Hi, Bill Greves, Susie Lee's friend who started her on Datalounge after a big surgery she had a couple of years ago.%0D %0D I haven't been on DL for a long time. Apparently the board has undergone some changes and when Susie tried to get back on to post one day, she couldn't find her thread, couldn't bring it up in a search, nothing, so she just gave up.%0D %0D She is currently with her son, his wife, and new granddaughter Elizabeth in Italy (her son works for a company in the U.S. but has to go to Milan occasionally). I spoke with her on New Year's, and she has requested that I post and tell everyone hello, she hopes you had a wonderful holiday season and have a spectacular new year. When she and I are together at some time, we'll try to get her back to posting if any of her posting friends are still around. She wanted to be remembered to everyone.I realize she doesn't know you, but I think she felt like she did. I apologize for not posting sooner but I have been frantic lately. TY for helping her during what was a sedentary and lonely time for her. She would still love to be in touch. I'll try and get her there when she returns. Bill
Susie Lee

Suzie Lee is just some fraud -- an old queen in a caftan pretending to be a Hollywood bitch.

Thanks for the update.

Annnnnnd R1 upholds the grand DataLounge tradition of being a complete cunt.%0D %0D Thanks for the update on Susie Lee, OP.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | January 12, 2011 1:30 AM |
R1, what if she is? Does it really matter? The threads were fun and I enjoyed the postings. If Susie is fake, well, she is a good one, and I enjoy her. If she is real (and she sure sounds authentic) she is kind in her stories of an earlier era. %0D %0D Susie, come back!

Thank you, GREVES/OP!
by Anonymous | reply 5 | January 12, 2011 1:33 AM |
Thanks, OP. I've been hoping she's OK -- & it sounds like she's having more fun than most folks here, so that's fine. I'd love to see her back whenever she's ready.

Regards to Susie Lee, OP. She is missed around these parts.

I miss her too! Please urge her to return. She's definitely the real thing!
by Anonymous | reply 11 | January 12, 2011 1:47 AM |
Thanks for posting, we appreciate the update. Ignore R1.
Just wanted to let you know that a lot of the older threads from before April of last year were deleted in a purge a few months ago. Several people mentioned that their SusieLee threads disappeared, and there doesn't seem to be any way to get it back. SusieLee might try posting in this thread or another active thread when she comes back, see if someone will start a new thread for her.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | January 12, 2011 1:48 AM |
[quote]R1, what if she is? Does it really matter? The threads were fun and I enjoyed the postings.
So you're completely okay with the idea of being lied to and lead on for years, if it turns out she's not for real? Totally bizarre. I thought the whole point of her posts was that she was supposed to be this real deal insider.
There is a weird, worshipful cult member type of vibe from the posters on those threads. It's hard to believe that they're Dataloungers. They seem more like the type of people who would have given their life savings to Jim and Tammy Faye, or wore purple shrouds and Nikes with Marshall Applewhite and the gang.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | January 12, 2011 1:51 AM |
A handful of people on DL like SusieLee, and you're invoking the Heaven's Gate cult. Way to keep perspective, R13.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | January 12, 2011 1:56 AM |
Suze is the real deal, but the nice thing about message boards is that you can skip threads that you don't want to read. If that's how you feel, reply 1, I'm surprised you didn't just skip the post. By the by, I'm the old queen in the caftan, she's just old.

Bill Greves and Susie Lee thanks a ton!%0D %0D

They weren't. They were straight women who were thrilled with all the actors Susie Lee put back in the closet in her threads. They were nauseating.
The people her threads drew here mostly sound like pathetic sycophants. As far as "just skipping threads", OP/R15, that's not how DL has worked in the last decade. Many of us go onto threads when we don't like the subject, either to see who else agrees or to see what the bloody fuck has happened to the site we used to know and love.
Another reason we've been inundated with dumb straight people: mentions in "People" and "US" magazines listed DL as "for great insider gossip" a few years back. There was a huge falloff in intelligence around that time.

by Anonymous | reply 23 | January 12, 2011 2:43 AM |
I've thought about Susie Lee many a time in the past year and I'm glad to hear she's around and thinking of 'us.'
Thanks for the update, Bill!
And I am a dumb straight sycophant woman, apparently. Who knew? R17, eh.

