Blind Item: Eldergay Singer
"This elderly singer who was a sex symbol in the '60s and early '70s used to pay for sex acts with men so he could be discreet about his sexuality. As he is getting older and dealing with health issues, he finally came out to his wife a few months ago. The wife claimed she has known their entire marriage and agreed to stay because she claimed that she still loves him and always has, and claims she'll be his best friend for as long as they live."
My first thought was Sedaka, but was he ever considered a "sex symbol"?
|by Anonymous||reply 196||03/06/2014|
Tom Jones? Engelbert Humperdink?
|by Anonymous||reply 1||10/12/2011|
Neil Sedaka...Nope! Gay as paint but never was a sex symbol and he also goes back to the 1950's.
I go with Tom Jones.
|by Anonymous||reply 2||10/12/2011|
My first thought was Sedaka...
I can honestly say that my first thought to any matter or question has never once been "Sedaka."
|by Anonymous||reply 5||10/12/2011|
Wayne Newton always look a butch lesbian.
|by Anonymous||reply 6||10/12/2011|
Mick Jagger never paid young men for sex. He got it for free. He was very much bisexual when he was younger.
|by Anonymous||reply 11||10/12/2011|
I'm going with Tom Jones, also. He's been married to the same woman for 40+ years. He was HOT back in the day!
|by Anonymous||reply 14||10/12/2011|
Yup. Tom Jones owns this thread.
|by Anonymous||reply 16||10/12/2011|
No mention of health issues, but lots of mentions of heterosexual dalliances and current performances on wikipedia for Tom, though.
It would be ironic if it was Englebert. My mother loved him and had a huge poster on the door to the attic next to her vanity.
|by Anonymous||reply 18||10/12/2011|
I thought of Sherman and Humperdinck, in that order. Jones has admitted bisexuality in the past, so he's out.
And Sedaka's wife has always known, by way of the horse's mouth. He told her way back in the late sixties, to which she - quite the Hollywood Wife even back then - responded "as long as you don't embarass me in public." - which he hasn't.
I know Sedaka's agent - and rentboy procurer - from the 70's (now an oldies show promoter/producer).
|by Anonymous||reply 19||10/12/2011|
It would be ironic if it was Englebert.
I know, right?
|by Anonymous||reply 21||10/12/2011|
Englebert seems to still be performing and also had an illegitimate child...
|by Anonymous||reply 22||10/12/2011|
Gordon Lightfoot is dead.......
|by Anonymous||reply 23||10/12/2011|
Tom Jones. I was having dinner with someone who worked at a hotel he was staying in a long time ago. She said she had to go up to his suite and he was having an orgy. All male. I also heard he and Elvis were an item at one time.
|by Anonymous||reply 24||10/12/2011|
Vinton was never a sex symbol. Tom Jones had a health scare a couple of months ago. But I always thought he tended to cheat on his wife with women of colour.
|by Anonymous||reply 26||10/12/2011|
R26, the Polish fat broads in my neighborhood used to cream their double knit suits for Bobby Vinton.
One of my mom's hair stylists - the one she went to when she couldn't get an appointment elsewhere - was the president of his fan club.
I guess Steve&Edie are out.
|by Anonymous||reply 27||10/12/2011|
Like someone mentioned, Tom Jones acknowledged bisexual behavior eons ago. Sounds like the Eldergay just came out to his wife, TJ's wife would have known when he mentioned it publically.
|by Anonymous||reply 28||10/12/2011|
I also heard he and Elvis were an item at one time.
