Remember NBC Reporter David Bloom?
David Bloom was the gorgeous NBC news reporter who died suddenly of a blood clot while reporting from the war in Kuwait in 2003.
Although Bloom was married, my friend swears up and down that they met on AOL M4M chat, Bloom came over, and they had relations...
Said Bloom's member was like a Coke can.
Did anyone else have Bloom?

"Here I am, supposedly at the peak of professional success, and I can frankly care less.”
So this guy was a brilliant journalist, with that bad grammar?!

He was gung ho for war and jumped at the chance to be "embedded" He sat for long periods cramped up on a tank and developed the clot. It wouldn't have happened sitting at a news desk asking why we were going to war with a country that was no threat.

I thought he got the clot flying to Iraq. No matter.
Yes, I remember him! He had a big future ahead of him, but life is fickle!

[quote]He was a damn good reporter
And once again, he was part of the press that thought it would be cool to go to war instead of questioning why. All the networks and news organization had their reporters all through the troops. I guess it wasn't too much fun for him.

He wasn't a great reporter. At least he never showed it on network news. HIs "planted by Cheney to keep the war PR up" tank-riding stunt not only was boring, it killed him.
But I liked his looks and his voice.

I'm really scared of developing and dying from a blood clot. What causes them? What are the symptoms? How will I know if I have one?
by Anonymous | reply 13 | August 22, 2014 5:08 AM

Specifically, he died of DVT. Deep Vein Thrombosis. Long flights are a major risk, but there are exercises you can do in your seat to minimize risk. It wasn't as publicized in 2003 as it has been since (in fact, Bloom's death helped get the word out).

If he was such a good reporter, how come he used the phrase "...and I can frankly care less"? A good journalist would know the term is CAN'T care less.

NBC News won't hire a male unless he's massively hung - Bloom, Brian Williams, Tom Brokaw, Matt Lauer ...

Wasn't it speculated upon that the massive rounds of vaccines and shots he had to take prior to embarking may have played a role in his premature demise.
What happened to the ABC anchor who sustained major head trauma?

If massive amounts of vaccines were a culprit wouldn't we have an epidemic of dead soldiers and journalists on our hands?
We don't.

R19, I guarantee you the Dept. of Defense isn't telling us all the bad news that befalls anyone in the vicinity of our military escapades. I'll wager you have no accurate figure of the percentage of soldiers and others who suffer adverse health effects from being given massive doses of vaccines in a narrow window of time.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | August 23, 2014 4:13 AM

No one is given massive doses of vaccines in a narrow time. Soldiers have to be uo-to-date on vaccines at all times, just like most Americans. Soldiers get deployed at a moments notice. Vaccines often take weeks to be fully active.
There are no special vaccines just for going to the Middle East that they (and we) haven't taken already.

No, he didn't die from the small pox vaccine--otherwise we would have seen lots of reporters dying from the small pox vaccine.

No Jenny McCarthy, he died of deep vein thrombosis, a blood clot that can form in the major veins of the legs or pelvis due to prolonged periods of physical immobility. That's why they tell you to get up and walk around when on a very long flight.

He had slept in a tank in the fetal position and while walking to the latrine upon awakening, he collapsed and died from DVT.
I found it strange that his brother mentioned in his eulogy that David was on the verge of overcoming his demons. I assumed he meant alcohol or drugs, but perhaps it was something else?

R13, I'm not a doctor but I play one on DL. The foremost known cause of DVT is fear of having it. The first symptoms of it are excessive curiosity. Now, where is our condolence troll?

by Anonymous | reply 36 | September 2, 2014 3:03 AM

R31, he was well-known as a sex addict; almost all female interns were hit on by him. More than a few accepted. He was hot!
Therefore stories of him with a man make sense and fall in line with a typical sex addict's behavior.
