No, Captain D's tastes better than LJS. When I was a kid, it was Cap'n D's. I don't understand.

I love me some LJS chicken planks with plenty of malt vinegar. Their fish---no.

Their fried clams are good, but the fish is nasty. We had some coupon so we go the half fish/half chicken a while back. We got in a fight over which pieces were the chicken and which were the fish.

When I was in high school, Long John Silvers was the absolute bottom of the barrel place to work. Poor bastards would reek of grease and fish all day, and whenever someone rang that fucking bell they would have to scream "thank you" while they were shoveling fried fish into paper dishes. Only the most hardcore stoners would work there.

Facts

Their fish may suck, but those extra little crinkly bits are manna from heaven. And they're the only American fried fish place that knows it's important to have malt vinegar at the table.

We had a good LJS about a decade ago when it was brand new, but after a year the food got greasier, and they started not only charging you for the crispies but ripping off the crispy bits on your food, so you'd have bare areas on the fish or chicken, then demand you pay to get your own food back.

Stopped going there but they made the news a year or so later when their whole restaurant was flooded with sewage.

Crunchies! My brother and I loved LJS when we were kids and it was all about the “crunchies” as we called them.

Haven’t been there since I was a teen. Damn.

Long John Silver's was the only job I was fired from. We were instructed in the frying technique to dip the fish and your hand in the batter, then dip the fish AND YOUR HAND into 300 degree oil, and oh-so-gently release. I kept dropping the fish 2-3 inches above the oil, which blows the batter off. And that was that.

There's something special in the batter that protects the skin - we were told if we got an oil burn to put batter on it.

So, no. I don't eat that stuff.

LJS is where I learned to pour a proper pint.

That’s the only good thing I can say about them.
