MTV is airing a marathon of The Real World: Los Angeles from 1992

Never saw this before. It feels like looking inside a time capsule.

So much flannel. Some dude is giving a confessional in a suit jacket and tie with demin overalls for the pants.

Oh and Young Eric Nies is pretty dreamy.

New York

by Anonymousreply 1March 23, 2013 6:32 AM

This is NY, Op, not LA. But thanks for the heads up. Man, I forgot all about these housemates, but it all comes back. Julie loves dressing like a slut and then blaming it on the card she drew or whatever. She had a nice body but a butterface. I love the rapper chick. Kevin is a dick. Norman tries to be weird too much. I wish it were LA, I love when Tami gets her abortion. Klassy Classic MTV.

by Anonymousreply 2March 23, 2013 6:36 AM

They are going to show a marathon of the first New York, only San Franciso, and first Las Vegas seasons this weekend.

by Anonymousreply 3March 23, 2013 6:39 AM

why couldn't any camera shot be at a normal angle?

by Anonymousreply 4March 23, 2013 6:42 AM

God the sound is awful but I like it. I haven't watched RW since Seattle and the slap heard round the world. I like it less polished like these old ones. This made reality tv take off. Thanks a lot, MTV.

by Anonymousreply 5March 23, 2013 6:49 AM

Poor Eric Nies. He experienced numb hands, and after numerous tests, his doctor diagnosed that his biceps and triceps were pressuring his arteries and told him to stop working out too much.

by Anonymousreply 6March 23, 2013 7:13 AM

God Julie dressed like a dork, even for the 90's..That joke they played on Kevin was so stupid, how is it funny to convince someone who barely knows you anyhow, that you are actually someone else? It's not. Neither is pranking people.

by Anonymousreply 7March 23, 2013 7:20 AM

And Becky on the sofa giving her solution for change in the world, "It doesn't matter who we vote for, we've already gotten ourselves into deep shit..I don't really think there's much we can do, except, I don't know, try and do what we can do, it's obvious it's the melting pot, I mean, whoever founded it, founded it.."

MTV: Raising the bar since 1992

by Anonymousreply 8March 23, 2013 7:39 AM

I think its pretty cool they are doing the #RetroMTV.

I hope they air Chicago. I think that's the first one I saw.

by Anonymousreply 9March 23, 2013 7:51 AM

Yeah it is r9. It was so much better then, without all the manipulations by the cameras, and intrusive audio, and contrived situations. I never saw Chicago, I stopped after season 5 I think.

by Anonymousreply 10March 23, 2013 8:03 AM

Bunim-Murray and MTV would get their stuff together and release some of the seasons on DVD. Yes, I realize the biggest holdup is music rights, but I wouldn't mind if they did they same thing they did when they released "The State" on DVD, just dub in some generic music.

My favorite season was London. I know a lot of people bitch about it being boring, but I liked it because they had an interesting group of people, and they didn't get into fights and destroy stuff. They seemed like they would be more fun to hang out with.

by Anonymousreply 11March 23, 2013 9:18 AM

I was around 12 when the show premiered on some music channel that played cool music all the time. The idea of living with strangers and having to deal with their shit seemed so terrifying and yet so very exiting to me.

by Anonymousreply 12March 23, 2013 9:30 AM

I didn't know it was some copyright hold up r11, I just assumed MTV didn't want to expend any money for release of shows that aren't relevant to people now like the teen moms. I think I watched a bit of London but got bored, for the reasons you mentioned. I wanted high drama like LA and San Fran.

Kevin's spoken word act was hilarious. Arsenio Hall is the biggest thing in years or is going to be? Oh, Kevin..That was right when Arsenio started to fade. And dumb Eric being the voice of reason to Norman about Julie and Kevin's fight. And why was Norman deemed the judge and jury of who started it, etc? It's still better than the swill on MTV now.

by Anonymousreply 13March 23, 2013 9:33 AM
It's still better than the swill on MTV now.

Get that bitch!

by Anonymousreply 14March 23, 2013 10:09 AM

God they look so young. I know that they are young but man..it is a world of difference from the haggard, put away wet people that are on now. I'm looking at you, Jerseyites and teen moms..The teen moms look at least 5 years older than any of these people.

Lol r14, sorry, I meant reality crap now on MTV. I have never seen Teen wolf, but I have seen Teen Mom..yikes.

by Anonymousreply 15March 23, 2013 10:21 AM

R11, I liked London too for the reasons you mention. I don't think we are typical of the RW audience.

I enjoyed the friendship between Heather and Julie in NY. I know at the first reunion they did (it was probably about 4 years later) they were still friends; I wonder if they are still today?

by Anonymousreply 16March 23, 2013 11:05 AM

Can you get the phone?!?!?

by Anonymousreply 17March 23, 2013 11:28 AM

Because it wasn't not funny!

by Anonymousreply 18March 23, 2013 11:30 AM

The best line on there was LA when Beth S and David got into it and he was saying what a bitch she was and then he says, apropos of nothing, "And that's why you have those big ass, ugly ass pimples on your face, cause you deserve them!" It was bizarre.

by Anonymousreply 19March 23, 2013 11:37 AM

Becky always reminded me of Suzanne Vega.

by Anonymousreply 20March 23, 2013 11:41 AM

I was in the Bed Bath and Beyond on 6th Avenue in Chelsea and saw a still-gorgeous Eric Nies shopping for bedding with two clearly gay men. Maybe he was just their friend?

by Anonymousreply 21March 23, 2013 12:01 PM

The older seasons are so different. A lot of the cast members had issues and MTV let them be exposed completely, especially on the Hawaii and Seattle seasons. Now they just fuel the kids with liquor and exotic locations and little self discovery is made.

my favorite cast

They're supposed to be airing the 1994 San Francisco season on Sunday. I wish I could watch that season, but I only have basic cable now.

by Anonymousreply 23March 23, 2013 12:58 PM

BECAUSE IT WASN'T NOT FUNNY!

THAT'S RAPE!

by Anonymousreply 24March 23, 2013 1:00 PM
My favorite season was London. I know a lot of people bitch about it being boring, but I liked it because they had an interesting group of people, and they didn't get into fights and destroy stuff. They seemed like they would be more fun to hang out with.

I liked London too, but it did have one of the more violent RW moments, when punker Neil (IMO the hottest of all of the RW cast members) was performing on stage and then tongue kissed a heckler, who then proceeded to take a bite out of Neil's tongue.

I've always had a facination with the series since the beginning, and some of my favorite TV moments come from the various RW seasons . . .

"It wasn't not funny" from CA

Julie's mother visiting NYC from down south, and Norman sarcastically telling her to bring a condom when she & Julie go out sightseeing.

The Pedro/Judd vs Puck confrontation from SF.

The Seattle Slap

The Flora/Dan confrontations from Miami

Genesis hanging out with drag queens in Boston (and Montana giving a kid from the school alcohol)

DADT era Danny dating the marine whose face couldn't be shown in New Orleans

A drunken Ruthie in Hawaii (and whiny Amaya constantly calling for "Colllllllinnnnn")

Ace in Paris eating only at McDonalds and complaining that no one there speaks "American"

Cutter Frankie from San Diego I

Gay porn Dustin from Vegas II

Emotionally fucked-up Dan from San Diego II (perhaps my favorite season)

And who was the guy who said his penis was so huge, it's the 8th member of the cast?

by Anonymousreply 25March 23, 2013 1:32 PM

The first Las Vegas was the beginning of the end for Real World in terms of what it set out to do.

by Anonymousreply 26March 23, 2013 1:34 PM

Dan vs Melissa 1996

by Anonymousreply 27March 23, 2013 2:13 PM

R11 Agreed. London is by far the best season. Coolest people and by and large they got along with one another. I see that Aussie Jacinda has become an actress. She was in the recent flop,Zero Hour....

That original NYC inaugural season...remember when Julie came down to eat with the other cast members and dressed up like a high class escort? What that signaling that she was down to fuck with Eric? Or was she boning some other guy? As a gay guy, I was so fascinated by her drawl, her rack and her potential fall from innocence into pure slutdom!

by Anonymousreply 28March 23, 2013 2:29 PM

R25 The irony about Ace was that his mother was French or of French descent!

Danny from the NO Real World was such a post twink hottie. There was something cute about him.

Davis from Denver was the hottest guy on the show. God was he beautiful.I would have sucked, blown, teabagged, rimmed and swallowed that one for days on end.He also had an in the closet military guy .

by Anonymousreply 29March 23, 2013 2:37 PM

I also agree that London was a good season. It is strange looking back on it how the Americans were so in deference to the wisdom and vibe of the Euro cast members as if they looked up to them like elder statesman. BTW, is the trust fund race car driver guy still racing mini formula 1 cars today? I am also convinced that playwright Jay was gay or at least closet gay. The show never really went there, but I always sensed that.

For me the most memorable moments from the whole MTV series remains that piece of work Ballu from Road Rules Europe and her "Your going in the water" fight with Antoine who she desperately wanted to sleep with in the absence of her black boyfriend from the Netherlands.

by Anonymousreply 30March 23, 2013 2:46 PM

I loved the Vegas season, which was the trashiest season ever. Kind of appropriate since it was Vegas. I also loved New Orleans and London and Seattle. I also liked Hawaii and Miami.

I stopped watching after Vegas, but I did watch the Cancun season because of that hot blond guy.

by Anonymousreply 31March 23, 2013 2:51 PM

R30 That black guy Steve was nothing to look at, a real fug. When Belou first saw Antoine, you could tell she wanted him.She acted that way women act when they get wet and try to feign disinterest in a guy.

R31 Who Joey? That guy was a trip. He got(fucked) that lesbian/bi girl, Ayiia, who acted she she hated his guts, she secretly sweated him in the end no matter what she said. His edginess made her wet. After Ayiia fucked two of the girl's in the cast you would never have thought that Joey would have screwed her. However the pussy wants what the pussy wants.....

by Anonymousreply 32March 23, 2013 3:05 PM

"I haven't watched RW since Seattle and the slap heard round the world"

Speaking of the Seattle season...did Stephen ever come out of the closet? Didn't he get arrested for prostitution a few years back?

by Anonymousreply 33March 23, 2013 3:51 PM

Is this the one with gay Norm stalking some talk show host at a rally?

by Anonymousreply 34March 23, 2013 3:56 PM

I had such a crush on Kevin Powell during that first year of Real World. Smart and sexy.

