Ben Savage Joins 'Girl Meets World' (90s 'Boy Meets World' Sequel) Alongside Danielle Fishel
Ben Savage will be playing Cory Matthews once again! The actor has joined the cast of "Girl Meets World," the sequel series to the '90s ABC comedy "Boy Meets World," according to the Disney Channel. Danielle Fishel will also reprise her "Boy Meets World" role as Topanga Lawrence for the pilot.
Disney Channel confirms the pilot is still in "very early stages of development" and that a nationwide casting search is still underway for 13-year-old Riley Matthews. "Girl Meets World" will follow Cory (Savage) and Topanga's (Fishel) teen daughter Riley. "Boy Meets World" creator Michael Jacobs is behind the project.
The cast for "Girl Meets World" will also include Maya, Riley's edgy best friend. Sounds a bit like Shawn Hunter to us!
In the new series Cory will be a history teacher, just like his "Boy Meets World" mentor Mr. Feeny.
"I'm very excited for Disney and [creator] Michael Jacobs," William Russ, who played Cory's dad Alan Matthews on the series, said in a statement to HuffPost TV. "They are a great team and will produce an exceptional show, I have no doubt."
Anthony Tyler Quinn, who played Mr. Turner on "Boy Meets World," told HuffPost TV he'd be interested in appearing on the new series.
"'Boy Meets World' was and continues to be these beautiful brushstrokes in my life," he said. "It was a wonderful experience, and I think Michael's going to create something fresh. I'd love to be a part of it."
Tell us: Are you excited that Cory and Topanga might be back on TV?

He and Fred really grew up to be hot men.

What about that sexy little Rider Strong? What a great porn name, gone to waste. I guess there's always hope.
|by Anonymous||reply 3||11/27/2012|
Um, Cory and Topanga are not old enough to have a teen daughter. WTF?
|by Anonymous||reply 4||11/27/2012|
Rider Strong is super hot.
|by Anonymous||reply 5||11/27/2012|
Will Fishel be making out with girls on the show like she does in real life?
|by Anonymous||reply 6||11/27/2012|
R4. They got married right after high school and they're in their early 30's now. A 13 year old kid sounds reasonable.
|by Anonymous||reply 8||11/27/2012|
Any news as to whether or not Will Friedle will sign on? I was always hot for him (and the Lawrence kid)...
|by Anonymous||reply 9||11/27/2012|
R5- Mmmmmmm, Rider has grown into a sexy ass otter. I'd do so many unspeakable, filthy things to his mouth and ass.
|by Anonymous||reply 10||11/27/2012|
I just saw Rider on a Law & Order:CI rerun as a Muslim terrorist.
|by Anonymous||reply 11||11/27/2012|
Jesus, I hope he escaped Weinstein and that crowd. What they did to his brother is a crime. Christ, that poor kid.
|by Anonymous||reply 12||11/27/2012|
In high school, I was totally in love with Rider Strong. I used to dream of threesomes with him & Matt Lawrence. That show had the best eye candy for a 17 y/o gay boy.
Mr. & Mrs. Savage did well. Ben & Fred are both handsome men. Ben is actually hot, which is somewhat surprising. There were some college-age pictures which weren't very flattering. Glad he transitioned through that phase.
Nice to see child actors grow up not fucked up & be able to have quiet success in the industry.

