and I cannot get passed Jane Wyman's hideous hair which I believe she kept most of her life. It aged her terribly. She was so much prettier with longer hair.
Wonderful actress but you're right about the hair which she adopted early on. Those bangs. Yuck ! Real helmet head.
Cousin of mine was attending VMI when they filmed BROTHER RAT back in '38. Reagan, Wyman, Eddie Albert were all there and my cousin (grandmother's 1st actually) who was then a senior was assigned to escort 'Miss Wyman' while she was on campus. He said that she was wonderful. He said that the guys were tripping over themselves trying to help her etc but that she couldn't have been nicer. Said she was a great story teller, very gracious and very much a lady. Half dozen years later this same cousin lived next to Gene Tierney for a while during WWII and said that she was a real pain in the ass, stuck on herself and thought she was 'above it all'. Apparently that was the general consensus on the base of Ft. Riley where Gene was living with her then husband Oleg Cassini.

The straight across bangs were a horrible look for anyone. June Allyson, Joan Crawford all looked awful and old when they got that style.

R1 What your cousin said about Gene Tierney seriously depresses me. She's my favourite actress and I always thought she seemed to be sweet and gracious... I could imagine Oleg Cassini being really full of himself but not Gene :(

Fuck you, OP. The short hair highlights her girlish charm.

Very twisted movie. Gotta love Sirk! Plus Switzerland is hilarious in his movies.

Of course...
Wait a minute!! I've gotta call someone to tell them come over here and pick me up. Must be sure and tell them to wear their safety belts...

Don't try and use this unless you're ready for it! This is dangerous stuff. One of the first men who used it went to the cross at the age of 33.

Did Mamie Eisenhower start the bangs craze or did she just popularize it?

Wyman was what my mother described, in a slightly hushed tone, as "hard-looking."
She always gave the impression of having grown up fast on the wrong side of the tracks, having dabbled in whore wrangling, confidence schemes, and Mississippi River boat gambling. Cross that rough ass bitch at your own peril.

She had bad hair, the kind that is frog-fuzz fine, very straight and resists curl.

[R13] Did your cousin ever say anything about actor Wayne Morris who had another big part in "Brother Rat"? I always liked him. He was a genuine ace as a pilot during WWII too and after the war his career was never as big as before.

No, only what I mentioned above.
