Okay, so no model's going to date me, unless my whole "going to business school this fall" thing somehow leads me down a road to riches. I'm a whole lotta ugly, but maybe - maybe - a billion bucks is going to make up for that. Maybe I'll get my own Jeremy Lingvall. Anyways. I know there are some hotties on DL. Have any of you dated male models (you might be one yourself)? What are they (you?) like? I imagine they're pretty happy and sweet. TIA for helping me flesh out a future to which I can aspire (that is, making some money to cover up my ugly and then finding a model, following in Howard Stern's footsteps).
Dating Male Models
by Anonymous | reply 231 | December 2, 2020 10:07 PM |
Male models, at least those that I've met, are horribly insecure. Their looks are generally the only thing they have going for them, so they figure they'll cash in by modeling. The only catch is, when you're craving love and attention it isn't always a good idea to go into a field where you're constantly torn down (and only occasionally built back up).
by Anonymous | reply 1 | May 29, 2011 12:35 AM |
I've met a few male models, strippers, and porn stars in my life. It always amazes me how unhappy some of them are, and how much they criticize their own looks, like thinking how "fat" they are (as they stand there with a 28" waiste and an 8-pack abs)... they magnify every single physical flaw of theirs to outrageous proporations. It makes me wonder how they see someone like me, who is far, far from their level of attractiveness.%0D %0D I know for a fact I'd be a lot happier if I had a better body, bigger cock, etc. I don't know if I'd be objectively *happy*, but I'd sure be happier than I am now.%0D %0D I mean, I *know* why I'm insecure and have low self-esteem. ANyone can see why, in fact. I just can't fathom how these perfect physical specimines can possibly be so insecure and have low self-esteem...%0D %0D

I'm hoping that if I'm lucky enough, and make that billion, I'll have a boyfriend like this, lounging by an infinity pool, with his chest shining in the sun.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | May 29, 2011 12:46 AM |
A friend of mine dated a male model. They had an arrangement where they'd never talk about the modeling business and my friend wasn't allowed to comment about his lover's looks (good, bad, joke or serious) or it would cause a heavy argument. Of course my friend fucked it up by not being able to keep the arrangement and when the model found out how my friend bragged about his lover and even said stuff about the model and his work that wasn't true the model dumped my friend.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | May 29, 2011 12:55 AM |
Has Lingvall modelled ?
by Anonymous | reply 8 | May 29, 2011 1:24 AM |
Interesting, R7. Why the ban on discussing his career modeling or the business? Was this in NYC? How'd they meet?
by Anonymous | reply 9 | May 29, 2011 1:53 AM |
r9, it was London and the model wanted his private life to be separate from his job. My friend said that their place was the model's refuge from the soul draining modeling world. Of course after he was dumped my friend sang a different tune where the model used him to have a free place to stay, lousy lay, etc.

Was the model British, R10?
by Anonymous | reply 11 | May 29, 2011 2:12 AM |
models get insecure because they were always around regular people and felt beautiful THEN they start modelling and everyone is beautiful so they start worrying
by Anonymous | reply 12 | May 29, 2011 2:12 AM |
R10. He was from Sweden, but spoke perfect English. He was actually quite nice and sometimes spoke with an accent just as a joke. He was discovered as model while he was a foreign exchange student. Unfortunately I lost track of him since he retired.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | May 29, 2011 2:20 AM |
Sorry, he spoke perfect English without an accent, but put on a accent for his and our amusement sometimes, but you could see him shut down the moment someone tried to talk about his looks or the modeling business, he was really that touchy about these topics. Otherwise he was a really nice guy.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | May 29, 2011 2:26 AM |
I dated a male model off and on in the late 80s early 90s. He was so incredibly handsome and more thick/muscular than they are nowadays. He hustled too, because working as a waiter or retail between big accounts was not working while he established himself. He wasn't a genius, and really loved to work and enjoyed the business.
Even the year before he died of AIDS in 1995, he still got some decent editorial work. He also lived for eons, beyond the grave in the International Male catalog, modeling a fairly simple white cotton pirate shirt. He was a very busy guy, especially for an African American (pre Tyson Beckford) model.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | May 29, 2011 2:42 AM |
I was a male model in the 90's and yes, I was insecure. Now, I know my insecurity came from having a crappy childhood. Basically ignored and told I was worthless. Modeling was not something I wanted to do as a career, it was something many people said I should do and I made a lot of money. I am basically a shy person and being the center of attention is very uncomfortable to me. To be honest, when I would saw my proofs I couldn't believe it was me. Once I was shopping in a mall and I looked over and saw a very handsome guy looking at me. I realized it was a mirror. I think that was when I realized, 'Hey, I'm not so bad looking."
by Anonymous | reply 16 | May 29, 2011 2:44 AM |
... about date, I forgot, sorry. I would date basically anyone who asked. I was not a slut, mind you, just not into looks. It was kinda creepy when my dates would just stare at me and tell him I has gorgeous eyes, lips, hair, whatever. Dating was hard. I wished I was more outgoing I suppose.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | May 29, 2011 2:51 AM |
R15, it sounds like the guy you dated wasn't really a male model, just a server/bottom feeder/hustler.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | May 29, 2011 3:03 AM |
Not many people know this, but the fashion industry has been behind every major political assassination over the last two hundred years %E2%80%93 and behind every hit: a card-carrying male model.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | May 29, 2011 3:12 AM |
My first bf did some print modeling, and he was very conceited. I was still in the closet, and had so many hang-ups about being gay, being intimate, etc. When he got frustrated with me, which I'll admit was justified most of the time, he'd inevitably remind me that he could date anyone he wanted.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | May 29, 2011 3:13 AM |
Models = Pretty on the Outside, Ugly on the inside.
They don't learn the getting along with others skills the rest have to learn.