Many of us would love to hear from Susie Lee when she gets back. And I bet that you look cute in your caftan.
Thanks for the update.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | January 12, 2011 2:58 AM |
And R17, since this change occurred a "few years back", it should be apparent by now that DL isn't going to revert to what you knew and loved. The collective intelligence level will simply not be returning to the lofty heights that your magnificent brain requires for mental stimulation.
So why don't you just go away?
by Anonymous | reply 27 | January 12, 2011 3:06 AM |

Worth retailing, R28? With superior intelligence like yours, no wonder her stories bored you.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | January 12, 2011 4:02 AM |
So good to hear about Susielee and how well she is doing. I wish I were there with her in Italy. I remember her stories with such fondness and really used to look forward to her posts, so I hope she'll be back soon. Thank you, Bil, for keeping us in the loop.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | January 12, 2011 4:19 AM |
I'll add my voice to the chorus: Thanks for the Susie Lee update. I've thought of her often and miss her.
Well well, R17, ain't you something? I've been at Datalounge over a decade now-- certainly long enough to see changes. It's not posters like Susie Lee and her readers who have been causing DL to circle the drain. It's the posters who feel the necessity to comment on the validity and inherent worth of every word uttered here. That, and posters like MHB. The old skool irritants that used to hang here (i.e. Ehrenstein) were much more entertaining than MHB and its ilk will ever be.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | January 12, 2011 4:25 AM |
Thanks for the update OP! Come back to the five and dime Susie Lee (when you're done with Italy)
by Anonymous | reply 34 | January 12, 2011 4:25 AM |
[quote]They weren't. They were straight women who were thrilled with all the actors Susie Lee put back in the closet in her threads. They were nauseating.
I don't know...I think they are indeed mostly old caftan-wearing queens who drop to their knees at the mention of anything Old Hollywood. And as a previous poster stated, they don't really care if any of it is true or not. That's why the resentment whenever anyone who doesn't blow smoke up their guru's ass ventures onto one of the threads.
In any case, the posters on this thread are proving my point for me. Swords out and shields up, at the slightest breeze in their little nostalgic fantasy world.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | January 12, 2011 6:58 AM |
[quote]It's the posters who feel the necessity to comment on the validity and inherent worth of every word uttered here.
That's the absolute truth. It's the constant complaints that nothing said on here is true that kills everything. Some people literally go from thread to thread, calling "EST" every chance they get. Who wants to share anecdotes or gossip with that kind of bullshit going on?
by Anonymous | reply 36 | January 12, 2011 7:05 AM |
Oh, God, can't this tedious cow post on iVillage?
Couldn't agree more with R28!
You can summarize a SusieSlag thread as follows:
"Oh x was just a darling person, so I heard. And they are very amusing, and said witty things, so I was told. And the children are just delightful, although I don't know them personally. But thank you for asking."
Christ almighty! I suppose she goes down a treat with the flyover queens & fraus who've never heard sparkling conversation in their lives, but for the rest of us, she's a parody of one of those drunk old bitches one finds sitting alone on the end of couches at parties and, in sympathy, sit beside...until 15 minutes later you stagger away realising why everyone is avoiding them -- because they're chronic bores!!!
by Anonymous | reply 37 | January 12, 2011 7:14 AM |
I like Susie Lee, glad to hear see's doing well. I wish the negative bores on this thread that have nothing enjoyable or entertaining to say would just go away. They are the bores in this world, not Susie Lee.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | January 12, 2011 7:25 AM |
Wow, this shows how much DL had changed in the last few years. The Susielee thread was great because all of the nasty trolls stayed out of it. Hell, now the first response is some raging bitchqueen.
I love Susielee!!! She brought some much needed class to this place.
Thank you for the update. We will welcome back SusieLee with open arms.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | January 12, 2011 10:57 AM |
I can see how someone acclimated to the expletive-laden no-holds-barred style of posting on DataLounge would find Susie Lee's contributions a bit anodyne. Still, she came across as a kind and intelligent person, and I enjoyed her posts as a departure from the usual vitriol.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | January 12, 2011 11:05 AM |

