Princess Diana Scream

Hi, does anyone have a link to the whole video of the guys who are watching television when Princess Diana is reported dead? I'd like to send it to someone. I tried searching here and on youtube and the only thing I can find is a 6 second clip of the one guy screaming. I'd like to find the whole thing.

Thanks!

Is it this one?

That's the one.

by Anonymousreply 2December 4, 2011 2:42 PM

I love the reaction of the friend who looks like he's going to laugh after the screaming queen goes off. He has to cover his mouth. Funny.

by Anonymousreply 3December 4, 2011 2:44 PM

This is why they hate us.

by Anonymousreply 4December 4, 2011 2:51 PM

This would make a great play, ala "Boys In The Band". C'mon you Broadway queens, write it; we don't need another revival of Grease.

by Anonymousreply 5December 4, 2011 2:56 PM

Go fuck yourself R4.

by Anonymousreply 6December 4, 2011 2:57 PM

Sadly, from some of the asshole-ish comments on that YouTube video, in some cases R4 is correct. Is it really 2011 ?? Still so many creeps around.

by Anonymousreply 7December 4, 2011 3:02 PM

Thanks R1.

by Anonymousreply 8December 4, 2011 3:34 PM

I can't believe it's been almost 15 years. God, time goes by.

by Anonymousreply 9December 4, 2011 4:32 PM

How many of you did the Scream?

by Anonymousreply 10December 4, 2011 4:36 PM

r9, so true!

by Anonymousreply 11December 4, 2011 4:36 PM

For the life of me, I still don't understand why so many gay men got so worked up over her death. She was pretty but certainly not beautiful. She had no effect at all on our lives. She had no real talent.

I guess it's the soap opera-like aspects to her life.

by Anonymousreply 12December 4, 2011 4:41 PM

I Heart R12

Marry me, please!

by Anonymousreply 13December 4, 2011 4:48 PM

Why can't I have friends like this? I bet that guy squeals like a stuck pig when he's being fucked.

by Anonymousreply 14December 4, 2011 6:48 PM

Also, where is the comfort sex?

by Anonymousreply 15December 4, 2011 6:56 PM

"How many of you did the Scream?"

I did that very same night when I got a message from Bally's Vegas saying Liza had canceled for the following weekend. I screamed like a seven year old girl being stabbed.

Oh, and then Diana died.

by Anonymousreply 16December 4, 2011 7:16 PM

I love that later in the video the one who screams is being held by his friend or partner as he holds a hand over his mouth.

by Anonymousreply 17December 4, 2011 8:54 PM

LOL R16.

It's a little morbid but that video never gets old. Hahahahha

by Anonymousreply 18December 4, 2011 10:38 PM

I didn't manage to see this video the first time around, but I remember people talking about it. The guy stifling a laugh is pretty funny, but it's still a weird video in some respects - nice as a time capsule, but who's filming and why does he focus on the one really affected friend - hoping for a repeat of the scream, maybe?

by Anonymousreply 19December 5, 2011 10:22 AM

Some top-quality pearl-clutching on display in this video.

by Anonymousreply 20December 5, 2011 10:45 AM

R12 People identified with her on a number of levels.

Plus, she was well respected for doing so much charity work. She could have lived the jet set life and done nothing after leaving the Palace. But she truly cared about helping people. Hence "The People's Princess"

by Anonymousreply 21December 5, 2011 10:58 AM

AAAUUUUGGGHHHAAA!!!!

by Anonymousreply 22December 5, 2011 1:40 PM

Someone should write a play surrounding the circumstances of this video. It seems like there is a lot going on with these people, and death of Princess Di has brought the drama to a head!

by Anonymousreply 23December 5, 2011 1:49 PM

What a tremendous idea, R24.

A 'Tale of The Unexpected', maybe.

by Anonymousreply 26December 26, 2011 11:08 AM

Was it ever explained why they were sitting around playing cards and being videotaped?

by Anonymousreply 27December 26, 2011 11:32 AM

That's not the original video, it's a poor copy re-uploaded.

[quote] Is it really 2011 ?? Still so many creeps around.