by Anonymous | reply 22 | May 29, 2011 7:03 AM |
I think you will be happier being less superficial, OP (and I say this as someone who is considered by most to be gorgeous.)
Why would your life be "better" with eye candy? Truly, your life will be best when you love yourself and know that *you* are worthy of anyone, model-looks (and what are they in terms of a good heart anyway?) or not.
I suspect you have a long therapy-filled road ahead to get to this point. But when you love yourself, and you will at some point, this kind of thing ("hot" boyfriends whose main value is their appearance) won't matter.
Just as an aside to others, not all very good-looking people have terrible personalities/brains/senses of humor. Some of us ugly-duckling types flourished late, and developed therefore empathy (I was bullied as a teenager, for example, and although I work - sometimes - as an actress and have done some modeling, I have a good grip on the most important things in life: kind lovers, good friends and family, warm laughter).
by Anonymous | reply 23 | May 29, 2011 7:17 AM |
I had a friend like you R23 (sadly, gone too soon) she was one of those girls that was just plain goofy looking. Although both of her older brothers were very attractive.
She came back to school after one summer a completely different person. Her body had developed, she grew her hair long and learned how to put on make-up. She was now a beautiful girl.
She was absolutely one of the quickest, funniest people I've ever known. She made a comment to me one time, "I've known both sides of the fence, believe me." And I think that's what made her so interesting.
So there you go OP - if you want a real hottie try to find someone who wasn't always that way. If their looks come after they've formed a personality, you get the best of both worlds.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | May 29, 2011 8:23 AM |
[quote] it sounds like the guy you dated wasn't really a male model, just a server/bottom feeder/hustler.
Yeah, except he made a good living for years at a time as a MALE MODEL. Did you miss that part in your glee to sound like an evil, non-clever, name calling jerk? He was a successful model eventually, with a huge portfolio of paid work/national ads. Why such glee in contradicting what I stated? You sound fat.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | July 1, 2011 1:52 AM |
Here's his picture. If you are over 40 or so, you might remember him in ads/editorials. He was a sweet guy.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | July 1, 2011 2:03 AM |
OP, listen to R24's advice.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | July 1, 2011 2:17 AM |
I'm not surprised that a model would be insecure. If he has any sense, he recognizes that the good fortune of having good looks has gotten him into the business, and that he is a flavor-of-the-month who could go from being hot to cold very quickly.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | July 1, 2011 4:17 AM |
Linky stinky R26.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | July 1, 2011 4:29 AM |
OP, what do you mean by "dating"? If you just want a hot model to have sex with, you don't have to be rich, you can rent one for $200. For $20 you can make out with one at a male strip bar. But if you mean you want one as a real boyfriend, then even a millon is not going to do it for you. Think of how many gay millionaires that are alone, like Richard Simmons, just as a quick example. It's different with rich straight guys and not girls.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | July 1, 2011 4:35 AM |
Geffen and Diller seem to be doing JUST FINE, R30.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | July 1, 2011 5:10 PM |
I dated an actor/model about three years ago for almost a year. He was a very talented actor and also very funny but he was mostly booked (Ford Modeling) for underwear shoots because he had an amazing body - good genes. I'm also an actor but by no means an underwear model. Good shape but not crazy.%0D %0D He was modest and I learned that GOOD models see their assets quite objectively. He surprisingly not very insecure about his looks but I was about mine being with him. I think that's kind of what blew it for us because I found it hard to believe an underwear model wanted to be with me. Too bad because he was super sweet too.%0D %0D But there were times when I got kinda bored with him and realized yes, you CAN get bored with even a gorgeous model.