The R1's and R17's of the board hate threads like this because they draw attention away from their "I'm fucking a straight guy" and "I'm sucking off my hung Dominican super" EST's which they seem intent on posting. Talk about circling the drain.

by Anonymous | reply 49 | January 12, 2011 3:46 PM |
r 41 here.%0D %0D I used to follow all the SusieLee threads, but I stopped once I realized that most of her anecdotes were about '50s and '60s stars, most of whom don't interest me much. If I asked about a '40s star, she would ususally respond not all that differently from r 37's quip: ("Oh x was just a darling person, so I heard. And they are very amusing, and said witty things, so I was told. And the children are just delightful, although I don't know them personally. But thank you for asking."). That's fine - not everyone 'who was there' could know everything about everybody. %0D %0D r 48: I do remember that SusieLee didn't care for Myrna Loy. I can't recall why - maybe SusieLee never gave a reason. That surprised me, as I'm a particular fan of Loy as an actress and even more as a person. %0D %0D What made the threads increasingly dull for me was the fact that nobody graciously challenged her on any of her observations and anecdotes. It was all just pleadings and pronouncements.%0D %0D A lot of what SusieLee posted made sense, but I think it is also entirely possible that SusieLee sprinkled her reminisces (like any anonymous Datalounger) with a bit of bullshit, too.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | January 12, 2011 4:33 PM |
Maybe so, r50. But I knew a few of the old timey stars Susielee knows. She knew stories I knew, and I knew stories she knew. So go figure.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | January 12, 2011 4:41 PM |
In all honesty, I clicked Trolldar on her after we had just gotten it, and saw that she had replied to herself, pretending to be someone else in one of her threads. I was a little dissapointed, but who hasn't done that?
by Anonymous | reply 52 | January 12, 2011 4:43 PM |
The thing that bothers me is the nastiness of people who don't even care about stars of the 40s and 40s, but they'll toss "cunt" at the threads over and over. Why can't they just scroll past?
by Anonymous | reply 53 | January 12, 2011 4:46 PM |
Fascinating, r 51. You should start your own thread then, :)%0D %0D Just don't tell me you didn't like Myrna too!
by Anonymous | reply 54 | January 12, 2011 4:48 PM |
Actually, I don't she's ever done that. I remember someone, possibly you, calling her up on it, but she wasn't replying as someone else, she forgot to log in and post under her authenticated name. Anyway, no one forces you to read the threads you find dull.
I'm surprised at the negative posters here who question Susie Lee's authenticity while not offering a proper argument why she can't be who she claims she is. Frankly, all of you naysayers sound a bit envious. Let the rest of us enjoy her stories, OK?
by Anonymous | reply 55 | January 12, 2011 4:53 PM |
No, I didn't call her on it, and she was replying to a post that she herself had made. Like I said, we were all guilty of it before Trolldar. %0D %0D I'm not saying not to enjoy her gossip. So why the hostility and anger from your end?
by Anonymous | reply 56 | January 12, 2011 5:04 PM |
[quote]I'm not saying not to enjoy her gossip. So why the hostility and anger from your end?
How is my post angry or hostile? Seriously.

