We've been through Helen Hayes, Marge Champion and Mary Martin - and my dear, we're still here
We careered from Follies to....Follies, to....Follies! And talked until we almost died of boredom and repetition.....but we're here!
We've gone from Barbra to Beanie to Lea and it's clear.....Beanie can't sing.....
We flew with Cheno and Erivo and Idina Menzel.....they landed on Charlotte St. Martin and raised some hell....
What's a hit? What's a flop? Need to hear some nonsense? Ask mlop.....
We've all swooned over Steve Kazee and Roger Bart, Andy Karl made me melt.....but Jesse Williams had them all beat below the belt! Yes, we're all queer.
600 threads for us to unspool, while Stritchie's STILL stinko by her pool.
We've been through Merman and Angie, Bette and Tyne, Mama's a tough one but Bernie was fine. Imelda was something, some say Audra slayed, but for Patti Lu it was....a beautiful day!
Oh well....I tried, dolls. Happy 600th THEATRE GOSSIP thread!

The exterior of the house, the grounds, and the views are quite beautiful; it's a shame the pictures were taken when the trees were bare.
The first few shots of the solarium and entryway are very nice and I love, LOVE the wallpaper.
Then came the rest. I think this is the most deflating Tasteful Friends edition I've seen. Everything is so, so wrong in the "open plan" indoors. I don't have the vocabulary to describe why the reconstruction/remodel looks so bad to me, except the spaces just look disjointed. And all of the forced cabinetry everywhere. And the tiling... And only three bedrooms...

It is a dark time for the very heterosexual city of Los Angeles, in which Hobo Ridge and his wrinkled face somehow still captivates both The Slut from the Valley and yet another recast of his other ho, NuTaylor of Cameltoe. Meanwhile, in LA's sole restaurant, Ill Giordino, vile, despicable mistress of evil, Sheila Carter, makes pizza while bonding with her granddaughter, two-time murderer Luna of the Enormous Panties. Wafting throughout the city is the rank odor of Daphne, a perfume expert who can be smelled twenty miles away, making it impossible for her to eavesdrop on nearby conversations. All are looking for one thing that may heal their galaxy: the cure to Zende's explosion from twink to obese, hoping to stop his expanding girth before he outgrows blouses and transitions into caftans--and possibly blocks out the LA sun. Continue the adventure here, where Liam may be dying, Dollar Bill needs pants that don't give him a muffin top, where Hope is hopeless, and JKW wins another Daytime Emmy just for showing up to work in a bad mood. . .
Bitch on, bitches!

How did it all go wrong?
The first two seasons were FLAWLESS. The third nearly so. By the second Colman season, it was starting to show signs of strain, but it was still perfectly serviceable. But the Staunton seasons were execrable, especially the last season.
I don’t even think I finished season six, I skipped straight a whole chunk of episodes and went straight to the end, just to see how it all wrapped up.
A nearly perfectly terminal decline in quality from season one to season six. Who is to blame for what became of The Crown?

I can’t think of any other musical with so many fantastic sequences that overall is a flop. “Rich Man’s Frug”, “Hey, Big Spender”, “Rhythm of Life”, “There’s Got to be Something Better Than This” are all amazingly done and have millions of hits on YouTube.
But the movie sags and lags in too many places, I guess. John McMartin is boring. MacLaine’s Charity comes across as soft in the head.
Is anybody aware of how the “Rhythm of Life” sequence was designed and staged in the original show? In the movie, it’s full on hippie but that hadn’t really taken hold yet as of 1966.

Erika Kirk vowed in a September 12 speech to continue her husband’s movement and said that “the cries of this widow will echo around the world like a battle cry.”
It was Erika Kirk's first public appearance since her husband was killed while speaking with students at Utah Valley University days earlier.
“The evil-doers for my husband’s assassination have no idea what they have done,” she said in a livestream on the YouTube page of Turning Point USA, the conservative movement her husband started out of high school in Illinois that has since swept college campuses around the nation.

ICE calls for removal of man accused of beheading another man with machete at Dallas motel CONTENT WARNING: This article contains graphic descriptions of homicidal violence. Please read with care.
A Cuban national, who officials say is in the US illegally, has admitted to using a machete to kill a man in Dallas, according to a court affidavit filed in the case.
The suspect is accused of attacking and ultimately beheading another man in a violent incident at an area motel Wednesday.
Dallas police identified the suspect as Yordanis Cobos-Martinez, who is being held without bond on a charge of capital murder by terror threat. CNN has been unable to verify whether formal charges have been filed.
CNN has reached out to Cobos-Martinez’s attorney but has not yet received a response.
Police say Cobos-Martinez was cleaning a room with an unnamed witness as the incident unfolded. The witness told police Cobos-Martinez became upset when the victim, Chandra Nagamallaiah, used the unidentified witness to translate his request to not use a broken washing machine instead of speaking to him directly, according to the affidavit.
Surveillance video shows Cobos-Martinez leaving the motel room, pulling out a machete and attacking Nagamallaiah. After the victim ran, the attack continued outside – in front of the victim’s wife and son – both of whom attempted to intervene, according to the affidavit. After beheading Nagamallaiah, Cobos-Martinez allegedly placed the victim’s head in a dumpster.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement issued a statement Thursday announcing it had lodged a detainer for the federal arrest and removal of Cobos-Martinez, whom ICE called a “depraved criminal illegal alien from Cuba.”
The beheading comes amid the Trump administration pointing at crimes committed by undocumented people as reasoning behind the recent immigration crackdowns across the United States.
Several other killings have proven to become flashpoints in the debate over immigration and border security, including those of Laken Riley and Katie Abraham.
“This is exactly why we are removing criminal illegal aliens to third countries. President Trump and Secretary Noem are no longer allowing barbaric criminals to indefinitely remain in America,” Department of Homeland Security assistant secretary Tricia McLaughlin said.
Cobos-Martinez was previously held in ICE Dallas custody at the Bluebonnet Detention Center but was released on an order of supervision on January 13 “because Cuba would not accept him because of his criminal history,” according to ICE. CNN has reached out to the Cuban Consulate in the US to verify this accusation.
Cobos-Martinez’s criminal history includes “child sex abuse, grand theft of a motor vehicle, false imprisonment and carjacking,” according to ICE, but did not produce any documentation indicating when or where any of these prior accusations took place, or whether any resulted in a finding of guilt upon CNN request.

More big stars are lending their voices to Audible’s seven-part audiobook adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s “Harry Potter” books.
Those joining the cast in several fan-favorite roles include: Kit Harington as Professor Lockhart; Keira Knightley as Professor Umbridge; Iwan Rheon as Professor Lupin; Ruth Wilson as Bellatrix Lestrange; Ambika Mod as Nymphadora Tonks; Leo Woodall as Bill Weasley; Simon Pegg as Arthur Weasley; James McAvoy as Mad-Eye Moody; Gemma Whelan as Professor Sprout; and Matt Berry as Sir Cadogan.
The first audiobook, “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone,” is scheduled to be released on Nov. 4, 2025, exclusively on Audible, with each of the remaining six English-language audiobooks releasing monthly worldwide.
It’s the third batch of casting announced for “Harry Potter: The Full Cast Audio Editions.” The latest group will join Hugh Laurie as Albus Dumbledore, Matthew Macfadyen as Lord Voldemort, Riz Ahmed as Professor Snape, Michelle Gomez as Professor McGonagall, and Cush Jumbo as the narrator. Last week, Audible and Pottermore announced Mark Addy as Hagrid, Alex Hassell as Lucius Malfoy, Daniel Mays as Dobby, and Sara and Avni Deshmukh as the Patil Twins.
Young actors Frankie Treadaway, Max Lester and Arabella Stanton will play Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger respectively in audiobooks 1-3. (Stanton is also playing Hermione in HBO’s “Harry Potter” TV series, which is currently in production in the U.K.) Jaxon Knopf, Rhys Mulligan and Nina Barker-Francis will assume the same roles (Harry, Ron, and Hermione respectively) in audiobooks 4-7.
Additional casting for the Harry Potter audiobooks will be announced this fall, the companies said.

I am on Charlie Kirk's hit list.
His so-called "Professor Watchlist," run under the umbrella of Turning Point USA, is nothing more than a digital hit list for academics who dare to speak truth to power. I landed there in 2024 after writing commentary that inflamed the MAGA faithful. And once my name went up, the harassment machine roared to life.
For weeks my inbox and voicemail were deluged. Mostly white men spat venom through the phone: "bitch," "c*nt," "n****r." They threatened all manner of violence.
They overwhelmed the university's PR lines and the president's office with calls demanding that I be fired.
The flood was so relentless that the head of campus security reached out to offer me an escort, because they feared one of these keyboard soldiers might step out of his basement and come do me harm.
And I am not unique.
Kirk's Watchlist has terrorized legions of professors across this country. Women, Black faculty, queer scholars, basically anyone who challenged white supremacy, gun culture, or Christian nationalism suddenly found themselves targets of coordinated abuse.
Some received death threats. Some had their jobs threatened. Some left academia entirely. Kirk sent the loud message to us: speak the truth and we will unleash the mob!
That is the culture of violence Charlie Kirk built. He normalized violence. He curated it, monetized it, and sicced it on anyone who dared to puncture his movement's lies.
And now, in the wake of his shooting, there's all this national outpouring of mourning, moments of silence, yellow prayer hands, and tributes painting him as a civil debater. But the truth is that Kirk and his foot soldiers spent years terrorizing educators, trying to silence us with harassment and fear!
And now the same violence he unleashed on others has come full circle.
But what i find especially jarring is the dissonance in public mourning for a smug white man whose life work was actively hostile to certain groups. Kirk spent years demonizing LGBTQ people, mocking gun survivors, spewing racism about Black folks, and pushing policies that literally shorten lives. It is so revolting to watch a bipartisan wave of grief sweep over this hateful racist as if he was a neutral community servant.