Doubtful. Elvis was a major homophobe.
|by Anonymous||reply 29||10/12/2011|
"My first thought was Sedaka, but was he ever considered a "sex symbol"? "
Sex symbol? Even I am hearing laughter in the rain over that one.
|by Anonymous||reply 31||10/12/2011|
Elvis was a major homophobe
One who received gay favors on the DL, like a lot of hard-core homophobes often do, only to then condemn and protect their images.
|by Anonymous||reply 32||10/12/2011|
I was going to post David Bowie
|by Anonymous||reply 33||10/12/2011|
Scratch a homophobe R29. Google Elvis and Tom Jones and look at the images. Also Nick Adams. Women were accessories. His early relationships were mostly chaste. Later drugs made him chaste. Lots of stories about Elvis and guys. Even Jones himself mentioned Elvis used to check him out in the shower. What they were doing together in a shower, I don't know.
|by Anonymous||reply 34||10/12/2011|
I'm not sure about Tom Jones being the singer. The actress who plays the character "Elvira" was on Howard Stern a few years ago and related a story how she started out as a teen showgirl in Vegas. One day, Tom Jones asked her on a date and basically raped her (she said she was a virgin when he did this).
She also said she heard from other showgirls that Tom had a rep for cutting a swath through young females while performing in the NV clubs.
|by Anonymous||reply 35||10/12/2011|
R32 is, of course, correct; I heard about it too. Elvis received gay favors behind a Missouri Burger King in the early 80s, than was filmed condemning and protecting in Kalamazoo in 92.
|by Anonymous||reply 36||10/12/2011|
Gordon Lightfoot is not dead...just Canadian.
|by Anonymous||reply 38||10/12/2011|
Didn't someone here claim that they tricked with Bobby Sherman?
|by Anonymous||reply 39||10/12/2011|
Gordon Lightfoot is about as gay as Neil Young.
It's Neil Sedaka.
|by Anonymous||reply 40||10/12/2011|
Link to the Tom Jones bisexual revelations, please
|by Anonymous||reply 41||10/12/2011|
Sedaka was NEVER a sex symbol...
|by Anonymous||reply 42||10/12/2011|
Could it be pierced nippled Robin Gibb? He's very camp and isn't his wife bisexual?
|by Anonymous||reply 43||10/12/2011|
BTW I love Johnny Mathis - Am I abnormal for a lesbian?
|by Anonymous||reply 44||10/12/2011|
Robin Gibb was not a sex symbol either, good GOD woman!!
|by Anonymous||reply 45||10/12/2011|
Neil Sedaka was never a sex symbol. Good GOD woman! I think it's Tom, didn't someone on here say he had sex with Tom Jones in an airport somewhere?
|by Anonymous||reply 47||10/12/2011|
But surely if it were Tom they would have said the person was a sex symbol THROUGHOUT the 70's as this was the height of his fame in the US(?) Also, he's had too many women to suddenly turn 100% gay. It sounds to me like we need to identify a singer who has been (seemingly) faithful to the wife.... like..... I dunno, Cat Stevens? Bob Dylan? Roger Daltry?
(Robin Gibb is sooooo camp; admit it!)
|by Anonymous||reply 48||10/12/2011|
Oh dear. Visit www.johnnymathis and goto the Backstage page. He has a bloke working for him called - I shit you not - Rick Shaw.
Some parents huh....
|by Anonymous||reply 49||10/12/2011|
Was Neil Diamond a sex symbol? He had a great face and was quite handsome in his youth.
|by Anonymous||reply 50||10/12/2011|
It's not Roger Daltrey. He and his wife had an understanding: she provided children and spent her life caring for them and for Daltrey, and he could fuck any woman he wanted. He's talked openly about it, saying, "Going on tour was like being a kid in a candy store. I couldn't say no, and told my wife so. She's a saint; she understood and went along with it."
Also, a groupie's memoir talked about this transvestite the groupie met who was very beautiful. The Who were in town and the groupie phoned up Daltrey and told him about her gorgeous friend who wanted to meet him. Daltrey talked to the tranny and made a date. At the last minute, the groupie and the tranny chickened out, afraid that Daltrey might get violent when he made the discovery.
|by Anonymous||reply 51||10/12/2011|
Oh , and Daltrey has a shitload of illegitimate kids he's paid for.
|by Anonymous||reply 52||10/12/2011|
Please don't let it be DAVEY JONES!!!
|by Anonymous||reply 53||10/12/2011|
Andy Williams? Is he still alive? Or how about Stevie Wonder?
