French pop recommendations

What's some good summery French pop?

by Anonymousreply 120January 21, 2021 5:07 PM

From any era. Doesn't necessarily have to be in French.

There's no such thing as good French pop

by Anonymousreply 2July 6, 2014 1:53 PM

The French like Anglo and American "pop" meaning the usual r&b, house type genres.

Of their own recent francophone music try the following tracks and go from there on last.fm or deezer:

La lumière, Camille

Que n'ai-je, Keren Ann (Lady and Bird album)

and try these duets:

Confettis, Benjamin Biolay avec Julia Stone

Profite , Biolay and Vanessa Paradis

Try the raspberry soda

by Anonymousreply 4July 6, 2014 1:55 PM

Patricia Kaas, love her.

by Anonymousreply 5July 6, 2014 1:56 PM

Any of those Francoise Hardy albums, particularly from the 60s, when she was THE Ye-Ye Girl. Her later work is good too, and Malcolm McLaren did a good album on Paris, with help from Catherine Deneuve, Hardy, Juliette Greco etc. My CD has an extra disk of chillout mixes.

by Anonymousreply 6July 6, 2014 1:56 PM

LESCOP. You'll like it, OP. It's total mellow pop.

Go for some of the Ye Ye Girls. It was a period in French pop music after the war, economic deprivation, and rebuilding. The French just wanted some fun. So there was a time when it was all about the Ye Ye girls. Pretty young things who did pop.

Here's Jocelyne she was one of the more long lasting Ye Ye Girls. They didn't have a long shelf life.

Jacqueline Taieb 7 Heure du Matin. The French version of My Generation. A HUGE hit. She was also a popular Ye Ye Girl.

French rap or French ballad is better, but if you're going to listen to pop, listen to kpop. It's really popular here where I am and gays are addicted to it here. At first it will be wierd but you'll get use to it. I recommend 2ne1's song I am missing you or Sexy, free, and single by Super Junior.

by Anonymousreply 14July 6, 2014 2:10 PM

Yéyé is horrible but here is one funny track from that era:

7 heures du matin, Jacqueline Taïeb

by Anonymousreply 15July 6, 2014 2:12 PM

And Pink Martini is an American group who does A LOT in French. This is my favorite they do. Their French is nearly perfect. They're from Oregon and have actually won awards in France. Sympathique is their best.

I LOVE Francoise Hardy and one of my all time fave French bands, Les Rita Mitsouko. "Marcia Baila" is one of their best songs. Unfortunately, IIRC, the husband in this duo died of cancer a few years ago.

"Marcia Baila", reminds me of my club 'daze' going to Danceteria and all the other great clubs during that era. Good Times!
