Richard Chamberlain

He was hot as hell when he was young. Did any of you eldergays tap that back in the day? Any stories?

Dick, as he calls himself, is - or at least was - a DLer himself.

by Anonymousreply 1May 5, 2015 1:50 AM

He appeared shirtless on the cover of TV Guide when I was 12 or 13 looking very much like the pic above and I saved it to JO to for a long time. It was a much more innocent time. There was no actual porn available to a horny gay boy out in rural North Carolina back then. Just Life Magazine, the underwear section of the Sears catalog, all those Warner Bros. TV westerns with the obligatory shirtless scenes and reruns of Sea Hunt with Lloyd Bridges.

by Anonymousreply 2May 5, 2015 2:02 AM

He was gorgeous in the Thorn Birds. No wonder I wanted to go to the seminary.

by Anonymousreply 3May 5, 2015 2:11 AM

You young-uns can't believe his extraordinary popularity as Dr. Kildare in the early 1960s.

I remember every girl in my class wearing Dr. Kildare white smocks to school. Oh how I coveted one!

by Anonymousreply 4May 5, 2015 2:16 AM

Vince Edwards as Ben Casey was no slouch either, especially if you were a gay pre-teen who craved tall, dark and handsome.

by Anonymousreply 5May 5, 2015 2:17 AM

R5, you forgot to mention "hairy."

by Anonymousreply 6May 5, 2015 2:24 AM

Never in my life did I realize how hot he was until just now. Thanks op!

I have vague memories of him being cute in the Thorn Birds, but was otherwise not familiar with him or his work.

Of course I just google imaged him and look what I found! Ok, off to have a shower and rub it out now.

Dick was handsome and hairy, but for some reason, he never interested me.

Loved that scene on TTB when he was naked on the verandah with the rain pouring down outside and ol' Mary was watching him through the door.

"Kiss me on the mouth - like I was your lover!"

by Anonymousreply 9May 5, 2015 3:01 AM

TOO much facial reconstruction.

by Anonymousreply 10May 5, 2015 3:08 AM

..."A boy!?!"..."I do not wish it." "Do I look like a God-cursed sodomite?!?"..."Well Lady, my intimate customs do not include boys!"...

by Anonymousreply 11May 5, 2015 3:29 AM

All I remember about Shogun was that scene when a guy knocked him to the ground and peed on him.

Because of the Internet, I now realize that scene may have turned alot of guys on.

by Anonymousreply 12May 5, 2015 4:47 AM

R5 R6 And brooding.

by Anonymousreply 13May 5, 2015 4:51 AM

He was with Martin Rabbett forever.

by Anonymousreply 14May 5, 2015 5:51 AM

He never appeared to be so hairy in his white Dr. Kildare smock so it was quite a surprise when he wore a bathing suit in the famous double episode Tyger Tyger, Burning Bright opposite Yvette Mimieux as a dying Califrnia surfer girl.I can remember her on the cover of Life Magazine posed in an orange bikini and surf board.

They were such a popular couple on the TV screen that they were reunited in a turgid flop feature film called Joy in the Morning, based on the novel by Betty Smith, who wrote A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. Lightening didn't strike twice. As a matter of fact, Mimieux's career went nowhere after that.

by Anonymousreply 15May 5, 2015 12:07 PM

DYNASTY producers wanted him to play Linda Evan's new love interest; when he declined, they nabbed Rock Hudson for the role. They apparently were determined to have a gay man play the part.

by Anonymousreply 16May 5, 2015 2:45 PM

Chamberlain has a hot shirtless scene in Joy in the Morning

by Anonymousreply 17May 5, 2015 2:46 PM

By the looks of R8's photo he is Princess Tinymeat

by Anonymousreply 18May 5, 2015 2:48 PM

R5: Richard & Vince had a catfight at an 1960s interview & Vince threw an ice cream cone at Richard.