I hope Susie Lee can come back. She had a lot of good stuff.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | January 12, 2011 5:16 PM |
I remember a post where she walked in on James Garner and Lauren Bacall and someone else snorting coke. I also recall that she said she didn't have much to contribute because she didn't know any of the stars of today. Don't recall her saying she didn't like Myrna Loy.She didn't like Raquel, had hilarious stories about Bacall, said Tina Louise and Yvette Mimieux were cold bitches, had good stories about Robert Wagner, Robert Redford, Robert Taylor and the classic era stars. The prob with Lee was that if she didn't know something she said soand it's true she only knew some people socially. Rather than make up something she said it. Maybe people would rather she fabricate something. She talked about her dad, Mary Martin, was close friends with James MacArthur as I recall and had candid shots of him, also a photo of Capucine with her at a party. The prob again is she wouldn't have been likely to walk in on anyone having sex, gay or straight, so she couldn't talk about it. Did think Anderson Cooper's father was gay and knew he roomed with Johnny Ray before he married Gloria. Never forgot that one.I loved her posts. And yes I don't think she got the hang of the posting and posted without her name at times. p.s. I'm a gay male and proud of it.

I'm genuinely puzzled, r 51. I was making perfect sense. Why do you think I wasn't?%0D %0D I was stating my reasons why after a while I didn't get into SusieLee's groove. The period she knew about didn't jibe with the period I wanted to know more about.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | January 13, 2011 12:25 AM |
Susie Lee never intentionally posted as another person. Sometimes, and she noted this, she answered without signing in.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | January 13, 2011 12:28 AM |

[quote]I can see how someone acclimated to the expletive-laden no-holds-barred style of posting on DataLounge would find Susie Lee's contributions a bit anodyne.
I really don't have much of a problem with SusieLee herself. I'm not sure she's an actual person, much less an insider, but whatever. My problem is with her worshipful acolytes who bow and scrape and slobber over her every pronouncement, pleading with her to PLEASE pass down some more gospel to them, and who rear up hissing at anyone who doesn't react to her the same way they do. There's something deeply pathetic and un-Dataloungeish about it. Worship threads and behavior like this have always been fair game here, but the SusieLee followers have apparently never gotten the memo.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | January 13, 2011 12:35 AM |
She is the daughter of late character actor Kurt Kasznar. He was a contract player in the post-war years at MGM (Kiss Me Kate, Lili, et.al.) as well as a steady presence on Broadway throughout the 1950s and 60s. Her step-mother was the lovely character actress Leora Dana.%0D %0D Does anyone deny this...not believe this is true?%0D %0D So why wouldn't SusieLee have a lot of interesting opinions of famous show biz personalities whose paths she crossed?
by Anonymous | reply 66 | January 13, 2011 1:16 AM |
[quote]What made the threads increasingly dull for me was the fact that nobody graciously challenged her on any of her observations and anecdotes.
That's not strictly true. I am a huge film buff, have read a lot of books and interviews, and on a few occasions asked her for clarification or confirmation about things that didn't seem right. She never answered, but before you fly off the handle, it was a case of her leaving the thread for several days (or longer) before even coming back to it. I doubt she even SAW my questions.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | January 13, 2011 1:57 AM |
R13/R65, just stop. You're exaggerating the situation to the point of useless hyperbole, and then getting mad at the exaggeration. It's obvious this benign little thread upsets you, so just admit it.

Great to Susielee is coming back. I have been craving for some good Hollywood gossip. BTW, I know for a fact that she is 100% the real deal.
At least we can find out some more information about who was in the closet in old Hollywood. A lot better than Perez Hilton who after talking with major cry baby, Ellen, now candy coats everything to the point that you want to fall asleep.

Hi Bill. Tell Susielee that it's Shirl here. It sounds like she's doing much better. I send her big hugs.
No people, I've never met Susielee. I've never spoken to her other than the occasional post on DL. But we have a couple of friends in common and have shared a couple of stories about kids, homes and things that wouldn't be any part of a media story. So she is the real deal.
Some of the posts here are what puts the pointless into pointless bitchery. Susielee was very kind to me at a period in my life when I needed some kindness. Yes, it was through DL but so fucking what. So haters, crawl back into your basements, gather up your Cheetos because I'm sure there's a good show for you on SyFy tonight.
She always answers questions, and if she doesn't know she says so. I wouldn't be surprised if she said enough. No more. But DL loses out.
Anyway Bill, send Susielee my best regards, and let her Shirl is thinking fondly of her.