|by Anonymous||reply 55||10/12/2011|
What part of "sex symbol" do you not understand?
|by Anonymous||reply 57||10/12/2011|
And I thought this BI would be easy, lol.
|by Anonymous||reply 62||10/12/2011|
It was Bobby Sherman. Actually, he was just some hot guy on a beach when Sal Mineo started him on his career (after buttfucking him). This is from the Sal Mineo biography that recently came out.
|by Anonymous||reply 65||10/12/2011|
I've always considered Justin Bieber the 21st century Bobby Sherman, especially when you consider who Bieber's "mentor" is: Usher.
|by Anonymous||reply 66||10/12/2011|
R41 ... here is a nice string of photographs taken of Elvis and Tom Jones with some other folks. Tom and Elvis stayed friends until his death.
|by Anonymous||reply 67||10/12/2011|
It's not Bobby Sherman. I read the Mineo bio and Mineo's girlfriend's revelation of finding the two of them together. Sherman played him along until he found bigger fish to fry. I doubt he's about to come out of the closet.
|by Anonymous||reply 68||10/12/2011|
It doesn't seem Bobby Sherman has been married since 1979.
|by Anonymous||reply 69||10/12/2011|
One of the Guess Who, Grass Roots or Three Dog Night.
Crosby, Stills or Nash
|by Anonymous||reply 70||10/12/2011|
It's probably someone out of left field like Ed Ames, the guy who same "My Cup Runneth Over with Love".
I hope it is Andy Williams because I think he was the symbol of all-american wholesome music back then, and wasn't bad looking.
Or, perhaps it was the pious boy for all ages, Pat Boone.
I thought Wayne Newton really was a Lesbian. You mean, she was actually a guy? With THAT VOICE? Dunka shane, darlin, dunka shane...
|by Anonymous||reply 72||10/12/2011|
R70, are you blind by any chance?
|by Anonymous||reply 73||10/12/2011|
R70, you list contains some of the most ugly gross singers from the 70's. However, not knowing him, I did a YOUTUBE search on Gary Puckett, and he was pretty hot back then. Was he a household name though?
Maybe it was Freddy and the Freeloaders. "Do the Freddy!"
(I'm having fun on YOUTUBE discovering all these 60's and 70's singers - pretty amusing at times).
|by Anonymous||reply 74||10/12/2011|
Gary Puckett - really good voice, handsome face (if you take away the 60's Planet of the Apes haircut).
|by Anonymous||reply 76||10/12/2011|
My vote is for Engelbert Humperdink. He has to be gay! And he was a huge sex symbol. my mother LOVED him.
|by Anonymous||reply 78||10/12/2011|
glen campbell fits the criterion and his illness is widely reported.
|by Anonymous||reply 79||10/12/2011|
What about Freddie Fender?
|by Anonymous||reply 80||10/12/2011|
Was Lyle Whatshisname from The Carol Burnett Show a singer?
I don't think Glen Campbell was a sex symbol. He was a cornfed good old boy.
|by Anonymous||reply 85||10/12/2011|
What's with Elvira? I saw her on a groupie documentary and she told a story of being a little virgin nearly trapped in a bedroom with a horny Jimmy Page. Either she's leaving out details or she was a teenage, cock tease extraordinaire.
|by Anonymous||reply 86||10/12/2011|
Elvira is a well known slut, she use to do three ways with Elvis and Priscilla back in the day.
|by Anonymous||reply 87||10/12/2011|
I read this a long time ago, so I'm not 100% sure of the source -- it was either in Priscilla's [italic]Elvis and Me[/italic] or [italic]Elvis: What Happened?,[/italic] the tell-all by a guy in his entourage that came out just after he died. One of them had a mention of Elvis freaking out during filming for one of his musicals ([italic]Blue Hawaii[/italic]?) when a male dancer tried to grab his crotch on the sly.
|by Anonymous||reply 91||10/12/2011|
That doesn't prove that he was homophobic, r91 - maybe he just didn't like getting sexually harassed.
|by Anonymous||reply 92||10/12/2011|
Bobby Vinton and Neil Sedaka may have been heartthrobs but calling them sex symbols would be kind of a stretch. Tom Jones and Englebert Humperdinck, though, definitely qualify as sex symbols.
