She's had a lot of work for a long time. Even though she's talented she's not massive box office draw so you gotta figure if she was all kinds of bitch trouble they would have found somebody else who might have done almost as good with far less suffering for those involved.

She was accused of being aloof and cold in the early days and some criticized all the accents so she reinvented herself with comedies and experimented in her relative wilderness period of the early 90s.

But people were confusing her with her characters, IRL she's really nice and warm. How humble and down to earth she can really be is another matter, but she is very proud of her work. She loves and admires other actors though of course and once joked "even I think I'm overrated". Conventional wisdom has it thus anyway.

The M and G characters are "hilarious" and endearing parody posters that bear no relation to reality. Don't know if it's always the same person.

She's honest enough to admit the only role she ever went after was Patsy Cline in Sweet Dreams and admits that she couldn't have done it as well as Jessica Lange who got the part. Married to the same guy for decades. Kids aren't in the tabloids. And she's an amazing talent.

Filmed a lot of One True Thing in my town many years ago and everyone had nice things to say about her. Went out of her way to be warm and friendly to extras and locals. Had a few scenes with her and she was a lovely.

Both her costars were cold and aloof and nasty.

Her job is to play pretend, to be nice in interviews and be nice to people in the industry she could work for or with. No different to any other industry, just more public. Actually, one of big appeals is her ability to get Oscar nominations almost annually. Directors know that if they cast her, their film is likely to get some Oscar consideration or award-season buzz whether it’s warranted or not.

I feel the standard of Hollywood acting is now so low that Meryl Streep is hailed as some kind of magician who can achieve any acting feat. The truth is, she’s a good, experienced actor who is professional and understands her craft. Streep’s level of acting should be present with every Hollywood star who is headlining pictures.
