An unfortunate trend with no end in sight!
When will the skinny pants/jeans trend end?
by Anonymous | reply 422 | June 21, 2020 6:26 PM |
Not soon enough.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | July 31, 2014 5:01 AM |
Amen!
I can't stand seeing these beautiful New York City MEN walking around in painted on high-water jeans and no socks. Disgusting.
And a new thing I'm seeing -- guys in SHORT SHORTS. Daisy Duke type shorts.
Really?
by Anonymous | reply 2 | July 31, 2014 5:03 AM |
I'd much rather be looking at a guy in tight jeans than one whose shape is completely lost in those oversized baggy monstrosities people used to wear. My ass looks good in tight jeans.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | July 31, 2014 5:11 AM |
there's a difference between tight jeans and skinny legs jeans/pants. They make all men look like waddling penguins.

by Anonymous | reply 6 | July 31, 2014 5:24 AM |
Not soon enough. While they come in a variety to fit every shape and size, most people have no business wearing them.

Too many unshapely men and women wear skinny jeans. Very few people look good in skinny jeans.

I love them! But there should be weight restrictions as to who is allowed to wear them.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | July 31, 2014 7:15 AM |
Skinny jeans helped reinforce the superiority of the fitted. tapered jean, which isn't as skin tight as the skinny jean but looks a helluva lot better than the jeans that most American men wear, especially when they wear running shoes or tennis shoes with them.
And white socks. That shit is ugly.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | July 31, 2014 7:38 AM |
Unlike the 70's when they were skin tight and you could see everything, they enhanced the male body shwing off a nice ass and meaty thighs.
Skinny Jeans are very tight down at the bottom and they make mens legs look like toothpicks and body very femmy.
I miss the tight asses with white stitching.

Yes...tight around the ass would be fine...but that weird saggy around the ass, but tight on the legs looks terrible and unsexy.
Well fitting pants and tight around the ass are coming back big time here in London...especially with suits.
I enjoy going out at lunchtime!

by Anonymous | reply 25 | July 31, 2014 3:21 PM |

When the millennials can afford to by new stuff.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | July 31, 2014 4:39 PM |
The most flattering cut on many men (men with fit bodies, that is) would be straight-cut, form-fitting from the waist through the crotch (and ass, of course) and thighs, with a slight boot-cut flare at the ends. This style was ubiquitous in the 70s, but often too high a waistline. A few modifications, and they'd look perfect now.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | July 31, 2014 9:47 PM |
They are just great. Elegant and rock 'n roll at the same time. But they have to be worn as part of a silhouette by guys- the shoulder line should be wide, and the upper body dressed in something boxy, that reaches below the hip, like a boxy jacket.
They make (slim) guys look too girlish if they team them with a tight tee or a tucked in shirt. That shit needs to end right now.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | July 31, 2014 10:11 PM |
In the past, people were willing to change their look dramatically form era to era - think of the difference between how people dressed in the 30's, and the 60's.
Now, people decide they like an item or a look and they damn well keep wearing it, and the designers and retailers have to cater to that. People are all over the internet picking up images from different eras and movies etc and they put together a look that they feel suits them. Designers don't really dictate fashion anymore.
So, skinny jeans are going nowhere, people have decided they like wearing them and that's that. They are a wardrobe staple now, like a pullover or a white tee.

Well certain things are past fad. Saggy pants are just as popular now as they were in 1995, which is 20 years going now. This is no longer a fad.
We used to have trends lasting a few years. Five years was a long time. Now trends go on decades and maybe forever.

[quote]We used to have trends lasting a few years. Five years was a long time. Now trends go on decades and maybe forever.
Things do change but much more slowly.
For example a couple of years ago, women wearing black reached its peak. Casual, formal, all black. Now color is appearing much more and that sort of flesh color is more popular.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | August 4, 2014 9:20 PM |
All for fitted, shorter shorts.
Skinny jeans--meh.