by Anonymous | reply 33 | July 1, 2011 5:25 PM |
Apart from Nick Snider, there are no gay models. It seems to have the least amount of gay % than any other profession.
Very, very rare, almost impossible to hear about a gay model. The reason? Male fashion designers, who are all gay self-loathing fags like Tom Ford, D&G, refuse to hire gay models.
Then you can add to that most male models are horrible homophobes, it's not a job for gays.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | July 1, 2011 5:43 PM |
Mat Gordon is gay, too! Isn't he like within the top 50 male supermodels right now?
by Anonymous | reply 35 | July 1, 2011 6:05 PM |

A child needs a mother and a father. I could not imagine my childhood without my mother. I also believe that it is cruel to take a baby away from its mother."%0D %0D %0D Maybe he has a point.

Op (and, don't call yourself "ugly"), everyone is unique and beautiful. Anyway, I've dated hotties, and it ain't hunky dory. Many are shallow and insecure, believe it or not. Insecure people turn me off, because they are hard to deal with, and end up being heartbreakers or fatal attractions.

by Anonymous | reply 46 | July 1, 2011 9:15 PM |
I dated a model back in my 20s (the 90's - I am now 40). He was drop dead gorgeous, and charming when it suited him (though the same could be said of me, I guess). Mostly we just went out, had fun, but soon he began to lie about where he was, what he was doing, pressuring me for threesomes and such. I woke up one night in his bed to some surprise anal (seriously) only to look over and see him sitting next to the bed watching his friend fuck me. Yes, it was fun for a young guy but not something around which to build a serious relationship. Allowing his friend to mount me in my sleep was the final straw. I am not against threesomes, but the lying coupled with the obvious disrespect of allowing his friend to do that without my consent was just the breaking point.

I dated one model & one guy who wasn't a model but was so insanely gorgeous that everyone was always staring at him everywhere he went.%0D %0D My main impression of these gorgeous guys is that I felt sorry for each of them after a while. They had successful lives economically, but they had so many people trying to befriend them just because they were gorgeous that their beauty was a HUGE problem for them. It created a lot of trust issues for them, not knowing if someone was nice to them because they liked them or just lusted after them. %0D %0D I think a lot of beautiful people gain weight just to take a holiday from all the unwanted attention.

by Anonymous | reply 54 | July 2, 2011 2:56 AM |
R50 speaks the truth. A longtime friend of mine -- who isn't a model but looks like he walked straight out of a Ralph Lauren ad -- has had this problem for years. He's one of the nicest, most generous guys I know, and he's done very well for himself working in the nonprofit sphere, but he's been burned numerous times in dating by shallow guys only (or at least predominantly) interested in him due to his looks. Probably the most egregious example was a certain catty reporter who now writes for The New York Times (and who shall remain nameless) who started dating him without bothering to mention, until a number of dates in, that he was partnered, sleeping with my friend on the sly, and no longer sexually attracted to his partner only because he'd gained weight since they moved in together, which is frankly just pathetic. My friend broke it off immediately, but I can certainly see how such experiences can leave one jaded.
Although he's the closest thing to "husband material" of just about any gay guy I know, he's almost 40 (though still just as hot as ever) and hasn't ever had a relationship that lasted much more than a year. He hasn't purposely put on weight to obfuscate his looks, but he's grown out a fairly scraggly beard and wears fairly dorky glasses to try to at least partially cover his face.

i was partnered for years with a guy who was a very minor model in japan and europe for a couple years starting when he was 18 around 1988. he's american but never worked in the states. was tall and skinny when the look here was for more muscular models. %0D %0D anyway, he was insecure about his looks too and at the same time a bit obsessed about looking good. when i met him he was also gunshy about guys liking him only for his looks. he was generally a good guy, but also turned about to be nuts -- diagnosed as bipolar with all that went along with it. %0D %0D as someone who was seen as cute but not stunning, i found dating him escalated my insecurities about my looks and whether others would think he was "slumming" with me. but that's my own shit. the sex wasn't nearly as good as it one might have hoped.

I've never dated a model but I did date an actor in my 20s. He wasn't big or anything...just a few small theater productions. He was quite beautiful though. He was very into himself but he was also sweet, thoughtful and intelligent. Not some vapid bitch queen.
In the end it didn't work out because he was prone to melodramatic episodes and could never be secure in himself. He was also always comparing what other people had and was never just content.