Bobby Sherman may have recorded a hit single but he was better known as a TV star.
|by Anonymous||reply 93||10/12/2011|
Zamfir has been hiding in plain site!
|by Anonymous||reply 94||10/12/2011|
Well, if we're talking about a blind eldergay...I'd say Ray Charles, but he's dead.
|by Anonymous||reply 95||10/13/2011|
It's Billy "Crash" Craddock.
|by Anonymous||reply 96||10/13/2011|
evlira said t jones dick was so big he made her bleed. mmmm
|by Anonymous||reply 98||10/13/2011|
Stewart didn't really become a sex symbol until he forced his tight spandex on us in the late 70's.
Learn your music history R84. Rod the Mod was well known in the mid-sixties
|by Anonymous||reply 99||10/13/2011|
R85, you beat me to it. That is a very strong possibility because when Jack Jones was younger, in the 60's and 70's, he was very, very handsome in a Preppy way. I have read of Tom Jones being bisexual for a long time.
|by Anonymous||reply 100||10/13/2011|
Rod the Mod was well known in the mid-sixties
As a sex symbol?
The blind item clearly states the guy in question was a sex symbol in the sixties and early seventies. "Rod the Mod" was the lead singer of the Kinks and the Jeff Beck group, hardly a known entity on his own. He was mostly known for his haircut, hence the nickname, which conveyed anything but sex (and don't even bring up the Rod part, that was his name, not his dick).
His solo career began in 1969 and did not trade on sexy songs/moves until the late seventies, which hardly qualifies him as a sex symbol of the sixties and EARLY seventies.
|by Anonymous||reply 101||10/13/2011|
Sorry r102, meant to say the Ray Davies Quartet (which later became The Kinks)
|by Anonymous||reply 103||10/13/2011|
The guy in R75 sounds like Geri Jewell.
|by Anonymous||reply 105||10/13/2011|
My first thought was John Davidson.
|by Anonymous||reply 106||10/13/2011|
Elvis was definitely queer R91.
That's why they picked on him in school.
|by Anonymous||reply 107||10/13/2011|
R95, please. Ray Charles swam through pussy every day of his life. Are you just making names up, twat?
|by Anonymous||reply 108||10/13/2011|
Wasn't there a story somewhere about Jill Haworth walking in on Sal Mineo fucking Bobby Sherman?
|by Anonymous||reply 110||10/14/2011|
Tom Jones was a womanizer x 10, not gay or bi, puleeeze.
It has to be a man who has been married a long time and still is married -- not Tony Bennett, not Bobby Sherman.
|by Anonymous||reply 111||10/14/2011|
Neil Sedaka a sex symbol?
No. Not at all.
|by Anonymous||reply 113||10/14/2011|
Dick Van Dyke neither a sexy symbol or primarily a singer, although he was a song and dance man.
I think it's Steve Lawrence.
|by Anonymous||reply 114||10/14/2011|
Definitely Steve Lawrence.
It all makes sense.
The only reason the blind item didn't add - married to a famous singer or part of a famous singing team with his wife is that would make it far too obvious.
|by Anonymous||reply 115||10/14/2011|
Steve Lawrence was never a sex symbol!!
This is Tom Jones.
|by Anonymous||reply 116||10/14/2011|
Steve Lawrence was definitely NEVER a sex symbol. He was never sexy at all nor even good looking.
|by Anonymous||reply 117||10/14/2011|
You may not have found Lawrence sexy. Hell, I didn't either.
But I assure you that, like Eddie Fisher who had a similar appeal, a great many women at the time did.
|by Anonymous||reply 118||10/14/2011|
No, R118, that is not accurate.