Yeh...and we aint goin nowhere.

by Anonymousreply 29December 26, 2011 1:39 PM

My favorite bit (besides the scream):

Queen 1: "It has CHANGED. 'Princess Diana SERIOUSLY injured.' They've added the word 'seriously'. That's not good."

Queen 2 (off-camera): "In other words, her face got it."

by Anonymousreply 30December 26, 2011 2:21 PM

All you idiot queens laughing about her death deserve to die a slow and painful death!

by Anonymousreply 31December 26, 2011 3:22 PM

Oh, pull the stick out, R32--no one's laughing at Diana's death, merely the over-the-top and very campy YouTube video.

by Anonymousreply 32December 26, 2011 3:42 PM

R32 is my FAVORITE type of DL poster - the VOICE OF GOD THE MARY! She knows just how you deserve to die and where you deserve to suffer for all eternity because you offend her taste and discretion.

Never mind that presuming to judge in such a way - if she's a Christian - breaks the First Commandment and is a mortal sin, and - if she's gay - it breaks the commandment of camp, revealing her as a hissy cunt wearing a sauce of her own petulance-and-bile-inspired diarrhea in her foolish inability to understand absurd humor.

Thanks, Doll. But (sniff, sniff) you stink.

by Anonymousreply 33December 26, 2011 3:57 PM

r32...the posters are not making fun of Diana at all, it's the guy in the video screaming like an older woman.

by Anonymousreply 34December 26, 2011 4:14 PM

What I've always wondered, R24, is how the screaming queen reacted afterwards when he saw the video and realized his friend was struggling not to laugh at him. Possibly he took it in stride, but I suspect he was in high dudgeon. They should have taped the follow-up tears and recriminations for the sequel.

by Anonymousreply 35December 26, 2011 5:32 PM

I want to know what happened to each of these fellows in the years since and if they're still partners and friends. And screamers.

by Anonymousreply 36December 26, 2011 6:34 PM

I agree, R37. They should film a YouTube Reunion Special, where we see them today watching the original video. There should be a split screen during the moment of the scream and the stifled laugh, showing their reactions watching themselves.

by Anonymousreply 37December 26, 2011 7:00 PM

Wow, that really IS like something out of BOYS IN THE BAND. That screaming queen had advanced Leonard Frey-face. Totally terminal.

by Anonymousreply 38December 26, 2011 7:12 PM

The screamer is why they hate us.

by Anonymousreply 39December 26, 2011 7:18 PM

No one hates us, R40. But that kind of talk is why sensible people, gay or straight, hate you.

by Anonymousreply 40December 26, 2011 10:58 PM

It makes me wish there was a whole series of "Gay Reactions to Breaking World Events" videos.

I'd love to know what was said in the TV room of a NYC bathhouse while 9/11 was going on.

by Anonymousreply 41December 26, 2011 11:17 PM

Is R12 serious, or being facetious? Don't you know that Diana was the first notable public person to be seen even TOUCHING an AIDS patient?

by Anonymousreply 42December 26, 2011 11:32 PM

In metaphysical circles, Diana's energy was of the same as the Virgin Mary's. It created a psychic shockwave through this plane as well as other planes.

by Anonymousreply 43December 26, 2011 11:54 PM

R42, I remember on 9/11 a friend of mine was all over eBay because no one was remembering to bid on items. He said he made out like a bandit. He also had sex a couple times because there were so many freaked out people in those M4M chat rooms that AOL used to have.

by Anonymousreply 44December 27, 2011 3:05 AM

Classy, r45. Your friend is a real catch, uh huh!

by Anonymousreply 45December 27, 2011 7:51 PM

Thank you r43. I'm shocked at how many people don't connect her with humanizing AIDS. The early 80s were simply unimaginable. As a human, you have an obligation to try to understand that history. As a gay human, it is inexcusable for you to not educate yourself.

by Anonymousreply 46December 27, 2011 8:09 PM

r47, I guess you had to be there. I guess you had to see your dearest friends and lovers WASTING AWAY and suffering unimaginable pain in the face of a hopeless deadly pandemic, one that was met with fear and loathing, to understand the BALLS it took to stand up and show some compassion and LOVE as Diana did. Guess you had to be there. The vacuous generation of queers now have the audacity to MOCK those days? Unreal. Simply unbelievable.

r47 and r48 are hysterics. Diana's life, like her death, meant NOTHING to thinking and conscious people. Her connection to AIDS and gay people is history being misremembered. Fact.