I have a model friend who goes in and out of relationships. Always meets "the one" over and over again. Each time it ends the same way, though with the other guy getting weird and obsessed with him, and he has to let the guy go. He always laments how he hates losing this guy because the sex was so great, and he felt such 'a connection'.%0D %0D My own theory is that he keeps hooking up with guys who fall for him only due to his looks, and he's vulnerable. My friend puts a spell on these people in order to keep them coming back and keep them loyal. It never works, because if you put a spell on someone then it's a power inequality that you're starting the relationship off with. %0D %0D But what do I know, I'm the average guy he hangs out with when he wants to 'get real'.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | July 2, 2011 9:23 AM |
I used to do quite a bit of casting. Models never did it for me because I like quirky looks, and never met one with the personality to engage me. But I did have one living in the house after he split up from his girlfriend. I remember sneaking his folio with lots of half naked shots to a dinner party which created the expected shrieks: "You...YOU....are living with THIS?!!!!!!"
R34's point about the vast vast majority being straight, is actually oddly depressingly true.
In my experience the truism that you can have anyone if you really truly genuinely want them in your heart, is true.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | July 2, 2011 12:01 PM |
There are two types of male models, like the female models, High fashion models like Sean O'Pry, Noah Mills, Lenz von Johnston, Mat Gordon and more commercial models like Josh Wald, David Gandy, Tim Luebbering, Andres Velencoso Segura and Jon Kortajarena. The high fashion probably less well known (apart from O'Pry) outside the industry, but earn more and have more respect as a "model", most insiders view these high fashion models (both male and female, but especially female) as real models and they do the high fashion ads and runways.
Then there are the commercial models, who do the more high street campaigns Next rather than Dior and they tend to work for D&G and Tom Ford, which are sorta labels for WAG/Chavs with money now.
These more commercial models are usually more classically masculine, they are also almost always straight as the market they appeal to tends to be more traditional.

Dated a closeted Abercrombie model. Had unprotected sex with him the first night we hung out. Dated for about three months before I found out he was hooking up with guys on adam4adam. Stopped seeing and luckily never contracted an STD, though I was never so afraid as I was waiting to get back my test results. I learned a valuable lesson and will never be that reckless again.

In the 70s when I was in my early 20s I dated lots of models (men of course). A few became good friends. Money did nothing for me- but good looking men were catnip of course- and in those days they were men, not boys- think Marborough man etc. I was just out of college and fell into the NYC gay scene baby booming away full swing. Male models from Ford, Wilhemina, etc where the rock stars of the gay world in NYC at the time and overwhelmingly gay.%0D %0D Some were pretty screwed up, and some were not at all. Perhaps models then were a bit more insecure than, oh say, retail executives or admen. In the 70s very few people I knew when into corporate jobs, except a few lawyers who kind went the Wall Street route semi closeted. %0D %0D One of the nicest people I have known in my entire life was a Ford model by the name of Greg Bauer. He was the Taryton man back when cigarettes were advertised. I adored Greg, first as a crush, then dating him and then as a friend. He died of AIDs like so many. One of the smartest and shrewdest of people I have known was another famous model of the time, Joe McDonald. His modeling money was invested in one of the better modern art collections of his day. He too died (early) of AIDs. There are others as well who have been able to parley their early (flush) income into long-term security and businesses as older men.%0D %0D I think those who model today are quite different in part because they market has changed. But I suppose it is still about looks or a look. And when looks are the selling point, then I suppose character gets muddled a bit. But not entirely I am sure.%0D %0D I never took any of it seriously and had a pretty good head on my shoulders about people. So I just had fun with them, and even did a few lark jobs myself- or let photogs take pics of me with some of my friends. Modeling was not for me- nor have I ever particularly liked pics of myself. I don't think I have on in my home. Just my wallet.%0D

Gucci model Joao Vellutini is gay. He has worked for all the major fashion houses. He was suppose to marry a fellow male model not long ago, but they broke up shortly before.

I can't believe any male model is 100% straight. Straight guys don't obsess about their looks and clothes all day nor do they ever want to.
I do believe that some male models also like to have sex with women.

[quote]I can't believe any male model is 100% straight. Straight guys don't obsess about their looks and clothes all day nor do they ever want to.
No necessarily so. A lot of male models, especially the ones with short lived careers, are just capitalizing off the way they look when they get out of bed in the morning. They are naturally beautiful, and when their looks start to fade they're out. The ones who stay in the business longer are probably more likely to be gay.
by Anonymous | reply 105 | July 5, 2011 9:52 PM |
Jon Kortajarena is not gay, he has been dating Spanish actress Blanca Romero for the last 4 years.

There are no gay models, certainly no confirmed gay models. Justin Clynes sexuality is not know. The rumour he went to gay bars in FL when he was young are bogus. Justin is from CT.

