Looks like the old Bally's at Worldwide Plaza will get a complete makeover as a new David Barton Gym.
It'll be nice to have a gym across the street from my apartment again. Crunch is a longer walk, so I don't make myself go as much.

by Anonymous | reply 4 | May 21, 2015 2:23 AM |
r1, let me get this straight: you won't walk to a gym because it's too much exercise?!?
by Anonymous | reply 5 | May 21, 2015 2:25 AM |
Alright R4.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | May 21, 2015 2:29 AM |
No, R1, I go 5 or 6 times a week. It's just easier to walk directly across the street to the location of my old gym- the new David Barton, than to walk for 20 minutes to get to the one I've had to go to since the closer one closed 6 months ago.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | May 22, 2015 2:25 AM |
sorry that was meant for R5.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | May 22, 2015 2:26 AM |
Hmmm. I wonder is anyone will have sex in the steam rooms there.

by Anonymous | reply 12 | May 22, 2015 11:07 AM |
Like all David Barton Gyms, the sauna will feature a nacreous layer of permacum at no extra charge.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | May 22, 2015 11:20 AM |
Well, does anybody know what David is doing himself these days? He was fired from the gym about two years ago and lost the rights to his name, or has all of that been resolved now?
by Anonymous | reply 14 | May 22, 2015 11:27 AM |
Finally a new steamroom to masturbate in!
by Anonymous | reply 15 | May 22, 2015 11:28 AM |
R10 it's nacreous nacreous nacreous, NOT aqueous, sheesh get it right
by Anonymous | reply 16 | May 22, 2015 11:31 AM |
Hmmmm. I missed the press in 2013 about his leaving the company. I've always thought it so odd when a founder leaves a company which bears his name. It certainly is a time marker when something like this happens. The facility at Worldwide Plaza was shabby by the time Bally's closed. It will be interesting to see what they do with it.

[quote]Best gym evah!
I'm a member of David Barton/Limelight. Interesting gym... What I do like about it is the reuse of a historic structure. They did a terrific job. Since I've been there it has never been really crowded. That's a good thing because the machines, (all new), are nearly on top of each other. If it were to get very crowded there wouldn't be much elbow room. Lots of towels all over. Purified water. Very clean locker room, but "meh" products. The showers are great, though.
Lots of gorgeous men wearing sexy workout gear who look real good/hot in them. Now... that's sort of a problem that I do have with this gym location--not many seem to really workout. That sort of takes away the motivation. A lot of subtle cruising; people texting; or just standing around hoping to be admired. One wonders how the trainers make any money. I've seen about six or seven of them, (the trainers), and there are only two, (in my opinion), who seem as if they are really good--when they're working. The others just seem as if they are just going through the motions. But, if it's eyecandy you want, it's definitely here. I've seen two porn stars so far here. I won't name them because... well, they're there to workout...supposedly, and probably wouldn't want to be bothered.
The trainig manager should come up with a better equipment layout for the gym. The free weights are too far from the bench pressing area, and some of the areas are so close to the wall that it would be difficult for somebody to spot you.
I would say that I'm not going to be a long-term member of this gym, but is is something to say that I have experienced.

by Anonymous | reply 45 | January 20, 2016 11:45 PM |
Alright, I just learned more about this last night. This particular gym isn't the David Bartons that many of us think that it is. Remember that David was fired by David Barton gyms, and he always talked about starting up another gym. BUT, there were restrictions on the use of his own name, and that's why this new gym, (which opens today or tomorrow), is called David Barton's ""TMPL". Actually the name of the gym is "TMPL Gym", and David Barton introduces the gym. It is NOT associated with the David Barton chain.

Apply R57! You never know! All they can say is either "yes" or "no".
I have a story for you.... I am a member of David Barton Limelight, (no affiliation with this new gym), and one of the locker room guys (CUTE!!!!) worked there. He started out as an out of shape and overweight guy. One of the benefits is that you get to workout at the gym for free. He did his job of course BUT he also made use of the gym. Long story short.... He's now one of these Instagram models and to help him get there MANY of the trainers coached him for free!
If you can do it and if you can afford it... give it a shot!

Okay, I went to the opening party last night. The gym is HUGE! They're gonna need A LOT of members to fill that place, so expect membership deals to come about not too long from now, especially since we are moving into summer! Probably if you work in one of the major offices around there you're going to get a BIG discount. It's a beautiful spacious place. A little out of the way for me, but if you're familiar with NYC, it's about half a block down from what used to be the $2 movie house on 50th-51st street on the west side. It's Worldwide Plaza, (most people don't know the name of the building), and the subways for the area are the "A, C, & E"
It was the party for the "beautiful" people, meaning that, if you are 30 pounds overweight you would have had your feelings hurt. Seriously! These are the people who LIVE in the gym. The mirror is definitely their best friend! These are your people who are models, fashion, PR, television, etc. The Personal Trainers that they had there... LORD! JESUS! Ah! But there was one guy who was overweight that I did see! Think of a white male version of Jessye Norman. He carried himself like that too. He was wearing this very large Chanel scarf around his neck, and walked around in a very "kingly" fashion. The party was top shelf open bar.
Lots of boys there walking around in their skimpy underwear. There were girls too, but not as many as the boys. Lots of boys walking around in their high heels, though...
Who did I see there who was famous--besides myself, LOL
Michael, (Musto)--He looks good! He has lost weight.
Amanda, (Lepore)--ALL plastic now! The breasts don't move at all.
Don Lemon--Much smaller and skinnier than I would have thought him to be.
Susan,(Bartsch)--It was her party
Courtney (The guy from Bravo's "Workout NYC")
Robert Verdi
I saw a few porn stars. The major whore, (and I'm only saying that because he was recognized by many who wanted to have their picture taken with him--and he definitely obliged), was Austin Wolf . Say what you want about the guy, but his body is damn near perfect! He's tall too. Or, I'm short... Either way, he looks to be about 6' 2" or 3.
The other one I saw was Rocco Steele
My most shocking moment was seeing a bodybuilder, who is/was a male escort too, working there as a personal trainer. Gives me even more reason to join!
by Anonymous | reply 74 | March 23, 2016 12:04 PM |