I can't laugh cuz I too cried like a baby, when Princess Di died.

But this guy's scream is hella funny.

by Anonymousreply 56February 18, 2012 5:24 AM

A few random thoughts.

First, I just watched this again, listening to it with a headset on my laptop. I think I've suffered partial hearing loss from the scream because I forgot to turn down the volume.

Which one screamed? Never figured that one out.

Linden Soles (plastic man on CNN). That's a WEHT if ever there was one. Sort of good looking in a Madame Tussauds kind of way.

Barefoot guy. Cute. I'd do him.

Finally, on that fateful night. I was sitting for hours in a cold jacuzzi talking to a friend about his troubled relationship. Talked for hours. It was the desert in August so it actually felt refreshing. The water, not the conversation. That was exhausting.

Finally made it home, turned on CNN and learned that Diana had died. Shocking, unexpected and so sad.

Checked my voice mail. Ballys Las Vegas called. Liza has canceled for next weekend. That's when I screamed like a little girl.

I've mentioned this here before, but I still have not recovered from the cancellation.

Although I know I would probably react like the friend who instinctively laughs as I tend to laugh when I'm nervous, I love that the other friend next to him immediately comforts the screamer. And then a different friend/boyfriend holds the screamer as they sit on the couch, later in the video.

by Anonymousreply 68March 7, 2013 12:28 PM

His is the definitive expression of "clutching the pearls". He looks like he's shaking his head and mumbling, "If she doesn't make it, I-I just don't know I'm gon- whah-Uh-OHHH!!"

by Anonymousreply 112January 2, 2015 11:38 PM

She was the first well known person to touch an AIDS patient in the hospital. She was an AIDS activist in 1989, the height of the plague. With all the drama she went through in her personal life, the constant ridicule and contempt, and the tabloid fodder it all became, I will always respect her tremendously for this.

by Anonymousreply 113January 3, 2015 12:01 AM

[quote]She was the first well known person to touch an AIDS patient in the hospital.

I'm sure the doctors assured her she wouldn't catch anything

by Anonymousreply 114January 3, 2015 12:06 AM

Clearly, you don't understand the time, R114. What she did wasn't trivial. It meant alot, to alot of people.

by Anonymousreply 115January 3, 2015 12:10 AM

Diana visited AIDS patients and touched and hugged them at a time when AIDS hysteria was at its peak, gay men were pariahs and most public figures didn't want to be associated with anything involving AIDS. What Diana did at the time was not the "popular" thing to do, at all. But she didn't care about popular opinion and did the right thing. That's the one thing I also always remember about her.

by Anonymousreply 116January 3, 2015 12:14 AM

R116 most public figures didn't want to be associated with anything involving AIDS.

Why not? Wasn't it just the more bigoted and ignorant who were unsympathetic to AIDs victims and blamed gays for it?

by Anonymousreply 117January 3, 2015 12:23 AM

Actually, most people acted that way when they heard the news, Mary or not. It was surprising.

by Anonymousreply 118January 3, 2015 12:23 AM

And Diana visited those AIDS patients when the Queen had expressly forbade her to do so. It was ballsy of Di from many angles.

by Anonymousreply 119January 3, 2015 12:28 AM

Thank you, R116 (lump in my throat). R117, it's almost impossible to describe the shunning that AIDS patients endured. Not only to be sick, but on top of that to be treated like you were contagious and despicable. You really had to be there, I guess. It was a time like we've never seen since. Not to be a nick picker, but it is AIDS, not AIDs. The "S" stands for Syndrome. It is not a pluralization.

by Anonymousreply 120January 3, 2015 12:29 AM

So now, people might understand why some "dizzy queen" might scream when they heard she was killed. She helped, at a time when nobody else would, and people loved and respected her for that.

by Anonymousreply 121January 3, 2015 12:32 AM

r121 if he had just said "oh no" with great concern, no one would have a problem with it. It's the WAY he does it.