I wouldn't be so predisposed to mock Susie Lee if she tell an anecdote to save herself. But she can't. She's never once recounted anything that could give a dinner party pause. It's always just 'X was a wonderful person, blah blah, and their wife was just darling'. %0D %0D Bitch, please! This is DL, not iVillage. %0D %0D Thank God for old timers like Charlie who actually DO have genuine dish.%0D %0D For those who finger themselves over old Hollywood goss, I note the latest edition of Acne Paper (flyover fraus: "What that?")has several pages of an interview + photos of Jack Larson, the now 83 year old gay man who played Jimmy Olsen in the original Superman, and who has lots to tell of Montgomery Cliff, Liz and others he knew from the Olden Times. And R83, why not avoid threads you dislike? No one's forcing you to read them.
by Anonymous | reply 84 | July 26, 2011 4:52 AM |
It's possible that Susie Lee is real - I guess I would say I'm 70% sure she is actually who she says she is - but I remember her first posts where she explained that she was flat on her back (or incapacitated or recovering or whatever) and she had said that a friend had recommended Datalounge as a place to go to share her stories. That's odd right there; some friend of hers recommended Datalounge of all places (no matter what you say, most gay people have not even heard of Datalounge) to throw around a little gossip? Amd I know who Kurt Kasznar was, but he was a fairly minor player in Hollywood - how likely is it that this man's daughter would know or have met virtually every actor in Hollywood in the last 50 years? She "knew" or had met everyone from Myrna Loy to Dawn Wells to Angelina Jolie. Seems improbable. I know a few Hollywood people from an earlier era and they don't know half the people that Susie Lee does. It's possible she's real and that everything she ever posted is true; I am just saying it's all a little suspect.

by Anonymous | reply 87 | July 26, 2011 5:18 AM |
Yet if you google Susie Kasznar or Susan Kasznar or Susie Lee Kasznar nothing seems to come up other than Wikpedia or IMDb entries which mention that she is Kurt's daughter. If she was such a bigshot in the industry why does there seem to be no record of her work? Again, I am 70% inclined to believe her anyway; I'm just not a Kool Aid drinker like some of Susie's fans.

I grew up in a neighborhood in L.A. that was so upscale, movie people were discouraged from living there. Nonetheless, a certain group of monied people do end up going to the same restaurants, parks, night clubs, places like the Hollywood Bowl and the Greek Theater and you do cross paths with people in the movie business. Someone like Susie Lee could very conceivably have met the people she talks about. She has also said many times that she did not know the actor in question, which only makes her sound more credible.

Yes, I love to read all of Susielee's Hollywood inside stuff because I love old Hollywood and I adore classic films. Also, I appreciate Susielee to take the time and share gossip with us. However, to be a little opened minded, one thing that I thought was odd was that she claimed Montgomery Clift was straight? Uh? Whaaa? As I recall, she said the doorman to Montgomery Clift %E2%80%99s place said he would bring women up to his place. So! maybe he was learning to knit or something. But involved in relationship with a woman? no way! I have heard from many people he was a big queen. He was the type that you really didn%E2%80%99t have to speculate because it was a done deal.

R96's nastiness is like the guy who sometimes posts as "west hollywood 2hawt2Bbelieved." What turns a person into a nasty jackass like that? Are they so ugly that others have picked on them throughout their pathetic life? One thing is certain, they have an ugliness that oozes from within.