A very ugly person can be very good-looking if they have self-esteem and self-esteem builds on the fact that you are able to do something very few people can.
So yes there is a possibility that you will be in a position to date models.

I wonder how this thread would be different if we separated the term Gay into:
1. Has sex with guys OR
2. Is romantically involved with guys.

About six years ago, I was picked up at a local Blockbuster by a guy who turned out to be an underwear model. He was blond, gorgeous and had the most incredible bod I've ever seen. It had been a while since I had sex and let me tell you--oh my--that made up for lost time. He was younger than me--and had lots of stamina. It was a summer fling. He had lots of lovers here and there.
Oh--he was also Swiss and he claimed he was interested in going to business school after his modeling career was over.

R107, Wasn't there a rumor a few years ago about Justin Clynes and DL favorite Jake Gyllenhaal?
by Anonymous | reply 114 | July 6, 2011 4:04 PM |
Sadly R14, that was just a bogus bi from some blog.
I doubt Jake is gay anyway. Most people assumed Justin was gay after a comment on a blog mentioned he was from Florida and they thought they saw a skinny younger him at the gay bars down there. However Justin is actually from New Haven in Connecticut and came straight to NY from there, he never lived in Florida, so I doubt that gay bar rumour is true.

I knew a straight model. He was only a model for Macy's men's clothes but he was insanely sexy and muscular enough to be my college's arm wrestling champ. He was very macho, but he was also obsessed with his looks. So straight guys do sometimes obsess with their looks.

by Anonymous | reply 124 | July 7, 2011 8:35 PM |
Ah, come on, OP, you may not be a real dog. And believe me, some "models" are. And a lot of gay guys having photos of themselves and saying they are models is equal to all the "actor" waiters that abound. Now as for being a real model, I've done it. Liked many of the people in the business, found them reasonably sane and good guys. It just isn't for me. It is hard work! You've got to maintain yourself, always look good, be ready to show at all times. You have to know to work the camera. You must be photogenic. No matter how you look, just look great on film. You'll get lots of editorial and campaign work if you remember the shoot isn't about you, but about the garment, or site or situation. The guys good at that worked the most. Even with a top agency, Click, Q or Ford, people know your work, or hear of it, or see your book, cast you and you do the shoot and then do not know what, if, pic will be used. You've no control over yourself other than showing up! That can suck. But it's good money. And I think if a "model" doesn't really love it and net over $100,000 for work his first year it isn't worth his time. Go back to teaching or the ice show! I still know several models, run with fewer. Some are vain, some are really stupid and dull, no better than any of the boys in the bars, but boy do they book! The top of the heap do NOT book because they put out! Mostly I didn't ask, or gossip, but I'd say easily half are gay. At least the ones I date are gay. Wouldn't bother with them if they weren't! I did - do - know many who are straight, really. No posing there, they just aren't interested in guys. I think they secretly dig being lusted after by anyone. For my tastes, far too many in the business are the twitty gay-girl types, just oh so Guess ads. I do - did - American well; don't care for "them accented guys". Good on the runway, perhaps, but oh, Mary! I laughed at [116]'s "only a model for Macy's"! Most New York guys I knew would kill for the gig. And "underwear model"? When they are dressed they look like half the world. But the Thin World. Other than being pretty, you'd not know what was underneath. Some "only date lookers" and some only like guys out of the business. Actually the really stable good ones mate and slut and date and run around just like "real guys". This DL fantasy looking in from the outside make it far better-sounding than it actually is. It's just a job; don't gain weight, keep slim (the camera does NOT add pounds!), don't get a pimple, show your most recent reel/print. A lot seem to have worked a few years, then leave. But I still know some elder-gays, IF they're gay, no matter the rep. or the marriage, who've aged from the University shop to Wall Street clothing and have been at it years. They still do well. And I still hear talk of how old models (the 70s or so) like Squirrel Logan or Joe Macdonald would still be working ... if. Their pix look great. Sad how they went. Anyway, it isn't that glamorous of a life, and every day more barefoot guys come to town agog praying for an agent and all ready to work for less. (It is dangerous going out your door, Frodo) So go get your MBA, find yourself an earnest student who will love you for your self, and let him be your Jeremy

My nephew is a model. He's straight, has a model gf whom we all secretly call The Polish Supermodel of the World, and they currently live in NY. He's lived in London, Paris, Tokyo, Milan and Rome, has traveled widely and has done pretty well for himself, considering he barely graduated from college (paid for by daddy) and his only stated ambition was to be a ski bum. Some model agent saw him in Amsterdam and gave him her card, and he started working right away.%0D %0D When he's not all manicured and primped out for photos, he looks and sounds like a stoned surfer-dude. He's not the brightest bulb in the chandelier, but he's very sweet and it's kind of amazing that somebody who had so little ambition wound up with an actual career. He seems to have a good head on his shoulders, and is very aware that this could all end at any time and that he will probably never make this kind of money again in his life. %0D %0D His younger brother jokingly calls him "Eurotrash" because he seems completely unaware of and unconcerned with anything that is going on in the US, with the exception of where his next modeling gig is coming from.