by Anonymousreply 122January 3, 2015 12:36 AM

I understand, R122. It is comical, for sure. Not trying to preach too much - just giving some additional background. It wasn't ALL about her fashion sense. :)

by Anonymousreply 123January 3, 2015 12:40 AM

We all gasped, but I guess different people handle it in different ways...

by Anonymousreply 124January 3, 2015 12:40 AM

R122 He just makes a very funny noise. Apart from that, his reaction isn't much different from the way a lot of British people reacted. I don't think he's acting silly, he just happens to be rather camp.

by Anonymousreply 125January 3, 2015 12:41 AM

Yes R121. I know for a fact the very first thought he had was 'She touched an AIDS patient. I must give a nelly scream'.

AIDS was/is horrible. She was very kind

That, in no way, takes away from the hilarity of this clip.

On a serious nite, you might want to get that lump in your throat checked out by a Dr. Could be cancer.

by Anonymousreply 126January 3, 2015 12:46 AM

If you believe that the AIDS cruelty was just the most "bigoted" reaction, google "Ryan White" and see what an entire rural town did to a teen boy who was HIV+ from a blood transfusion.

Diana will always have my heart (as will Dame Liz Taylor) for their treatment of men with AIDS when it was not only unfashionable, but unthinkable.

by Anonymousreply 136January 3, 2015 8:35 PM

[quote]Because many heterosexual teenage boys thinks homosexuality is ridiculous. Duh.

But there's nothing about homosexuality in the reaction. Are you trying to push the usual BS propaganda associating same sex attraction with effeminacy?

by Anonymousreply 137January 3, 2015 8:43 PM

This photograph of Diana shaking hands with a man who had AIDS went all over the world and was big news at the time. It was the first time a public figure was seen touching a person with AIDS and it received a tremendous amount of attention at the time.

Oh, for crying out loud. Various people already called him a "queen" in this thread. Only a very camp man would make a noise like that.

by Anonymousreply 139January 3, 2015 8:51 PM

What are you, some kind of moron r139? read r137 again.

by Anonymousreply 140January 3, 2015 8:54 PM

Please! Diana was not the first famous person to touch AIDS patients. Liz Taylor and Elizabeth Montgomery and Whoopi Goldberg did it before her.

by Anonymousreply 141January 3, 2015 8:57 PM

[quote]Are you trying to push the usual BS propaganda associating same sex attraction with effeminacy?

That's exactly what he was doing. As is r139.

by Anonymousreply 142January 3, 2015 8:58 PM

She was the most internationally recognized, thought, R141.

by Anonymousreply 143January 3, 2015 9:02 PM

Liz was an international star as far back as the '50s, before Diana was even born. She may not have been a movie star by the '80s, but she was still pretty iconic and a living legend.

by Anonymousreply 144January 3, 2015 9:06 PM

Boy, that creature who started posting at R108 and culminated in R139 sure can't stop the shit, can she?

Her interpretations of history, her understanding of gay-male actions and her horrible comments about not wanting anyone recording her - him, excuse me, as I see it was once a little boy - all show not only a shallow and busy-mouthed nitwit, but one whose mouth cannot quiet itself.

No - Not only a "very camp man" would make that noise. No - projecting your stupidity on teenage boys doesn't reflect cognizance of teenage boys - but it's your apparent need to bring it up irrelevantly that causes offense. No - you don't know how British people reacted the moment they heard the news. No - you don't know what "camp" means.

No - you aren't as smart as you think you are. Shut up unless you want to continue to negatively entertain with your shit. And, of course, we know you do and assume you will. You're that kind of asshole, aren't you, asshole?

by Anonymousreply 145January 3, 2015 9:06 PM

Note, too, that the smirker also was overtaken in the moment, and the smirk - from the fellow who announced the death to the group - was as much caught with the heightened emotion as tickled by the outburst of his friend. The smirker immediately became solemn and his eyes teared, after covering his face. It was just a big night for them all - with a camera running.

But "the Princess Diana Scream" is a wonderful term!

by Anonymousreply 146January 3, 2015 9:09 PM

[quote]her horrible comments about not wanting anyone recording her - him, excuse me, as I see it was once a little boy

R109 was just a joke. Notice it's by "Charles" ie. Prince Charles, whose great-grandmother was Queen Mary. Now do you understand?