R29 Well, THOSE are horrid, but not all are.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | August 4, 2014 10:18 PM |
It happened when the cost of cotton started to rise. Buy time the price had almost doubled jeans/pants were as skinny as possible. It was mostly practical, the designers could sell item for same price but use less material.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | August 4, 2014 10:30 PM |
R41, his hotness has zip -- unzip? -- to do with the fabric that covers him below the waist. I must go now and find a pic in which he's peeled it off.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | August 6, 2014 6:44 PM |
Darn. Couldn't find a pantsless shot of the hotness in R41. Here are some other shirtless guys in jeans, though:
by Anonymous | reply 43 | August 6, 2014 6:48 PM |
Looking at men's asses in tight jeans is one of the things I miss most about the 1980s.
Boys, pull your damn pants up. Even Obama said so.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | August 6, 2014 7:00 PM |
R41, why is it hotter when the musculature of the legs is totally hidden? How does that enhance his appeal? That mindset makes zero sense to me.
The super-skinny jeans are heinous. Levi's 511s are wonderful. Slimmer than 514s, not skin-tight like 510s. They are absolutely the most flattering cut. I'm so glad I discovered them. I'll wear them as long as I can maintain my physique.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | August 6, 2014 7:00 PM |

The majority of men don't have great legs/butt. Wearing clothes that tries to show off boring assets make it even more cringeworthy

No, I don't like the painted on jeans, they look awful on most people and guys look ridiculous in them.

That denimblog is just embarrassing.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | January 23, 2016 6:04 PM |
What's worse is the trend toward "floods" often in combination with the skinny pant profile. Draws too much attention away from the ass and looks really low rent esp. when someone is wearing a suit--makes them look like their clothes are borrowed in a bad way.

Ha, R47, when I saw this thread pop up, I immediately thought of that picture. It is of Zach Vinci, one of the Vinci twins. He and his brother, Wyatt, LOVE jeans and pants that look they are spray-painted on. Here's another one of Zach. They must have quite a wardrobe of super-tight pants.

What's with the suits with short jackets and skinny slacks? I saw a bit of Colbert last night and he doesn't have the body for it. It looked like his suit had shrunk or they ran out of material.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | January 23, 2016 9:11 PM |
Though, R58, a well tailored fitted suit on a guy with a great build is very sexy. But, not everyone has the body to carry that off.

by Anonymous | reply 60 | January 23, 2016 10:30 PM |
Skinny jeans are different than tapered fits. I'm pretty fit, I'm about 165 and a little over 5' 10, my ass is a bit bubbly, and my calfs are muscular. Very few skinny fits look good on my frame. they hang down so my ass crack shows and they are too tight around my calf. Seems like they are meant for tall and lean guys. Before the trend I used to love the girls boot cut lower rise. I'm a bit of a clothes horse and if I've learned anything it's to try on everything before you buy in order to not be a victim of fashion.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | January 23, 2016 10:51 PM |

R30 is right on the money. I love them on the right body type. Another plus, is that you get to see if there's a package worth investigating, underneath the zipper. Skinny jeans don't lie.

by Anonymous | reply 75 | October 16, 2017 1:34 PM |
R75 there are unfashionable herd-like individuals everywhere who take forever to get up to speed. Fashion crowd in London and NYC and Paris do not wear 'skinny jeans' anymore.

by Anonymous | reply 77 | October 16, 2017 1:38 PM |
R76, I'm aware of the 90s making a big comeback, but I still don't see the skinny jeans leaving en mass, even among the fashionable crowd. I follow many of them on IG. There seems to be a blend of both. It's not like tight jeans weren't around in the 90's. As usual, urban streetwear started revisiting the 90's years ago and the others copied, which is why I never consider them at the forefront of anything.

While not needing super tight pants (which really should only be worn by younger men with the right silhouettes), older mean look(ed) horrible in baggy pants with pleats. God help us if pleats return. A plain flat front, with clean lines through the legs. I'd hate for baggy to return.

Ageing college professor. Many college boys look great in any style. The skinny jeans show off their fine form. High water length shows off young ankle hair. There must be an age, over which, one doesn't complain about what young people wear, rather enjoys the youthful peacock display of it all.

High waters have been around over 10 years, since Thom Browne popularised them again in 2005. Duh. In fact, when I worked on Wall Street in the mid 80's, post-Ivy boys wore cuffed high water suits, especially in the summer. It was a classic prep look but pretty niche and you didn't see it Midtown.