Many media outlets running with this now. The WaPo already ran with that absolutely bull crap story about pro-trans messages on the bullets, that were actually 4chan and video game memes.
First, we already know he was turned in by his dad and his pastor. What kind of guy dating a tranny is still going to mormon youth group? Two, Discord already came out and said that none of his messages were related to the shooting in any way. The right wing media is a disgrace. I'll eat crow if this turns out to be true.

I still remember going to the record store after school (junior in college) to buy the album 'on sale' for $4.99 !
Summer begged Geffen Records to release 'Oh Billy Please" as the first single off the album, but they opted for 'There Goes My Baby' instead, which just missed the Top 20, peaking at #21. She asked for 'Eyes' to be the second single, but they went with 'Supernatural Love' instead, peaking at #75. A gospel song written by Reba Rambo and Dony McGuire entitled "Forgive Me" would win Summer a Grammy Award for Best Inspirational Performance.
Cats Without Claws peaked at number 40 on the Billboard 200 chart and spent only 17 weeks on the chart. The album failed to attain the success of its predecessor, She Works Hard for the Money, which peaked at number 9.

Is this accurate? Madonna started out as a dancer and learned to sing later (voice lessons during her Evita period) Gaga started out as a singer and learned to dance later. I've never been to one of Gaga's monster balls, but I know they tend to run long and are well received. She doesn't not dance, like Adele or Whitney Houton, so it wouldn't be fair to put her in that category. So where exactly does she fall?

Catherine Zeta-Jones is under fire for making a 'creepy' and 'really inappropriate' comment about an underage fan.
The Wednesday star, 55, was a guest on the Late Night with Seth Meyers show last week, when she detailed a recent encounter with a 12-year-old fan.
The actress was promoting the second season of her hit Netflix series and opened up about gaining a 'new generation of fans.'
She recalled playing golf with her husband Michael Douglas, 80, when a young fan approached.
'I was practicing, and this really cute 12-year-old boy came up and asking for my autograph, and it was like really cute, and then I went "Haha. When I'm 70 this cute little boy will be like 33."'

40 years ago, on September 14, 1985, NBC took a chance on a Saturday night sitcom about four women in their 'golden years' who decide to live together under one roof in Miami. 'The Golden Girls' quickly became a ratings hit and 'must see TV' for a Saturday night, winning multiple awards over its seven year run. It has lived on in syndication every since the series ended, scoring legions of younger fans throughout the decades.
I remember watching the show the night it premiered with my mother and father (I remember my sister, 24, was out on a date that night with this really hot guy she worked with). We had a small color TV on the kitchen counter, and for some reason we watched it while we sat at the kitchen table (I remember earlier that evening my mother made pizza and my aunt and uncle came over for dinner, but wanted to get home to watch this show, I guess that's why we stayed at the table). I remember we couldn't stop laughing, and it became a Saturday night ritual to sit in the kitchen and watch the show on the counter-top TV.
Who else remembers watching it the night it premiered ?

The pledge, published on Monday by the organization Film Workers for Palestine, saw more than 3,900 industry figures — including Oscar, BAFTA, Emmy and Palme d’Or winners — declare that they will refuse to work with Israeli institutions and companies that are “implicated in genocide and apartheid against the Palestinian people.” The pledge statement states that examples of complicity include “whitewashing or justifying genocide and apartheid, and/or partnering with the government committing them.”
As an American Jew, I am not supporting this either. This Israeli government along with its assortment of crazy people are nothing like us here. Wish they would stop trying to pander to us like we're all in this shit together. Bitch, no we are NOT.

Can we have a new discussion of underrated horror films in time for Halloween? There was an old thread back in 2018 but it’s been locked for years.
I nominate The Skeleton Key (2005) with Gena Rowlands, Kate Hudson, Goldie Hawn, John Hurt, and Peter Saarsgard. It’s a Southern gothic thriller with a lot of atmosphere with good (and even sometimes great campy) acting performances. Also, the twist isn’t ending a cheap one at all - it was there all along if you know where to look.

Judge Judy Sheindlin said that she “probably could benefit from therapy,” but doesn’t plan on going since “I don’t really want to know.”
The longtime TV judge shared her take on therapy during an appearance Sept. 2 on Amy Poehler’s podcast Good Hang. The Parks & Recreation alum noted Sheindlin’s strong sense of self and asked, “Is there anything you're not as certain about as you get older?"
“Younger people — and it may be good — they're more navel gazers than I am. I sit there and say, ‘Oh my God, are you in or out, or left or right?’ ” the Justice on Trial star, 82, said. “I'm a ‘what is, what is’ girl. Because I probably could benefit from therapy."
Never been?” Poehler asked.
“Never been. People will say, well, you for sure could benefit from therapy. Say, well, that's true. But I really don't wanna know,” Sheindlin said. “I'm not that interested in why I feel the way I feel and why this hurts me and why this makes me happy or why this makes me sad. I just wanna say, 'This makes me sad'. And [see] if I can excise it from my life.”
“So the answer is I'm not that introspective,” the Judge Judy and Judy Justice alum explained. “As I said when I started this chat with you, I'm really not an academic and I'm not inquisitive.”
At the top of their conversation, she told Poehler, “Believe it or not, Amy, I'm not intellectually curious … I'm not. If something is, it is. I don't have to know why it is. I know it just is. It makes my life much less complicated.”
Sheindlin elaborated further, telling Poehler, “I'm not intellectually inquisitive. If I like the pizza, I like the pizza. If I don't, I don't. I don't wanna know what you put in your pizza so that it would make it a better pizza. I don't care. I'll go from Joe's pizza to Anthony's pizza, where I know I like it. And not try to change Joe. “

I went to eat with my mother and brother tonight at a little Mexican place. Halfway through dinner two women started screaming at each othe and it ended up with one of them slapping the shit out of the other one. Turns out one woman made a comment about the other one's daughter being too fat to be a cheerleader causing the offended mom to turn around and address the entire restaurant about the transgression. Mom's friend then joined in the fight. Everyone in the restaurant was in shocked silence. After mom bitchslapped the other woman they fled. Cops came and asked what we saw and heard. One guy got the license plate of the women. My guess is they'd imbibed one too many margaritas. It was like one of those Karen videos.
To be fair, the little girl was extremely overweight and squeezed into a cheer uniform

Charlie Sheen is fully opening up about his past in two upcoming new projects — his memoir The Book of Sheen (Sept. 9) and the Netflix documentary aka Charlie Sheen (Sept. 10) — and in both, he gets candid about past sexual experiences with men.
"I flipped the menu over," he says in the Netflix doc and the book, of trying something new after years of having sex with women. He says he's no longer hiding from his past, but owning it. "I'm not going to run from my past, or let it own me," he tells PEOPLE in this week's cover story.
In the documentary when the interviewer asks Sheen how it feels to be talking publicly for the first time about having sex with men, he says, "Liberating. It's f---ing liberating... [to] just talk about stuff. It's like a train didn't come through the side of the restaurant. A f---ing piano didn't fall out of the sky. No one ran into the room and shot me."

I understand them wanting an established star for My Fair Lady and that’s why they passed on Julie Andrews.
But Shirley Jones was probably close to being on the same level as Audrey Hepburn at the time? She was already famous for Oklahoma, Carousel, and The Music Man. She also won an Oscar for Elmer Gentry.
She could actually sing. But could she do two different accents? She arguably could have been a better Eliza Doolittle than Audrey, no?

I haven’t seen My Fat Daughter this upset since she was denied breakfast at a McDonalds at 10:35am.
I think My Fat Daughter’s Bible pages are stuck together again-this happens when she goes to Arby’s and gets extra Horsey Sauce. Otherwise, she might realize the incongruity of claiming to be on the side of Jesus and peace , while calling for someone to be sentenced with the death penalty.
She is truly exhausting.

The “Lord of the Rings” actor will succeed outgoing president Fran Drescher, who led the union through the 2023 TV/Theatrical strike and 2024/25 interactive media strike. Drescher chose not to seek re-election.
Astin defeated New England local board member Chuck Slavin for the seat with 79% of votes received. Michelle Hurd was elected secretary-treasurer. Their terms begin immediately.

In a loan estimate for Cook’s Atlanta condo prepared by her lender, the home’s “property use” is described as “vacation home,” according to the document dated May 2021 and obtained by The Washington Post. And in a December 2021 form submitted to the Biden administration for her nomination to the central bank, Cook listed the Atlanta property as a second home under a question about vacation homes and other “additional” properties.

I've posted about my mother's decline with early-onset Alzheimer's several times over the years here. She is 71 and was diagnosed ten years ago, although she started showing symptoms around 2013.
Around the time of her diagnosis, she also successfully battled breast cancer. Well, now, it seems the breast cancer has returned with a vengeance, and while they won't perform an ultrasound or biopsy, much less treat the cancer in any way (she has been in hospice care for over two years), it seems she is not long for this world. I can only hope the end is soon, swift, and relatively pain-free.
Losing one's mother sucks. I just finished revising her obituary. Even though I "lost" her many years ago, I could still hug her, wheel her outside to look at the flowers and the birds, talk to her, play her favorite songs for her, just be with her. I'm about to lose that, too. The world seems like a much darker place without my mom in it.

Saturday Night Live head Lorne Michaels has confirmed that SNL cast members will exit the show ahead of the upcoming season 51 premiere on NBC.
After no notable cast departures were revealed following the show's landmark season 50 finale, the 80-year-old TV legend announced in a new interview that the roster will get a big shakeup as season 51 looms.
"Yes," Michaels told Puck when asked if he's "going to shake things up" with a new cast.
He recalled being at a party for the season 50 premiere, during which he remembered Dana Carvey approaching him and saying, "I don't think anyone knows you called me June 4 [to play Joe Biden]."
That made him realize he "wanted people coming back and being part of [the 50th season]," as it marked such a monumental moment for the long-running sketch comedy show.
"So, when Kate [McKinnon] hosted, Kristen [Wiig] and Maya [Rudolph] came back for it. And that meant there couldn’t be those kind of disruptions [to the cast], or anything that was going to take the focus off [the 50th season]," Michaels continued. "And we had an election."
The outlet pressed Michaels on feeling "pressure to reinvent this season" ahead, to which he replied, "Yeah, for sure. It’ll be announced in a week or so."
He additionally confirmed that the show will again rely on actor James Austin Johnson to play Donald Trump for the foreseeable future.
Entertainment Weekly has reached out to SNL representatives for comment.