He's gotten even finer as he's grown up. He's a well respected writer in the black community.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 35March 23, 2013 3:59 PM

Yes, r33, Stephen publicly came out of the closet in 2008 during a Real World special of some sort on MTV. At the time, he said he was engaged to his partner, don't know what happened with that.

Stephen also claimed that he had apologized to Irene for hitting her. But fellow Seattle cast member Nathan said he was still friends with Irene, and that Stephen never actually did apologize.

by Anonymousreply 36March 23, 2013 4:00 PM

In terms of pure Real World male hotness, after god knows how many seasons I still think it's hard to top Eric Nies. For a while he had a sort of bearded hippie look going that was equally sexy to his original RW look. Would be interested to see a pic from the last year or two.

by Anonymousreply 37March 23, 2013 4:02 PM

The weirdest season was Hawaii. The gay guy and the weird girl plotted to bring the other cast mates down. Somehow the other cast mates found out about it and the gay guy left the show mid-season. It was all so strange.

by Anonymousreply 38March 23, 2013 4:23 PM

I LOVED Chris { far left } from RR Europe!

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 39March 23, 2013 4:27 PM

My favorite was Boston. Genesis was weird and cool. Montana was a crazy bitch. Sean and Jason were really cute.

Seattle came next and that season was BORING once Irene left, but she was fabulously crazy. I loved Stephen slapping her followed by her laughing like the crazy bitch she was. She blamed all of her crazy on Lyme disease.

by Anonymousreply 40March 23, 2013 4:42 PM

In the early days it really seemed to be about something. Now it's just about the hook-up. Sad.

by Anonymousreply 41March 23, 2013 4:46 PM

R40 Genesis was a complete airhead. Montana was a brainless slut.Sean was Mr Conservative rethug Nice Guy and Jason was a wannabe! I hate that one.

R38 Yeah the gay guy(was his name Justin) left for some lame concocted Hollywood reason...his aunt was sick! He was weak anyway.

R34 Norm was fucking Charles Perez. Norm seems like a nice guy but CP was way out of his league. Maybe norm's third leg was his way into CP's heart.

by Anonymousreply 42March 23, 2013 4:53 PM
I am also convinced that playwright Jay was gay or at least closet gay. The show never really went there, but I always sensed that.

Yeah, Jay came out of the closet a couple of years later. (IIRC, when he was filming in London, he did have a GF back home who came out to visit him.)
Davis from Denver was the hottest guy on the show. God was he beautiful.I would have sucked, blown, teabagged, rimmed and swallowed that one for days on end.He also had an in the closet military guy .

Physically he was a good looking guy, but he was so messed up psychologically as a result of his Christian upbringing colliding with his being gay. I think it was exasperated by his rooming with the even more Christian Stephen - the straight black guy who looked kinda hot in his tight blue underwear - whose acceptance Davis clearly craved. And then there was that fight with Tyrie.

by Anonymousreply 43March 23, 2013 5:23 PM

Davis was the absolute epitome of twink. Good looking on paper but in the blandest way possible. No thanks. I think Danny from New Orleans remains the best looking gay guy on the show ever.

Whoever remembered Chris from Road Rules Europe, good call. There was something intense about his sexiness, like he could make you cum just by touching your hand.

Most of you probably know that Sean from Boston is now a GOP congressman from Wisconsin. And he is married to Rachel from San Francisco. They have like five kids I think.

Justin from Hawaii really seemed like a rotten person. That weird scheming with Kyra(?) seemed like it was inspired by the movie "Cruel Intentions." I remember in his last scene before he left because of his "sick aunt," the soundtrack music was the Hole song "Awful." Very fitting.

Colin from that season was another hottie. I remember a couple years after his season he had a blog where he did lots of blatant teasing about his sexuality, talking about he and his buddies sucking each others' boners. But it had a weird performance art quality that made me think it was some kind of attention-seeking put-on.

by Anonymousreply 44March 23, 2013 5:35 PM

MTV Jams is being played again, with never-before-seen performances!

by Anonymousreply 45March 23, 2013 5:37 PM

"In terms of pure Real World male hotness, after god knows how many seasons I still think it's hard to top Eric Nies"

Chris from the Chicago season was hot as hell, too

by Anonymousreply 46March 23, 2013 5:38 PM

Which season had Bunifa?

by Anonymousreply 47March 23, 2013 5:40 PM

I am glad someone mentioned Justin from Hawaii. History and public opinion has not been kind to him, but he was my favorite cast member from that season. He was the most level-headed and cynical member of the cast, but compared to the truly vapid and lovesick Amaya & Colin and the out of control drunk Ruthie his personality served as sane balance to the season. Justin did team up with Kaia to wreck the Colin/Amaya romance while on their group vacation. His scheming earned him the wrath of his fellow cast mates when they discovered his plot and combined with the news of a dying relative, the producers edited the show to make it seem like bad karma for being so manipulative. Yet the moments when he talked about his aunt, really humanized him and I saw him as possessing a much kinder side from what was shown throughout the season.

Justin has been by far the smartest RR cast member in the history of the show and there is no doubt that he was a master manipulator. He successfully lobbied the entire cast to choose his vacation destination of India for their group vacation as well as breaking up a teen romance in the process. It is fitting that after the show aired he went on to become a corporate lawyer in NYC. And even though he is the most hated gay in the show's history, ironically he has probably been the most successful career wise talking on cases for gay families and lobbying for gay rights in the courts.

I also liked that he choose to move on post RR and not to do the countless reunion show (like Aaron for LA season 1) rather than dwelling on their time in the spotlight like the uber popular Danny Roberts who milked the college speaking circuit for almost a decade after his season ended.

by Anonymousreply 48March 23, 2013 5:44 PM

did the uncensored pics of eric rescuing that dog on the frozen lake ever turn up? This was a couple of years ago, and Eric happened upon a dog (while a cameraman was nearby) and stripped down to resue the dog. Not a publicity stunt at all!

by Anonymousreply 49March 23, 2013 5:45 PM

WHET Ruthie?

by Anonymousreply 50March 23, 2013 5:47 PM

God, I remember how Norm was coy with his sexuality for half the season and then when he finally came out he claimed he was bi.

Of course thus was a decade before Will & Grace or Queer As Folk.

by Anonymousreply 51March 23, 2013 5:59 PM

I had a huge crush on Brad from RR San Diego, he only got more muscly when he started doing challenges. Here is getting arrested with Robin on the show it 2004.

Was gay Chris on the Boston or Chicago show? I seem to remember that he was a bartender in Boston. He was gorgeous. Remember when he brought a guy home and had sex in the shower? I remember the hot "straight" guy trying to peek in.

Chris was selling his artwork online after the show, and I think he even dated a famous guy for awhile.

by Anonymousreply 53March 23, 2013 6:04 PM

I think the Hawaii cast was the most strange season too. Here is Justin and Kaia arguing with Tech

Besides the same 10 losers who do the challenges every year, I'm surprised MTV has never done a "where are they now" with all these cast members who no one hears from anymore.

by Anonymousreply 56March 23, 2013 6:17 PM

God, how can you remember all of them?

by Anonymousreply 57March 23, 2013 6:29 PM

So am I crazy then or did they have footage of pretty black chick, I want to say Tami, from LA post abortion? I remember thinking it was a ballsy move to show her cramping on the couch, etc. I think they made a big deal later on a where are they now thing that she is now married and had a child.

by Anonymousreply 58March 23, 2013 6:33 PM

I wanna see Yes from Semester at Sea!

by Anonymousreply 59March 23, 2013 6:41 PM

So was TRW: Las Vegas the season that was filmed during 9/11?

by Anonymousreply 60March 23, 2013 6:45 PM

All of these blow ups on the RR seasons seem pretty subdued compared to the Challenges. Thats where the the real drama was at!

by Anonymousreply 61March 23, 2013 6:45 PM

r60 Chicago was being filmed during 9/11, Aneesa's birthday was the same day and they let the cast watch the news

by Anonymousreply 62March 23, 2013 6:54 PM

I saw Tammy doing some kind of weight loss commercial. Not one of the major retailers.

by Anonymousreply 63March 23, 2013 7:02 PM

Tami has been on Basketball Wives on VH1 for a couple of seasons, being a bigger bitch that she ever was on the TRW. Now she is acting all reformed like she never was a cunt, be we know your true colors Tami!

R25

Goes to show that they're fucking up reality tv now. There's no need to manipulate shit, life can be completely dramatic all on its on.

by Anonymousreply 65March 23, 2013 7:18 PM

*Life can be dramatic enough on its on and the early seasons of The Real World shows that producers can just let the cameras roll without manipulating what's going on.

by Anonymousreply 66March 23, 2013 7:19 PM

Oh my r64, she doesn't look good. I remember her being really pretty on her season. I think that bb player must be the guy she married to then conceive with and not have an abortion. That whole David episode was so ridiculous and I felt bad for him. Beth was a big instigator if memory serves.

by Anonymousreply 67March 23, 2013 7:19 PM

I was flipping channels earlier and they were showing the first episode of LV 1.

I still remember Frank and Trashelle, drunk at night by the pool. Frank sort of slipped and said how he hoped he'd find the right girl or guy who'd love him.

by Anonymousreply 68March 23, 2013 7:44 PM

Loved Trishelle. I was so jealous that she was getting Steven, who has aged very well.

by Anonymousreply 69March 23, 2013 7:47 PM

Hottest guy ever was Abe from Road Rules: Latin America. I think he had just turned 18 when the show started and clashed alot with the cast but he found a chihuahua in Mexico that he adopted.