The problem with male models is that eventually, they get old. Like everybody else.%0D %0D And god help them when they no longer have their looks and their youth.%0D %0D I seriously don't know what keeps them from killing themselves, once they're no longer desireable to anyone, because they've gotten older and no longer have their looks to fall back on.%0D %0D Therein lies the trap of vanity.
by Anonymous | reply 135 | August 18, 2011 11:42 AM |
A sense of entitlement is a turn off to those who are not driven by the same - why models date other models. Once they age, they self destruct.
The need to be wanted, becomes a critical life force.

I used to model in the 1980's. As others have said you have to be on time and professional and you are treated like a good looking prop for the clothes or product. The money is great and you have to watch what you eat and exercise incessantly or you won't get the booking. I got hit on by photographers and make-up artists and others who I wasn't the least bit interested in and you have to be careful how you brush them off or you may never work for them again.
I do think many of the models are insecure. Even though you know you look great, you are competing with dozens of other guys who are good looking too and when you don't get the job those self doubts haunt you.
I've had a difficult time with relationships because of my looks. People assume you are shallow and stupid and don't give you a chance to prove them wrong.

A lot of straight guys care about their looks and how they present themselves A LOT. Not sure if they obsess all day long, but they care a lot because they know it's the key to them getting chicks. Not so tough to understand.

R147 are you on drugs?
No chick would ever care about 5 extra pounds. Have you ever met one? After a statement like that, I question if you have ever met a women who is not a faghag or frumpy office frau.
What chicks actually do care about, Face, Money, Celebrity. A good body yes also, but not anywhere to the degree models or gay men obsess about body.

r151 has totally missed r147's point.
by Anonymous | reply 152 | March 4, 2012 8:12 PM |
Power is the key to getting chicks in straight world. I have never known any gay male model to be attracted to power like women are.
by Anonymous | reply 153 | March 4, 2012 8:33 PM |
FINALLY! An acknowledged gay top male model. Thank you R146 for telling us about Nikola. Chris and Nikola look very cute together.
by Anonymous | reply 154 | March 4, 2012 9:20 PM |
It's not just about power in the straight world. That's an oversimplification. Of course, looks matter - they're just not the *only* thing that matter. If a straight guy has good looks, he can easily get women. If he doesn't have good looks but has money/power, he can still attract women. Straight guys have more than one avenue for attracting women, but many depend on their looks - especially when they're younger and career success hasn't entered into the equation yet.

I'll not post for a while and wait. What say you, DL?
by Anonymous | reply 163 | May 14, 2012 8:45 PM |
Why would you want to date a male model? They are not actually very good looking. They are sickly skinny to the point of hollow cheek bones and visible shoulder bones, over 6 feet tall and have block head shaped faces. This is who gets picked today, because they are nothing more than accessories to women models. Males are picked specify, to complement the "concentration camp survivor look" of the typical female model.
(If you put a female model next to a football player build, you would realize how freaky the female models bodies actually are)
Straight guys don't read Vogue or buy high fashion clothes for themselves, unless they are "Scientology Straight". The few male high fashion clothes sold, are bought by Gay men or more likely, the wives and girlfriends, to the absolute horror of their males partners.
But, as per your question about dating, most male models play both sides because they are "career focused opportunists" (I'm being nice here). So if you have the contacts and the money, you have your pick of the litter. If you want actual emotion in a relationship, you had better date a musician, because you're not getting anything but distant sex, from a male model.

He was a kind and consideratE person. He didn't seem to mind that I wasn't hot. He seemed to "enjoy" my company. He took forever to cum and that's what broke us up.

