Patrick is a seriously underrated actor. He can sing beautifully, he is an accomplished stage actor, and he is very good on film. I am very disappointed that he has not had the absolutely stellar career he deserves. Plus he is gorgeous.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | November 1, 2012 1:28 AM |
In a few more years maybe.....he is still kind of young to have a son who is getting married.
I doubt they'll make a movie version.....they already had Birdcage.
Pretty much anybody can do movie musicals nowadays what with autotuning. (although I'm still baffled why they couldn't fix pIERCE bORSNAN IN mAMA mIA.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | November 1, 2012 1:31 AM |
I'd go with Mario Cantone.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | November 1, 2012 1:45 AM |
I didn't even know Patrick Wilson was a singer until I heard him on a Christmas album with Mary McBride - "Do You Hear What I Hear?"
by Anonymous | reply 4 | November 1, 2012 2:07 AM |
oh I thought op meant the other guy (the part Kelsey Grammar played) I think he could do that when he's older.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | November 1, 2012 2:22 AM |
What about his body would make him a good or bad choice?
by Anonymous | reply 6 | November 1, 2012 5:30 PM |
Any other opinions?
by Anonymous | reply 7 | November 2, 2012 12:05 AM |
Up.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | November 3, 2012 1:24 AM |
La Cage is a shitty musical, why we would we want a movie of it? And Wilson though very talented is wrong for either leading role.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | November 3, 2012 1:56 AM |
Up.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | November 24, 2012 2:25 AM |
R3, why? He's not even a one-note actor, he's a half-note actor.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | November 24, 2012 2:35 AM |
Someone wrote this on the current Patrick Wilson thread, "He was born to play Zaza in the movie-musical version of La Cage aux Folles. Maybe someone will read this and cast him."
by Anonymous | reply 12 | February 21, 2013 3:24 AM |
I second it. He would be terrific in the role.
He can sing.
And it would show he's got range.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | February 21, 2013 3:37 AM |
No, Patrick Wilson has zero star power. he's beautiful and he has a lovely voice, but he is a vacuum on the screen. It's not his fault, but there you go.
Weirdly enough, Travolta could do it, had he not already shot his drag wad with "Hairspray" (which he did poorly by insisting on treating Edna Turnblad like she had been created by Anton Chekhov rather than John Waters).
by Anonymous | reply 14 | February 21, 2013 3:37 AM |
Great idea.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | March 3, 2013 2:10 PM |
no
by Anonymous | reply 16 | March 3, 2013 2:25 PM |
This could revive Patrick's career.
It would be a perfect pairing with Hugh Jackman as Georges.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | March 3, 2013 4:22 PM |
Patrick may not be as beautiful as Cillian Murphy, but I'll still be waiting at the stage door for "her" with my van.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | March 3, 2013 6:18 PM |
Physically, why would he be good for this role?
by Anonymous | reply 19 | March 3, 2013 6:20 PM |
He's got a pretty face even without makeup and wig.
If he does aerobic exercises and holds off working those pecs and biceps, he could look okay in dresses and gowns.
And he's got great long legs!
by Anonymous | reply 20 | March 3, 2013 7:02 PM |
I think Patrick Wilson is secure enough in his hetero masculinity that he wouldn't even mind passing as a woman if he could.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | March 3, 2013 8:19 PM |
Hope a Hollywood producer and director read this thread and hire Patrick Wilson for this role.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | March 27, 2013 3:32 PM |
"Patrick Wilson is going to be signing autographs and having his pic taken with fans at the Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS on 9/22 in Times Square. from 10-7"
by Anonymous | reply 23 | September 14, 2013 7:52 PM |
Now that Patrick Wilson has had some box office hits. maybe producers can use his bankability and star him in La Cage Aux Folles as Zaza.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | September 28, 2013 12:54 PM |
I like Patrick Wilson, but his forte is angst-filled WASPs. That just doesn't seem the right approach for Zaza.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | September 28, 2013 1:34 PM |
I agree with 14
by Anonymous | reply 26 | September 28, 2013 1:44 PM |
However, Patrick Wilson is becoming the right age for Zaza and has a good singing voice. The other movie actor who could do the role is Hugh Jackman, who probably wouldn't touch it.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | September 28, 2013 2:39 PM |
They're making musical movies of old Stephen Sondheim musicals, why not -- finally -- the MOVIE musical version of La CAGE AUX FOLLES.