Abe's the one in the green shirt.

by Anonymousreply 75March 23, 2013 8:06 PM

I loved Sharon. Poor Sharon. Wasn't Abe the one with the really big dick?

by Anonymousreply 76March 23, 2013 8:08 PM

Tami is the all-time nuttiest Real World cast member, primarily because she was on camera before the culture of reality tv had metastasized and so was not playing by a rulebook to get camera time. She was just being herself. Let us remember:

- Tami got out of a physical activity by informing everyone she was pregnant

- Tami then got an abortion. The cameras followed her to the clinic. She called it "her surgery."

- Tami got her JAW WIRED SHUT to lose weight.

- Tami got David kicked out of the house for "sexual harassment"

- Tami coined the line that will live in infamy: "IT WASNT NOT FUNNY."

I must be forgetting something.

by Anonymousreply 77March 23, 2013 8:09 PM

Who was the one that was on with Tami that was the big instigator.

She did some Road Rules Challenge shows and stuff later on where people thought she was mentally unbalanced.

Speaking of which, I will never forget that girl who replaced Puck who went on one of the challenge shows and just flipped the fuck out on the first day. Jo was her name, I think. Went batshit and had to leave.

by Anonymousreply 78March 23, 2013 8:13 PM

But r77 don't forget that when she pulled the sexual assault thing on David, she went into it laughing and joking with him..I can see how he thought it was ok to play along. Beth the follower also thought it was funny until it wasn't not funny anymore..I forgot about Tami's diet. I was thinking the jaw thing was abortion related somehow. Sigh, Tami was the best. And the doofy John..and bitchy Irene.

by Anonymousreply 79March 23, 2013 8:14 PM

r78 Zitty Beth was the girl. She got reamed by David, it was funny. I forgot all about Jo! wasn't she Australian or something? God Puck was fucking gross. Shudder.

by Anonymousreply 80March 23, 2013 8:15 PM

R46 Question in regards to Eric Nies. I remember in the inaugural season they identified him as a male model in his bio on the show and after Real World aired, he went on to host "The Grind" and a variety of other MTV ventures and workout videos. What exactly was the extent of his pre-Real World modeling career? Was he doing runway work for the big fashion houses like Prada, Gucci or was his whole modeling career just a manufactured back-story on the part of the producers to cravenly exploit the beefcake factor in the show's premiere season. I don't remember the show following him to modeling gigs.

by Anonymousreply 81March 23, 2013 8:18 PM

David got so screwed in that entire thing. The producers should have intervened and not sent him home.

by Anonymousreply 82March 23, 2013 8:19 PM

Surfing past my least favorite season (Vegas). Irulan was really very pretty, though.

Is there any central location online with updates?

by Anonymousreply 83March 23, 2013 8:24 PM

He really did r82. I felt bad for him, he was a total pariah after that. I think it was the whole NY fights with Kevin and Julie (who totally worked shit out on their own) and the producers felt like they would be liable I guess, if shit went wrong.

by Anonymousreply 84March 23, 2013 8:24 PM

Remember gay Dan from Miami? I thought he was weird. The only thing I remember about the Miami season is Dan and his latino boyfriend, and him climbing into the bathroom to hear a straight couple having sex.

by Anonymousreply 85March 23, 2013 9:13 PM

I didn't really watch Miami but wasn't that the infamous toothbrush in the toilet season, where the camera man had a moral obligation to break the observer's rule and warn someone about something? I guess the teen moms who leave babies on ledges and beat up boyfriends are free to do so, but don't clean a toilet with a toothbrush, shit will get real.

by Anonymousreply 86March 23, 2013 9:18 PM

"That whole David episode was so ridiculous and I felt bad for him. Beth was a big instigator if memory serves."

You felt bad for a creep? Why? Wow, it's sad how much dataloungers hate women and feel the need to defend sexist straight men (most of whom hate gays).

by Anonymousreply 87March 23, 2013 9:20 PM

David was a creep. It wasn't just that one incident that ousted him... an episode or two earlier he had tried to physically assault the country singer.

by Anonymousreply 88March 23, 2013 9:22 PM

I could be wrong r87 but I remembered it with David and Tami laughing and joking around, Beth coming in and joking with them, and I thought both Beth and David were pulling on her comforter, with Tami still laughing, and then Tami flipped out about him pulling on it and Beth acted indignant too on Tami's behalf. The whole thing was pretty quick and a long time ago but I thought that's how it went down. David was a creep but that whole thing was crazy with mixed signals from Tami. It was long ago, though, so maybe I am wrong.

Steven from the Las Vegas season was a bartender in an Austin gay bar before he joined the show. Nobody could figure out what his deal was. I think he's one of those guys who uses both men and women to get what he wants.

by Anonymousreply 90March 23, 2013 9:31 PM
Chris was selling his artwork online after the show, and I think he even dated a famous guy for awhile.

Yeah, he dated Falcon porn stars. I think he was going to be one too.

by Anonymousreply 91March 23, 2013 9:32 PM

Eric Nies had the smallest dick. I remember when he brought out his portfolio of nude modeling pics to show Julie. Julie was like "Okay....."

by Anonymousreply 92March 23, 2013 9:33 PM

What exactly was Justin's plan to wreck havoc on his roommates and break up Colin and Amaya?

by Anonymousreply 93March 23, 2013 9:34 PM
did the uncensored pics of eric rescuing that dog on the frozen lake ever turn up? This was a couple of years ago, and Eric happened upon a dog (while a cameraman was nearby) and stripped down to resue the dog. Not a publicity stunt at all!

He stripped down full nude??

by Anonymousreply 94March 23, 2013 9:35 PM

That one guy in Hawaii annoyed the fuck out of me. I forget his name, it wasn't Colin, but the other white guy.

He would cry at the drop of a hat. He fell in love with Ruthie's twin (who always wore an annoying 3rd eye) and had a huge cryfest trying to get Ruthie into rehab.

Funniest RW moment ever:

Oh my god r95, I forgot all about Linsday. An annoying redhead named Lindsay is such a rare treat when it comes along. That was her oscar clip for sure. Did you read any of the comments? Here's one:

" I remember this, I adored Lindsay, this was so heart breaking. I met Janet years ago when cast members were touring, she was extremely friendly."

Um, she's a reality show chick, not Madonna, why shouldn't she be friendly? Also, who cares that you met some chick from the RW?

R85 Weird ugly Dan actually was spying on a threesome going on. He stupidly thought he going into a tent with his Cuban boyfriend would be shocking BUT the threesome turned out to be more shocking. That Cuban slut Melissa called him a flamer and meanwhile she's fooling around with a girl she doesn't know(she just met her that night) and her roommate ,Mike in a bathroom....... how classy.

Dan also dated a Jewish guy who was a lawyer. I think his name was Arnie. The relationship seemed to be going nowhere. His new Cuban flame Johnny was better looking but he was boring as well.

by Anonymousreply 101March 23, 2013 9:54 PM

Stephen from Seattle, David from Miami, Karamo from Philadelphia, and JD from Brooklyn season were all really cunty gays that were hard to get along with.

The 2000 New Orleans cast was probably the most entertaining, and adorable Dan made it even better. The had a really balanced cast.

Who was the really horrible black woman from Return to New York? It wasn't Coral.

by Anonymousreply 104March 23, 2013 10:04 PM

Yes and Coral turned out to be a big ole lez!Mike became a wrestler as he always wanted. The whole race card thing from the bi-racial card was so annoying.Return to NYC wasn't that bad but it wasn't that great either.

by Anonymousreply 105March 23, 2013 10:09 PM

Return to NY stands out for me, R105, because of that horrible woman (NOT CORAL). I had never seen such nasty bitch on television before that (of course, I had yet to see Big Brother).

by Anonymousreply 106March 23, 2013 10:12 PM

Belou from RR was one of my favorites, too. Her curse "I hope you never get a child, I hope that for your ass!" was hilarious. I went around for months saying, "I hope that for my ass" when I really wanted something.

Hey, I was young and impressionable.

I loved Coral and Flora, too. Two funny, selfish, crazy bitches with granny names. I hope they married and live out their days together, yelling at kids to get off their lawn.

by Anonymousreply 107March 23, 2013 10:18 PM

r104, Coral was one of the most awesome cast members ever. She constantly brought the drama. I dont think she was out as a lesbian until she started doing challenges.

Wow! Those first "Real Worlds" are my favorite ones. The newer ones pale in comparison. Back then, they were so raw and not at all as glossy and "set up" as the newer ones. Too bad they're not showing "1992 LA", because that was one of my favorite seasons.

by Anonymousreply 109March 23, 2013 10:27 PM

R106 Remember when she berated the bi-racial guy for dating outside of his race?! Wait a minute both of their mothers were white, without dating out of their race they wouldn't have been here! As Paul Mooney coined the term for a new generation,"oh the tragic mulatto."

by Anonymousreply 110March 23, 2013 10:36 PM

You guys are talking about Nicole. That whole argument they had was completely stupid. She was just mad at him because he didnt want her. I guess they look back on this stuff and think how young and dumb they were. I think Coral Nicole and Malik were all biracial. I wonder what happened to Nicole, she never returned to do anything for MTV after their season ended in 2001.
[R60] Chicago was being filmed during 9/11, Aneesa's birthday was the same day and they let the cast watch the news.

MTV was particular prescient with Chicago. It was the first REAL WORLD show filmed in the summer/fall then airing early the following year rather than winter/spring and then airing in the summer. As you stated, Aneesa's birthday just happened to be on 9/11 and I recall a lot of buildup to that date. Also, the freakiest thing to me was that one of the bedrooms was designed with airplane models crashing into the wall. The cast members quickly took them down after that.

by Anonymousreply 112March 23, 2013 10:48 PM

Oh shit, I completely forgot about Belou. That bitch was certifable. Remember when she tried to throw herself out of a castle window? ha.

by Anonymousreply 113March 23, 2013 10:52 PM

R111, I remember Nicole briefly dated some preppy black guy but dropped him when he admitted he'd voted for Bush. She was like, "You can't be black and vote Republican," so I gotta give her props for that.

by Anonymousreply 114March 23, 2013 10:53 PM

Nicole delivered the most hilarious and REAL moment ever...

