I think my favorite may be this one, when (with guest stars Kathy Burke and Rowland Rivron) they spoof "Pan's People," the glamorous and slightly bizarre 70s female dancers on Britain's "Top of the Pops" . There's not a word of dialogue on it, but both French and Saunders are so incredibly committed they're hilarious.
I think I like the Joan & Jackie Collins one the best.

The best French & Saunders skit is the neurotic hostess/nibbles. The ending is the best.
"Gin and orraangge."

I'd forgotten how good that one was...all of them.
I'm trying to find a particularly good one, but don't know how to identify it.
Here it is >>>

When will they finally start on shooting the Ab Fab movie?

I found them try-hards more often than not. I mean, take a look at this SOUND OF MUSIC sketch. What is the joke? They're not really parodying the movie or making any sort of statement. It's just mugging for the camera and slapstick, juvenile humor.

R2 I agree, with Jordan and Jodie, but it cannot be found on youtube at the moment.

I loved them as the pretentious artists Muriel and Maddie--this was the skit that made me a fan forever.
"SHE CAN'T DRAW FINGERS!"

I can't find the actual skit, but this will do in a pinch:

Paul Morrissey said their Andy Warhol/Factory spoof was the most accurate depiction of the Warhol scene, that he'd ever come across.

Hands down, the spoof of Shakespeare's Sister.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | March 28, 2015 7:22 PM |
I love their parody of "Mamma Mia" with Joanna Lumley and Sienna Miller--although the funniest bit in the whole thing is Kathy Burke as the hopelessly pathetic and incompetent director ("Sing!... Sing!")
by Anonymous | reply 22 | March 28, 2015 7:37 PM |
My mistake... that was Miranda Hart who is so funny as the hopeless director Phyllida Law.And David Walliams is the choreographer.
Here's Part 2. Saunders being Meryl singing "The Winner Takes It All" and flailing her shawl around at 3:35 is pretty hilarious.

Some great clips on here...& not all obvious ones.
I'm surprised how funny they still are. Comedy gets so stale usually.

Love R6 Totally nails that late 80s comedy scene and love Jennifer's Judy Tenuta impression.
Love this Bitchy Radio Host sketch too. As mentioned in the comments, this was based on an interview Dawn had on Desert Island Discs in the UK with Sue Lawley and Sue made several references to her weight. Sue was a really bitchy interviewer in the 80s. As someone else commented, when Pauline Collins was promoting "Shirley Valentine", she insisted on making several comments about Pauline's age and weight and it got very uncomfortable.

The inspiration for that radio sketch above is here, with a couple of clips from the Pauline Collins interview. Jennifer was perfect in that sketch

That's odd. The only Dawn French Desert Island Discs that I can find, was in 2012, with Kirsty Young.

R34 sorry, thanks for that. I had read on the French and Saunders fansite Dawn did one with Sue Lawley which inspired this sketch. Must have been something passed down over the years incorrectly and the facts got a bit lost!

And Marcella Detroit was in The Last Shout movie...

Apparently the other Shakespeare Sister wasn't too happy, neither was Bjork while Joan and Jackie Collins, being good sports, loved theirs.

r35, Sue Lawley never interviewed Dawn--the skit was only based on Lawley's notoriously bitchy interview with Pauline Collins.

Can't find a clip, but their recurring characters of a female couple who travel alot and relay their stories to friends about their experiences - one talking atop the other, correcting each other, continuing the other's sentences - is just hilarious in its familiarity. Everyone knows people/couples like this in their own families.

That Warhol/Factory spoof was genius. Did anyone else think that Prof. Marian Hardstein was a take-off of Camille Paglia?

R12, I'm with you. I've never found them funny, although I've tried to watch and like them. They don't seem to be able to pull it off, whereas the SCTV folks are brilliant and scathing in their humor. I like AbFab, but F & S are not funny to me.

I cannot find it online just now. But a skit where Dawn is a girl at a boarding school who seems to be totally alone - not very funny. But Dawn French was very, very good in it.