The 7 Deadly Truths of Modeling Today:
Firstly, the lower the IQs of the models, the easier they are to control and the more profit others will make. So rocket scientists of either sex, need not apply.
Secondly, humble people do not gravitate to modeling, you are dealing with a pretty vain, self involved mindset to begin with.
Thirdly, models are treated by the clients, agents and photographers with the same respect as bags of potatoes at the truck shipping yards. So this is why they are a bit "testy".
Fourthly, many of the people working behind the scenes are modeling rejects, with the resentment and negative attitudes to match.
Fifthly, The only way to really make it, is to attach yourself to a celebrity or powerful person you meet, during your short window of opportunity as a model. One magazine photo with Madonna will do more for your modeling career, than all the plastic surgery in the world and photos in a 100 adds.
Sixthly, drugs are the number one way models stay thin - everyone knows it. Plus drugs have a secondary benefit for the agencies (see Firstly).
Seventh, there are still more people wanting to be models today than, ever before in human history, as a number AND as a percentage of the population. Competition is INSANE! - getting worse and prices are going down.
by Anonymous | reply 176 | May 15, 2012 6:39 PM |
Thanks, R176. Very interesting.
by Anonymous | reply 177 | May 16, 2012 3:14 PM |
Also, a youth obsessed modeling culture keeps the faces changing regularly and prevents the creation of super models who start to interfere with profit.
Much of the money made today in modeling is holding these modeling competitions in nowhere towns. Parents pay a fortune for support services just to get their ugly kids into the contest, so they can brag about their kid being a model. The winner gets a short term, mock modeling contract, that has already been paid for 1,000 over, by the contestants fees. It is a real cash cow.

I know this is olden news, but I used to work at fashion shows back in the day with Kevin Krier. Well I got to go backstage and mingle a bit before and after the shows. Male model Ryan Locke always struck me as gay. I remember catching him in an intense conversation with the singer Maxwell. I could tell they were both really into each other, but both so deep in the closet, they really couldn't show it.

Don Gandy is/was hot, but someone recently posted a pic of him and another male model and Don did not look so great - his stomach seemed to bulge and he looked exhausted. wish I could find the picture, but I cannot find that DL thread.

I think it was R16 that I most relate to. Another (fleetingly brief) model here. I never understood my looks. I can appreciate them in pictures, looking back. I never understood why anyone would want to photograph me. I see now that my lips are ridiculous as a white boy. My face is interesting in certain lighting situations. I have a good jaw in certain light, but not in real life. I don't look like my pictures. The camera definitely lies. I'm about to turn 40, and it's interesting to look back.

r185 Do you mean David Gandy?

There are 3 known homosexuals in this photo, can you pick them out?

I'm sure Andrej Pejic is gay, although he has never said it outright, I would assume he is.

R178 lol so true about parents shoving their ugly kids to be models. My coworker is one. Her daughter is fugly and she happen about her wanting to be a model ever fucking day.
by Anonymous | reply 190 | May 17, 2012 4:14 PM |
YES thanks. David not Don R188! LOL, maybe that is why I could not find the picture.

Because if you work hard and set your goals, you too can be a model.

I had lattes with the model yesterday. A totally endurable half hour of talking, he wanted to see my apt. so we went up and talked a little more. I realize many people end up having sex at this point, but we were very out of sync and neither of us made a move.
I have his number now. He is gay. And sorry r179, I think it might be unfair to name names at this point.
by Anonymous | reply 193 | May 19, 2012 9:07 PM |
Interesting R193, for what it is worth I do believe you and I do not need initials or names.
Based on his interest in your apartment, IMO you could have had sex with the model if you pushed for it. Good for you for not going for it if there was no connecting vibe.
by Anonymous | reply 194 | May 20, 2012 4:30 AM |
Sex for models is overtly available and has little value, they are looking for substance. They often date other models or people linked to the modeling industry and they can't find any substance in a relationship.
The resulting drug abuse, also helps them stay thin.

*yawns* I guess we are never going to get a new male models thread!!

Interesting that British Vogue has a slideshow on its favorite male models and doesn't bother to name them. link at r181

According the the forums at FD no male model is gay, they insist Matt Gordon is not gay and had a gf, and the insist Joao Vellutini is not gay and has a gf, having said that both is probably true and neither is not gay. Fashion Male Model is really homophobic, probably more homophobic than gay porn.
by Anonymous | reply 203 | May 24, 2012 10:40 AM |
Matt Gordon seems to me gayer than life itself and I say that as the greatest compliment, he's sweet.
I once saw that boy filmed backstage getting made up for a runway show. He was yapping away to his male stylist with half his hair up in bobby pins and it was an explosion of jazz hands and 'Oh okay guuurl' type schtick.
Those fool fangirls are in total denial about half the male models as there are quite a few bi or gay guys in high fashion circles, especially Euro ones. It doesn't help that they always end up doing interviews about fictional girlfriends or what they're looking for in a woman.
Just shows you we're still living in prejudiced times.

Models beard just as much as teenbeat actors. Why, I don't know. 12 year old girls don't lust after male models. I think it is fear of losing a gig because they are perceived too effemmey for or by the client. Even Mark Jacobs, the openly gay designer, makes his male models overtly butch up.
by Anonymous | reply 205 | May 24, 2012 1:04 PM |
I read a piece on some gay site, could have been gay.com or something similar, where all the male models backstage a big show, when discovering where the interviewer was from, refused to talk to him.