"I'm glad I got Real World. I can't be on Road Rules. I only own stiletto heels!"

by Anonymousreply 115March 23, 2013 10:58 PM

Thanks for the Nicole video, R111. She doesn't seem nearly as bitchy as she did when I watched the marathon. She actually made sense all throughout that video.

by Anonymousreply 117March 24, 2013 12:06 AM

Now Las Vegas is on. This in my opinion is when the show jumped the shark. I'd like to see earlier seasons when everything wasn't about hooking up and getting trashed.

by Anonymousreply 118March 24, 2013 12:10 AM

Vegas was the one the was so fixed. Like the girl that faked her attraction to Steven. I wonder if the producers planned that behind the scenes? It wasn't or wouldn't be the first time that they actually re-directed them to do a scene again.......and it won't be the last.

by Anonymousreply 119March 24, 2013 12:18 AM

by Anonymousreply 121March 24, 2013 12:20 AM

Vegas was the season I finally realized I was too old for this shit. Trashelle was really too stupid to live.

by Anonymousreply 122March 24, 2013 12:23 AM

R121

I remember Antoine was sort of a psycho as well... but if I remember correctly, he was kind of hot.

by Anonymousreply 123March 24, 2013 12:24 AM

Las Vegas Steven was definitely a sociopath. He was genuinely frightening when he was angry, and the famed 'charm' was equally unnerving.

I stopped watching around 2006... After leaving college, I just stopped caring about the show. Were there any cute gays after that year?

by Anonymousreply 124March 24, 2013 12:24 AM

{quote] For me the most memorable moments from the whole MTV series remains that piece of work Ballu from Road Rules Europe and her "Your going in the water" fight with Antoine who she desperately wanted to sleep with in the absence of her black boyfriend from the Netherlands.
Besides the same 10 losers who do the challenges every year, I'm surprised MTV has never done a "where are they now" with all these cast members who no one hears from anymore.

I seem to recall that MTV made a couple such where are they now shows that profiled what Danny Roberts got up to post Real World New Orleans in regards to his relationship with the closeted military officer. I also remember a big 10 year anniversary reunion show where everyone from the first 10 seasons except Aaron from Real World season 2 LA and of course Pedro who was deceased) was in attendance, but it was more of a retrospective on your time on the show thing rather than what the cast members were doing today. It would take many hours and multiple episodes to profile all of the people who have been on the series in the 26 plus seasons the show has been on, and even then they would probably only profile the 'memorable' cast members. MTV is too cheap to bring all of those people together in one place and just scheduling it would be hard. I also suspect many cast members would rather forget their time on tv and have history forget them as well for the sake of their careers.

by Anonymousreply 127March 24, 2013 12:50 AM

R127

Was that the Reunion Special where they tried to pull a coup and not start filming until they got paid more?

by Anonymousreply 128March 24, 2013 12:53 AM

Hey, didn't Coral say that Abram was gay? Coral has now revealed herself to be a lez, and she and Abram 'dated' for a while.

by Anonymousreply 129March 24, 2013 12:54 AM
I also remember a big 10 year anniversary reunion show where everyone from the first 10 seasons except Aaron from Real World season 2 LA and of course Pedro who was deceased) was in attendance

I remember that. It was in 2002. Also not in attendance was Matt Simon from REAL WORLD: HAWAII, the one who fell in love with Ruthie's twin. In fact, he never returned after that. He only did that season and that was it.

I also remember the self-proclaimed virgins fathered 'round, including Elka from REAL WORLD: BOSTON and Jon from REAL WORLD: LA. They were still proud to be virgins.

by Anonymousreply 130March 24, 2013 1:06 AM

R128 I don't know about the details with the reunion show (I never heard about the supposed pay dispute you mention). I do remember reading from a thread that posted the contract associated with becoming a real world contestant that they only get $800 or so for doing the post wrap up reunion episode after their season ends. MTV is really cheap in regards to its 'talent' and considering that these people end up looking like fools on camera, it is hardly worth it in the long run. Those drunk hookups have a way of living on forever on the internet. Not really the best advertising for someone applying for a corporate or gov. job later in life.

by Anonymousreply 131March 24, 2013 1:07 AM

Steven from Seattle definitely had issues, but I couldn't stand that plump bitch who deliberately went out of her way to taunt him by saying he was gay, as if there was something wrong with it.

Same thing with that guy who dated Anderson Cooper. Another one who had issues yet was in a house with a total homophobe.

by Anonymousreply 132March 24, 2013 1:07 AM

I think Abram is only semi-closeted at this point. Pretty stuck on himself but if I had a cock like his, you would be too.

Watching Las Vegas...if Frank isn't gay, he missed his calling.

by Anonymousreply 133March 24, 2013 1:11 AM

r131 That was why he slapped Irene? I forgot all about the reason, I thought it was like a slow buildup. That was another odd thing like the Tami/David/Beth thing where the reaction didn't come right away. I kind of remember her laughing about it and jumping in the car and it seemed like no big deal and then the scene was remixed and shown repeatedly.

by Anonymousreply 134March 24, 2013 1:14 AM

R131

I'm pretty sure that was the Reunion special and when it aired, they aired the behind the stage footage of the casts signing some sort of petition and trying to refuse to start the filming.

If I remember correctly, they were forced to because they had already signed contracts and MTV was threatening them with a lawsuit.

by Anonymousreply 135March 24, 2013 1:16 AM

Agreed, R133! I remember watching that season when it originally came out, and thinking that the big mid-season reveal would be Frank coming out of the closet.

Any other bi guys from other Real World or Road Rules seasons?

by Anonymousreply 136March 24, 2013 1:19 AM

R134 She used to taunt him by saying he was gay. The other roommates all knew he had issues concerning his sexuality (and I'm sure they figured he was closeted at that time) and knew not to go there with him. But she deliberately would go there because she knew it would get him angry.

He should have never slapped her, though. Should have just called her a cunt and left it at that. I have no use for people who bully others over being gay.

by Anonymousreply 137March 24, 2013 1:21 AM

Beth from LA season staged a revolt holding out for more money when she found out certain cast members got more to come back...she was bitter that the later cast members were all invited to the 100,000 challenges that the later ones seem to get to. She got enough people to refuse to tape unless they got more money. MTV threatened to sue since they signed contracts.

How do you know Abram has a big cock? The only one they ever said was scary big was Alton from the first Las Vegas, where Stephen and Triselle were sleeping together and saw him asleep with a boner. I think Triselle lost her mind on how big it was lol.

by Anonymousreply 138March 24, 2013 1:21 AM
Same thing with that guy who dated Anderson Cooper. Another one who had issues yet was in a house with a total homophobe.

This thread reminded me of something, and since it's become kind of a catch-all of all seasons of Real World & Road Rules, this might be an OK place to mention it.

Theo Von (Road Rules Maximum Velocity Tour) was on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen either last week or the week before. He was the guest bartender. The barkeeps don't normally get questions from the audience, but someone tweeted in commenting how they always loved his 'sexy' gap-toothed smile. But he smiled to show he's had the gap fixed now.

I don't even know what he was there to promote - maybe some comedy appearance since he does stand-up now.

And I had to look up what season of Road Rules he originally appeared on because he's one that did so many challenges it becomes tough to remember how they got their MTV start.

by Anonymousreply 140March 24, 2013 1:25 AM

Wasn't there an insider here who once claimed that half of the RW/RR Challenge hook-ups were male-male? Only the hetero ones made it on the air... The men who were hooking up with each other weren't the ones introduced as gay through the series.

by Anonymousreply 141March 24, 2013 1:28 AM

R142

Since we're now on the topic of RR/RW Challenges....

Remember when Mormon Julie tried to kill that whore Veronica by pulling on her strap as they were 100 feet in the air?

I wish she'd been successful.

God, I loved the fights between Katie and Veronica.
Emotionally fucked-up Dan from San Diego II (perhaps my favorite season)

When I posted that at R25, I meant to say [italic]Frank[/italic] in San Diego II. In fact he was also in the RR Challenge last year - the season with only RW cast members - and he was just as batshit crazy as he was in San Diego.

Reading all of these posts is reminding me of some more . . .

Remember short Joe in Miami dating that bubbleheaded blonde woman who was twice his height?

Or a drunken Tyrie from Denver peeing on the side of the building and consequently getting arrested by the police.

Or that guy with the heavy Boston accent - I don't remember from which season - getting into a fistfight outside a bar and subsequently getting his head cracked open when he hit the street?

And didn't that Jewish chick Cara from Chicago fling a knife or a fork at Kyle because decided he wanted to fuck one of the other female cast members instead? (And speaking of Chicago, wasn't Aneesa the woman who always went to the bathroom with the door wide open, much to the disgust of the other cast members?)

Also: Dunbar from Sydney did straight porn after RW.

And I also just want to mention Jose from Key West - but for no reason other than to mention I found him was quietly cute.

by Anonymousreply 144March 24, 2013 1:42 AM

It's interesting this was basically the first reality show, everyone seemed so normal and grounded! Compared to the fake shit of now it's like another world.

I loved the first and third season with Pedro Zamora. The second in LA was such a shit cast. Other ones I've seen have been terrible, especially the one in London.

by Anonymousreply 145March 24, 2013 1:43 AM

There were a lot of crazy/funny women on Challenge: Veronica, Katie, Jenn, Coral, Tonya, et cetera. I think Jenn and Veronica went lesbo too, right?

Kenny and even Wes seem like they would be down for no-recipro blowjobs. It's hard to think of many Challenge men who actually would be Kinsey 0's.

by Anonymousreply 146March 24, 2013 1:43 AM

Kenny and... what was his cohorts name? The one he was always partners in crime with? They always seemed the type who would hook up with a chick in a 3-way just so they could secretly hook up with each other.

by Anonymousreply 147March 24, 2013 1:54 AM

Johnny Bananas? I dont think that asshole Johnny likes the mens. Kenny might not object to a little mansex though

by Anonymousreply 148March 24, 2013 2:00 AM

It had cuties Dan and Noah. Dan had gay voice.

by Anonymousreply 149March 24, 2013 2:04 AM

Yes r144! I totally remember the Boston accent guy, I had forgotten all about him! I don't even remember what season or where but you just sparked a memory of him..damn, weird how many of them there were that I did watch.

by Anonymousreply 150March 24, 2013 2:09 AM
And I also just want to mention Jose from Key West - but for no reason other than to mention I found him was quietly cute.