I'm seeing a lot of commercials lately for discounts on drug prescriptions if you download the app such as 'SingleCare' and 'GoodRX'. In the commercial, the pharmacist tells the customer the 'price' of his prescription (say, $200) and then he whips out his phone and says, "I see it for $10 on 'Singlecare' " and she honors the price with a big smile on her face. At the end of the commercial, it says not to pay high prescription prices and to download the app and save money everytime you show the app price - good at CVS, Walgreen's, Target, WalMart, etc.
I have one namebrand RX that costs $60 for thirty pills, and I get a three month supply. I'm interested in doing one of these apps if its worth it. I can't seem to find any honest reviews on the apps. (My other two RX are generic, and cost less than $5 for a ninety day supply).
Has anyone here using it ? Is it worth it ? Do you actually save money ? Is there a 'catch' to any of this - is it too good to be true ? Anyway of finding out my 'discounted rate' without putting all my info into the app and downloading it ?
Thanks in advance for any info you can share.

CAPE CORAL, Fla. — Former Republican North Carolina Congressman Madison Cawthorn was arrested Wednesday on an out-of-county warrant for failing to show up in court.
Cawthorn was scheduled to appear in court for an arraignment in Collier County. He was cited by Naples Police for driving without a valid license on Aug. 19.
According to the Collier County Clerk of Courts, a warrant was issued Wednesday morning after Cawthorn failed to show up to the arraignment scheduled for 8:30 a.m.
Cawthorn has been living in Cape Coral, and he was released on a $2,000 bond, according to the Lee County Sheriff's Office.
A statement was shared with Gulf Coast News from Cawthorn:
"Former Congressman, Madison Cawthorn, was arrested earlier today for failure to appear for a routine traffic infraction. Madison keeps a very busy schedule and, due to a scheduling misunderstanding, did not appear in court this morning. Following processing Madison was immediately released."
According to Cawthorn, police knocked on his door and arrested him at his home.
After losing his election in 2022 in North Carolina, Cawthorn has been rumored to be running for Congress in Florida's District 19.
Previously, Cawthorn was involved in a crash along Alligator Alley in Collier County in 2024 where the report stated he slammed into the back of a Florida State Trooper vehicle.

Surströmming is a Swedish delicacy of fermented Baltic herring, known for its extremely pungent, sulfurous odor and strong, acidic taste. The fish is caught in the spring, lightly salted, and then fermented in tins for several months, a process that continues even after packaging, causing the cans to bulge. It is traditionally eaten outdoors or underwater to contain the smell, served with flatbread, potatoes, onions, and sour cream.
Surströmming is made from small Baltic herring (strömming) that are caught in the spring, then stored in a salt brine for about two months before being canned.
The odor is often described as rancid, rotting, and sulfurous, with some comparing it to diarrhea or a "big poo in a can."

"A lovelorn screenwriter becomes desperate as he tries and fails to adapt 'The Orchid Thief' by Susan Orlean for the screen."
Directed by: Spike Jonze.
Written by: Charlie Kaufman. Based on "The Orchid Thief" by Susan Orlean.
Starring: Nicolas Cage, Meryl Streep and Chris Cooper. Co-starring: Cara Seymour, Brian Cox, Tilda Swinton, Ron Livingston and Maggie Gyllenhaal.
At first glance, it seems kinda slow and tedious with, perhaps too much phylosophical/metaphysical stuff in it. But it's totally exhilarating after the 1st 40 minutes. Chris Cooper totally deserved the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor.
I guess this film is widely used for academic purposes by people who want to be writers/screenplayers.

More than 200 agents joined the online call, which was first reported by The New York Times. An official attending the meeting told the Times that Patel criticized the agency’s “Mickey Mouse operations,” saying it was one of the few times in the call that he wasn’t cursing.
During the call, Patel and FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino emphasized the need to catch Kirk’s killer. Patel also criticized Salt Lake City agents for not providing him with a photo of the suspected killer until 12 hours later, the Times reported.

Her exit comes after NBC had seemingly firmed up its season 51 cast earlier in the week.
One more castmember is leaving Saturday Night Live before the show’s 51st season.
In an Instagram story posted Friday morning, Ego Nwodim says she had decided to leave the show after seven seasons. Her announcement comes a few days after NBC had seemingly finalized the SNL cast for the coming season, with Nwodim included.
“The hardest part of a great party is knowing when to say goodnight,” Nwodim writes in the Instagram post. But after seven unforgettable seasons, I have decided to leave SNL. I am immensely grateful to Lorne for the opportunity, to my castmates, the writers, and the crew for their brilliance, support and friendship. Week after week on that stage taught me more than I could have ever imagined, and I will carry those memories (and that laughter) with me always. Now invite me to your weddings please!!!”
Nwodim becomes the fifth member of SNL’s cast to leave between seasons, following Heidi Gardner, Devon Walker, Michael Longfellow and Emil Wakim. The Please Don’t Destroy trio also won’t appear on screen together after writer and sometime performer John Higgins departed the show; Ben Marshall moved out of the writers room to become a featured player (along with Kam Patterson, Jeremy Culhane, Veronika Slowikowska and Tommy Brennan), while the third member of the group, Martin Herlihy, is staying on as a writer.
On Monday, Nwodim’s name was included in a list of returning cast for the coming season, alongside Kenan Thompson, Chloe Fineman, Bowen Yang, Mikey Day, “Weekend Update” anchors Michael Che and Colin Jost, Andrew Dismukes, Marcello Hernandez, James Austin Johnson, Sarah Sherman, Ashley Padilla and Jane Wickline.

by Reeves Wiedeman, New York Magazine published August 25, 2025
Ethel Kennedy’s death in October at 96 was the end of a trying few years. Her health had been in decline, and she had confined herself to living full time in Hyannis, the longtime family compound on Cape Cod. In the summer of 2024, her immune system was so compromised that she couldn’t attend the wedding of her granddaughter Mariah Kennedy Cuomo, even though it was being held at her home. “Normally, Ethel would be a part of everything,” one attendee said. “But all she could do was sit on this enclosed balcony and wave at people.”
Ethel’s son Bobby was there, too, although many of the other wedding guests weren’t in a mood to talk to him. Ethel’s relationship with her third child, named for her beloved husband, had always been tempestuous. When Bobby was a young man, she regularly threw him out of the house for drug use and other chaotic behavior; when he was 13, a coatimundi he kept as a pet attacked Ethel and sent her into premature labor with his brother Douglas. In high school, after Ethel excoriated him for getting arrested for marijuana possession in Hyannis, he packed up and drove west without telling anyone in his family where he was going, eventually selling his car and hopping freight trains. Bobby seemed to relish the chance to break away from his family and ride the rails with the other vagabonds. “I could be one of them,” he said later. “And not be a Kennedy.”
Bobby and Ethel eventually made amends. He got sober, and Ethel became a booster of his environmental work. Bobby similarly came to appreciate his mother, writing in his 2018 memoir, American Values: Lessons I Learned From My Family, that her “sharp rebukes no longer trouble me.” That comment goes some way to explaining why Bobby was undaunted by any reservations Ethel had to his plans, announced in the spring of 2023, to challenge Joe Biden for the Democratic presidential nomination.
Ethel never spoke publicly about her son’s campaign, but everyone saw the effect it had. “The one who was brokenhearted — and the family won’t talk about it, but I saw it up close — was Ethel,” a longtime family friend said. She had devoted her life to supporting the Democratic Party, which RFK Jr. was now undermining with his insurgent, conspiracy-riddled, anti-government candidacy. Just a week before Bobby announced his run, President Biden, who had been close to the Kennedys for decades and kept a bust of Ethel’s husband, Robert F. Kennedy Sr., in the Oval Office, had called Ethel from Air Force One to wish her a happy 95th birthday, as he did every year, while flying to Belfast with her grandson Joe Kennedy III, who was serving as his special envoy to Northern Ireland. When Bobby made his candidacy public, Ethel called Biden to apologize for her wayward son. “You don’t have to,” Biden said. “I know about these things.”

[BENTONVILLE] - Hot off the viral success of her eulogy for her newly assassinated husband, Erica Kirk will partner with Walmart on a new line of bulletproof neckties, the retail giant announced today.
The former pageant queen worked closely with the retailer’s in-house design team, selecting an unusually pliant bulletproof steel alloy from which to fabricate the ties, which are then sheathed in MAGA red cotton that has been machine-embroidered with scenes from the Old Testament. Fashion-forward shoppers can safely speak their minds while sporting such indelible moments as King Solomon splitting the baby and the arrival of the Four Horsemen.
“My husband bravely gave his life for the freedom to speak loudly and hatefully,” said Kirk. “I’m thrilled to partner with Walmart to allow American men to continue to shoot their mouths off without getting their mouths shot off—stylishly and affordably.”

Vance Luther Boelter, the 57-year-old that authorities have identified as the suspected gunman wanted for allegedly shooting and killing a state representative and shooting and wounding a state senator in a targeted act of violence, allegedly had dozens of Minnesota Democrats on a target list.
Those on the list included Gov. Tim Walz, U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar, U.S. Sen. Tina Smith and state Attorney General Keith Ellison, according to law enforcement sources familiar with the matter.
Police said the list -- which was retrieved from the suspect’s vehicle -- also named Hortman and Hoffman. Both victims are Democrats and Hortman was formerly the Speaker of the Minnesota House of Representatives.

