Growing up what images did you wank over?
Me, any picture in a history book of ancient Greeks in the nude.
I had no way of knowing this at the time, but the guy who illustrated some of the Look and Learn magazine ,I pounded over, again ancient Greece was gay and has since illustrated a lot of Gay Porn.
I also was infatuated with Aquaman and Mark Goddard from Lost in Space.
Who did you lust after growing up?

There was a 70s book called "Man Watching" but it wasn't about MEN but Human kind and behavioral science etc... well in the center of the book was a whole set of pictures... at the very center fo the book were the pictures of a naked man and a naked woman facing each other. It was not a complete profile but an angled one... so you saw the nude bodies. That was the first image I remember wanking to and cumming.

There was a picture of model David White in nothing but his skivvies that I ripped out of one of my mom's catalogues (either Sears or Montgomery Ward), and kept under my mattress. My dad's porn stack. There was one magazine with a hot guy dressed as a sheik and some blond bimbo who presumably was part of his harem. The guy had a really big fat cock, and it was what I used to jack off for the very first time. I learned from one of dad's Penthouse Forum magazines that something other than piss could come out of one's cock. All I knew is that it would come out when one's dick was hard and that you were supposed to stroke it. When cum came out of me for the first time, I was shocked as shit. It felt like I was peeing, but it wasn't pee. And I was a shooter from the very first time, so it sure felt and looked like pee had gone flying all over the bathroom, but it was definitely not pee. Good times.

My older brother kept a stash of Playboy and Penthouse magazines under his bed, and both magazines would put out fantasy sex scenes with women and men together, so those were one way. My parents signed off on an 'adult' library card for me (for my education, of course) and I repeatedly took out the same 'art book' on Andy Warhol for it's photos of Joe Dallesandro (still the sexiest man I've ever seen). And International Male, of course (especially with Bill Cable). The first Playgirl magazine I bought featured a sex scene with Bill Cable and Cassandra Peterson (Elvira).

Lots of what has been posted resonates with me.
There were Tiger Beat mags around, my sister and our friends had them. I liked Parker Stevenson a whole lot. Sears catalogs. Somehow I was getting the International Male catalog delivered at my parents' house at 17(!) probably because I had a subscription to GQ then--it was very homoerotic in the mid 80s.
Shamefully I remember thinking about shoplifting Playgirl from the bookstore in the mall but what I ended up doing was buying like four magazines together, including Playgirl, and hoping the cashier would let me. There is a same-sex fertility ritual among the Tarahumara Indians of Mexico where the 18 year olds are brought out, half dressed as women, and the ones dressed as women publicly fellate the others in front of the whole tribe and then spit the semen on the ground in order to encourage the crops to grow. There was a photo of one of these rituals in an otherwise generic travel photo book of Mexico where you could see the penis being serviced and I used to return to that book over and over and over and so it used to flop open to that page, so I cracked the binding on another page to hide what I was doing.

Like others, the numerous men's exercise magazines. As for images, I remember an ad in the late 80s/early 90s that showed rows of men in speedos lying face down on chaises longues with one guy on his back in the middle of the group.
Mike Piazza was the stuff of many jerk off sessions. Baseball players wore much tighter uniforms then, and his butt drove me wild. Same with Troy Aikman and other football players.
Penthouse Forum often had "letters" from "readers," who had gay encounters. It provided great reading inspiration.
There were exercise shows on public television in the mornings. One featured a model from the International Male catalogue. As it was the late 80s/early 90s, the models were often in lycra.

But the 40/50+ age range is what makes threads like this interesting. There's very little porn here because porn was not ubiquitous when we were growing up.
There is more innocence (of a sort) and imagination at work here.
That said, most of my adolescent wanking was done imagining various men from real life. I jerked off very occasionally to photos and very occasionally to television, but more often it was men who I had seen and heard and shared physical space with. That somehow seems hotter than porn because the fantasy is much closer.

Waaay back in the day, maybe 1982 or so, my aunt decided my mother needed an "awakening" or something, so she sent her a stack of books from Doubleday book club. Most of them were your typical pop-culture feminism. And one was "Making Love:: How to be Your Own Sex Therapist" by Patrica E. Raley. My mother never looked at any of them, and just shoved them on a bookshelf in the rec room.
I stole it as soon as she did. It was the most fascinating book I had ever seen. Tons of pictures...straight, gay, lesbian. I jerked off to it a lot, but I also read it at least ten times, cover to cover. It fascinated me. I think I have a pretty healthy attitude toward sex now, and its probably because of that book.

On the weekends, to give my Mom a break from a couple of rambunctious boys, my father used to take me and my brother to a grindhouse where you could watch all the B and C movies you'd ever want to see for a single admission or to the drive-in where they'd have dusk-to-dawn marathons, rewarding you for staying all night with a box of doughnuts as you left. When people ask me now why I don't keep up with the latest movies, I try to explain, "You have no idea how many thousands of bad movies I've watched." So lots of karate movies, badly dubbed European horror films, blaxploitation movies, and those specific made for drive-in sort of movies. So the first male actors I saw nude were Richard Roundtree and Fred Williamson. Tom Skerritt in 'Big Bad Mama' with Angie Dickinson. Some anonymous blonde stud seduced by Claudia Jennings in 'The Great Texas Dynamite Chase'. And most of those movies I ended up seeing several times, so my teenage mind desperately tried to memorize every frame of those scenes the second and third time I saw those films.