Jose was a cutie...I loved when he said that bitch Janelle thought she was Beyonce. It was such a fabulous read for a guy that really didnt have much to say in the house. That whole season was about Johnny drooling over Svetlana and Paula losing her freaking mind.

by Anonymousreply 151March 24, 2013 2:10 AM

R148

Not Johnny Bananas... the other one. The two of them go around acting like they're always the leaders of the team... Evan?

by Anonymousreply 152March 24, 2013 2:11 AM

I could totally see there being lots of gay hookups on Challenge. Lots of alcohol, raging hormones, jacuzzi nudity - many sexualities were probably challenged (pun intended) on that show.

by Anonymousreply 153March 24, 2013 2:18 AM

I just looked at R139's links, and boy, that JD was a cunt. What was his deal?

Does anyone remember that Willie kid from Philadelphia? I found his vapidity so obnoxious - the only reason he came off well to most was because Karamo was so nuts.

by Anonymousreply 154March 24, 2013 2:24 AM

Do they get paid anything for being in the house? And there's no grand prize or winner a la "Big Brother", right? So what the hell is the point of going on the show unless you're A) Desperate for 15 minutes of fame or B) You have nothing else going on for you in life?

by Anonymousreply 155March 24, 2013 2:55 AM

R155

Yup that's about right.

by Anonymousreply 156March 24, 2013 2:59 AM

by Anonymousreply 158March 24, 2013 4:12 AM

The other "black" girl (fwiw she was half-white) was Nicole. I don't think she ever appeared on anything else RW-related after the series. To me, those wind up being the most fascinating people who go on RW than all the fameballs that appear on challenge after challenge.

That's also why RW as a series has suffered because they don't cast people for RW but for future challenges now.

by Anonymousreply 166March 24, 2013 5:26 AM

Reading this thread was fun. There was a site and forum called tubescan which focused mostly on the RW and RR. The people who ran the site had insider connections to MTV and Bunim Murray Productions. Back in 2002, they said that the cast members for RW and RR shows made between 3 to 4 k per season and some of the challenge shows were around the same range.

Tubescan also gave out info on the past cast members and often relatives and friends of cast members were the ones giving info to Tubescan. In the late 90s and early 00s some of the cast members were doing a lot of speaking gigs at colleges and some Tubescan forum members used to give recaps of the speaking events. Julie Stoffer, the Mormon from New Orleans made enemies with several RW alums because she used shady tactics in getting colleges to book her instead of other RW alums. Her NO castmate Melissa called her out on Battles of the Sexes 1.

Cara from the Chicago cast appeared on E! True Hollywood Story and said that she was pissed that the producers had planted night vision cameras in the bedrooms. It was rumored that she and fellow cast member Kerri threatened to sue MTV. Some cast members have publicly trashed MTV. Kevin from Return to NY bashed MTV on a radio show in Texas.

by Anonymousreply 167March 24, 2013 5:31 AM

Scott Herman is sexy as fuck. Too bad he's str8. Eric from New Orleans was sexy as fuck. Zach from San Diego was a homophobe but he was hot in a Chris Hemsworth way.

by Anonymousreply 168March 24, 2013 5:50 AM
The army guy was very homophobic and a total douche.

To me he came off as quite the prankster. He was the one who celebrated the hardest when Obama won the first time while Scott and the Mormon guy with the bowtie (with. A. BOWTIE!) were all sad and down. I also like him because he sang songs to the Mormon guy all the time and ended one particular song with ... because you are gay, gay, gay!

I remember Republican fitness model Scott gave the post op some money and never got it back.

by Anonymousreply 169March 24, 2013 8:52 AM

"Jacinda (RW London) was such a bitch"

Jacinda became an actress and was actually in a short lived TV show on one of the major networks.

Does anyone mentioned that spoiled and obnoxious Republican bitch Rachel Campos? She was from the San Fran cast, she married another ReThug from The Real World, Sean Duffy. They have SIX kids and Duffy's a congressman!

"After her stint on The Real World ended, while the fifth season of the show (set in Miami) was being filmed, Campos was involved in a head-on car collision after the driver of an oncoming vehicle fell asleep at the wheel.

Campos' boyfriend and his friend, who was driving their rented car, died in the accident. Campos was thrown out of the passenger-side window and sustained serious injuries to her right leg that caused permanent long-term problems such as arthritis, a limp and difficulty running."

by Anonymousreply 170March 24, 2013 9:21 AM

Judd Winick was another annoying creep from the San Francisco cast, he married Pam Ling from the show. Pam was kind of wishy-washy, but at least she wasn't an annoying attention seeking bitch like Rachel Campos!

Rachel also tried out for "The View"....several times.

Puck was absolutely vile, you could smell his rancid body odor through the TV screen!

Supposedly RW Rachel was a finalist for the gig on The View that went to Elizabeth Hasselblech.

anyway, I'm watching RW again and amazed how overtly liberal preachy on things like abortion and also a bit confused why they are so obsessed with Jerry Brown.

by Anonymousreply 173March 24, 2013 9:41 AM

In the first REAL WORLD YOU NEVER SAW (which featured unseen footage from NY, LA, San Francisco, London, Miami, and Boston), Sean Duffy from REAL WORLD: BOSTON was shown mooning the cameraman. I jerked off to that many times as a teen, but sadly I can't seem to find even a still online.

Anyway, did that come back to haunt him when he was running for office? My guess is no since he's still active in politics.

BTW: It's kinda interesting that he and Rachel have a daughter named Evita. haha

by Anonymousreply 174March 24, 2013 9:47 AM

David from RW Seattle was the hottest guy IMO. I also liked Danny from NO, Colin from Hawaii, Frank from Vegas (that chest), and of course Eric Nies.

Absolute hottest RR guy is Mark Long, who is still in incredible shape. Check out his YouTube videos, a lot of them are shirtless.
Supposedly RW Rachel was a finalist for the gig on The View that went to Elizabeth Hasselblech.

Yes, she, Elizabeth, and some blonde soap star were the three in serious contention. I remember when Lisa Ling fled... I mean, left and the whole search for her replacement. It came down to Rachel and Elizabeth. I remember hoping for Elizabeth because she was from my state (Massachusetts) and finding her cute and likable on SURVIVOR: THE AUSTRALIAN OUTBACK, while Rachel was insufferable in her season of REAL WORLD. Little did I know...

I also vaguely recall Rachel being one of the three in seriously considered in '99 when Debbie left, but then Lisa Ling got the gig. Poor Rachel. Is she even gonna try this year with Joy and Elizabeth leaving?

r174 Your confusing thesis has captured my attention, please, tell me more.

by Anonymousreply 177March 24, 2013 9:59 AM

David has eterochromia iridum (one brown eye, one blue eye), which I think makes him specialer.

by Anonymousreply 178March 24, 2013 10:02 AM

So I just got through the NY marathon's latest airing and am sitting through the first epi of SF.

So far it seems kind of boring and Pedro's lisp bothers me. Am I allowed to say that or is that too mean-spirited because he died/too homophobic/too racist? Well it's the truth.

by Anonymousreply 179March 24, 2013 12:26 PM
Colin from that season [Hawaii] was another hottie. I remember a couple years after his season he had a blog where he did lots of blatant teasing about his sexuality, talking about he and his buddies sucking each others' boners. But it had a weird performance art quality that made me think it was some kind of attention-seeking put-on.

I loved that blog.

by Anonymousreply 180March 24, 2013 1:16 PM

R176 I would still take Elisabeth over that loud mouth bitch Rachel anyday, which is really saying something.

by Anonymousreply 181March 24, 2013 1:22 PM

I've recently seen Rachel Campos Duffy as an occasional panel member of women on the Today show. She's very much like Hasselbeck in her ability to miss the point of whatever message is being discussed, and default to a defense of her personal beliefs, where no attack was made.

I saw Heather B last week. She is co-host on Sway's (MTV VJ) SiriusXM hip-hop morning show. She looked the same.

by Anonymousreply 183March 24, 2013 1:36 PM

So is this a test by MTV to see if viewers want more trash or introduce them to a more intelligent and real reality. Airing Real World season 3 while inter-spacing clips from the new season in Portland where the three girls are half naked by the pool comparing the color of their nipples? It almost seems intentional. Like they are saying to teen today..by the way, you suck.

by Anonymousreply 184March 24, 2013 1:57 PM

5 Biggest cocks in terms of length and girth in the history of RW/RR

Alton #1 Abram #2 David #3 Brad #4 CT #5

by Anonymousreply 186March 24, 2013 2:15 PM

The morning crowd skews older, and loves the glacial early seasons. The evening crowd skews younger, and reminisces about RR/RW Challenges and big cocks.

by Anonymousreply 187March 24, 2013 3:03 PM

lol r187

I didnt know Brad had big Italian sizemeat!

by Anonymousreply 188March 24, 2013 3:22 PM

Chet the Mormon guy from RW Brooklyn was annoying and in the closet. I wouldn't be surprised if he and the Army guy fucked. The Army guy was a bit liberal and he was involved with a "veterans against the war" organization.

by Anonymousreply 189March 24, 2013 3:23 PM

R188

I think it was mentioned several times on the show and if I recall correctly, he whipped it out and showed one or two of the girls. I think the verdict was that it was the size of a baseball bat.

Did we ever get an answer on who the Boston accent guy is and what season?

by Anonymousreply 196March 24, 2013 3:57 PM

Here is Willie Hernandez talking about the Philadelphia season in 2004.

Willie basically retreated into himself so he and Karamo wouldn't fight and be a bad representation of gay people on TV. I remember Willie and Karamo's interactions being really uncomfortable. It would have made for a better season if Willie would have just been himself. He had so little screen time that I almost forgot he was even on that season.

by Anonymousreply 197March 24, 2013 3:58 PM

Willie also rubbed me the wrong way. He seemed like such a snotty girlina.

by Anonymousreply 198March 24, 2013 4:04 PM

r196 I think you're thinking of David Seattle season.