Henry Cavill was a major movie star in the making until his career suddenly trailed off, as evident in his recent movies flopping at the box office.
Henry Cavill was once at the pinnacle of his career, landing on massive franchises here and there, and then one day, his name became an afterthought. He’s no longer appearing on screens as much as he did before, and most of his recent projects either tanked heavily or went under the radar.
Whatever happened to Cavill and his once-promising Hollywood career? Like many other celebrities, he was also embroiled in numerous controversies, and while some were mere allegations, others were blatant mishaps on his end.
Here are some of the possible reasons why Cavill is no longer a favorite choice in the business:
1 Henry Cavill’s Recent Movies Failed to Make Box-Office Returns
2 Henry Cavill Was Criticized After a Controversial #MeToo Comment
3 Henry Cavill Got the Flak For Dating Younger Women
4 Henry Cavill Has Been Accused of Toxic Behavior on the Set of The Witcher
5 Henry Cavill Mostly Portrays the Same ‘Brooding Character’ Type of Roles
6 Henry Cavill Announced His Own Embarrassing Superman Exit
7 Henry Cavill Once Lost a Role Due to Weight Issues
The actor is a fan-favorite bet for the role of James Bond, but this wasn’t the case when he auditioned for 2006’s Casino Royale. In a conversation with Men’s Health, the actor revealed he was rejected for the lead role because he was “a little chubby.”
Cavill struggled with body image since he was young, even admitting he used to be called Fat Cavill. But now that he has improved his figure, it seems like the only roles he usually plays are tailored for ripped guys like him.

In a new interview with the Daily Mail, JoJo Siwa discussed her new relationship with her Celebrity Big Brother co-star, Chris Hughes, and the world's reaction to her dating a man after coming out as a lesbian.
"When I came out at 17, I said, 'I’m pansexual, because I don’t care about gender.' But then I kind of boxed myself in and I said, 'I’m a lesbian.' And I think I did that because of the pressure."
When the interviewer asked her where that pressure came from, she said, "In a weird way, I think it came a little bit from inside the [LGBTQ] community at times. From people I know, from partners I’ve had. You just get put in this world where you feel like, because you now have said, 'Oh, I'm a lesbian,' you have to be a lesbian. And the truth is, sexuality is fluid."

People really speak about him like he was the very first gay man to be on Real World. It’s nuts because he was on season 9 and the original season had Norm, San Francisco had Pedro, Miami had Dan, etc. yet we have always treated Danny like he was more impactful to be “out” (he claimed he was bi, like Norm prior) in 2000 than it was for Norm in 1992. Not to mention Norm is older and was fucking men when HIV/AIDS was still newer and killing people and he was still smart enough to be safe and not get sick.
If any gay men should be held to the highest order it should be Norm and Pedro, not Danny, who people act like is a Sainthood for gay men.
His story on the OG season isn’t even that deep, and if anyone should be given credit for the bravery it took Paul to be filmed on the show during “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”, it should be PAUL. Not Danny. He wasn’t at risk in that situation.
I’ve always been confused by how people speak and act about him.

If you've ever ordered a McDonald's burger without pickles or ketchup hoping it would mean a fresh patty, you've been living under a delicious misconception. According to former McDonald's corporate chef Mike Haracz, who recently shared the inside scoop on TikTok, customizing toppings doesn't guarantee anything. Burgers at McDonald's are assembled to order — meaning the condiments and extras are added when you place your order — but the patties themselves are kept in what's called a UHC (Universal Holding Cabinet). That's where they stay warm until it's time to build your sandwich. The one exception is Quarter Pounders, which McDonald's policy requires to be cooked fresh every time you order one. So if you're after a burger that's guaranteed never to see the inside of a holding cabinet, the Quarter Pounder is your safest bet.
But what if you're craving something else, like a classic McDouble or Big Mac, and you still want it made fresh? Haracz says there are a couple of tricks people swear by. One option is to ask for your burger "unseasoned." Since McDonald's adds a sprinkle of salt and pepper to every patty before it hits the grill, requesting yours without seasoning forces the staff to make one fresh for you. The same trick technically works for fries, too, but this hack comes with a trade off since ordering it this way means it might not taste like the McDonald's you know and love. After all, that signature salty bite is part of the experience.

Premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival, Canceled: The Paula Deen Story knows that it’s tackling not just the former TV host’s faux pas but a larger reckoning that falls somewhere between Confederate monuments and contempt around pronouns in terms of controversy-bait.
It’s still interested in Deen’s story, giving Paula and her sons, Bobby and Jamie, plenty of screen time to talk about their hardscrabble roots, their mom’s once-chronic anxiety attacks, the fraught atmosphere when her husband drank, the early successes.
Gordon Elliott, the former-journalist-turned-producer who helped shepherd Deen into the spotlight, and Deen proceeded to unleash a camera-ready charm offensive. New York beckoned. Fame was inevitable. There will be butter.

I've been laid up with the flu for the past week and have gone down the YouTube rabbit hole watching police bodycam videos, everything from DUI arrests to drunks getting kicked out of bars to ex-girlfriends stalking their ex-boyfriends. Most of the videos are hilarious (and most take place in Floriduh, of course), and I love how all the people who get arrested inevitably shriek, "I didn't do anything!" as the handcuffs are placed on them. It's also fun watching deadbeats without a dime scream, "I'm calling my attorney," as if these WalMart rejects have a lawyer on retainer.
Anybody else get oddly entertained by these?

Donald Trump said he's deploying the National Guard to Memphis, choosing a city in a Republican-controlled state where the governor welcomes the intervention as the next target in his crime crackdown.
"We're going to Memphis," Trump said, calling Memphis "deeply troubled" and adding that Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee, a Republican ally of Trump, and the city's Democratic Mayor Paul Young are both "happy" about the plans. "We're going to fix that, just like we fixed Washington."
Memphis had the highest rates of murder and other violent crime of any city with populations greater than 500,000 in the country in 2024, with 40.6 homicides per 100,000 people.

Never mind the fact that a) I misread the email and the Cabaret actress is Marisha Wallace not Marsha Wallace b)Marsha Wallace spelled her name Marcia Wallace and c) oh yeah....Marcia Wallace died in 2013. Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln.......

Ellison, the tech billionaire who owns the Hawaiian Island of Lanai and personally bankrolled Tim Scott's presidential campaign, is now the world's wealthiest man. This rise comes thanks to several major new contracts his company, Oracle, has signed to grow their business and market share.
Ellison and Musk are said to be close friends, and share a litany of cognitive conditions that make them both hyper-focused on work and utterly incapable of basic human interaction.

If you love the smell of commercialism in the morning, here’s something to drink up.
Brad Pitt – everyone’s favorite 61-year-old actor, producer and beard-grower – is the star of a new espresso machine ad for De’Longhi from Oscar-winning director Taika Waititi.
The gig is not new for Pitt, who’s been a spokesperson for the company since 2021, but it is for Waititi, who won the Academy Award for best adapted screenplay for his film “Jojo Rabbit” in 2019. (Another Oscar-winner, Damien Chazelle, directed Pitt’s first ad for the company.)
Even Pitt’s furry, four-legged co-star seems to be judging his accent a little, but if you believe a dog that gorgeous does anything but judge everyone around it, you haven’t been paying attention.

I'm not sure why they are so particularly endearing to us, but they are. Impossible mess Liza Minnelli gets tons of affection here, even more than someone more productive and successful in her later years than Streisand. Britney Spears is loved for being a giant mess, and so is brenda Divkson (although no one in the universe seems to be paying her attention outside of here).
Weirdly enough, though, I've notived gay men who preemptiveely announce they are giant messes are not much liked, like Daniel Levy and Billy Porter.

Overrated
Mariah Carey- she was...something in the early-mid 90's but then her voice got really tense and noisy. People also do not realize how often she either used full studio playback, prerecorded versions or lip synced hardest parts of songs f.e almost all "We belong together" climaxes were lip synced. She is at the same time so horrible and so good at lip syncing that sometimes u can't tell the difference and sometimes it looks like she couldn't give a flying fuck.
Christina Aguilera- named "the voice of generation" and praised to be a legendary singer with 4 octave range. In reality the quality of her voice is dubious at best- airy pushed low notes, strained basically screamed belts, head voice and falsetto are the best part of ber range and she demonstrated that she can hit decent G6 many times (What a girl wants). Her usable live range is C3-G6 which is less than 4 octaves but still decent. However most of her live performances is using 100 generic runs, glissandos, repeating "hieeeeeeeeyyyy" "yeeahhhhhhjejeeje" and dodging most important high notes - Fighter E5, Beautiful F#5, the voice within F#5. She rarely use playback- most of the times its too hit hard note -like F#5 from aint no other man or long E5 from Candyman. She is def worse than Ariana or Demi a nd the latter praise her like a god.
Underrated
Lady Gaga- despite the fact that Gaga was good singer since 2008 and her abilities only became better she was mostly remembered as attention seeker with weird designs and being a gay icon. Most people do not think about her as a great vocalist. She has great vocal technique, her range is consistent from C#3/D3 up to A5. Her belting really good and resonant.
Beyonce- another one who is imagined as a dancer rather than vocalist. Her entire vocal range a d technique is nearly perfect- she supports down to B2 and can belt as high as G5 with resonance and her head voice is also one of the best in the industry. I think her and Gaga underrated perception of vocals is due to the fact that they are performers- they have dancers around, walk half naked or do other shits while Mariah or Whitney were just standing and singing. (Both are terrible dancers tho).

After five years together, Nina Dobrev and Shaun White have called it quits. The Olympic snowboarder proposed to Dobrev nearly a year ago. She has since unpinned the Instagram post announcing the engagement, which was previously front and center at the top of her grid.
Dobrev and White have yet to address their breakup publicly, though a source close to the duo told People that “it was a mutual decision, and wasn’t an easy one.”
The longtime couple was last photographed together in late August, though Dobrev was photographed solo on the red carpet for the Eternity premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival this month.