[quote]That's odd right there; some friend of hers recommended Datalounge of all places (no matter what you say, most gay people have not even heard of Datalounge) to throw around a little gossip?
I've always found that strange too; I mean, yes, DL appreciates gossip. But it's also a place where virtually every page is swimming with posts about things like taints, porn, or fantasizing about your male relatives. Who on earth would think it's a good idea to send a sweet old lady here to post, knowing she'd trip over that stuff?
by Anonymous | reply 101 | July 27, 2011 3:30 AM |
Bill here, Susie Lee's friends. I check out DL sporadically. I read some of these posts with interest.I'm glad I did not encourage her to come back here. For the record I am the one who sent her here. I have some on-line friends who post here, around my advanced age. I thought it would be a good distraction for her when she was bedridden and they would enjoy her posts. One of these posts described Susie as a sweet old lady. She's a very open-minded person with friends from all walks of life. Not easily shocked. As far as her being a big shot in the business, I would be surprised if she ever said that. She did some work as a press rep, as an actress, under the name of Worth, her first husband, and some writing, using her connections to get interviews. This was way before the internet so I don't know why there would be much on google. I think she has some great stories but there are people she only knows from parties and charity work and she doesn't know the new stars. Someone else said she outed Montgomery Clift as straight. Her folks knew Montgomery Clift when he was involved with Libby Holman. Again I doubt she "outed" him as being straight since we knew his situation. There were people on this board that she really liked though she only knew maybe one or two names. Regarding Kurt and Leora, her father and stepmother, they knew everyone involved in theater and film. Between them they worked with nearly everyone who was anyone. Again it was another time. I also doubt she answered herself in a thread as it was hard enough for her to post AS herself. She was always forgetting to sign in after I set up her account. She seemed to like posting and I know there were people who liked her. It was a great help to her during a bad time, but why subject her to insults. If you don't like a thread, why you wouldn't skip it is anyone's guess.

Susie Lee was my favorite poster on this site, and I've been coming here for 16 years. It was perfectly obvious to anyone with a brain in his head that she was who she said she was and that her posts were authentic. Besides being the real thing, she was also modest, charming, candid, literate, and informative, with a healthy perspective about show business and life in general. I liked and admired her as both a Hollywood chronicler and a person with a rich set of experiences on which to base her observations and perceptions. I particularly admired what I took to be her truthfulness; she never pretended to know someone she hadn't known. I miss her. Ultimately, she was too good for this site.
By the way, for all you doubters, the entertainment world was a much smaller place a half-century ago than it is today -- far less fragmented. If you grew up in it, you were likely to know a good percentage of the people in it.

Mr. Greves,%0D If you see this would you let Susie know that my dear friend Jill Haworth passed away? January 3rd this year in New York. Thanks for coming back GREVES. I hope Susie is doing well. If you speak to her tell her that the majority of us absolutely loved her stories and that we know she was the real deal. I wish I had saved her posts. It seems they were deleted by our webmaster with everything else a couple of years ago. And there is no archive (nor there will ever be one). In my humble opinion she was the best poster DL had in years.

This thread would offer a good place for the webmistress to start, if a DL cleanup were to be seriously attempted. There is no reason for the insulting, demeaning posts here, and seeing the end of the posters would brighten the place up and let the better outrages shine.
There's plenty of room here for all kinds of threads. The savages who have to drop their crap everywhere and then complain about the stink need to go - back to the woods.

R115 is the typical example of people who are younger who want the now to the point they are dogmatic about it. Posters like r115 don't want to ignore super threads that are a fest for the eye of true stories that were about the very best period in Hollywood history. Cornelia Park Woolley Nathan Kasznar died in June 1948. There was a great deal of notoriety around her death as it was sudden and then a maid came forward and claimed pills went missing before the police arrived, so Cornelia's body was exhumed in December but an autopsy showed no foul play.
Cornelia's obituaries and the will that gave Kurt Kasznar a life interest in yearly stipends to an investment of over $250,000 also stipulated that at his death those payments were to go to her only surviving child, Cornelia Park Woolley, a noted deb who went on to marry Stewart Burnett Clifford. This daughter was more than 10 years older than Susie Lee purported to be and was married by 1953.
Kurt and Lenore had no children and were not married until 1950, making her too old to have an affair with Tyrone.
There is no record of her being the person she says she is. I feel duped.