He was so so so HOT - and he was pining for that chick Kira - (didn't she work for the show?)

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 199March 24, 2013 4:04 PM

The show today is basically a step short of soft core porn. How appropriate that a recent season featured gay-for-pay porn "actor" Dustin Zito.

Looking back, the original Las Vegas season seems like the tipping point. That was actually a decent cast, but the blatant hooking up really juiced what was starting to seem like a stale format. And they've never really looked back.

I remember reading (probably on DL) that the Seattle season featured a lot of off-camera drug use. Any old gossip on that?

Mary Ellis Bunim is watching from hell, where she wishes she could repent for her sins. But it's too late.

by Anonymousreply 200March 24, 2013 4:09 PM

I agree, R200, Vegas was the beginning of the end.

by Anonymousreply 201March 24, 2013 4:14 PM

r198, Willie said that is what the producers cast him for, to act like a snooty NYC queen that was better than everyone. All I can say is that came off that way anyway, despite not engaging Karamo's crazy ass.

by Anonymousreply 202March 24, 2013 4:16 PM

Anyone watching the San Francisco season today?

by Anonymousreply 203March 24, 2013 4:16 PM

r200 I agree with you Las vegas was when it became just pure exploitation & that season went on FOREVER! I almost felt sorry for dumb dumb dumb Traschelle and how Stephen played her.

New Orleans was the last one I actually enjoyed watching.

by Anonymousreply 204March 24, 2013 4:17 PM

Agreed, R202. Willie shows his true colors in that clip... He seems nightmarish.

by Anonymousreply 205March 24, 2013 4:19 PM

R195

Dom was a drunk from Ireland trying to get into the music industry.

by Anonymousreply 206March 24, 2013 4:21 PM

I would guess coke for the Seattle eps. Nathan looked strung the fuck out years later.

by Anonymousreply 207March 24, 2013 4:21 PM

R207

I loved Nathan and David's girlfriend troubles. If I remember correctly, Nathan's girlfriend was a real bitch.

I remember prior to the debut, they showed the casting process for Seattle and Nathan and David auditioned together. Later, some of the housemates were up in arms that they knew each other prior to moving in and said it wasn't "fair."

How it wasn't "fair" I dont know.. it's not like they were competing for prizes.

by Anonymousreply 208March 24, 2013 4:25 PM

And speaking of Real World Seattle... how was Lindsay 21? I swear she looked more like she was in her mid-30s.

by Anonymousreply 209March 24, 2013 4:30 PM

David's freak out.

by Anonymousreply 210March 24, 2013 4:33 PM

I think the show started to go downhill when the producers thought it would be a good idea to give the cast a job. I remember when they all worked at a radio station. The job storyline was always so boring.

by Anonymousreply 211March 24, 2013 4:42 PM

I LOVE YOU! IT KILLS ME! YOU DON'T EVEN KNOOOOW!

by Anonymousreply 212March 24, 2013 4:45 PM

Season 5, Miami, was the first one where the cast had a "job." I think that was a reaction to Season 4/London, where most of them sat on their asses all day doing nothing.

by Anonymousreply 213March 24, 2013 4:46 PM
As Paul Mooney coined the term for a new generation,"oh the tragic mulatto."

Paul Mooney is one of the many black assholes who are jealous of mixed people and do everything they can to put them down.

by Anonymousreply 214March 24, 2013 4:52 PM

Introducing the whole job aspect to the show was so contrived. I thought Miami came before London? Then again it has been so long I'm probably getting my seasons mixed up.

by Anonymousreply 215March 24, 2013 4:54 PM

Does anyone remember what the rationale was in the first season for only sending the girls to Jamaica?

by Anonymousreply 216March 24, 2013 4:54 PM

Miami came right after London. Then Boston, then Seattle, then I think Hawaii.

by Anonymousreply 217March 24, 2013 4:55 PM

Was David just using Kira the entire time? What shocks me now is that he's now a wealthy VP at the L.A. Times - he really parlayed the Real World into something long-lasting.

by Anonymousreply 218March 24, 2013 4:59 PM

I don't think so. I think he liked her. she was cute and bi-racial if I remember correctly. That's a draw for quite a number of guys.

He's a wealthy VP now? Good for him, he parlayed absolutely nothing into something for sure.

by Anonymousreply 219March 24, 2013 5:09 PM

I can't stand that guy Kevin from the first season. Everything to him was about Race and calling everyone he could a racist. He was ridiculous.

And his whole spiel about how a white woman would always fair better than a black man?

Tell that to Hilary, Kevin.

by Anonymousreply 220March 24, 2013 5:14 PM

by Anonymousreply 230March 24, 2013 5:42 PM

R230

Was Semester at Sea a Real World season or a Road Rules season?

I only saw one episode of it and only remember some scandal about cheating on a paper or an exam.

by Anonymousreply 231March 24, 2013 5:54 PM

The cheating scandal happened with Ayanna and uber-cunt Veronica, R231. Yes was Polynesian, right?

What is Katie up to these days? She and Laurel were the closest the Challenges ever got to 'heroines'.

by Anonymousreply 232March 24, 2013 5:58 PM

R232

Loved Katie on the challenges, especially when her team kept trying to get rid of her by throwing her into the Inferno. Best one was when she had to go up against David from Seattle and they had to hold their breath in a tub of spoiled milk.

Katie was prepared to die before she'd lose and I'm pretty sure she meant it.

by Anonymousreply 233March 24, 2013 6:04 PM
Willie also rubbed me the wrong way. He seemed like such a snotty girlina.

I agree. Just watch him in the video R197 posted. He's a real femmy bitch.

by Anonymousreply 234March 24, 2013 6:17 PM

LOVED watching RW NYC. Such memories. I can imagine many younger viewers watching this in awe at the fact that there were no computers in the house, that roommates were waiting for phone calls because there were no cell phones. The clothes are dated (I still wear me jean shorts and Doc Martens like Becky)and just the discussions in general. As many have said, the Las Vegas season was the end of an era. I know that the producers were different by that time and they discovered that hot tubs, alcohol and pretty (and dimwitted) people is all the show needed. Sad how the show has become.

NYC1, SF, LA and London were the best of the season. Everything else pales.

by Anonymousreply 235March 24, 2013 6:22 PM
NYC1, SF, LA and London were the best of the season. Everything else pales.

London was one of the best??? Please. The fact you didn't even list the New Orleans one from 2000 says a lot about your taste.

by Anonymousreply 236March 24, 2013 6:26 PM

Everyone thinks their own youthful cultural milestones are the best, Mia. I personally think that the middle seasons are the best ones, but I don't think that the earliest seasons are any worse for that. Even recent seasons had their moments - Parisa's ethnicity-based bullying, Katelynn coming out as MTF, Dustin's gay porn revelation.

by Anonymousreply 237March 24, 2013 6:28 PM

Do you remember San Diego's Frankie? I know she had CF, but what an epic bitch... Also, whatever happened to Charlie, Frankie's replacement? He was originally from Serbia, so you know he had to be sizemeat.

by Anonymousreply 238March 24, 2013 6:41 PM

R238

Was Frankie the one that was also a cutter? I think she ended up dying from CF?

by Anonymousreply 239March 24, 2013 6:48 PM

Frankie's dead now.

by Anonymousreply 240March 24, 2013 6:49 PM

Wow after showing clip of Pedro's struggle with aids they show a clip of new season with two cast members screwing in the bathroom their first day on the job. Wow just wow. Our society is in deep shit.

by Anonymousreply 241March 24, 2013 6:54 PM

R241 Scary, isn't it? People today are so stupid they act like AIDS is no big deal anymore.

by Anonymousreply 242March 24, 2013 6:56 PM

Yeah, I think she died a few years ago, R239. Have you seen the preview for the new season, in Portland? I think we have another closet case on our hands... Jordan Wiseley hooks up with one of the girls, but he does yoga and has extreme gayvoice. When it's revealed that one of the castmates posed in Playboy - a stupid inversion of the Dustin Zito thing - he reacts by putting his hands over his mouth in the most ef*eminate way ever.

Overall, the new season looks like a bust: a closeted gay, lots of drunken fights, and people with definite First World problems.

by Anonymousreply 243March 24, 2013 6:57 PM

She did die of CF. I made an exception to watch for one more season (we've all said that) to watch Frankie, both because my bro died of CF and because I am from SD. Frankie was a different breed of cat for sure. Sometimes people with fatal diseases use it as an excuse for being jerks.

by Anonymousreply 244March 24, 2013 7:00 PM

It's sad watching RW San Francisco. People were still dying every day from AIDS back then. I couldn't take it. I hit bottom, and then I started to dig -- crashing at a friend's flat, snorting meth, unemployed, no money. I felt like a Vampire. I was "babysitting" during the day for a couple of guys who were on their way out. I didn't need to see the MTV version. I lived in the lower Haight, a couple of blocks away from the Real World house. I didn't watch the show then because I didn't want to see Pedro die. Seeing it now is kind of hard. But riveting at the same time.

by Anonymousreply 245March 24, 2013 7:12 PM

r233 that inferno is in this vid. After Katie won she went completely bonkers on Veronica lol. This is one of my favorite fights on The Challenge. I cant remember if Coral vs Julie was on this season, I think that is the all time best blow up. "I beat bitches down!"

Is there woman on these shows who hasnt wanted to kill Veronica? She probably stopped doing The Challenge because she feared for her life.

I wonder if Rachel is even watching this. How embarrasing it must be to watch herself being manipuated by an asshole loser like Puck. It amazed me then and it amazes me now. I believe Puck was recently arrested for stalking a woman.