Back ON TOPIC (if only briefly)...
I remember watching this show when I was a kid. With all the shameless reboots, prequels, and sequels that Hollywood is coming up with, this actually seems like a clever concept to continue a show that was wholesome, funny, and successful. And the "continuation casting" is great.
|by Anonymous||reply 15||11/27/2012|
Rider Strong looks like a pancake with hair.
|by Anonymous||reply 16||11/27/2012|
R12. I would also like to know what you're talking about.
|by Anonymous||reply 17||11/27/2012|
Danielle turned out well.
|by Anonymous||reply 20||11/27/2012|
This is going to be cheesy as fuck, but as a 90s child, I'm embarrassingly excited.
|by Anonymous||reply 21||11/27/2012|
Will William Daniels appear?
|by Anonymous||reply 22||11/27/2012|
Ben isn't sexy at all. Does he suck dick?
|by Anonymous||reply 24||11/28/2012|
Danielle playing Lilo playing Liz Taylor
|by Anonymous||reply 25||12/01/2012|
Ben Savage is gay.
Years ago someone here posted a camera phone pic of him at a gay bar. He was with a guy.
|by Anonymous||reply 26||12/01/2012|
I remember the photo, R26. It was posted here. If you try to Google it, though, you can't find it.
|by Anonymous||reply 27||12/02/2012|
Rider Strong is gay.
When I found out that people who went to Stanford with Ben said he's gay too, it made me wonder if they ever fucked around in the BMW days.
|by Anonymous||reply 29||12/02/2012|
Read on Vulture that Rider Strong is not going to do the new show.
|by Anonymous||reply 30||12/02/2012|
Didn't a poster here once say that Rider Strong hit on him in a gym locker room? I remember the poster saying that Rider had a very full, thick bush - that makes sense, given how hairy the rest of his body is.
|by Anonymous||reply 32||12/02/2012|
BMW was my childhood. Me, my bro, and sis would crack up at every episode.excited for this.
Never thought Ben was gay but he was kinda lispy by the end. But then, so was Fred.
|by Anonymous||reply 33||12/02/2012|
Fred DEFINITELY grew up to be hot.
|by Anonymous||reply 34||12/02/2012|
I thought Rider Strong had a girlfriend?!
Or was that just a front?
|by Anonymous||reply 35||12/02/2012|
I think Ben turned out much better than Fred. It's for the best, I suppose, since Ben is the gay one.
Is Ben a Republican, though? He interned for Arlen Specter once.
|by Anonymous||reply 36||12/08/2012|
He wasn't too interested in girls in college, R35.
|by Anonymous||reply 37||12/08/2012|
Please tell me Rider Strong is gay. I vaguely remember watching some late-night interview back in the late '90s/early '00s where he was being interviewed and he was FLAMING. He mentioned going to Occidental College (very liberal arts college in LA) and that's the last I've seen or heard from him.
|by Anonymous||reply 39||12/08/2012|
Ben has never been linked with any girl. He's in his 30's now, with nary a female in sight.
Will Disney make him beard for the new show?
|by Anonymous||reply 40||12/08/2012|
My response? Controller meets Thumb.
|by Anonymous||reply 41||12/08/2012|
Almost certainly, R41. This is how the series should play out, though...
'Girl Meets World' sees Ben's character living with his gay Sri Lankan lover (Kal Penn), and raising an adopted 5th grade girl. Ben has lost his job as an insipid software programmer, and is pity-hired by hirsute ex-lover Rider Strong. The job is in the gayborhood, and Rider still has feelings for Ben. Hijinks ensue.

Rider followed the Obama path and transfered to Columbia, R39. And I can tell you that while there, he was quietly (albeit openly) gay. Or at least everyone I knew that met him said he was pretty open about it. And word traveled because the show was so big for our generation, and everyone was amazed that Shawn Hunter was a gay.
Admittedly, I never met him, but then I was a major closet case at the time anyway.
|by Anonymous||reply 43||12/08/2012|
Meet Cory and Topanga’s daughter. Maybe she'll grow into her looks.
|by Anonymous||reply 44||01/29/2013|
Apparently Rider didn't get the gay memo, since he got enegaged to his long-term girlfriend in December.
|by Anonymous||reply 45||01/29/2013|
Anyone know anything interesting about Ben?
|by Anonymous||reply 47||10/19/2013|
Is Fishel still denying her Jew girl looks?
|by Anonymous||reply 48||03/03/2015|
I watched two episodes of this the other night. Ben has some odd facial thingies going on.
And they need to keep an eye on the boy playing Farkas. He is so flamming he might catch something on fire.
|by Anonymous||reply 49||03/03/2015|
r47, watch the documentary about child abuse in Hollywood
|by Anonymous||reply 50||03/03/2015|
This didn't turn out to be the hit it was expected to be, did it? Dies it have much buzz?
|by Anonymous||reply 51||03/03/2015|
r51, it received good ratings
|by Anonymous||reply 52||03/03/2015|
Girl Meets World is too much of a "Disney" show.
They need to watch that.
Boy Meets World was a legit sitcom.
|by Anonymous||reply 53||03/03/2015|
The show started its second season this week with five new episodes, including a visit to Mr. Feeney and a visit from Cory's other brother, Eric, who has gone from normal-acting (at the start of BMW) to idiot (by the end of BMW) to hippie peacenik weirdo. And he looks more like he'd be Shaun's brother than the Semitic Cory.
The show hasn't let up on its contrived storylines and didactically preachy, on-the-nose dialogue, occasionally borrowing BMW's tropes to score nostalgic laughs. And Lucas and Farkle make more sense as a couple than Lucas and Riley.

It looks like another Boy Meets World alum is headed to Girl Meets World. EW confirmed Thursday that Matthew Lawrence will bring his perfect hair and 6 percent body fat to the Disney spinoff.
He first appeared in season 5 as Shawn Hunter’s (Rider Strong) long lost (and overly confident) brother, Jack. When we last saw him in the series finale, he was headed to the Peace Corps with Rachel (Maitland Ward).
Lawrence will reprise his role in one episode this season, but no further details have been released. He joins a hefty list of former BMW cast members stepping into the GMW universe including Strong, Will Friedle, William Daniels, Trina McGee, Blake Clark, and Anthony Tyler Quinn.