What? That's old news. They're people too, and they need to workout. For them, it's a requirement! Anyway, DBG ALWAYS had porn stars as members. In fact, that was one of the attractions to the place. You can always see a porn star here or there;
DBG Limelight
Equinox--Greenwich St
NYSC--16th St.
Crunch--Christopher St

by Anonymous | reply 79 | March 23, 2016 12:31 PM |
Went there last night also, beautiful space and yes, it's huge. Wonder how many people are joining versus just were there.
by Anonymous | reply 80 | March 23, 2016 1:31 PM |
This sounds exhausting, like the PR tents along the marina at the Monte Carlo Grand Prix. Everyone "beautiful" and hustling desperately for.... something, I guess. Nobody as VIP as they'd like to be. Lots of glossy surfaces adding up to something not luxurious.
by Anonymous | reply 81 | March 23, 2016 1:50 PM |
BINGO, R81!
by Anonymous | reply 82 | March 23, 2016 2:04 PM |
He says they've signed up almost 2,000 people already
by Anonymous | reply 83 | March 23, 2016 2:54 PM |
[quote]Wonder how many people are joining versus just were there.
That's a good question. I did not see anyone going around trying to "sell' the place. I did ask one of those GORGEOUS personal trainers about membership, as they had all gotten together just to do some bench presses. I was told that the gym "might" have someone upstairs to talk to about membership.
Anyway, this is what I've noticed, and not just at this gym, ... people are horrible at sales!
Now, these personal trainers tended to congregate among themselves. I noticed this because you couldn't help but notice them! What an opportunity that many of them had to walk around, introduce themselves, pass out a business card, etc. Sure! They might not get someone to join the gym, but there is an opportunity for a private client. Blah, blah, blah, about what these gyms say about having private clients while you work for them! We all know how this works.
Anyway.... I heard that the big deal now is NYSC--that's if you're in NYC. This new TMPL gym; Crunch, and especially Equinox, have all chipped away successfully at NYSC's market share. Especially Equinox...and that's $207/month!!! But, there are many companies that are currently subsidizing employee's memberships, and that's part of the reason that people are joining these higher priced gyms. Anyway, I heard that NYSC on Madison or Park Ave at 39th St, I believe... is $60/month AND that includes tanning sessions!
by Anonymous | reply 84 | March 23, 2016 3:10 PM |
Thanks for article R83. There's always the possibility that he inflated that number. This is what I found interesting about that article though; With ALL of the people that Susanne knows... she can't raise this money?
It only supports R83's comment; "Nobody as VIP as they'd like to be. Lots of glossy surfaces adding up to something not luxurious."

I do not understand the appeal of his gyms, he is so 1990, tired , and his brand is sooo old, I would never go to or join a DB Gym anywhere....So tired and diluted , he has so lost his original focus on health and wellness, with his DJ's and disco balls, go away.
by Anonymous | reply 91 | March 23, 2016 9:36 PM |
Yes exactly R91, that's what I thought while watching the video. The club/nightlife culture—which TMPL and Barton uphold and part of their brand—is feuled by drugs and alcohol, or at least it is a major element. What does that have to do with health and wellness? I think I'll stick with my blink membership for now.

by Anonymous | reply 107 | April 26, 2016 9:01 PM |
I've been going to this gym for almost a year now. It's beautiful, well kept, has courteous staff, has all the equipment I need (which can get crowded at peak times, like any gym), and best of all, it's directly across the street from my apartment. The thing I absolutely cannot stand is the music. Yes, some of it is not to my taste, but that's not the issue, really. I don't expect for them to play only the music that I like to work out to. It's the volume. It is too God Damned loud. Almost all of the time. I'm not a prude. I love a lot of music, and yes, sometimes I'll turn it up. But there is no way to this out. It's oppressive and assaultive. I understand creating an atmosphere, but when it's imposed so aggressively I don't get it. 80-90% of the people in the gym at any time are wearing headphones anyway, so why is it so important to have the gym's music that loud? Normal earphones do not tune it out. You're left with the dueling beats of two different songs. After a month or so, I was fed up with it and purchased $400 Bose noise cancelling headphones. At first I thought it was the answer. But alas, I guess the first couple of times I used them, I was there early in the morning and the music was at a slightly lower volume than the other times. Trainers have to strain to talk to their clients. And there is no escape from it. Even the stretching area has speakers pumping it out at the same fucking volume as everywhere else in the gym, so one can't even cool down from a workout in peace. It's like going to a restaurant that has great atmosphere and delicious food, and you can order anything on the menu. But, they insist on putting Velveeta Cheese on every single fucking dish that comes out of the kitchen, no matter what. I occasionally can see other members wincing. It enrages me. I'm paying TMPL Gym a monthly fee to get ear-raped when I'm working out. I don't think I'll be renewing my membership.

Wow r110, I don't know how I missed that. Of course, I'm talking about TMPL Gym at Worldwide Plaza, David Barton's new gym that was completely separate from David Barton Gyms, a company he left in 2013.

So?!

TMPL is a beautiful gym. Of course the lighting is great, which makes the bodies look fantastic. Much better than the blank, cool color temperature of the hideous fluorescent light of standard gyms.

If you're so triggered r114, stop reading it you fucking cunt. Maybe instead of reading about a gym you should get your ass IN one.