And the blind item would never refer to Steve Lawrence as a former sex symbol.
|by Anonymous||reply 119||10/14/2011|
Tom Jones has been a notorious philaderer throughout his long marriage. With other women! Including paternity suits with DNA proving him the baby father.
Try again boys.
|by Anonymous||reply 120||10/14/2011|
Um, did anyone scroll all the way down in the pictures of R67's link?
I did not know Tom Jones and Elvis were so close... and that pic with that big ole queen Merv?
I can believe this...there's a lot of um, adoration in some of those pics.
|by Anonymous||reply 121||10/14/2011|
Dick Van Dyke became a sex symbol to the British due to his brilliant singing and authentic Cockney accent in 'Mary Poppins.'
|by Anonymous||reply 123||10/14/2011|
Paul Anka? He was very much a sex symbol in his youth and is Jason Bateman's father in law.
|by Anonymous||reply 125||10/14/2011|
Ummmm, Lucy J?
You are not funny. Someone has to tell you the truth.
Go back and retool the act. In case you haven't noticed on your own, you are not amusing anyone here.
|by Anonymous||reply 126||10/14/2011|
Btw, Glen Campbell -- another womanizer.
|by Anonymous||reply 128||10/14/2011|
Lucy J is not only not funny, but she/he is extremely annoying, boring, asinine, and inane.
|by Anonymous||reply 129||10/14/2011|
It's not: 'your a boring twat'.
you're a boring twat
you are a boring twat
|by Anonymous||reply 130||10/14/2011|
[r128] not to mention multiple marriages
|by Anonymous||reply 131||10/14/2011|
Lucy J = Thoughtfulcritic
Back again, posting with a fake identity as someone from the U.K. - but is too stupid to pull it off.
|by Anonymous||reply 134||10/14/2011|
Damn people, it's Bobby Vinton, the Polish Prince.
|by Anonymous||reply 135||10/14/2011|
I think it's Fats Domino. He used to drive the fatty chasers crazy in the 60's and I think a few of them actually died running after his car. He's not in the the best of health, but he still fat.
|by Anonymous||reply 136||10/14/2011|
R136, there are no female chubby chasers. Fats Domino = no sex symbol.
However, Chubby Checker was a lot thinner and a borderline sex symbol.
|by Anonymous||reply 137||10/14/2011|
r118, I'm 62; I was there. You're incorrect. Chubby cheeks are not nor have ever been "sexy."
|by Anonymous||reply 138||10/14/2011|
"there are no female chubby chasers"
Uh, duh, r136 was being facetious about Fats Domino being a sex symbol. (And yes there are plenty of straight women who date or marry fat guys. Something like 2/3 of straight guys are overweight)
|by Anonymous||reply 139||10/15/2011|
The answer is James Darren.
|by Anonymous||reply 140||10/15/2011|
Where are these stories about Tom Jones being bisexual? I definitley missed that one!
I also think its Engelbert. Tom is too obvious.
|by Anonymous||reply 145||10/16/2011|
It's the Jones boy. The BI never claimed he was exclusively gay so you can stop with all the "he was a notorious womanizer" protests. Many bisexuals do indulge their sexual appetites voraciously (good luck to 'em).
I dunno about Elvis but I wouldn't be surprised. He definitely had issues sexually, if the Memphis Mafia are to be believed.
Elvira said Tom was hung, R98? The rest of him looks pretty good too (see link)
|by Anonymous||reply 147||10/16/2011|
I'm not a Tom Jones fan but he's been having comebacks every few years since I was a tween. I've never read any bisexual revelations about him. And he gets a lot of newspaper coverage every time he has a comeback...
|by Anonymous||reply 148||10/16/2011|
I thought Wayne Newton really was a Lesbian. You mean, she was actually a guy? With THAT VOICE?
Listen to a song by k.d. lang and then follow with a song by Wayne Newton. Now, try to recall if they've ever been seen in the same place at the same time.