Like many of the posts above, International Male catalog was my main wanking material until I turned 18 and could buy gay porn magazines without fear.
But I clearly remember the time my 1st gay friend and I found a trove of Playboy and Penthouse magazines in the trash. we were maybe 14, we went through Playboy and tossed them all out because they had no dick. But Penthouse occasionally did have a semi-naked guy and also the forum was fun to read. we didn't understand a lot of the stuff we were reading but what we liked it anyway so we would jerked off together.
Also, we discovered at the local Walden's bookstore the magazine, "After Dark" ostensibility an "entertainment" periodical. However, it never failed to show gorgeous actor, models, and/or dancers semi to fully nude men. And so it being an "entertainment" magazine, I wasn't too embarrassed for my teen self to purchase it.

Every now and then, National Geographic would have pictures of naked natives and you'd sometimes get to see ass and cock.

You've reminded me of 'Oui' which was mostly female nudes. My brother had a few around and they always had a'One For The Ladies' photo.
& some couples.

On very rare occasions, Life magazine would feature male nudity. I'd live for those issues.

When I was a freshman in high school in 1980 taking French I received a stack of French magazines for Christmas. Included was an issue of Paris Match with an article on the then-new American phenomenon of male strippers including a full page bare ass photo a guy doing his thing. There was also a great underwear ad in that issue of a dad casually lounging in his briefs around his family. Other than that it was recalling guys I'd seen in the locker room at school or scenes from HBO movies I'd caught late at night after my parents were in bed such as The Odd Angry Shot a 1979 Australian movie about Vietnam with a gratuitous full frontal scene of hot suntanned soldiers in the showers.

R139-R141 looks like Vanna White's late fiancé John Gibson who acted, posed in PLAYGIRL and was a Chippendale. He died in a 1986 plane crash.

That magazine photo shoot with actor Christopher George...I thought I'd died and went to heaven.
Does anyone remember that nude layout with 3 generations...a son, father and grandfather! Didn't care much for the son and grandfather, but the father was hot.

As an 80's/90's kid, the internet was still not as common as it is now (in fact, I didn't really see porn until maybe my 9th or 10th grade year). I'd read up on what movies featured male nudity and rent them at my local mom and pop video store. I lived for Sam Elliot in The Legacy, Bruce Willis in Color of Night, Joe Dallesandro in anything, Rob Lowe in Bad Influence, Don Johnson in The Harrad Experiment, etc. You'd always have to pause at just the right moment on the VCR. Good times.

Harrison Ford as Han Solo. Especially images from the scenes in "The Empire Strikes Back" where they have him in bondage being tortured and when they freeze him in carbonite. Still colors my kinks to this day. Also, certain images of Superman, where he looked particularly beefy. (NOT Christopher Reeve!)

Like many of you I resorted to "emancipating" Playgirl magazines form Waldenbooks, B.Daltons and local grocery stores throughout my early adolescence. My biggest haul was at some second hand store that had stacks of old Playgirls and Playboys behind the counter. I waited until the owner left the building to help a customer and managed to stuff around 30-40 mags down my pants and inside my coat before running out the back door. Exhilarating! The only time I almost got caught was trying to sneak out with the issue with the photo of the guy I've included. When I took one look at him there was NO WAY it wasn't coming home with me and no suspicious, bitchy checker was gonna stop me!
Now....what to do with all this purloined porn?
Right now, (unless they've been discovered over the past 23 years) under the attic floorboards and hidden basement recesses of my childhood home are enough back issues of Playgirl to fill the bed of my truck!
There may still even be some torn out centerfolds placed between the pages of dusty old back issues of American Quilter magazine stored at the Monmouth,OR public library.

Colton Haynes XY photos. I was in Boarders Books and found randomly found the magazine. They didn't have cameras in the back so I took it into the bathroom and tore out Colton's spread. I used to jerk off to those photos and almost cry afterwards because they were so beautiful and I didn't know if I could ever come out and be happy that happy. I was in middle school when I stole those pictures, I still have them!

I remember when the 84 Olympics were in Los Angeles I would cut pics out of the paper. Most of them were the swimmers and divers in their speedos. And Life magazine had one shot of Steve Lundquist in a blue speedo that fueled many fantasies.

When I was in my early teens, the drugstore near where I lived had a big magazine display area, with multiple shelves displaying the standard stuff - Good Housekeeping, People, etc. The dirty magazines like Playboy and Penthouse were kept in a rack right by the cashier. Every once and while, though, one of the dirty magazines would find its way to the big display shelves. One day while I was browsing the shelves, I found a Playgirl magazine hidden inside an issue of Sports Illustrated.
The magazine featured this guy - David Peters - and I thought I had died and gone to heaven. I carefully stuffed that issue under my shirt and walked out of the store, scared to death I'd get caught and be exposed as a thief AND a homosexual, but I was willing to risk it for the beauty of this guy. David Peters kept me happy many a lonely teenage night.

Of course the Sunday department store ads, Jim's Jockey ads, and International Male. At some point I discovered Club magazine which features more couples. There was also Touch which was mostly text, but so hot!
One of my best memories was a couple - he was very hairy and she was covering him with shaving cream. So hot - what I wouldn't give to see that spread again.