Sean and Pedro were beautiful.

by Anonymousreply 247March 24, 2013 7:15 PM

Damn. I haven't thought of RW in ages, and it's been even longer since I viewed an ep. When looking at the linked YouTube clips, I noticed a clip for St Thomas, season 20-something (and somebody upthread referenced it's been 24 years or so). I didn't know the series was still in production! RW (and its sister shows) are like SNL: going on forever even though its heyday is history.

by Anonymousreply 248March 24, 2013 8:00 PM

It's really nostalgic watching the original seasons of 'The Real World'. I was in my early teens when they first started airing and I can remember how novel reality TV was at the time and how 'The Real World' felt more like a sociological experiment and there was some genuine attempt at showing diversity that created lots of dynamic tension and magic. The current incarnations of 'The Real World' mostly pale in comparison and the first Las Vegas season was the genesis of that. It's ironic that the 90s seasons were largely more serious and "issues" oriented, whereas the seasons post-9/11 are more about partying, booze and T&A.

My favorite seasons were/are: New York ('92), Los Angeles ('93), San Francisco, Miami, New Orleans, Chicago, Brooklyn, Washington D.C., San Diego ('12).

by Anonymousreply 249March 24, 2013 8:04 PM

by Anonymousreply 253March 24, 2013 8:24 PM

On a related note, remember when MTV used to have their big Spring Break weekend every year? I'm talking early 90s. OMG! They were always full of major beefcake with Hot Body contests, etc. Those were the good ol' days of MTV.

by Anonymousreply 255March 24, 2013 8:30 PM

Among the recent seasons, I think Brooklyn is the only one that can touch the early seasons as far as the cast goes. the Brooklyn kids seemed smart and engaging, and there wasn't as much of the drunken slutting around going on.

by Anonymousreply 256March 24, 2013 8:32 PM

My fave seasons were LA (1992) and Chicago, but there were a lot of great seasons in the past. The show has become a mere shell of what it used to be, but at this point I guess it will continue on forever.

by Anonymousreply 257March 24, 2013 8:38 PM

R230 Yes lives in the SF Bay Area, and is married with a kid. I only know because I ran into he, his wife and the baby at the Oakland Art Murmur where his wife looked to be hawking jewelry.

by Anonymousreply 258March 24, 2013 8:52 PM

The Brooklyn season had a very good mix of cast members.

New Orleans 2 was ok, I only watched to see Ryan, the mentally unbalanced hairdresser, and Preston fight. Preston is probably my favorite Real World gay after Dan from New Orleans 1. He took absolutely no shit from Ryan's crazy ass.

by Anonymousreply 259March 24, 2013 8:56 PM

by Anonymousreply 266March 24, 2013 9:14 PM

I knew he was gay the entire season long, and it didn't take Irene saying it to enlighten me. I think he even brought over a woman once, billed as his "girlfriend", and I was like--who is this kid fooling?

by Anonymousreply 267March 24, 2013 9:16 PM

R256 Oh there was slutting going around sweetheart. That built white guy kept on bringing black girls over to make that cute black girl jealous! I wonder if he bagged her off camera though.....

by Anonymousreply 268March 24, 2013 9:19 PM

I know I will get flamed for this but I do agree with Puck as far as Pedro being much more than his disease and that possibly people may dislike him personally and not because of his being gay. I never saw Pedro as an interesting or compelling person, was he? He put himself in a box where all he talked about was his disease, anyone could do that. Honestly, do you guys think Pedro is interesting? and If so, why?

by Anonymousreply 269March 24, 2013 9:21 PM

R246

"Please bang on the coffin to let me know I've won otherwise I might die."

by Anonymousreply 270March 24, 2013 9:28 PM

R269 Maybe you don't know this, but Pedro died just months after filming finished. So obviously he was probably feeling the complications of the disease while filming and it would be kind of hard not to talk about it all the time when it's taking up his life. Also, he was interesting because back then, there were still very few treatments for AIDS and people got to see the everyday life of what it was like to be dying of the disease.

The David thing in LA is what opened up the whole can of worms with evicting roommates, it's why they were able to kick Puck out. It became like Big Brother in that you expected someone to leave each week, but it totally destroyed the "true story" aspect of 7 strangers having to live together.

by Anonymousreply 281March 24, 2013 9:58 PM

R269 I hear ya on that one. I must say that Puck was a dick and was insensitive to the situation though. However Pedro came across as the gay guy with Aids. The scenario with Pedro's husband was interesting with a white Cuban marrying a black man.

Cory was a trip. I remember when she felt sad/guilty because she was not ethically diverse and was white!Every group needs a sad sack.

Rachel was cute until she opened her mouth. Puck treated her like shit and she ate it up. I seem to remember this cute exchange between Puck and Jo, his replacement.I wonder if Rachel was jealous or not.

Jo was a bit of a cunt. That guy who went to court with her and stuck with her through thick and thin was jettisoned when he was no longer needed.I think she led him on personally...

Did Pedro get pneumonia? What exactly did he die from?

by Anonymousreply 283March 24, 2013 10:08 PM

I don't know r283 but according to the movie he died incredibly sadly, all alone in his old bedroom at his parent's house, no tv or anything to while away the time, just a crucifix on the wall to stare at. It sounds melodramatic but I believe it.

by Anonymousreply 284March 24, 2013 10:15 PM

Speaking of Colin and Hawaii, does anyone remember that 'pre-casting' special where Colin was the host and chosen to interview the finalists for both RW and RR (I think it was Semester at Sea). Anyway, someone asked Colin out of all the females he met before being cast, who would he have hooked up with and surprisingly he was into this white/latina hood type who didn't make the final cut. I always found that so funny considering his RW hookup with Amaya.

by Anonymousreply 287March 24, 2013 10:19 PM

I hope R273 is joking. He never had a pretty face - too potato Irish - and his nips are too small.

r286 I think Pedro's parents wouldn't allow Sean to visit. I think he tried many times and they turned him away, I hope Pedro knew he tried.
"Jacinda (RW London) was such a bitch". Jacinda became an actress and was actually in a short lived TV show on one of the major networks.

I hated that bitch! Especially so when after that gig was up she went out with Chris Hardwick and then married the hot actor Gabriel Macht. I heard she was a semi-successful actress, but then so was Amanda de Cadenet.

by Anonymousreply 292March 24, 2013 10:28 PM

Hawaii's Colin tried his luck in Hollywood for a bit. In early 2000, a year after his REAL WORLD season, he was the fifth lead on an NBC mid+season replacement sitcom titled M.Y.O.B., which starred Heather Graham and Katharine Towne. The show was so bad, it only lasted 4 episodes.

After that, he decided to stick to what he knew (and could do) best and went back to MTV and did a lot of those RW/RR challenges. Meanwhile, Towne and Graham went on to bigger and better things, especially Graham who would immediately get cast for GILMORE GIRLS, which began airing in fall 2000.

The producers bill people however they want. I work with a woman who was on a couple episodes of the LA season and was credited as Dom's girlfriend/hookup but she says they were never romantically involved. It was just to create drama that didn't exist - I think one of the castmates was into Dom.

With people bringing up RW acting credits, how can you all forget Real World Chicago's Kyle, who was a huge fake to the women and refused to show affection on camera because he said he thought it would be bad for his future political career that he thought he was going to have as a Princeton grad. Then like a year after RW he wound up replacing Jay Kenneth Johnson as Philip Kiriakis on Days of our Lives.

I totally remember Kyle being a momentary soap star, R300.

Tami from season two (LA) did a lot of bit part work. She played a bartender on "Silk Stalkings", was the hostess on the short-lived game show "Card Sharks", and she had a recurring role on the short-lived Alex O'Loughlin vampire series "Moonlight".

Beth from Los Angeles was a struggling actress during that season, and she popped up as an extra in an episode of "Beverly Hills, 90210" and in the Pauly Shore movie "Son in Law".

David from that season was in the David Chaapelle film "Half Baked" and one of the "House Party" movies.

As for Tami, who could forget her vocal group Reality's debut on the show...?

I'm tempted to attach a link of a pic of RW Sydney's Dunbar excursion into porn, but the conversation has been so respectable so far, I don't want to lower it.

It's the DL, R306, so you don't have to worry about respectability. I've seen the clip of Dunbar's porn foray, and while he initially looks game, he ends up kind of overwhelmed. It's the only time I actually felt sorry for a guy in porn.

Is Dave Giuntoli bi? He's supposedly friendly with Henry Cavill. I used to get him confused with Adam Larson, until his show took off.

Did anyone else notice that when the roommates were interviewing the 3 prospective candidates to replace Puck - a search which resulted in the selection of Jo - one of them was a very young Mark Long of future Road Rules and Challenge fame? And was Kris, the blonde who they also interviewed, ever brought back in the fold for some future related project?

by Anonymousreply 311March 26, 2013 1:35 AM

If MTV ever wanted to return to its early roots - and quite clearly they do not - all they would need to do is find people pursuing their lives/careers in a particular city and have them live together.

by Anonymousreply 312March 26, 2013 1:39 AM

R311

Yes. I believe when they first launched RR they did a casting special and they talked about how Mark was so liked during the RW casting that they specifically brought him back because they wanted to work with him.

by Anonymousreply 313March 26, 2013 1:41 AM

Oh yeah, I was gonna say about Jo. So bland I forgot her. What was up with her?

She was like the Jo in Melrose Place, a presumptuous annoying bitch that thought she was so cool and just suddenly fit in despite clearly being wrong and out of place. It's never the same if you're a reject replacement drafted in.

by Anonymousreply 314March 26, 2013 1:41 AM

P.S. Pedro was very beautiful physically, and from some of the clips I've seen, he seemed very beautiful on the inside, too. I know that sounds cliched, but whatever.

P.P.S. It was cool that President Clinton was able to get visas for the rest of his family in Cuba so that they were able to be with Pedro in his final days and at the funeral.

God, Melissa is and will always be one of my all-time favorite RWers. By a mile. She's so smart, funny, interesting, and articulate. I remember being a bored, lonely 20-year old living at home and I emailed her about a year after her season ended. And she wrote back.

It's weird to see her as she is now. She looks a lot softer and she seems to have calmed down. I wish her all the best.