Now you know the rest of the story.
|by Anonymous||reply 149||10/16/2011|
Its Robin Gibb, Elvis used to give it to guys, new a producer who worked with him.
|by Anonymous||reply 151||11/04/2011|
Robin Gibb was never a sex symbol and always associated with a group
|by Anonymous||reply 152||11/04/2011|
[r140] yaknow It could very well be
|by Anonymous||reply 153||11/04/2011|
I just looked this up. Robin Gibb looks horrifyingly ill. Stomach blockage my ass.
I'm giving him less than 6 months.
|by Anonymous||reply 154||11/04/2011|
More on Robin Gibb:
His first marriage collapsed in the late 1970s before Gibb met bisexual Dwina. Indeed, she once said they had an ‘open relationship.’
Sorry for the dailymail link if you're inclined to be sensitive about it.
|by Anonymous||reply 155||11/04/2011|
Dwina does look like the classic hag, no?
|by Anonymous||reply 156||11/04/2011|
Engleburt Humperdinck - or however you spell it. No question about it. He was a "handsome hunk" and always pinged to me, from the beginning. As for an illegitimate child, isn't justin Beiber being sued for paternity too? Absolutely the best way to seen straight is to be sued for paternity.
|by Anonymous||reply 157||11/04/2011|
Tom JOnes. This is not new. It was on some internet site some time ago.
|by Anonymous||reply 161||12/07/2012|
Please don't let it be Davey Jones! I will cry for like two days if it is him.
|by Anonymous||reply 162||12/07/2012|
If he were still alive, I would have guessed Robert Goulet . . . what about John Davidson?
|by Anonymous||reply 163||12/07/2012|
I'm the guy who wrote about Tom Jones in the Park Lane Hotel back in 1970. I was having dinner with my cousin and his "beard," a woman who worked at the Park Lane. My cousin lived down the street in a hotel his father owned. This woman, I forget her name, let's call her Diane, told me (an out gay) that she was called up to a celebrity suite at the Park Lane one night and Tom Jones answered the door in a towel with a veritable male orgy going on behind him. I didn't believe it. "But he's married!" I said. She just snorted. My cousin chuckled and looked at me like I was naivete personnified.
BTW, TJ isn't that special down there. That's just a rumor. (Or a sock.)
|by Anonymous||reply 164||03/03/2014|
More than Tom Jones and Nick Adams, I think Jerry Schilling was Elvis' main man. Ever since he showed up to play a game of touch football when they were teens. Jerry was younger, very handsome, and devoted to Elvis. Everywhere you would expect to see Elvis with his wife (like getting his badge from Nixon) you see Jerry. If you listen to him in interviews, the lisp is quite noticeble and he pings out of the park. I believe he finally married sometime in the 80s. But if you google Jerry Schilling and Elvis Presley and look at the photos, it's obvious what they were up to.
He was Elvis' Scott Thorsen.
|by Anonymous||reply 165||03/03/2014|
Robin Gibb is dead anyway.
|by Anonymous||reply 166||03/03/2014|
BTW, TJ isn't that special down there. That's just a rumor. (Or a sock.)
How would you know R164?
|by Anonymous||reply 167||03/03/2014|
Paul Anka. A friend was a rent boy in Las Vegas.
|by Anonymous||reply 168||03/03/2014|
Did Elvis have body image issues? It occurred to me while looking at R67's link, that I've never seen Elvis' bare torso. He wore open-necked shirts or v-neck tops, but never more than that--even in the pool or Hawaii pics.
What was up with him?
|by Anonymous||reply 169||03/03/2014|
R167. Just google Tom Jones Speedo. He was average.
|by Anonymous||reply 170||03/03/2014|
Elvis had a baby bird body. No real muscle tone, given to chub. His speed use kept him thin most of the time, but he didn't work out (except for Karate) and so he was embarrassed to take off his shirt in the water.
Re the gay rumors. Remember Peggy Lipton? She was with him one night...