According to CNN, Tisch alleged at a news conference that McGriff, 42, used a ruse to get into Frank and Maureen Olton's home in the Bellrose neighborhood, where security footage purportedly showed he stayed for about five hours before re-emerging. The homeowners, both in their 70s, denied him entry at first but he's later seen entering the couple's backyard, the outlet reported.
Tisch further claimed that McGriff had been going door-to-door in the neighborhood asking to charge his phone, a request investigators believe he made to the Oltons that morning, the Associated Press reported.
Fifteen minutes after McGriff was seen leaving the home with two bags in his hand, the couple's home went up in flames, the New York Times reported, citing police officials. Officers who responded to the scene by 3:30 p.m. found Maureen severely burned on the first floor and Frank stabbed and tied to a pole in the basement, per the Times.

Former Vice President Kamala Harris says it was “recklessness” for Democrats to leave it to President Joe Biden to decide whether to continue seeking another term last year, but she defends his ability to do the job, according to an excerpt of her new book.
Harris, in an excerpt of “107 Days” published Wednesday in The Atlantic, writes that as questions swirled about whether the then-81-year-old Biden should seek reelection, she and others left the decision to him and first lady Jill Biden.
“Was it grace, or was it recklessness? In retrospect, I think it was recklessness,” Harris said.

Kate Middleton and Prince William will be moving their family out of Adelaide Cottage and into Forest Lodge in Windsor. However, the Prince and Princess of Wales's relocation to their "forever home" isn't free from scandal.
According to a new report, Kate and William's new Forest Lodge neighbors have allegedly been told they can't remain in their homes, suggesting the couple's "true colors" are on display in their decision to move.
The Mail on Sunday reported that, before Kate, William, and their children move into the "300-year-old Forest Lodge," a number of neighbors will need to move. In fact, "two separate families who lived in cottages next to the country mansion were asked to vacate their properties."

I'm midway through — loving it. It's like Dominick Dunne moving through the world of B-level Broadway and Hollywood from the 1950s to the 1980s.
Though it's a novel, many of the characters are real, especially Dick Kallman, a minor actor turned antiques dealer (his partner was Dolores Gray!) in the 1970s. After he's murdered by, presumably, a hustler, narrator Matt Liannetto, a Broadway pianist, flashes back to their uneasy friendship of decades.
Fun, fun, fun, witty and bitchy, especially when real people like Kaye Ballard and Dyan Cannon make appearances. And the antiques concern is called — MARY! — "Possessions of Prominence."
Anyone else read this?

Nina Hagen- she started as a high soprano in mid-70s then progressively her voice got lower and lower due to smoking, pregnancies and oversinging. She used to be able to belt up to A5 and use head voice up to G6 and nowadays she is a very low contralto- I heard her latest album in 2022 and she is comfortable to sing D2 in chest voice and goes as low as A1....Most men can't even sing a D2 let alone sing it comfortably.
Mariah Carey- started as a high soprano, consistently belting (not mixing) up to G#5 and using tons of whistle register in 7th octave and nowadays she is lower mezzo struggling with belting C5 and using playback as it's some basic need.
Christina Aguilera- started as soprano being able to hit FS and GS in pure chest voice and using head voice as high as Bb above soprano C and nowadays she barely sing above B4 and using falsetto up to C6.

The former Britain’s Got Talent winner opened up about the impact of his coming out in an interview Metro on Friday (17 June) and how being the pain of being rejected inspired his new single “Boys in the Street”.
Scott said that when he told his friends at the age of 13 they essentially unfriended him. “I told my friends and was totally abandoned,” he explained. “So I understand the pain that comes with being misunderstood and not feeling like you’re part of anything.
“I wanted to skateboard and BMX and do all the stuff that we did because I was 13, 14 years old. Girls were coming into our group and I was just like, I want to skateboard.”
Although Scott had already told his parents and they accepted him, the rejection from his friends left him questioning everything.
“It was very innocent for me at the time but then because I felt like I was different from them, all of a sudden I started scrutinising myself, got really down on myself to a point where I felt like I had to tell somebody and I’m a total mummy’s boy, so I trusted my mum” he said.
This experience stayed with Scott so much so that he penned new song “Boys in the Street” based on the rejection and abandonment he faced.
“The beautiful thing about the way that the song is crafted is because it talks about that pain and then it starts to get a bit better,” he said
This isn’t the first time Scott has written a song based on his experience, like most songwriters he pulls from his own life.
His most popular single to date, “No Matter What”, was actually about how Scott came out to his mother and she told him she would love him “no matter what”.
Scott said: “When I released that song, it was me making peace with it and realising that actually my story’s one of hundreds and thousands and I thought, if I put that out there considering the kind of platform I have, this is the perfect opportunity for me to highlight a really important topic.”

Brazil’s former President Jair Bolsonaro has been found guilty of attempting to overturn the country’s 2022 election with a plot prosecutors say included plans to assassinate the president-elect in a bid to cling to power.
Four out of five justices on a Brazilian Supreme Court panel voted to convict Bolsonaro on all five counts in the landmark case, and to sentence him to 27 years and three months in prison.
Bolsonaro has been convicted of plotting a coup d’état, taking part in an armed criminal organization, attempting to abolish Brazil’s democratic order by force, committing violent acts against state institutions and damaging protected public property during the storming of government buildings by his supporters on January 8, 2023.
Part of the coup plot, prosecutors alleged, involved a plan to potentially use explosives, weapons of war or poison to assassinate leftist President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, his Vice President Geraldo Alckmin and Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes, who oversaw Bolsonaro’s trial.
Is Brazil now getting 270% tariffs?

Critics raved about the chemistry between Michelle Pfeiffer and John Malkovich in the Oscar-winning film Dangerous Liaisons.
And now Malkovich has admitted for the first time that the on-screen passion between them spilled over into real life.
The 71-year-old, who played the amoral rich playboy the Vicomte de Valmont in the 1988 film, confirmed he had an affair with Pfeiffer – and that it had ended both their marriages.
Speaking on the Fashion Neurosis podcast, Malkovich said: 'It's not something I've ever really talked about. Put it this way, in the work I do, you make emotional bonds with people very quickly.
That's part of the work. 'For me, she was someone I valued greatly as a colleague, was great fun and moving and, with me, incredibly fair. And I certainly wasn't.
'I've learned over the course of my life that a great colleague is actually rarer than anything.
'And when that relationship becomes more than collegial or more than a friendship – even a profound friendship – then at least in my experience, and it might be my particular psychology or stupidity or ineptness or all of the above… you lose a great colleague.'
Pfeiffer filed for divorce from her husband Peter Horton in 1988, while Malkovich's marriage to actress Glenne Headly collapsed during filming.
A source who knew Headly told The Mail on Sunday: 'Glenne was no fool. She could see what was going on.
'The whole world was falling in love with Michelle Pfeiffer and so was her husband. She served him with divorce papers as soon as the movie wrapped.'
Dangerous Liaisons, based on the 18th-century French novel by Pierre Choderlos de Laclos, has become one of the most critically acclaimed costume dramas of all time because of its depiction of lust, manipulation and betrayal in aristocratic society.
Glenn Close plays the villainous Marquise de Merteuil who bets the Vicomte de Valmont (Malkovich) that he cannot seduce the virtuous Madame de Tourvel, played by Pfeiffer.
The real-life affair caused scandalous headlines, with the director Stephen Frears later telling The New York Times: '[Malkovich's] marriage was breaking up and during the movie he was having an affair with Michelle Pfeiffer.
'Dangerous Liaisons is about betrayal and lies and relationships unravelling. It was one of those times where reality and art intersect. It was overwhelming for John. Even for a man who delights in bad behaviour, that was a difficult time.'
The movie won three Oscars for costumes, art direction and adapted screenplay and was nominated for Best Picture.
Pfeiffer married TV writer David E Kelley in 1993. The couple have two children and are considered to have one of the happiest marriages in Hollywood.
The actress, 67, has maintained a dignified silence about the affair. Her publicist was approached for comment. Malkovich has been with director Nicoletta Peyran since 1989.

Good God what a bad movie! I watched it for the first time last night and couldn't believe how bad and dirty it was. I'm usually a fan of Michael Douglas but this was just horrible. Did we need to hear 100 times that his penis was in Demi Moore's mouth? Donald Sutherland is underused and just stands or sits and smiles. Demi is sort of hot, sort of fat and has a weird Gary Oldman in Dracula hairstyle going on. The movie is trying to say something about how women in power can be just as bad and abusive as men but it fails miserably by combining this message with some crappy, virtual reality nonsense that looks really dated.
And what's up with Michael Douglas and all the women in his movies? He fucks attractive women and then they turn on him and try to destroy him or kill him.

The Dark Enlightenment, also called the neo-reactionary movement (sometimes abbreviated to NRx), is an anti-democratic, anti-egalitarian, reactionary philosophical and political movement. The term "Dark Enlightenment" is a reaction to the Age of Enlightenment and apologia for the public view of the "Dark Ages".
The ideology generally rejects Whig historiography—the concept that history shows an inevitable progression towards greater liberty and enlightenment, culminating in liberal democracy and constitutional monarchy—in favor of a return to traditional societal constructs and forms of government, including absolute monarchism and other older forms of leadership such as cameralism.
In 2007 and 2008, software engineer Curtis Yarvin, writing under the pen name Mencius Moldbug, articulated what would develop into Dark Enlightenment thinking. Yarvin's theories were elaborated and expanded by philosopher Nick Land, who first coined the term Dark Enlightenment in his essay of the same name.
Central to Nick Land's ideas is a belief in freedom's incompatibility with democracy. Land drew inspiration from libertarians such as Peter Thiel, as indicated in his essay The Dark Enlightenment. The Dark Enlightenment has been described by journalists and commentators as alt-right and neo-fascist. A 2016 article in New York magazine notes that "Neoreaction has a number of different strains, but perhaps the most important is a form of post-libertarian futurism that, realizing that libertarians aren't likely to win any elections, argues against democracy in favor of authoritarian forms of government."
Andy Beckett stated that "NRx" supporters "believe in the replacement of modern nation-states, democracy and government bureaucracies by authoritarian city states, which on neoreaction blogs sound as much like idealised medieval kingdoms as they do modern enclaves such as Singapore."
According to criminal justice professor George Michael, neoreaction seeks to save its ideal of Western civilization through adoption of a monarchical, or CEO model of government to replace democracy. It also embraces the notion of "acceleration", first articulated by Vladimir Lenin as "worse is better", but in the neoreaction version, the creation and promotion of ever more societal crises hastens the adoption of the neoreactive state instead of a communist one.
Other focuses of neoreaction often include an idealization of physical fitness; a rationalist or utilitarian justification for social stratification based on intelligence, based on either heredity or meritocracy; an embrace of Classical philosophy, and traditional gender roles.