[quote]No - Not only a "very camp man" would make that noise.

Who else would, a woman with a very deep voice? OK, maybe it's possible a straight man could make such a noise, but only if, say, he got his balls caught on barbed wire.

[quote]No - you don't know how British people reacted the moment they heard the news.

Well I am British and I can remember when it happened.

[quote]No - you don't know what "camp" means.

I don't? So what does it mean?

by Anonymousreply 147January 3, 2015 9:17 PM

[quote]OK, maybe it's possible a straight man could make such a noise, but only if, say, he got his balls caught on barbed wire.

Here we go with more attempts to equate same-sex attraction with embarrassing prissiness. You really are on a mission aren't you?

by Anonymousreply 148January 3, 2015 9:23 PM

R148 When did I claim ALL gay men are like the man in the video? I know they're not all like that, but SOME ARE! OK?

by Anonymousreply 149January 3, 2015 9:27 PM

[quote]The smirker immediately became solemn and his eyes teared, after covering his face.

He didn't tear up and he didn't cover his face. He brought his fist to his mouth after smirking if only to stifle a laugh.

by Anonymousreply 150January 3, 2015 9:28 PM

[quote]When did I claim ALL gay men are like the man in the video? I know they're not all like that, but SOME ARE! OK?

Not OK. Your very clear point was that ONLY a gay guy would do that. You made it absolutely clear in r148's quote that a straight guy wouldn't do it.

by Anonymousreply 151January 3, 2015 9:35 PM

I can't imagine a straight man screaming like that over the death of someone he's never met.

Not saying it couldn't happen, just that I can't imagine it.

by Anonymousreply 152January 3, 2015 10:00 PM

r152, the correct answer is:

An effeminate straight man, yes. An effeminate gay man yes.

A normal gay or straight man, no.

by Anonymousreply 153January 3, 2015 10:07 PM

When have you ever seen an effeminate straight man?

by Anonymousreply 154January 3, 2015 10:11 PM

All the time r154. But your agenda of trying to link effeminacy with same sex attraction would lead you to lie and claim they're gay.

by Anonymousreply 155January 3, 2015 10:14 PM

Oh come on people, trannies and effeminates and such are neither gay nor straight. The go in the gender disordered category.

by Anonymousreply 156January 3, 2015 10:18 PM

R156 We're not talking about trannies.

I once had an online exchange with the guy who filmed this. Very sweet...and naive.

I think he was totally surprised that he got a ton of homophobic messages.

by Anonymousreply 160January 4, 2015 1:27 AM

Diana was the most beloved human being in the history of mankind!

by Anonymousreply 161January 4, 2015 2:37 AM

I don't think he screamed for the camera. I think they were all sitting around playing cards and the camera was there. The TV was on and when CNN announced Diana had been in a car accident, the camera man grabbed the video and started taping the reactions. It happens all of the time now (look thru FB or instagram).

The guy was trying to catch his friend's reactions to the news. And did he! The Scream heard 'round the world!

by Anonymousreply 162January 4, 2015 3:03 AM

This is the greatest thing since the wheel. I laugh every time I watch it.

by Anonymousreply 163January 4, 2015 10:49 AM

Can you believe it's getting close to 20 YEARS since Diana died? It just doesn't seem possible that so much time has passed.

by Anonymousreply 164January 25, 2015 4:45 AM

R162 But back then it would have been more unusual. The internet was in its early days, there was no Youtube, uploading/downloading a video of that length would have been less than convenient.

I'm not suggesting it's fake at all, it's just funny how they decided to film it (they didn't know she was dead at first) and the cameraman didn't suddenly turn to look at the TV at the "Princess Diana dead" moment.

by Anonymousreply 165January 25, 2015 11:25 AM

Please, R165, they were auditioning for bit parts in the Lifetime made for TV movie!

I'm surprised Law and Order: Criminal Intent didn't do a "Ripped from the Headlines" episode playing up the murder conspiracy theory. Maybe they did, and I missed it. Whatever.......

by Anonymousreply 166January 25, 2015 12:00 PM

They were just filming the get together.

