He either left to go off on his own or was given the boot, I tend to think the latter because as Jill's son he was a legacy character. The writers positioned his widow Nina against Kay and Jill very effectively. Tricia Cast won and Emmy and more than held her own with Jeanne Cooper and Jess Walton.

In one of the most BIZARRE re-writes ever it was revealed that Phillip didn't die in the hospital after his car crash, but rather he faked his death because he was gay and moved to Australia.

It made no sense because it was cruel of Phillip to run out on his own family, including his newborn son.

They should have just let Phillip continue on as a hot drunken, meat head of a mess.

Yes, limited runs help telenovelas tremendously. Shows run from 4 to 6 months and they shoot outdoors and on location. Mexican telenovelas look the cheapest and Brazilian telenovelas look the most expensive. Teen telenovelas will run 9 months but they're more ensemble pieces about the events of a school year. The Fox show Empire is much closer in tone to a telenovela than a soap opera. That's what it feels like when it's good. Speaking of which, I miss Rafael de la Fuente on Empire. If you're going to come out, do it with that guy wrapped around you.