However, if reports are to be believed, there’s one person who’s less than thrilled about Jen’s upcoming nuptials. Rumors have been circulating for a while that Ben Affleck isn’t over his ex-wife. And now an insider has revealed that the Gone Girl actor is very much in his feelings about the news.
The source told Radar Online: “For Ben, it’s torture. He was clinging to the hope she’d have second thoughts and call it off, but now that’s clearly not happening. He has to get his head around the fact she’ll be officially wed and tied down to someone else who’s going to be living under the same roof and spending time with his kids.”
While there was talk of the exes getting close again following Ben’s split from Jennifer Lopez, it seems there was little truth to it.
So, what’s next for Ben? Are there any single Jens left in Hollywood?

"Matthew Dowd made comments that were inappropriate, insensitive and unacceptable," MSNBC President Rebecca Kutler said in a statement.
MSNBC has apologized and reportedly fired analyst Matthew Dowd over on-air comments he made about the fatal shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
Multiple media outlets, including Deadline, Variety and The Hollywood Reporter, reported that the network had fired Dowd, whose comments sparked backlash after Kirk, a close political ally of President Donald Trump, was shot and killed while speaking at an event at Utah Valley University on Sept. 10. Authorities were still searching for the shooter, as of early Sept. 11.
Republican and Democratic lawmakers alike were quick to denounce the shooting, which officials have described as a "targeted attack" and "political assassination."
In an interview on MSNBC about the shooting, Dowd said, in part: "You can't stop with these sort of awful thoughts you have and then saying these awful words and not expect awful actions to take place."

For eight years, between 2003 and 2011, the sitcom Two and a Half Men starring Charlie Sheen and Jon Cryer was one of the biggest shows on television — but production had to be halted in 2011 after Sheen's drug addiction spiraled, and the network eventually decided to fire him. (He was replaced by Ashton Kutcher, and the show continued for three more seasons.)
Now, Sheen, who turned 60 on Sept. 3 and has been sober for eight years, is looking back at those tumultuous times in both a memoir (The Book of Sheen, out Sept. 9) and the Netflix documentary (aka Charlie Sheen, streaming Sept. 10). In the new PEOPLE cover story, he shares how grateful he is for Cryer's compassion in the documentary.

I just got out from seeing Twinless and I was surprised by how touching and moving this film was. It’s promoted as this sort of dark comedy, and while it does have some humor it is also very sad, surprisingly so. A very sad but touching story about loss and grief and moving on.
Dylan O’Brien gives such a beautiful performance, so much so that I would love to see him get award acknowledgment for his performance (although it won’t ever happen). I actually loved it so much I want to watch it again.

They were careful with the explicit imagery — as usual. But did it make any difference?
Traditional news organizations were cautious in their midafternoon coverage of Charlie Kirk's assassination Wednesday not to depict the moment he was shot, instead showing video of him tossing a hat to his audience moments before, and panicked onlookers scattering wildly in the moments after.
In practical terms, though, it mattered little. Gory video of the shooting was available almost instantly online, from several angles, in slow-motion and real-time speed. Millions of people watched.

Welcome to Plathville star Barry Plath has seemingly been working on his revenge body as he has been hitting the gym hard following his split from ex Kim Plath.
The reality TV star, 55, looked unrecognizable when he was seen in a recent selfie with son Micah Plath looking ripped as the father-son duo showed off their bulked-up arms and chest on Saturday, August 26.
Since Barry and Kim announced their split in June 2022, he has found a new love: fitness. “Working out, that’s my new hobby,” the father of 10 said during the trailer for the upcoming season of the family’s reality series. “Blood flows in and everything gets bigger,” he laughed.
The former couple – who share children Ethan, Hosanna, Micah, Moriah, Lydia, Isaac, Amber, Cassia, Mercy and Joshua – shocked fans when they separated after 24 years of marriage. “After considerable thought and discussion, we have decided to end our marriage,” Kim and Barry told People in a joint statement at the time. “While this was not an easy decision, we know it’s the best choice for both of us. We have been through many highs and lows in our 24 years of marriage and as we navigate this new chapter in our lives, we will co-parent our amazing children.”
Prior to their announcement, the pair’s marital struggles played out during season 4 of the TLC series. They revealed they had been living separately for “a while” after Kim told her husband she wasn’t “happy.”
“One thing I thought wouldn’t ever be shaken was us. Now it’s totally shaken up. It’s just really sad. It’s a tragedy,” he told Kim. Kim later explained that she previously felt ignored by her husband when she tried to discuss their marital issues.
“Now it’s gotten to the point where I’m ready to leave the marriage, now he cares,” she added. “But I feel like if I was really worth it, he would have listened earlier.”
While Kim has seemingly moved on from their marriage, hinting at a new relationship in the trailer for the upcoming season, Barry has taken on the role of single parent as he cares for the former couple’s younger children.
“This man right here sets a real high standard for men in my life! I never really realized how important the role that a father plays in his daughter’s life is till I started restoring my relationship with my dad,” daughter Moriah Plath gushed about her father via Instagram in May. “My dad has grown so so much as a person and father and it’s changed my life. I guess the best way to put it is I’m secure! I feel priceless, and I am the most confident in who I am than I have ever been in my life.”

It marks the first time that the father and son have met in person since February 2024, days after King Charles, 76, revealed he was being treated for an undisclosed cancer.
The reunion was a landmark moment for the father and son. Those close to Prince Harry have said that King Charles was not taking his calls, and any messages were left unanswered. Harry has expressed his desire to begin steps towards a rapprochement, telling BBC News in May that he would love a "reconciliation."

What a waste of time this film was. It was so bad. God Emily Blunt’s acting was terrible. Just terrible! And Justin Theroux as the bad guy? Who didn’t see that coming from a mile away?
They were very obviously trying to capture what Gone Girl did before it, but failed.
Emily Blunt doesn’t work as a lead but Hollywood keeps pushing her.
Also WHET Haley Bennett? She was being pushed as the next big thing for a second, and suddenly cast in tons of things then out of nowhere she vanished.

50 Years ago on September 8, 1975, CBS premiered the second MTM spin-off in two years, when 'Phyllis' aired starring Cloris Leachman. A year earlier, CBS spun-off costar Valerie Harper from TMTMS into 'Rhoda', the most successful 'new show' of the 1974-75 season. Leachman, an Oscar winning actress, was left on the show playing 'second banana' to star MTM, and was making noise about 'leaving' the show after that season and possibly starring in her own show on another network. CBS panicked, not wanting to lose Leachman, and gave in to her request to star in her own sitcom by spinning her off into her own series. Her show was best with problems from the beginning, when one of the costars on the show was shot to death shortly after filming the third episode. In the first season, the show tried different characters to gel with Leachman, but nothing worked. Ratings were solid, thanks to being sandwiched between the second season of 'Rhoda' and the fourth season of 'All in the Family'. A complete overhaul in season 2 didn't help and ratings fell. The show was canceled at the end of the second season, and aired its last episode just days before Leachman would make her final appearance on TV as 'Phyllis' when she guested on the final episode of TMTMS.

First of all, what happened to the gossip? When did it really start to change?
I've been coming to DL since the early 2000s---back when it was free. I maybe posted a handful of times until more recently. Even when I used to pop in around 2014-2015, it seemed substantively different. There were probably less women--- banal comments like "Fuck (insert celeb name)" used to be less typical, a moralistic tone less frequently adopted.
I don't mind the political stuff really (I'm a political creature myself---wasn't the case back when I first found DL), but I do think that it used to skew much towards legit gossip and the cerebral, paradoxically.

“There's no jealousy, but there is a sadness that maybe there wasn't an opportunity for them to experience it,” Julianne continued of her sisters. “They're so happy, so, so, so happy. They have great lives, and they love their life. But, we had an opportunity that they didn't have. And it's hard.”

It’s true: I do consider my friends my family. I only have one family member left, and they’re living with dementia, so my friends are really all I have. But even when my family was still alive, I always considered my friends to be family.
But that got me to thinking. What’s the point of having friends if you don’t treat them like family? Maybe it’s a gay thing because we had to make our own families.

I know we are all sick to death of him. "Another Dump Thread"... yes. But we can't avoid him. His name is on every 2 out of 3 headlines, his orange ugly face is everywhere. It just keeps getting worse. I refuse to write his real name. Part of that is deliberately to be disrespectful. (Fortunately, there are so many nasty variations that can be made to denigrate him). But I'm also slightly paranoid, and I don't want google searches tracking my online activity.
But I thought it might be therapeutic for some of us to start an all-out hate thread! So this is for those of us, like me, who just can't take it anymore. Here's a safe place, (hopefully), to post how you really feel. Just get it out of your system! On Drumpf, his rotten kids, his nasty, Nazi administration, whoever. Post any horrible denigrating photos you come across. I also advise, like me, you don't use his actual name. Be creative with whatever crude variation you come up with.

I just saw a preview showing of this movie opening on Friday.
It's definitely the best of all the movies, most of which have been terrible. You remember why you love all the characters. As cliched as it sounds--you'll laugh and you'll cry,
It's about handing down duties to the next generation --both upstairs and downstairs. I loved it!

I'll start. I hate it when characters die and are brought back to life by some form of magic. It's been a constant especially in sci-fi and horror films. It kills the suspense because what it means is no one is at risk.