I'm thin and young enough to wear them but they are uncomfortable AF and you're always having to adjust your junk and your boxers and then pull the pants back down over your calves every time you stand up.
The super tight ones are mostly low end brands at this point though--most others are less baggy than 90s jeans but don't look like leggings.

Slim cut/skinny is fine if legs are left long, draping over the ankle. Slim cut at "high water" length, or higher up on the calf, won't age well. In ten years it will look like those big shoulders of 1990.

CAGE MATCH: Skinny Jeans Troll vs Gorgeous Gay Men Troll.
Only One Comes Out Alive.
by Anonymous | reply 228 | July 26, 2019 12:07 AM |
High waisted jeans are said to make a comeback, I remember them from the 70s.
by Anonymous | reply 229 | July 26, 2019 12:25 AM |
All trends come to an end eventually. This one has gone on longer than I would have liked.
I thought that mens' shorts going past the knee would NEVER end. That lasted from the mid-90s to like just a few years ago. But now, mens' thighs have been liberated and shorter shorts for men are trendy again. Not as short as they were in the 80s, but I'll take it.
by Anonymous | reply 230 | July 26, 2019 12:43 AM |
Men in rural areas and the South never embraced shorter shorts.
by Anonymous | reply 231 | July 26, 2019 12:58 AM |
Not true, [R231]. Shorts past the knee didn't exist until Michael Jordan made them popular in the 90s.
The past-the-knee shorts still exist, true, but they are no longer *fashionable*. For a while they were the only game in town. There are now indeed heterosexual men with thighs out, including in the south.

by Anonymous | reply 250 | July 28, 2019 3:02 PM |
Will the next trend be Yoga pants or leggings? How I love a trouser leg with just enough of a flare, or boot-cut or wide leg denim does not seem to matter to the fashion gods. These men look ridiculous... even the butch straight ones appear tres gay! Some blokes even look as if they suffer rickets!
by Anonymous | reply 251 | July 28, 2019 3:42 PM |
The shredded skinny jeans screams euro-trash and Americans emulating it is worse.
by Anonymous | reply 253 | July 28, 2019 5:14 PM |
R256 Agreed. Your pic is rather more of a tapered straight leg which is "fitted". The skinny moniker in my mind looks more like an out of proportion caricature, and resembles women's wear IMHO.

R282 Spot on, hence my rickets comment. I suppose some have bowed or bandy legs which make the cut all the more distressing. Some that are nearly skin tight are the worst choice for these sort of legs. I think if one were riding (a horse) with riding boots, many would look better or perfectly acceptable, like jodhpurs. Otherwise, some most unfortunate looking calves in these pics. I'm just not a fan of leggings or yoga pants either for similar reasons. They look to be hot and uncomfortable as well. At least some have a longer rise for the, ugh, em, "équipage".

R299 R303 Please stop with the get to the gym crap, and muscle bro just wanna show some leg. This isn't a fit vs fat issue. As other posters have pointed out, many overfed blokes do seem to squeeze into them. Many fit gents (I hit the gym and have muscles) still don't want to be caught dead in them. It's a taste and style issue, and they are not age appropriate for me (50s). I know I wouldn't even wear them if I were younger. Just because something is trendy, doesn't make it attractive, or in good taste. Many of us, gay or straight wish to dress age-appropriate, and we eschew trendy styles as a rule.

Fashion Tip:
1. When wearing colourful patterns (floral in this case) make sure to mix it with a solids or neutrals; DO NOT mix with other patterns
2. لما تلبس نمط معين وألوانه قوية (مثل الورد بالصورة هاي) البس معه ألوان بسيطة وجامدة؛ لا تلبس معه نمط مختلف

R415 - those aren't skinny jeans - they're just tight jeans. Skinny jeans are tightly fitted all the way down to the ankle. He was a great ass though!
Anyway - they're on the way out now. We are starting to see baggy/straight jeans that show no body shape at all coming into fashion again. Should be perfect for the majority of fatties and ancients at DL to wear.