And, yes, Patrick Wilson will be perfect as Albin/Zaza. (And, by the time it's filmed -- just the right age.)
by Anonymous | reply 28 | October 27, 2013 1:33 PM |
That part would be a big boost to Patrick's career -- especially since he's straight.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | October 27, 2013 4:11 PM |
No, he would be a better George. That's the charisma free role.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | October 27, 2013 4:25 PM |
And that's why for his career, Patrick needs the more flamboyant role -- especially if he could look fairly attractive in drag.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | October 27, 2013 6:07 PM |
This thread is so weird to me. I have loved Wilson in a lot of things, but I don't know that he's ever given any indication that he's capable of the kind of bigness and flamboyance that Albin requires. (I don't even necessarily mean "flamboyance" in the gay sense - although Albin certainly has that - more in terms of size and heightened-ness.)
George Hearn may never have played a gay role in his career before Albin (I don't know for sure), but you could see from other things he'd done like SWEENEY TODD that he was capable of that kind of heightened over-the-top-ness.
This would be such a huge change from anything Wilson has ever done that I don't know why people would even think of him for this, except for the fact that he's a great singer and maybe because DL thinks he has a womanly ass?
by Anonymous | reply 32 | October 27, 2013 7:29 PM |
The OP is doing an Eddie Murphy parody.
Patrick Wilson was great in Angels in America, but fabbbbbulous is not in his wheelhouse.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | October 27, 2013 7:49 PM |
I'd like to hear Anthony Warlow sing it, even if he's more of a George.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | October 27, 2013 7:49 PM |
You know they say, the best of times is now. "They" should get moving in this.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | October 27, 2013 8:05 PM |
Zaza/Albin would be a big stretch for Patrick.
And if he pulls it off, maybe he can follow Hugh Jackman with an Oscar nomination. He's got a good voice. He's a good-looking guy and personable, but has NO edge.
This role could make him.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | October 27, 2013 9:46 PM |
It would also be a nice tribute to Jerry Herman to film the MUSICAL movie version of La Cage Aux Folles during his lifetime!
by Anonymous | reply 37 | October 27, 2013 10:06 PM |
The Birdcage is better. What would be the point?
by Anonymous | reply 38 | October 27, 2013 10:09 PM |
The music of La Gage aux Folles is great.
"I Am What I Am" is almost an anthem of the Gay Rights movement.
The movie SHOULD be made for many reasons.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | October 27, 2013 10:14 PM |
Physically why would he be suited for the role?
by Anonymous | reply 40 | October 27, 2013 10:33 PM |
The main physical suitability is that OP wants to jerk off to Patrick Wilson in a dress.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | October 27, 2013 10:36 PM |
Not true.
OP probably wants to jerk off to Patrick Wilson in full drag -- heels, shaved legs, pantyhose, makeup and a good wig.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | October 27, 2013 10:39 PM |
Why would people want to jerk off to a guy in drag? After all, drag is for exaggerated comedic value not sexual attractiveness.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | October 27, 2013 10:52 PM |
I'm [R. 43}, not OP.
I have no idea why anyone jerks off to anything from foot fetish to the female breasts.