I used to do this in the early days of video cams and that's what he was doing and then suddenly things started to happen.

I wonder what the screamer is doing today. Was he aware that he became something of an internet celebrity? has he been forever ashamed? did he take his show on the road?

all these questions!

by Anonymousreply 171February 1, 2015 7:58 PM

OOPs, sorry about the creepy eyes I posted @ 170...it was meant for the other royal thread.

by Anonymousreply 173February 1, 2015 8:04 PM

"The sky was so blue that day"

and

"earrings. caftans"

LOL

by Anonymousreply 174February 2, 2015 1:58 AM

I remember distinctly putting my hand over my mouth like people do when they hear something shocking.

It was a very, very sad thing.

by Anonymousreply 175February 2, 2015 2:03 AM

I remember someone in the youtube comments at one time claimed to know who these guys were and if I recall they even named the screamer and was defending him, but those comments don't seem to be around anymore. I guess it was the original youtube video that was taken down.

r190 You're still alive? Good for you! I think I might have actually seen your thread when I first stumbled onto DL around that time. How time flies.

But the original thread is from 2007? I thought this was a DL thing way before that. Though of course, YouTube only started in 2005 and in the following years, people quickly started digitizing and uploading all sorts of crap to it from their video recorders, including this gem.

by Anonymousreply 191May 28, 2018 1:19 PM

I love the guy who pointed it out, covering his mouth to hide his laughter right after the scream.

by Anonymousreply 192May 28, 2018 1:30 PM

I believe that the guy who screamed - clearly trying to say "Oh my God!" - expected the same type of reaction from everyone else sitting at the table and in mid-Oh my God! he realizes he is the only one giving a big verbal reaction so his "Oh my God!" falters, like a diver losing their confidence in mid-dive.

I felt bad after watching the full video, though, the guy who screamed was upset by the news.

That Mitchell and Webb Look - "Diana Assassination" (my God these two are hilarious.)

by Anonymousreply 194May 28, 2018 4:57 PM

That and the video that plays it over and over again.

Can someone PLEASE explain the science behind this that makes this scream so damned funny? It doesn't matter what mood I'm in, it never fails to make me laugh so hard. (And, no, Princess Diana's death, the circumstances surrounding her death and the people who were hurt by her passing is not the punchline for me.)

It is too bad that these guys did not do a 20 year reunion, during the time when all of the tributes and documentaries about Princess Diana were being televised. I'd love to know how they're doing.

by Anonymousreply 195May 28, 2018 9:26 PM

I can only hope that the guys from the video are aware of what a valuable contribution the video has made to society at large.

by Anonymousreply 196May 28, 2018 9:39 PM

They should've gotten their own reality show.

Not everything is scientific. Some things just are.

by Anonymousreply 198July 17, 2020 9:34 PM

You have to wonder if the guy who screamed and the guy who sits next to him on the loveseat are still together.

One of them has to post here. My vote's on the guy who surpasses his laughter. Find him! Get him to talk!

by Anonymousreply 201August 31, 2020 9:39 PM

I got a good laugh at R171. I pictured him opening for Yoko at some out of the way bookstore in Kokomo, IN. He walks out, clears his throat, does his scream, clutches his imaginary pearls and exits the stage area. He goes to the back room, says goodbye to Yoko, collects his appearance fee in cash and goes outside and gets in his Miata and drives of to the next show.

by Anonymousreply 202August 31, 2020 9:47 PM

I did the scream but it wasn't about Princess Diana, it was about Faye and Tea at Five.

by Anonymousreply 203August 31, 2020 10:06 PM

Well?

by Anonymousreply 208February 17, 2021 5:55 PM

[quote]Can someone PLEASE explain the science behind this that makes this scream so damned funny?

Not science just my opinion, but:

Because most gay men can relate to this on some level; we see ourselves in the screamer or (more likely, knowing this group) or in the guy who suppressed his laugh. These guys are relatable to us. We know guys like them. We know them. We are them.

And even that one queen couldn't stop himself from laughing, and he wasn't 25 years later watching a video, it was real life and present moment for him, but he still saw the humor in it. Trauma and humor often go hand in hand.
