 21, 2015 8:33 AM

I like Cumming. It smells like a video arcade in the 70s; scents of ashtray, fucked ass and burnt rubber. LOVE IT!

Jacomo was always a favorite musky cologne.

When I read descriptions of fragrances they all sorts of things under base notes, top notes, etc...

What does that mean exactly?

I am only attracted to what's called Oriental scents.

What sort of things should be listed in the base/top notes for an Oriental fragrance?

by Anonymousreply 21June 21, 2015 3:39 PM

R21 -- Essences of durian and kimchi

by Anonymousreply 22June 21, 2015 3:42 PM

R22

I've never read any of those things before.

by Anonymousreply 23June 21, 2015 4:22 PM

It depends on whether you prefer Floral Orientals (look for orange blossom, cinnamon, nutmeg) Soft Orientals (incense, amber) or Woody Orientals (sandalwood, patchouli), R21.

by Anonymousreply 24June 21, 2015 4:53 PM

R24

Are Opium or Poison considered floral orientals, soft orientals or woody orientals?

by Anonymousreply 25June 21, 2015 6:12 PM

Although I'm not an expert, I'm going to guess those are floral are soft orientals, because those are women's perfumes. Here are the top notes for Opium:

Its top notes are a mixture of fruit and spices, with mandarin orange, plum, clove, coriander and pepper, as well as bay leaf. Its floral middle notes consist predominantly jasmine, rose and Lily of the Valley, in addition to carnation, cinnamon, peach and orris root.

For Poison Top notes: Coriander, pimento, plum, anise, mace, rosewood, carnation. Heart notes: Rose, tuberose, ylang-ylang, carnation, cinnamon, jasmine, lily of the valley

With a little experimenting, you should be able to figure out which of these scents appeal to you most.

(Also gone, Floris Carnation but that wasn't so masculine obviously.)

[quote] Please enlighten me, but are fragrances, or most, just chemical concoctions with nothing natural in them?

You're not going to get the kind of fucked up musk scent everyone's talking about from "nature" unless you jack off or kill a bear and rub its testes all over your body. Some other fragrance notes may originate from natural sources, but be processed to the point of being virtually artificial.

The truth is that for almost all these fragrance substances, nobody knows how safe they really are- most haven't been tested and many are unknown as they are "proprietary".

But, "if it gets you cock, it's worth it" is the general consensus.

It's worth pointing out that natural scents, such as those that come from essential oils are not necessarily safe either. Like the artificial scents used in perfumes and colognes, they can cause allergic reactions in many people. For some people, these reactions take years to fully develop, also known as being "sensitized".

However, the risks of essential oils are far more understood (they've been around longer) than the fragrances of the month that the perfume houses keep pumping out which potentially have much wider reaching negative effects.

Then again, something can't really be called decadent, if there's no risk involved. :)

I have the Mistral Cedarwood Marine soap (pour homme!) and it smells like a classy [italic]ass[/italic] (read: musky) Irish Springs. It also comes as a fragrance.

There are a bunch of Fragrance Experts on YT. Plenty of them really like M7. It is one of my favorites. They seem to be unanimous in HATING a scent called etat libre d'orange secretions magnifiques. I believe that ELdO is the manufacturer of Secretions Magnifiques. the most reviled scent on earth.

by Anonymousreply 45July 12, 2015 6:46 AM

I used to have sex with a lad whose underarms and crotch had this deliciously goaty smell. I used to get him to rub his foreskin under my nose while sitting on my face. It was a fabulously rank sweet sour scent unique to him. Wish I could have bottled it: I could have been a new Tom Ford.

It is ELdO and it's vile. I didn't pick up any of the sexual aspect, only metal, sea water, and blood. The best way I can describe it is having your wisdom teeth out and going home and taking a long Vicodin nap. You wake up with a nasty, oozing, bloody mouth and try to rinse out the congealed blood and fresh blood with salt water. That is Secretions Magnifiques.

by Anonymousreply 48July 15, 2015 12:20 AM

Cumming by Alan Cumming smells like a video arcade at 4 in the morning; tobacco, sweaty leather, burnt rubber and a certain faint redolence of the after aroma of vigorous butt sex. I wear it to work when I know I will be dealing with assholes. I really like it.

For shits and giggles I bought Takei's Oh, My. Surprisingly it is a rather nice citrusy-floral scent. Good to wear to brunch.

For expensive: "L'Antimatiere" by Les Nez For cheap but good: Tommy Hilfiger "Tommy" or "CKone" applied sparingly Medium range: "Jockey Club" by Caswell Massey

by Anonymousreply 50July 15, 2015 1:03 PM

L'Antimatière is lovely, also their violet scent, the unicorn one.

Also L'Eau by Serge Lutens for guys who like a clean, outdoorsy, minimal scent.

Check out Wood by Dsquared. There's a couple versions but I think it may be exactly what you're looking for OP. It's not that easy to find, but sometimes they have it at Sephora.

Another alternative to check out is Terre D'Hermes.

Sécrétions Magnifiques is supposed to be a joke, the smell of cum. Like their Fat Electrician, I'm certain they released these purely to raise the brand's profile. État Libre d'Orange do some well regarded perfumes such as their collaboration with Tilda Swinton.

It's called Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS).

by Anonymousreply 75September 29, 2018 9:23 AM

R75 Though not afflicted and still enjoying scents, that is a good attribution for many people. I try to avoid synthetic fragrances, but so many even heritage fragrance houses use them now. I suspect the pthalates, and other chemical fixatives, and these chemical scents are to blame. I knowseveral people like this now, and some are still quite young. There are so many needlless chemicals we come into contact each day. Body wash and lotions are another source of this chemical wizardry.