They never spoke again after that.

by Anonymousreply 19May 5, 2015 2:49 PM

He's very good (and hot) in The Music Lovers.

by Anonymousreply 20May 5, 2015 2:54 PM

Never dated him but met him and knew him well enough to chat in the gym (European Health Spa between Lex and 3rd) at about 58/9th St. My friend Danny ( a dancer) introduced him to his to be long term relationship- cannot remember his name- also a dancer and sort of a smaller clone of Richard. I believe they lasted until 5 or so years ago or something. Nice man, and the dancer boyfriend was a nice fellow too.

by Anonymousreply 21May 5, 2015 2:57 PM

R21 Catfight indeed. Ms. Vince had her moments.

by Anonymousreply 22May 5, 2015 2:59 PM

I remember getting all hot and bothered about seeing him on the big screen in "Joy in the Morning." He was also in "Petulia," opposite Julie Christie and George C. Scott.

by Anonymousreply 23May 5, 2015 5:42 PM

Y

by Anonymousreply 24May 5, 2015 7:12 PM

Did he get a new partner?

by Anonymousreply 25May 5, 2015 8:45 PM

Martin Rabbett was the name of the former partner - they aren't together now. I thought that Richard Chamberlain lived in Hawaii.

Is he in good health? He's about 80 now

by Anonymousreply 27May 5, 2015 11:19 PM

I wish he'd been in Follies!

by Anonymousreply 28May 5, 2015 11:36 PM

He and Tab Hunter should do a remake of "Vicious"

by Anonymousreply 29May 6, 2015 12:22 AM

r27, can't recall name of play, but he was on Broadway in the past six months.

by Anonymousreply 30May 6, 2015 12:23 AM

He was hot as Ralph de Bricassart.

by Anonymousreply 31May 6, 2015 12:47 AM

It wasn't Broadway r30, it was off off-Broadway in a revival of the David Rabe play Sticks and Bones, about a Viet Nam returning war vet. Chamberlain played the small but important role of the family priest.

by Anonymousreply 32May 6, 2015 1:05 AM

I saw him a few years back in "The Heiress" at the Pasadena Playhouse.

by Anonymousreply 33May 6, 2015 1:08 AM

He also appeared in an execrable stage version of The Exorcist (in the Max Von Sydow role) at The Geffen Playhouse in LA a few years ago.

The show got terrible reviews but Dick does seem to enjoy his stage work.

by Anonymousreply 34May 6, 2015 1:18 AM

He's a theater queen

by Anonymousreply 35May 6, 2015 1:32 AM

Girls in my class for a couple of years had Dr. Kildare lunch boxes. Somehow just looking at him, even at that young age, I knew. I remember thinking about the girls, dumb bitches.

by Anonymousreply 36May 6, 2015 2:26 AM

Chad Everett played Dr.Joe Gannon on "Medical Center" and always showed a bulge in his uniform.

by Anonymousreply 37May 6, 2015 2:42 AM

After viewing "Lady Caroline Lamb" for the first time back in '85, I couldn't help but thinking that young Prince Rogers Nelson saw hot Mr. Chamberlain in it, as well, and got some ideas...just sayin'...

Yes, we tapped it constantly. All of us. He never said no.

by Anonymousreply 39March 14, 2019 6:52 PM

Another fan of “The Music Lovers” here — bold, audacious filmmaking, and Chamberlain and Glenda Jackson were excellent!

by Anonymousreply 40March 14, 2019 6:58 PM

His movie career post Kildare, hit and miss?

by Anonymousreply 41March 14, 2019 7:11 PM

When he lived in NYC it was rumored that he would cruise MOMA I wanted to go there to see if I could meet him.

by Anonymousreply 50March 14, 2019 10:47 PM

I thought Richard was dashing as Aramis in the 70s version of The Three Musketeers. This was my favourite film version. Great cast!

by Anonymousreply 51March 14, 2019 10:55 PM

R3 Yes indeed.

by Anonymousreply 52March 14, 2019 11:27 PM

by Anonymousreply 53March 14, 2019 11:42 PM

by Anonymousreply 54March 14, 2019 11:44 PM

Don't you know if your friend has a huge dick?

by Anonymousreply 55March 15, 2019 2:55 AM

R54, did he top or bottom?

by Anonymousreply 56March 15, 2019 9:38 AM

Actor Wesley Eure was in a relationship with Chamberlain for a number of years in the 1970s.

I still remember the scene in Centennial when Chamberlain's character foolishly DIDN'T listen to what Robert Conrad's French trapper character told him to do, and ended up getting speared in the shoulder. The wound became infected, and Conrad nonchalantly laid the head of an axe in the fire. Without warning, he tore open Chamberlain's shirt, and laid that red hot axe blade on the festering wound, cauterizing it and saving his life. I was just a kid, and I almost fell out of my chair!