However, I feel as if I'm not one to judge. Whatever makes someone happy, without hurting anyone else is, okay by me.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | October 27, 2013 10:55 PM |
I've had many handsome straight guys jerk off when seeing my feminine beautify.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | October 27, 2013 11:05 PM |
Great casting would be Patrick Wilson as Albin and Hugh Jackman as Georges.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | October 27, 2013 11:42 PM |
r46 You posted that back at r36. Are you ok?
by Anonymous | reply 47 | October 27, 2013 11:45 PM |
I think [R. 36] was referring to Hugh Jackman's Oscar-nominated performance in Les Miserables.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | October 28, 2013 12:12 AM |
I hope movie producers read DL.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | October 31, 2013 12:40 PM |
Patrick should dress in drag for Halloween today -- and use it as a screentest to play Zaza.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | October 31, 2013 3:15 PM |
Excellent idea, R50.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | October 31, 2013 7:16 PM |
And Eddie Muprhy can drive Patrick (in drag) in his van to the screentest.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | October 31, 2013 9:12 PM |
He is what he is.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | November 2, 2013 10:31 PM |
Maybe someone on DL who's good with Photoshop can doctor of photo of Patrick to see what he'd look like in drag as a woman?
by Anonymous | reply 54 | November 4, 2013 7:36 PM |
Excellent idea, R54.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | November 5, 2013 2:35 AM |
Hey, DL readers, someone please suggest Patrick Wilson to Harvey!
by Anonymous | reply 56 | November 7, 2013 2:17 PM |
Do you think Patrick Wilson would look good in drag or too comical?
by Anonymous | reply 57 | November 8, 2013 3:03 PM |
Good question, R57.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | November 9, 2013 2:27 AM |
Only his hairdresser knows for sure.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | November 9, 2013 3:59 AM |
I'm watering at the mouth already
by Anonymous | reply 60 | November 9, 2013 5:31 AM |
If Patrick were offered the role, do you think he would turn it down?
by Anonymous | reply 61 | November 9, 2013 1:30 PM |
Bump for Patricia Wilson.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | November 10, 2013 7:42 PM |
Patrick is too waspy--looking for true success in 21st Century mainstream America.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | November 10, 2013 7:52 PM |
I agree, r64.
by Anonymous | reply 64 | November 10, 2013 7:53 PM |
That's even more reason why Patrick Wilson, who might be viewed as bland and too mainstream, should take a flamboyant part like Zaza/Albin, make it his won -- and change that image!
by Anonymous | reply 65 | November 10, 2013 8:59 PM |
r66
You make it sound like he has the option. He might be able to get such a part in an indie movie, but no major movie producer/director would even have him on the list.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | November 10, 2013 9:03 PM |
Thus far no one has answered "why" he would be a good Albin/Zaza as opposed to someone else? If not Patrick, who could pull off the role and why?
by Anonymous | reply 67 | November 10, 2013 9:08 PM |
Jason Segal.
by Anonymous | reply 68 | November 10, 2013 9:13 PM |
Patrick has the voice. He's masculine but in a non-threatening way. And he's done musicals before.
The only other person I can see in the role is Hugh Jackman. And I don't think he'd touch it.
by Anonymous | reply 69 | November 10, 2013 9:14 PM |
Are guys thinking of George? He's the non-drag queen part of the couple.
by Anonymous | reply 70 | November 10, 2013 9:15 PM |
Jason Segal is too young.
How's about Patrick Wilson as Zaza and High Jackman as Georges?
by Anonymous | reply 71 | November 10, 2013 9:38 PM |
What about Colin Furth as Georges and Pierce Brosnan as Zaza?
(Too bad neither of them can cary a tune.)
by Anonymous | reply 72 | November 10, 2013 9:41 PM |
Patrick Wilson will play Zaza when you finance it, r72.
by Anonymous | reply 73 | November 10, 2013 9:41 PM |
Also Patrick Wilson is a tenor. Albin is not written for a tenor. The weight of a deep baritone voice adds so much to I Am What I Am etc.
by Anonymous | reply 74 | November 10, 2013 9:42 PM |
Jeremy Northam can sing but he's rumoured to be a homophobe.
by Anonymous | reply 75 | November 10, 2013 9:45 PM |
As for Jerry Herman, maybe he's want to depart this world with a terrific movie version of his musical with the most poignant music apropos to his life.
by Anonymous | reply 76 | November 10, 2013 10:46 PM |
r77
MAME was released in 1974.
