Did you know that Pamela Bellwood and Dirk Benedict were the replacement cast in Butterflies are Free on Broadway?

Pamela replaced Gwyheth's mother.

by Anonymousreply 25May 21, 2018 1:01 AM

Lol no shit. Pamela always wanted to show tits

by Anonymousreply 1April 6, 2014 9:34 AM

Sounds like a production that I could get involved in.

by Anonymousreply 2April 6, 2014 11:15 AM

Meredith Baxter and Karen Grassle would both play the role as well.

by Anonymousreply 3April 6, 2014 11:19 AM

Pamela Bellwood was the second-worst actress on Dynasty (Kathleen Beller was #1 by a wide margin), which is saying something. Can't imagine sitting through two hours of her straining to portray a "free spirit." Yikes.

by Anonymousreply 4April 6, 2014 2:52 PM

I'd rather replace Romulus's mother than Gwyneth's.

Was Gloria Swanson playing the Eileen Heckart part?

Mildred Natwick was

You could have seen this dreck, or you could have seen Lauren Bacall in "Applause."

Or--this would have been my choice--you could have bought a ticket to see "Coco."

by Anonymousreply 8April 6, 2014 5:57 PM

Did she show her "liars candles?"

by Anonymousreply 9April 6, 2014 6:02 PM

Yup. Knew that. And for R1. No topless scene for the girl although there is a scene in her underwear. Keir Dullea , who I did see ,was shirtless. And Bellwood showed 'em in Playboy. Swanson did replace Eileen Heckhart.

[quote]Kathleen Beller was #1 by a wide margin

Yes, but I had HUGE jugs!

by Anonymousreply 11April 6, 2014 6:08 PM

R8 I saw all three. March 1970 on a college theatre trip. Plus PURLIE And PRIVATE LIVES.

by Anonymousreply 12April 6, 2014 6:09 PM

R12 did you know Suzi Rogers co-starred with Kate in CoCo?

She is now top-billed on Days of our Lives

Starring

Suzanne Rogers

as

Maggie Horton

by Anonymousreply 13April 6, 2014 6:12 PM

Yes and Ann Reinking was a replacement, I think but she may not have been in it when I saw it.

by Anonymousreply 14April 6, 2014 6:15 PM

Kcguy, I'm actually impressed AND jealous. Which did you enjoy the most? The least? Who was in that version of Private Lives?

by Anonymousreply 15April 6, 2014 6:37 PM

R4 Don't forget Emma Samms and Catherine Oxenberg.

No mam, Ali MacGraw (Lady Ashley Mitchell) was the absolute worst thing to ever hit Dynasty. I hated Pamela Bellwood but Ali MacGraw was far worst. I didn't pay enough attention to Kathleen Beller to remember if she was good or bad.

by Anonymousreply 17April 6, 2014 7:54 PM

How was Gloria Swanson? Did she have huge gestures?

by Anonymousreply 18April 7, 2014 2:45 AM

(Pamela enters, sighs, flips on the light switch, and leans against the door jamb dramatically.)

Dirk: That doesn't work on me, you idiot. I'm blind.

by Anonymousreply 21April 7, 2014 3:18 AM

Weren't they all thesbians in the 70s and 80s

by Anonymousreply 22April 7, 2014 3:45 AM

R15. At the time I wasn't all that familiar with Hepburn. Remember, this was long before TCM and to be honest, the TV station late movies in Springfield, Mo were all crap. I remember thinking that the finale was stunning to watch and I really enjoyed seeing David Holiday who was our Lancelot in a local production of CAMELOT the previous year. I caught the final preview of APPLAUSE and loved every minute of it. Being on a Sunday, there were quite a few performers there. James Coco and Marcia Rodd were sitting behind me. I thought Bacall was fabulous . I had not seen ALL ABOUT EVE at that time so the story was new to me. Saw it again that summer when the entire company shut down for a week and brought the show to the St. Louis Muny. Yes, they did that with several high profile Broadway shows back then. Saw APPLAUSE a third time on the next year's college trip with Anne Baxter. PURLIE was Melba Moore from start to finish. I remember not being all that taken with the show. PRIVATE LIVES was fun . Those trips were great. A week in NYC over spring break..Accomodations at the Hotel Piccadilly and as drinking age was 18, we spent a lot of time in that hotel bar. The same bar where Michael Caine watched the reviews of his play in DEATHTRAP. Saw a lot of great shows on those trips. IRENE, EQUUS, NIGHT WATCH, A CHORUS LINE with the original cast, DEATHTRAP, J.C. SUPERSTAR, FOLLIES. the entire cost was $500.00 plus 75.00 dollars more if you wanted a single room and not share. Now back to thread topics.

by Anonymousreply 23April 7, 2014 1:37 PM

and Gloria Swanson was playing the mother.

by Anonymousreply 24May 21, 2018 12:41 AM