"In her memoir, model and actress Peggy Lipton writes that she felt trapped in Presley's bed as the star was impotent with her and she "couldn't just amble out into the next room to get a breath because all his guys were in the front of the suite gearing up for show time. I could hear their piercing laughter and loud voices against the background of the blaring TV." Buzz Cason even saw a fascinating "guest-bedroom with two-way mirrors, where the highly mischievous Memphis Mafia clowns could eavesdrop on visitors who might slip away there for a little romantic action." According to Raphael's eye-witness account, actress Natalie Wood was upset when Presley refused to have sexual intercourse with her. She made a snide remark to the members of the Memphis Mafia that she "was not the only one to think Elvis and the guys might be homosexual, especially since Elvis often wore pancake makeup and mascara offstage to accentuate his brooding intensity, à la Tony Curtis and Rudolph Valentino, his favorite movie actors."
|by Anonymous||reply 171||03/03/2014|
Could it be Fabian, my dreamboat from the 60's and 70's? He was drafted during the Vietnam Nam war but was declared 4F after showing a note from his doctor that he could have 'homosexual tendencies.' He had such a smokin' body in his Playgirl layout in 1973.
|by Anonymous||reply 173||03/03/2014|
This is the first time I've seen anything about a note from Fabian's doctor.
|by Anonymous||reply 174||03/03/2014|
Captain who is now divorcing Tennille.
|by Anonymous||reply 176||03/03/2014|
Captain wasn't a sex symbol. He was a dunce who sat at the piano wearing a hat.

Lots of guesses for the late Robin Gibb but he wasn't the sex symbol - Barry Gibb was.
Saw Barry and Robin in an documentary about the Bee Gees career and Maurice's passing and Barry was veering into high camp at times. That and the thick lacquered bouffant screamed (falsetto style) MARY!

Um ... thanks, R172. Wow.
That "Be careful what you wish for" adage is tragically true in this case.
And thanks for the (non-illustrated) info, R171!

R174 I read it on Fabian Forte's Wikipedia entry

Is this Daryl Dragon?
Yes, I know they said singer. But the whole C&T divorce thing would possibly make more sense in that context.
I also thought Mathis but I don't think she was ever in - or ever married.

If it's Tom Jones that is interesting....buth Jones and his old friend Dusty Springfield had to play straight to get that money and sell those records....though Dusty ran out of fucks to give on that front a long time ago (before she died).

R74 You created such a great visual image with your Freddy and the Freeloaders post.
The band which recorded Do The Freddy! was Freddy and the Dreamers.
Freddy the Freeloader was a popular hobo character who was a regular part of Red Skelton's comedy act and a regular on Red's weekly tv show. Maybe at some point the two acts intersected onstage, I don 't know. But the image of Freddy leading a chorus of Red Skeltons singing and doing the Freddy is pretty damned hilarious.
Gary Puckett's songs made teenage girls in my town think he was a creepy skeevy guy, so sex symbol? Not so much.

Miss John was never really in, dear. And he hasn't been married to a woman in more than 30 years.
Do catch up.
Was Neil Diamond a sex symbol? He had a great face and was quite handsome in his youth.
Absolutely a sex symbol during this era AND he had health problems back in 2008, but he wasn't married in 2011 when this BI came out. If this was a current BI, I'd say that was a good guess, since his new wife just screams beard.
Love R164's story!
"I also heard he and Elvis were an item at one time. Doubtful. Elvis was a major homophobe."
Because, as everybody knows, R29, no homophobe was ever gay.

Rod Stewart was in the Small Faces. He was not in the Kinks, but could have been in a band before the Kinks became the Kinks and hit the top 40 with the "British invasion". I imagine a lot of those guys worked together in different formulations, but the Small Faces was the band Stewart was in when he became famous and before he went solo. I was a teenage fan of all the Brit bands at the time.

What about John Davidson? He was a wholesome hottie when he was younger, and he did play a tranny on Streets of San Francisco and was doing chorus boys during State Fair.
His primary fame was as a 60s-70s pop singer.

Davidson wasn't seen as a sex symbol like Tom Jones. Women would toss their hotel room keys on state along with their panties at Jones. Davidson was just another wholesome guy like Jack Jones.