A judge in a wig and gown beats an unarmed protester with a gavel in a new work by Banksy at the Royal Courts of Justice, which has already been covered up. The artwork, which is on an external wall of the Queen’s Building, part of the Royal Courts of Justice complex, has been concealed by large sheets of black plastic and two metal barriers.
The artist confirmed he is responsible for the work with a post on Instagram, showing the graffiti before it was covered over. The latest work comes after almost 900 demonstrators were arrested for protesting against the banning of Palestine Action as a terror group in central London on Saturday. Several others have previously been charged with allegedly expressing support for the group, which was proscribed under anti-terror laws by then-home secretary Yvette Cooper earlier this year.

“Nepal’s prime minister has resigned after more than a dozen people were killed and hundreds injured during youth-led protests sparked by a government ban on social media platforms, widespread corruption, and poor economic opportunities.
Security forces unleashed live ammunition, water cannons, and tear gas over protests in several cities, according to news agency Reuters. At least 22 people have been killed, Dr. Mohan Regmi, the executive director at Civil Service Hospital in Kathmandu, told CNN on Tuesday.“

I thought Republicans were opposed to government handouts?
BROOKLAND, Ark. (KAIT) - Farmers from across the state are asking for help before it’s too late.
Hundreds of farmers gathered in Brookland to speak with representatives of Arkansas leaders to share with them their urgent plight: the difficulties they face in farming today.
Many farmers spoke out at the meeting.
Their message was straightforward: We need help, and we need it now.
[bold] “Mr. Trump, you looked at me and said, ‘I love you,’” Woodruff County farmer Chris King said. “Mr. Trump, I need to see the fruit of your love.” [/bold]
...
Brown said one issue that rounds out all the problems farmers are facing: tariffs.
“I think the tariffs are the ice cream on the cake of a perfect storm,” said Brown. “When you try and sell a product, okay, U.S. soybeans leaving New Orleans without the tariff to China are cheaper than Brazilian soybeans, at the current market. But when you put the tariff on top of them, Brazilian beans are cheaper.”
What can be done to help farmers?
[bold] “In the short term, they have no choice but to mail us a check,” [/bold] said Brown. “I don’t know a farmer that likes the check program. Nobody wants to take the taxpayer dollars, but nobody wants to go broke, nobody wants to lose everything. Long term, we have to have options, markets, and places to sell our product.”

With a new documentary and a Broadway revival in 2026, the cult classic is more boundary-pushing than ever.
It’s been 50 years since The Rocky Horror Show first did the Time Warp (again). While the mind flip of a musical remains searingly relevant in today’s cultural landscape, its journey from a 60-seat theatre in London to more cinema screens than could ever possibly be tallied hasn’t exactly been A to B to C. Now, for the first time, that journey has been preserved in the form of an endearingly personal documentary.
Titled 'Strange Journey: The Story of Rocky Horror,' the 89-minute doc is directed by Linus O’Brien (son of Rocky Horror’s originating supernova Richard O'Brien), and features intimate archival recordings from Rocky Horror history, from its earliest whispers to its most raucous fan events. Interspersed are interviews with many of the stage show (and the Rocky Horror Picture Show) stars, including Tim Curry, Susan Sarandon, Barry Bostwick, and of course, Richard O’Brien.

Ellison’s fortune was up $101 billion mid-morning after the company’s revenue forecasts for the next five years caused its market value to rise 44% to more than $959 billion.
The increase puts Ellison’s estimated fortune at $393 billion, per Bloomberg Billionaires Index, ahead of Musk, who is worth $385 billion. The rise marks the sharpest one-day rise ever for a member of the index, the outlet reported.

Gen Xers were also born in an in-between era after women entered the workforce and before the advent of helicopter parenting. They fell through the cracks and were often left on their own. That’s a big reason why they have a reputation for being resourceful and independent. They are also known to be a bit cynical and sarcastic, a trait that comes from the economic and social tumult they experienced as children.

Late iconic diva Donna Summer is back on Billboard’s charts, as “Run,” co-billed with veteran writer-producer Toby Gad, debuts at No. 30 on the Adult Contemporary radio ranking (dated Sept. 13).
The song marks the first appearance on a Billboard airplay chart for Summer, who passed away in 2012, since 2008, when she also hit AC with “Sand on My Feet,” which spent a week at No. 30 on the chart dated that Sept. 20. (Her span between entries, thus, marks a week shy of 17 years.)
Summer strutted to superstar status in the ‘70s, arriving with “Love To Love You Baby,” which reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in February 1976. She earned all four of her No. 1s through the end of the decade: “MacArthur Park” (for three weeks in 1978), “Hot Stuff” (three, 1979), “Bad Girls” (five, 1979) and “No More Tears (Enough Is Enough),” her all-star team-up with Barbra Streisand (two, 1979). That song made history as the first No. 1 duet between two women soloists.
Summer upped her career count to 14 Hot 100 top 10s, last reaching the region with “This Time I Know It’s for Real” (No. 7, 1989).
With “Run,” Gad makes his first Billboard chart visit as a billed artist, augmenting a career that includes two Hot 100 No. 1s as a co-writer: Fergie’s “Big Girls Don’t Cry” (for seven weeks in 2007) and John Legend’s “All of Me” (three, 2014). He co-wrote and co-produced two other enduring top 10s: Beyoncé’s “If I Were a Boy” (No. 3, 2008) and Demi Lovato’s “Skyscraper” (No. 10, 2011).
“Run” first began being promoted to AC radio in June, by Kite Records. Originally released as a midtempo track, a new disco-flavored mix arrived today (Sept. 9). Gad and Summer originally worked on the song for her final studio album, 2008’s Crayons, although it ultimately didn’t make the tracklist.
“Donna was funny, such a warm spirit — we instantly connected,” Gad told Billboard following the release of “Run.” “I was a little nervous at first working with such an icon, but Donna opened up to me immediately as I showed her my first ideas. She loved to crack jokes and had such an immediate sense of humor. She enjoyed big hugs and on the first day it felt like she had already decided that I was part of her family.” —Gary Trust

Directed by: Edward Dmytryk.
Written by: Edward Anhalt, based on the 1948 novel of the same name by Irving Shaw.
Starring: Marlon Brando, Montgomery Clift and Dean Martin. Co-Starring: Hope Lange, Barbara Rush, May Britt, Maximilian Schell, Dora Doll, Lee Van Cleef, Arthur Franz.
Synopsis: "The destiny of three soldiers during World War II. The German officer Christian Diestl approves less and less of the war. Jewish-American Noah Ackerman deals with anti-Semitism at home and in the army while entertainer Michael Whiteacre transforms from playboy to hero."
Normally, I'm not that fond of WWII epic films, but this one caught my attention for having both Brando and Monty in it, even though they don't share a frame together during the whole film.
I wonder if there was some "backstage action" between Brando and Monty.

I have no idea who this chick is. Will I listen to her music or follow her career? Probably not. Do I like the song, "Revolving Door?" Meh.. It's basically the Pussy Cat Dolls's "Buttons." But I do know her name now. And I commend her for the sheer bravery it takes to pull off a performance like this that could have been career ending (especially in this day and age) if one thing had gone wrong. If nothing else, this took a lot of hard work and guts to accomplish and I appreciate the pure spectacle of it all.
VMA performances serve two purposes. Either they launch an already established star into the entertainment stratosphere - like Madonna's Marie Antoinette "Vogue" Performance or Britney's snake charmer "Slave 4 U." Or they serve to announce and "Unknown" to the world - like Alanis Morrisettes' "You Outta Know." This was Tate McRae's announcement to the world. Good on her for understanding what needed to be done and putting in the work.

Speaker Johnson casually mentioned that Trump was an FBI informant on Epstein. Odd. Slip of the tongue? TPM’s Josh Marshall thinks not.
He thinks part of what has been hidden in the unreleased files is Trump’s role in the first federal indictment of Epstein. The one that resulted in a sweetheart deal from US Attorney Alex Acosta. He thinks MAGA leadership knows that Trump’s being the informant is going to come out and they are laying the groundwork to present Trump as a hero, not a rat. But as Marshall points out, you can’t inform on something you don’t know about.
Michael Wolff’s Epstein interviews suggest that after Trump went behind Epstein’s back to purchase a Palm Brach mansion Epstein planned to buy, Epstein threatened to reveal that the purchase was part of a Russian oligarch’s money laundering scheme, and Trump went to the FBI on Epstein’s sex trafficking.
Stay tuned.

Democrat James Walkinshaw will win a special election in Virginia’s 11th Congressional District, CNN’s Decision Desk projects, bolstering Democratic numbers in the House and cutting down on an already slim Republican majority.
With Tuesday’s results, House Speaker Mike Johnson will now only be able to afford to lose two Republicans on party-line votes as opposed to three.
The election in the 11th Congressional District is being held to fill longtime Democratic Rep. Gerry Connolly’s seat. Connolly died from cancer in May.
Walkinshaw, Connolly’s former chief of staff and a Fairfax County supervisor, was heavily favored. Walkinshaw faced Republican Stewart Whitson, a military veteran and former FBI special agent currently working as a lobbyist.
The arrival of those Democrats could mean a timely advantage for House members looking to force a vote to release the Jeffrey Epstein files. The bipartisan discharge petition led by Republican Rep. Thomas Massie and Democratic Rep. Ro Khanna needs 218 signatures to move forward, and the congressmen maintain they have 216 votes so far without Walkinshaw and the likely Democratic Arizona member joining the chamber this month.

Former Vice President Mike Pence has joined the sea of Republicans calling on the Trump administration to release the Epstein files.
"I think the time has come for the administration to release all of the files regarding Jeffrey Epstein's investigation and prosecution," Pence told CBS News on Wednesday. "It's important that we protect the names of the victims. They should be excluded from any disclosure."
“I think that anyone who participated or was associated with this despicable man ought to be held up to public scrutiny,” he continued. "I just think we ought to get the facts to the American people, and I've always believed in transparency.”

Despite LGBTQ activists decrying its limitations, the proposal drew near-universal criticism from the pro-Beijing politicians that dominate Hong Kong's legislature.