Because every industry barring that of the great drag queening variety is terrified of openly gay men expressing themselves.
Honestly it's just pathetic.
I remember an article on a fashion modelling forum where some chick, her cousin went off to model for one of the big name houses in NYC and he was straight away told to butch it up. He wasn't actually gay but the message that came across was that they were paranoid about image and perceived effeminacy and that you'd get more work if you toned down gay mannerisms (which come naturally to some).
And yes bearding is rife in top modelling too. The women probably have less of a hard time than the guys.

omg I havent been able to access my favorite model's twitter page in over a week. It says his page doesnt exist anymore. I hope he didnt off himself :(
by Anonymous | reply 208 | June 17, 2012 3:25 PM |
The more obsessed with butch any industry is, the more gay guys actually work in it.
The industries which are the lest homophobic, are the ones who have fewest gays.

Wow, i didnt realize there were so many other shy, neurotic MM's out there. We should form a support group. In the late 90s when i modeled, i was a go-to "heroin chic" guy. I would always end up working with a freckled girl with red frizzy hair and an a&f stud, and felt i was there for "character", which is really just comic relief. I was truly driven insane by the conflicting surges of flattery and embarassment. Never kept a porfolio, threw a tantrum if my bf ever brought it up in public, but kept doing it and never turned a job down. And us interesting looking guys only got shitting paying editorial work and some runway. No bigbucks. It truly is a rare type of mental illness that only a few get to experience. Its intersting how skinny gawky lanky nerdy has now penetrated into the mainstream, and these kids are generally accepted as handsome/hot.

Love your post, r210. I know a few guys that were in the same place career-wise as you (not booking campaigns, but walking) and they went to really different places - one went into soaps and the other moved back home to the Midwest. I think the second scenario happens to many models.
I love Cesar Casier. He's the cutest thing ever and writes this blog that approaches adorable (the malapropisms sometimes!) when it's not chic. I'm not in NYC and I'm getting older, so I don't have any great stories to add.

I worked with a guy in retail back in the 90s. Thin and had "clothes hanger shoulder." Incredibly nice and innocent. He went to a party Martin Lawrence was throwing in DC with a cousin one weekend an was modeling the next! Someone saw him. Quite the whirlwind.
He wound up going to Italy and god knows where else to model. He had a full time job and did this on the weekends. The retail was his pt job. He spoke of the embarrassment of nudity all around and such. I could only imagine what else went on he was too shy to talk about.
He made some nice cash and I'm sure it was exciting, but he went for the stable life.

His DC cousins knew Lawrence. He went for a visit one weekend...I think this was right after the first crazy episode he had, or right before it.

Justin Clynes just came up as someone I might know on Facebook. We have two mutual friends (though no one I'm close enough to ask about him.) Judging by the many photos of him hanging out with gay guys (and the zero of him with straight guys) I'd say he's gay.

Any word of River Viiperi or Francisco Lachowski? Both have gfs but any insider know anything?
by Anonymous | reply 216 | July 12, 2012 1:47 AM |
Bump
I wanna know about River too! In his earlier videos on his you tube channel, before he was famous or even verified on twitter, he seemed very gay, doing the faces, hand gestures, recording every big client's agency with his camera, talking about and showing clothes he won, recording him at make-up chair asking about every product that was being put on his face, talking about how he doesn't listen to rock, only pop, etc. Couple months ago he tweeted he was seeing old Britney Spears videos, then a girl asked about it and he said he was a fan. Other day he talked about the Spice Girls. Am I being unreasonable here?

I know Justin a bit. He took my last headshots and they (and he) are fantastic. He's not closeted, and is perhaps the most self-possessed guy still in his 20s I've ever met. To know him is to love him, I imagine. I could not get over how handsome he was during the shoot. If you are looking for headshots ($500-$600) I say hire him. You will love the results.

Justin Clynes is openly gay. I know him. He dated one of my best friends. We've gone to the NY gay pride pier dance and parade as a group. He is VERY feminine and even wears makeup at times in public. Please.

Have always dreamt of dating or even knowing a male model , but if I was ever lucky enough I'd treat him as I'd like to be treated . I'm 20 years old 6 ft and hoping to get into modelling when I move. But if a male model wants to chat you can contact me by my email address. beckyc1993@live.co.uk

So, nobody knows anything about RJ and Derek? Someone who knows his sister (I know, I know, it's the Internet) says she confirmed he hooked up with Nick Grimshaw a couple of years ago at least. He and Miles Mcmillan would make a beautiful couple, haha.