The first season cast of Road Rules was mostly made up of people who almost got cast in previous seasons of the Real World. The native American chick almost got cast for RW: London, believe it or not.

by Anonymousreply 322March 26, 2013 2:50 AM

I always thought Road Rules was so stupid. Glad they eventually cancelled it.

by Anonymousreply 323March 26, 2013 2:54 AM

Exactly, r312. Back in its early days, the housemates were interesting because they chose to be part of the show, ASIDE from their regular jobs/schooling. They were pursuing other dreams, and yes, they probably knew that the show could get them publicity, but still, they had some discernible life outside of the house.

Now, it's the opposite. Their life IS the house and being on the show. I was looking at the cast roster for the current season, and two of them are listed as being "models". Really? How fucking boring, and I bet Jacinda from London probably seems ten times more sophisticated than either of them.

by Anonymousreply 324March 26, 2013 3:40 AM

Is there a reason they changed it from people pursuing their goals to a house full of young people doing nothing?

by Anonymousreply 325March 26, 2013 3:46 AM

R325, I think the success of BIG BROTHER had something to do with it.

by Anonymousreply 326March 26, 2013 4:01 AM
Jacinda (RW London) was such a bitch. Making Sharon her personal slave and then foisting the pet store Shi Tzu puppy on her after she left it untrained.

I liked her. I loved the way she went out and bought herself a puppy on a whim. She, to my young eyes, seemed cool and laid back and enjoyed life.

She became an actress and I saw her in a few things.

I thought the racing car driver was a closet case.

by Anonymousreply 327March 26, 2013 4:11 AM

I loved Road Rules. It was often more satisfying than The Real World.

by Anonymousreply 328March 26, 2013 4:14 AM

r310 I wasn't lying, for Christ's sake, I have no fucking axe to grind with Sean, just going I what I heard and read, including this interview excerpt from POZ magazine:

"Sadly, Sean did not have an opportunity to meet Pedro's family until after Pedro got sick, so sick that he could no longer communicate to them the importance of Sean in his life. On TV, it always appeared that Pedro's parents were in complete support of their son's lifestyle and choices. "That wasn't my experience," Sean says flatly. "I shouldn't have had to deal with a lot of the stuff that I dealt with in Miami. If Pedro and I were legally married, his family would have understood and respected my right to be there. And, of course, that was an abomination. It was just very hypocritical and unnecessary and I didn't understand it. It caused even more turmoil around an already desperate and hurtful situation." He raises his voice. "I was told Pedro did not need to have a lover anymore. And it was very obvious from the start, when he could communicate, that he wanted me there. I have a lot of resentment toward dealing with his family's homophobia, as well as dealing with him dying."

Which is pretty much what I said I had heard, Pedro's family turned Sean away and by the time he saw him, he was far gone.

by Anonymousreply 329March 26, 2013 6:51 AM

R327

Didn't she buy herself a puppy and then leave it to everyone else in the house to take care of/clean up after?

by Anonymousreply 330March 26, 2013 1:12 PM

R329 I think R310's (overheated) point was that Pedro's BF (Sean Sasser) didn't abandon him as was posted.

According to a link I came across, Pedro's "family try to bar Sasser from seeing him. As his condition deteriorates, and his story makes the news, he confronts his sister over his family's exclusion of Sasser. After they view a videotape of the wedding ceremony, they have a change of heart, and welcome Sasser back into the fold."

Also, I came across something somewhere that Pedro wasn't alone when he died. There were a couple of family members plus Judd & Pam from the series with him.

R327, it wasn't the race car driver from the London season who was a closet case but that skinny little playwright Jay wannabe as I mentioned earlier.

You know in all of us mentioning who is, was or should have been gay, but not one of us has mentioned . . .

Tyler from Key West.

Melissa from New Orleans was the first to say openly how much of a bitch Mary Ellis Bunim (one of the producers) was. Apparently, Mary treated the casts of all the shows like shit and was a slave driver. Once Melissa spilled the beans, others felt comfortable to openly agree with her.

Of course, Melissa said all of this upon learning that Mary had died. Classy.

In addition to the cheating scandal on Semester at Sea didn't Veronica also get caught stealing the clothes of one of the other girls? I think her name was Pua or something. All I remember about her is that she randomly blurted out that she'd been raped in the past and randomly shaved her head.

Also who was the girl from RR who got eliminated (in the first season where they did eliminations) and then showed up at the Back to New York house to hook up with Malik whom she'd met during casting? It was such a blatant attempt to stay on TV but I kinda admired her shameless fame whoring because it was so ballsy.

by Anonymousreply 334March 26, 2013 2:56 PM

R334

Yes, Veronica was a thief, stealing papers and tops. It was all in the same episode.

Pua was looking for some top of hers she wanted to wear. She asked her roommates and Veronica just sat there like she didnt know what was going on.

Later, Pua goes into her roommates closets and finds her top crumpled and hidden in the back of Veronica's closet.

She decides to wear it out that night so she can see Veronicas reaction.

She confronts Veronica and Veronica denies it. Later, off camera, Veronica admits she stole it and asks Pua to go on camera with a fake story about how Pua had her friend try the top on and the friend took it off and threw it into a pile of Veronicas close and it just got misplaced.

by Anonymousreply 335March 26, 2013 3:16 PM

R334

I remember that. It was kind of funny because they were mic'd, but off camera. I guess Veronica completely forgot about that? I figured that you get so use to wearing the mics that after awhile you forget about them.

The German guy rented a classic sports car. He wanted to take some girl to Brighton for the weekend but damaged the car on the way home and lost his deposit. I've often thought of renting a classic car and always think of him and change my mind.
Didn't she [Jacinda] buy herself a puppy and then leave it to everyone else in the house to take care of/clean up after?

Yes, she was an international model and kept going away and leaving the dog. I live near the pet shop where she bought the dog and they no longer have dogs in the window. You have to order them. No more buying dogs on a whim from pet shops in England.

She moved to America and became a successful actress.

The San Fran RW was an early lesson for me, in how life isn't fair. I remember watching, and thinking how wrong it was that Puck, that discusting creep, was still alive at the end, and adorable, kind hearted Pedro, was not.

I love this description of RW - London:

"7. London (Season 4; Aired 1995) London got a lot of criticism for being boring. For episodes upon episodes of aimless twentysomethings lounging about their Notting Hill castle, picking up dog crap. In hindsight, the show is a complete breath of fresh air. With the bar-hopping of the last decade's worth of seasons having grown much more monotonous than the London sloth ever was, watching these low-key roommates actually talk to and learn about one another is almost thrilling. It's also one of the most purely likable casts. At the time, Neil's Brit-punk superiority chafed and race-car driver Mike's frat-boy routine grew wearisome, but pull up an episode on Hulu and see how well-intentioned and relatable these kids are. Jacinda probably comes closest to being objectionable — she's kind of a bully, kind of a flake, decent prankster, though — but there's a core of decency in this group that was rare even in the early seasons. MVP: Sharon. Wonderful, sweet, chatty-as-hell Sharon. She took a lot of (usually good-hearted) grief from her roommates and responded with a smile. She also nearly died of strep (or something) and had a really beautiful singing voice and may well be the best human being to ever be on this show."

It may have been "boring" at the time, but I imagine any season would have a tough time following RW - SF.

by Anonymousreply 364March 29, 2013 3:07 AM

Fuck, I don't know r364. Now I am confused. I thought that was the only time they broke the "no intervention" rule but maybe it was BB. Who knew all this trivial crap was in my head? I do know they broke the wall to stop Ruthie from driving and I thought I heard about the toothbrush thing being on here but it could have been BB.

by Anonymousreply 365March 29, 2013 3:12 AM

There was a toilet/toothbrush incident on the 2nd New Orleans season. Is that maybe what you are thinking of?

'Non-gay' hairdresser Ryan had been fighting with gay Preston for an extended period. One of the things Ryan had done was rub Preston's smokes in his own ass, or something.

So Preston retaliated by using Ryan's toothbrush to clean the toilet.

Ryan called the cops for that 'assault' (or whatever it would be considered legally) and the production team had to get involved.

I didn't see it but I heard about it r366. That sounds about right. I wonder why I thought it was Flora. Oh well, thank you for the clarification.

Real World Miami always seemed to me like the season that was more like a spin off of The Real World... like the Freshman class imitating the Senior class... but with nerdy, ugly kids trying too hard. I don't think there was a single attractive cast member from that season and that franchise just didn't fit in with the others.

The toothbrush incident was from the second season of BIG BROTHER (2001). Shannon got mad at hunky Hardy for nominating her and her BB hook-up Will, so she used his toothbrush to clean the toilet. The producers intervened because they said it "was unsanitary."

So who has the biggest Real World cock?

It goes from smallest Eric Nies to Danny Roberts to Dunbar to Dustin, right?

by Anonymousreply 370March 31, 2013 10:55 PM

Nies's penis was the size of a olive.

It was Flora who was doing the do with Melissa and some dude in the shower while the roommates listened in.>>

No, the three-way was between Melissa, Mike, and a girl he picked up at a club. Flora and Dan were the ones who stood outside the bathroom trying to get a look at them.

R372

Didn't it later get revealed that the threesome was actually more like a twosome with Melissa hooking up with the waitress and Mike sitting there watching and unable to get hard (supposedly because he was drunk)?

by Anonymousreply 373April 1, 2013 12:16 AM

I remember in one of the reunion shows, Mike said he did watch and that Melissa kept spanking the waitress and Dan and Flora heard the sounds.

Even if Eric Nies only has a three inch dong, I'd still suck it.

So I take it no one is watching the new season that started last week and was filmed in Portland?

by Anonymousreply 376April 4, 2013 7:22 PM

I didn't expect Marlon's bisexuality.

by Anonymousreply 377April 4, 2013 7:28 PM

So, what do you think of the girls' suggestion that the reason Marlon never had a serious relationship with a woman is because deep down he's really gay and hasn't dealt with it yet?

by Anonymousreply 378April 4, 2013 7:35 PM

San Fran = iconic.

by Anonymousreply 379April 4, 2013 7:42 PM

Especially with all the movement in support of marriage equality, I cannot imagine the producers would not cast a gay roommate for the season.

by Anonymousreply 380April 4, 2013 7:47 PM

Does anyone know which of the original cast leaves the house early?
