Some of my cousins were heroin junkies, and some of them died from it. When Anthony Keidis' book Scar Tissue came out, I read it hoping to understand.

He was praised (by "Dr. Drew Pinsky" ugh) for being really honest about his hard drug habit in that book, but I don't think he was. I remember sensing that he was skipping over important details, but offering up gritty details as a sort of misdirection. Several things were really off about his "honest" story.

Maybe Keidis is on methadone or something, but I would not be surprised if he's still using.

While I agree with you that she probably doesn't use heroin (anymore -she definitely used to be addicted to it) and probably does use stimulants, you don't know what symptoms she does or doesn't have. Did you read what the symptoms at your link were? no one, except people in her household would know if she had any of these. You see her in tabloid pictures. You can't determine any of these symptoms from pictures

It's not hard to spot an abuser or pain pills or heroin - their pupils are very tiny when they're using. Even with all of the flashbulbs I don't recall seeing such a celebrity photo.

That's why I don't think heroin use is as popular among celebrities as they would have us think. Prescription speed like Adderall is.

Mary Tyler Moore for the last 10-15 years seems like she's on something. Could be her deteriorating health but I've wondered if some of that isn't pill related. Also, Michael J. Fox looks pretty hard and worn out similar to an addict. I know two adult who were diagnosed with parkinson's at an early age but the didn't look like someone had kicked them in the face while they were holding a brown bag with some hooch in it. John Goodman also comes off like an addict and whoopie seems like she's high 24/7

Not a celebrity, but one of my colleagues. I'm more and more sure of it. Sometimes he acts very nervous and other various things, and I'm thinking now these might be the times when he is strung out, if I understand what that means. Sadly, the moments whe he is most pleasant and at ease might be those when he is under the influence.

He's a very flawed guy, with some very good about about him.

When I saw Ethan Hawke in Before 2 (forget the title), it became apparent he was a drug user. Especially when you see him next to Julie Delpy, who seems much healthier, it's just all over his face, his eyes, his teeth even. All about his demeanour says he is a drug user. I'm sorry for him. He has not aged well, except in those photos from that magazine (maybe W?) where he was pumped up. Some time around 2004 maybe.

R52 Parkinson disease has a different impact on different people. MJF has had symptoms since he was 26 yrs old. He's probably is on a cocktail of prescription drugs to keep him alive and/or functioning. Those drugs can have serious side effects so it not surprising he looks like shit. I doubt his body could handle a heroin addiction as well.

Macauley Caulkin on the other hand is in deep. He looks like the son of my neighbour in the weeks before he died. He's a rich guy who can afford his own place but moves in with the worlds most notorious junkie and expects everyone to believe he's clean.

Eva Mendes. Kirsten Dunst. (not really a secret but) Josh Hartnett. And probably any Nickolodeon/Disney/former tween star/pop tart/boy bander. I still think RDJ is - he just knows to hide it better now, and now that his movies do so well, people really look the other way. And Joaquin Phoenix, which nearly wipes out the 2005 best actor nominees.

Michael Fassbender is a huge drunk, wouldn't be surprised if he used other drugs/pills and could turn into a full blown basket case in a few years.

Jonathan Rhys Meyers nearly killed himself with his heroin use about 4 years ago.

Nigella Lawson is a regular coke and weed user though she's doing a major PR offensive to play that down since it came out in the recent fraud trial of her former PAs.

There were photos of Michelle Rodriguez and her girlfriend Cara Delevigne at a Knicks game last week, Michelle's eyes are rolling into the back of her head and they're making out openly. At one point Cara seems to be concerned Michelle is about to pass out. Their relationship will end with one or both it rehab or worse.

As for Johnny Depp, I've heard that over the years he's done it all. During his wildest period, when he used to date Kate Moss, there was enough hard stuff around to make Keith Richards fly without wings.

Colin Farrell is clean. He is fighting hard to stay that way. When I read about Hoffman relapsing after 20+ years, it makes me afraid for people like Colin. It reminds me of the struggle every day.

There is a lot of recreational cocaine use in H'wood, and certainly prescription drugs. Almost everyone smokes pot. But I don't think they consider it in the same category as Cocaine.

I remember after Ledger died, it was a wake up call for some. I remember that Eva Mendez checked herself into rehab. I think Kristen Dunst is clean now, but she was in really bad shape for a long time. Garrett Hedland had problems too, and now they're together.

We're talking a lot about people who it's pretty public knowledge, but there are a some mentioned that are a surprise. I agree about Gerard Butler. I think he is definitely off the wagon. He had a huge drug and alcohol problem and he has definitely fallen off the wagon.

You have to wonder about the predators who circle. I just read that Hoffman was seen on Saturday evening at an ATM, withdrawing a lot of money while two men stood by him. The resident who saw them said he looked really bad, sweating, disheveled, and the guys looked shady. NYCPD are trying to track how he bought the drugs.

I remember reading about John Belushi and was shocked when I read that Robert De Niro and Robin Williams hung out and did drugs with him before he died. De Niro is not a drug user now, of course. But he'd probably be more tolerant and "understanding" of young guys who like to party that way, and he is close to Bradley and especially Leo.

Here are some signs of heroin addiction that make it hard for me to believe Angelina Jolie is a junkie:

injection wounds, track marks, needle marks - numerous photos of her wearing sleeveless dresses and open-toed shoes

infections on the skin from injections, boils - see above

small, constricted pupils - looked at recent pics of her and her pupils appear normal

appearance of “distant” gazing eyes (some say heroin steals the soul) - nope

lack of motivation - in addition to having 5 kids and being a well-traveled humanitarian, she's spent the past several years directing, acting, and screenwriting

placing distance from friends and family members or hanging out with a new group of people - she's not close to her father...wonder if she's still close to her brother though (her father took him to this year's Golden Globes)

communication flaws, difficulty speaking, slurring speech - very eloquent

lack of memory, forgetting things or not remembering important events or matters - have never heard horror stories about her ability to remember lines/show up on time/behave on set

lack of interest in the future or what comes next - her double mastectomy shows she thinks about the future

unkempt self-image, lack of hygiene or taking care of one’s self - she always looks pretty put-together in candid shots...although the not eating thing is kind of strange

Overall, I think it's plausible that Angelina was a heroin addict in the past, but there's been nothing to show she's been using in the past ten years or so.

r107, it's rare but it is possible to be a long-term functioning heroin addict. Look at William S. Burroughs. Angela has the money and connections to get legally manufactured opiates and not rely on street drugs. She could even have a nurse on staff to give her injections (clean needles + skill = no track marks.)

A guy I work with started taking prescription adderal, he dropped 30 pounds quickly and has very little appetite.

Plenty of smackheads get by on nasal habits. Artie Lange strictly had a nasal habit.

This is a very old thread but Demi Moore is a major addict. For decades from the late 80s up until she divorced Ashton, she was sober but then she relapsed on drugs and still uses them. In the 1980s she was so into coke that she would show up on set of St. Elmo's fire and use coke on set, and they told her to get her ass into rehab or she would be fired.

Kate Hudson is a drunk and despite in an interview claiming that she has never used hard drugs, loves cocaine and used a lot of it when she was with that junkie/cokehead Chris Robinson. I would not be surprised if she also used heroin or prescription opiates.
