Upper West Side's only gay bar closing.
NOO!!!! First gay bar I ever went to. I was petrified.
So sorry to see such an institution close.

Truly surprised it was still open.

I met the man of my dreams there in 1976, and gradually threw him away. Though he was handsome, and magnificently hung, and J-e-w-i-s-h, he loved me more than I liked him. I was such a snob. He lived in the 80s and I lived in the 60s, and well, the 80s were just [italic]too[/italic] far uptown. Plus I was mad about someone I'd met in the Village that summer.
My life with David might have been wonderful. He told me again how much he had loved me/lusted after me while he was grudgefucking me one night a year later. He'd moved on, of course. Met someone else. One of my saddest, stupidest, "what ifs."

Is there going to be a party? Do they want Jello salads?

[quote] I was petrified.
So are the patrons.

R3 I hope you're not still haunted by that. It wasn't meant to be.

Oh noes! Where will Nathan Lane go now to be an obnoxious drunk?

Great! Bring in the cots for the homeless!

Goodbye, Candle Bar.

Sads it's closing. I must've spent hundreds of hours there. Sounds like the one across Broadway on the street closed earlier. The one with the bicycle out front? Three of Clubs it might have been called. That was slutty. Candle was druggie.

r13, was that on 75th, west of Broadway? I walked past there all the time and was afraid to go in. The Candle was pretty slutty, too. It had a backroom downstairs where one could have one's candle lit.

Yes, that's the one r14. Slutty backyard.

r15, your name isn't David by any chance, is it?
by Anonymous | reply 16 | August 9, 2020 9:08 AM |
Nope.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | August 9, 2020 1:15 PM |
R12 now that’s stuck in my head.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | August 13, 2020 2:09 PM |
I was a regular there for a while about 20 years ago. Hoo boy. It was a great refuge post-9/11.
I was broke as a joke one night and found $20 on the floor of the bathroom. I can't even describe how happy that made me. I'll make that the memory of my time there instead of all the cringey times I had there.

Sure r19. That’s how you got $20 in the men’s room. You “found” it.

Why is this 2015 thread being bumped again?
Did Trump rape another 13-year-old?
Did the Epstein tapes drop with Dershowtiz's dick in Trump's mouth?
Did Kushner funnel $112 million into a shell company under the name of one of Trump's whores and she has the forced abortion receipts?

r22 All signs point to "yes," "yes," and "yes."

Back in my day it was called, "Six bucks the hard way," R19.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | August 13, 2020 2:53 PM |
Went there back in the early 80s. Haven't been back to New York much at all.
