I heard this the other day and it reminded me of the romantic songs you used to hear, all the time on the radio, driving along in the 1970s.
Not as slushy and overly dramatic as they became in the '80s (all those held notes).

The Carpenters version of "Superstar" is very melancholy and romantic all at the same time.
The late Karen Carpenter did it in one take and was barely 21 years old at the time to boot.

How is Superstar romantic? It's about a groupie who falls in love with a rock star after he fucks her, and then he blows her off.

R4 Sometimes romanticism can be found in such things as the vocal delivery the late Karen Carpenter brought to that very melancholy rendition of "Superstar."
Romance, or what one perceives to be romance, is not always pretty.
I am weird.

I don't know if anyone will find this as interesting as I do.
Yesterday I got hooked on one of the songs posted here and kept playing the YouTube clip over and over. I still had the window open on my computer today so I decided to refresh and note the difference in the number of 'views.' It was just out of my curiosity over how many people read posts on DL and click on the YouTube links.
The number went from 434,977 to 436,737 in a span of a little more than 24 hours. That's approximately 1800 hits. And if I correctly understand how YouTube counts it (I might be wrong about this), that is new/unique hits meaning that if the same IP address views it multiple times, it only counts as one view.
It's certainly not scientific as some of the other views were non-DL readers, but I'm still impressed that the count is that high. I was seriously thinking that only a couple of dozen people read these threads.
Thanks for your attention. I'll go back to my song now.

I guess this is a bump...
Something got this song in my head this morning and since I didn't know it well, I looked it up on YouTube.
I don't know much about Rod Stewart except for being familiar with a few of his records. I didn't realize that he's a song writer as well as a performer which makes me more interested in him as an artist.
Here the lyrics tell a story and I respect songs that don't just repeat simple lines over and over. Apparently he wrote this after splitting with his wife Britt Ekland (at least according to something I read online). It's kind of a sad song, but it's also clearly a message to someone he loves a lot, so I thought about this dormant thread.

& nice to see it again...I'm THE OP!
I just looked at the first page so far. I love when people get the decade wrong and post things from the 60s and 80s. It's sort of clumsy, but in a sweet way.
But it's slightly annoying when the same person multi-posts..."here's fifteen songs I like!" These threads work best when you get posts from all different people.
Anyway...back to the topic.

Cannot find it on You Tube, but the old Kenny Welsh song "Since I Fell" sung by Streisand in the early 70s is a scorcher.
Another old song "Please Come to Boston" makes me all ready- dunno the artist.
"Both sides Now" is not really a love song but a reflection on life's meaning or reason. One of the greatest songs of the past 50 years to be certain- and as sung by Joni in her maturity- quite something. I could never fathom her writing this in her early 20s- a great artist.

A third vote for McCartney's Maybe I'm Amazed. Most everything he did post-Beatles was dreck imo, but this is a strong song. Romantic without being sappy; you can feel the contentment he found with Linda in every note. The live version is esp good.
Who posted Roger Voudouris? great tune! Summer of '79 baby. He was actually kinda hot in an Andy Gibb-ish kind of way. Same hair, styling (but better voice and stage presence).
