The series is more fascinating than the movie in the fact that the series feels more real. Of course, this could be staged too, but it seems more real.

I particularly loved the episode where the blonde southern belle thought she was chatting online to this studly male model for years only to find out that she was really talking to a chubby, disheveled bull-dyke the entire time.

This sort of thing happens more than you know. I know a couple of people who've been duped like this IRL.

I was watching the movie Catfish again, and didn't understand why Nev put up with the whole facade, and didn't demand right away why the woman lied. You feel sorry for her, but still..

They had a black, overweight, queeny gay guy on last night. He used a blond female as his profile pic, and got 100's of horny guys to have online sex and send cock pics to him.

When confronted by the Catfish team and Tyler (the catfishee), he made excuses about how he has such a hard time being gay in a small town, etc. He was so not sorry -- he was full of bullshit when caught. It was also revealed that: 1) he used multiple fake profiles to play his game and 2) he got kicked out of college cause he pulled this routine on his RA and got caught.

About Nev not being nice, in one of the early episodes Max made a comment about Nev being mean/harsh to people. On a phone call to one of the catfishers, Nev had been kind of wimpy in dealing with some BS story. Max said something about it and Nev basically said, "Well I can't just be rude to someone." Max responded that he sees Nev be rude to total strangers every day. They laughed about it and dropped it but it was probably one of the more truthfully revealing moments on the show.

Nev is transparent and mean. He also forced the butch woman in the first episode to come out. The word terrorist would fit nicely here.

Max is even worse than Nev, I think. You can see him smiling whenever the 'catfish' and 'catfishee' are put on the spot. He's your typical T.V. producer.

I watched an episode without knowing anything about Nev and Max and my dvr started after what I now know is the opening explaining Nev's story. After watching the show, it was very obvious to me the story of two partnered gay men who go around the country solving crimes of identity theft. Imagine my surprise, upon learning more about them and seeing more episodes, to find that not everyone sees it that way.

Note to the production company: we don't need a scene where Max or Nev don't want to get out of bed in the morning in every single episode. Same with when they approach the catfish house and don't know which door to go to, only to have someone exit from a side door. If that's your idea of building suspense, it is stupid.

Is it just me or does Max dye his hair salt and pepper? It looks like a bad dye job, and his face looks to young for his hair.

They should add Tyler from the previous episode as Nev's second sidekick to really gay up the show. (Also, he reminded me of gay porn god, Mike Henson of "Big Guns" fame).

I have, R243. It doesn't have the drama of the first season, though. The only constant is Nev's constant touching of the male catfishees. In every episode this season, he has grabbed and rubbed their shoulders. He has even given one of them a lingering hug.

They've sucked the drama out by trying to be less "fake" and discovering the truth before they even meet. Yeah, that's more realistic, but not as fun.

A subject of MTV's "Catfish" series, Michael Fortunato, died in Hartford, Connecticut, Saturday from a pulmonary embolism, MTV News has learned. The 26-year-old New Jersey native starred in the "Ashley and Mike" episode from season two, which followed he and 20-year-old Ashley Sawyer as they met for the first time after being in a seven-year online relationship.

An autopsy has yet to be released, but Mike's younger sister, Gena, confirmed the death to MTV News Monday night. A spokesperson for the Farmington, Connecticut, chief medical examiner's office told MTV News that Fortunato died at Hartford Hospital as a result of a pulmonary embolism due to deep vein thrombosis, with other significant contributing factors including obesity and cardiomyopathy.

Oh no...that actually is very sad. Yes he was terribly overweight, but one seldom hears of a death of obesity related illnesses at 26. It just goes to show that it's never too soon to make necessary changes for the good of one's health. Poor guy.

Just saw the Seas 2 reunion show. I never got any real gay vibes from Neve, despite the overwhelming opinion here on the DL. Howver, Max always "pinged" to me.

Even though it's been dormant for a few years, I'm commenting on/bumping this thread rather than starting a new one because I'm not Hitler. And because I think the thread deserves reviving now that the show has a new permanent co-host.

I *love* Kamie Crawford, and think she was by far the best of the rotating group of guest co-hosts after Max left last year. (I didn't mind Rumer Willis, but Kamie is so much better, more grounded and more mature. Plus, she does NOT stand for B.S.)