by Anonymous | reply 77 | November 10, 2013 10:53 PM |
Maybe if Jerry Herman is a DL reader he'll ask Patrick to star in the movie musical version?
by Anonymous | reply 78 | November 11, 2013 2:19 PM |
Do you think Patrick Wilson in drag could ever pass as a woman?
by Anonymous | reply 79 | November 12, 2013 3:55 AM |
Up for an answer to R80's question.
by Anonymous | reply 80 | November 12, 2013 4:05 PM |
Patrick, if you want this role -- appear in drag somewhere and pass as a woman.
by Anonymous | reply 81 | November 13, 2013 4:04 PM |
Patrick, you in trouble, Gurl.
Stephen Moyer, Captain Von Trapp in the NBC's The Sound of Music said in an interview that he'd like to play Zaza in La Cage Aux Folles the movie.
He wants to fill your high-heel shoes!
by Anonymous | reply 82 | December 15, 2013 11:50 PM |
Patrick,
Are you trying out for the part of Zaza? You don't want the great and famous musical comedy star, Stephen Moyer, to beat you to that great movie part, do you?
So start bulking down a bit.
You were born to star as Zaza in the musical movie version of La Cage Aux Folles!
by Anonymous | reply 83 | January 14, 2014 9:02 PM |
What's "bulking down" and why was he born to play the role?
by Anonymous | reply 84 | January 14, 2014 9:10 PM |
[R. 85.] Patrick Wilson has a great voice. He's been in many broadway musicals. He's a movie star.
I'm sure he'd look beautiful in drag. However, his torso and arms are a bit too muscular. To take the part of Zaza he'd have to lay off weights and pumping iron for a while.
(I'm not R. 84, but I assume that's what he means.)
by Anonymous | reply 85 | January 14, 2014 9:59 PM |
La Cage Aux Folles can only be a movie musical in the hands of Almodovar. Gael Garthia Bernal will play Zaza and Diego Luna will play Georges (Jorge).
by Anonymous | reply 86 | January 14, 2014 10:03 PM |
What would La Cage Aux Folles look like directed by Rob Marshall?
Or Scorcese with Leo as Zaza?
by Anonymous | reply 87 | January 14, 2014 10:12 PM |
Leo is a good idea. He'd hardly have to tuck.
by Anonymous | reply 88 | January 14, 2014 10:19 PM |
Although Patrick is an excellent singer as is Hugh Jackman.
by Anonymous | reply 89 | January 14, 2014 10:47 PM |
Isn't his body wrong for the part?
by Anonymous | reply 90 | January 14, 2014 10:51 PM |
If Patrick laid off the weights for a few months, and with the right costume designer, I'm sure he would make a beautiful ZaZa.
by Anonymous | reply 91 | January 14, 2014 11:09 PM |
Patrick who?
by Anonymous | reply 92 | January 14, 2014 11:18 PM |
Bernal is too young for the part of Zaza. Patrick Wilson is barely old enough
by Anonymous | reply 93 | January 14, 2014 11:32 PM |
r94 You didn't read the signature.
by Anonymous | reply 94 | January 14, 2014 11:39 PM |
Maybe someone on DL knows how to Photoshop Patrick Wilson's head shot in drag?
by Anonymous | reply 95 | January 15, 2014 1:44 AM |
You'd better get into drag soon, Gurl, before you're passed over for the roll of Zaza in the musical movie version by Hugh Jackman.
by Anonymous | reply 96 | January 22, 2014 10:34 PM |
Has Patrick Wilson ever played a role where he was in drag?
by Anonymous | reply 97 | January 23, 2014 12:55 AM |
If he hasn't been in drag, it's about time.
by Anonymous | reply 98 | January 23, 2014 1:33 AM |
Is he the right age for this role?
by Anonymous | reply 99 | April 11, 2021 11:21 PM |
He's 47, so yes. However he would have to lose probably 20+ lbs of muscle mass, which he kept for Aquaman.
by Anonymous | reply 100 | April 12, 2021 12:35 AM |