Don’t know how to play this game but I’m willing to learn but people with the word “red” in their name can rarely be taught !!! I see from a distance it’s sacred. Some respect it, some destroy it. Most enjoy the intense range of intelligence in it … Some like it done in silence … Some like how loud the silence gets … Some are just bored. Some like me have never tried and honestly don’t care to !!! But why do my eyes feel like I go to another world when I see the game ??? Is it because people care ???

That you still listen to, long after watching the film…
For me?
The Brutalist soundtrack resonates.
I love the scene when Lazlo is reaching America, and the horns start blaring triumphantly, as he and the viewer see the Statue of Liberty.
The music accurately describes how so many must have felt when first seeing the statue!
How about you, DL? What soundtrack(s) is/are your favorite(s)?

A lot of people in the comments are confirming this -- saying that when they saw Gladys in concert sometime within the past two years she was showing obvious signs of deterioration -- confusion, forgetting to sing entirely.
How terrible. If this is true how can this tour continue?

Last weekend, my friends and I were discussing weird game shows. I described one, and no one else remembered it. In fact, the final assessment was I was making it up or I have become insane. Someone come to my defense.
What I remember...
1. It was a BBC production airing on BBC America
2. Four people were vying for 50,000 pounds or whatever
3. A group of random people were to decide which person would get the money.
4. Round one, the "judges" decided who would be excused based just on looks
5. The second round, a video of each remaining contestant was shown and another was voted off
6. The third round, the judges were allowed to ask questions of the remaining contestants and then decide between the two
7. The host was a brown haired woman named Fern. I think.
The joke of the show was occasionally, they would kick off a young person who was there to help pay for chemotherapy for her mother because she looked too sexy, and then the winner would admit they were there for a late-in-life trip to Ibiza to get laid.
I have tried searching to no avail. Anyone else remember, or am I actually crazy?

Now or never, Chuck.
Ezra Klein gives Democrats the rationale for allowing a government shutdown.
“I want to be very clear about what I am saying here. Donald Trump is corrupting the government — he is using it to hound his enemies, to line his pockets and to entrench his own power. He is corrupting it the way the Mafia would corrupt the industries it controlled. You could still, under Mafia rule, get the trash picked up or buy construction materials. But the point of those industries had become the preservation and expansion of the Mafia’s power and wealth.”
“This is what Trump is doing to the government. This is what Democrats cannot fund. This is what they have to try to stop.”

Facing growing political pressure, Texas A&M University President Mark A. Welsh III announced Monday evening that the dean and department head overseeing a children’s literature course at the center of a viral recording were going to be removed, saying they approved plans to teach material inconsistent with the published course description.
The announcement came after a video circulated online Monday showing a student confronting a professor over LGBTQ-related content in the class, sparking backlash from Republican lawmakers and calls for investigations, a response from the U.S. Department of Justice, and a statement from the Texas A&M System chancellor pledging to discipline the professor.
“Our students use the published information in the course catalog to make important decisions about the courses they take in pursuit of their degrees,” Welsh said in a statement posted to X, formerly known as Twitter, late Monday. “If we allow different course content to be taught from what is advertised, we let our students down. When it comes to our academic offerings, we must keep our word to our students and to the state of Texas."
It was not immediately clear Monday whether the College of Arts and Sciences dean or department head will remain employed at the university in other roles.

But he also predicts that the shady business dealings, pardons for cash, and cooked books will come into view - I'm not sure how. If you ask me, the MAGA cult would rather burn records than show them to the world. He predicts Trump's law enforcement goons (Bondi, Patel, Bongino, etc.) will end up going to jail for knowingly breaking so many laws for Trump.
And America will finally realize how deeply they've been scammed by this mafia don and his endless greed. People will piss on his grave.

I hadn’t seen it in years before tonight, and it holds up beautifully. It’s a very good “horror” film that is saying something more. It also is creative and still feels different than most films in the genre. It has a great screenplay and script, and does a terrific job at building a strong, dark atmosphere.
Also, James Woods ass looked hot in this and Debbie Harry looked beautiful. She was a huge rock star! Why did Madonna act like she was unique for being a pop star who showed tits? Debbie did it first.

Is Roberts being blackmailed over his boyfriend? Does that explain the fascism? Many people are saying that.
He had been a “confirmed bachelor” for 40 years until he met his future wife on a gay beach. Since their children were adopted there is no evidence that the marriage was ever consummated. He has, however, received millions of dollars in payoffs through her employment as a head hunter for many of America’s largest law firms.
Now, a former colleague of Mrs. Roberts has raised concerns that her recruiting work poses potential ethics issues for the chief justice. Seeking an inquiry, the ex-colleague has provided records to the Justice Department and Congress indicating Mrs. Roberts has been paid millions of dollars in commissions for placing lawyers at firms — some of which have business before the Supreme Court, according to a letter obtained by The New York Times.

Local man gets 25-year prison sentence for multiple sex abuse, rape crimes
Joshua Lee Quattlebum, 28, sentenced for offenses taking place in April and May 2023 Central Oregonian Sep 8, 2023
A Crook County man facing multiple sex abuse and rape changes was recently sentenced to 25 years in prison.
According to Crook County District Attorney Kari Hathorn, 28-year-old Joshua Lee Quattlebum was sentenced by Circuit Court Judge Daina Vitolins during a hearing at the Crook County Courthouse on Aug. 25. The sentence included no eligibility for any form of early release from custody, a provision for 10 years of post-prison supervision and registration as a sex offender. The sentence was the result of a trial in which the jury returned a guilty verdict on Aug. 22.
The jury found Quattlebum had committed two counts of first-degree rape, first degree sodomy, first-degree unlawful sexual abuse, two counts of second-degree unlawful sexual abuse, endangering the welfare of a minor, harassment and disorderly conduct. The case was investigated by the Prineville Police Department, with Officer Hunter Trueax, Officer Daniel Yanes and Detective Sergeant Jonathan Adkins leading the investigation, interviewing multiple witnesses, obtaining physical evidence and arresting Quattlebum. The victim in this case is an adult and known to Quattlebum. The defendant was convicted of forcing the adult victim to engage in sexual conduct during multiple separate incidents in April and May 2023. During the sentencing, the court found upward enhancement factors including deliberate cruelty to the victim, the offense including actual violence and Quattlebum’s involvement in prior similar offenses, as well as lack of remorse on several counts. In 2015, Quattlebum was convicted of first-degree attempted sodomy and first-degree sex abuse for assaulting two different victims under the age of 14.
The State of Oregon was represented by Chief Deputy District Attorney Laura Moszer. Vitolins presided over the case.
“The Crook County District Attorney’s Office is appreciative of the outstanding efforts of our community partners in achieving a successful prosecution of this case,” Hathorn said.

[quote]The Trump administration will move to pull the COVID vaccine off the U.S. market “within months,” one of Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s closest associates has told the Daily Beast.
[quote]Dr. Aseem Malhotra, a British cardiologist who has repeatedly claimed in the face of scientific consensus that the vaccines are more dangerous than the virus, told the Daily Beast that Kennedy’s stance is shared by “influential” members of President Donald Trump’s family. Like Kennedy himself, no Trumps hold any scientific qualifications.
[quote]He told the Beast that many of those closest to RFK Jr. have told him they “cannot understand” why the vaccine continues to be prescribed, and that a decision to remove the vaccine from the U.S. market pending further research will come “within months,” even if it is likely to cause “fear of chaos” and bring with it major legal ramifications.
[quote]Malhotra said skepticism among Kennedy’s circle of the COVID-19 jab is driven by a 2022 paper by a group of physicians and university professors and researchers, which appeared in the journal Vaccine.
[quote]However, the study has been dismissed by large parts of the medical community, who say it underestimates the benefits of COVID-19 vaccines and overstates risks due to methodological flaws, biased data selection, and ignoring broader public health impacts.
[quote]The prediction of a drastic move against the COVID vaccine comes after Kennedy canceled $500 million in funding for the development of mRNA vaccines.
[quote]Days after canceling the funding, the HHS secretary—criticized for describing the COVID shot as “the deadliest vaccine ever made”—stated during a press conference his belief that the mRNA COVID-19 vaccine was dangerous and can cause “injuries” including myocarditis, an inflammation of the heart that can lead to health issues ranging from fatigue to cardiac arrest.
[quote]At the same time the scientifically unqualified Kennedy scion wrongly claimed there is no evidence football leads to brain damage.
[quote]Vaccine skepticism took a sinister turn earlier this month when an anti-vaxxer opened fire on the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), killing a police officer. Investigators believe the man targeted the CDC over his hatred of the COVID-19 vaccine, apparently convinced he was sick—or would become sick—because of it.
[quote]On Wednesday, more than 750 current and former staff members from the CDC, HHS and National Institutes of Health (NIH) accused Kennedy of spreading dangerous misinformation that fueled mistrust and contributed to the CDC HQ shooting, demanding by Sept. 2 that he stop, affirm CDC scientific integrity, and guarantee workforce safety.
I heard about this a week ago and hoped it was an unfounded rumor. For at least a week, CVS hasn't allowed you to schedule an appointment for existing COVID vaccines, the scheduling page says: "We are expecting an updated COVID vaccine for the 2025-2026 season to be approved in the coming days. Appointments will be available for the updated vaccine as soon as it is approved. Please check back here for the latest update."

The other thread about Audrey Hepburn, Shirley Jones, and My Fair Lady got me thinking…
What would be a gay version of My Fair Lady? How would that work?
Instead of Eliza, you have Elio. He is a very femme, flamboyant aspiring actor, obviously gay. Played by Timothee Chalomet.
Kevin Spacey plays Henry Higgins.. Elio desperately wants to be a leading man in Hollywood, but they won’t take him because he can’t act straight.
Kevin Spacey teaches him to act straight. When they go to a Hollywood party, Elio is passed off as a womanizer and gets a reputation for fucking many women and being a real pussy pounder!
Perhaps the character of Freddy is gender swapped and it’s a girl who falls head over heels with Elio.
Thoughts? Want to build on this?

Not the most popular, most likable, most centered candidate. Not one who checks the most boxes. Not one who is hard left but plays sports and works on cars in their garage. And there is no such thing as the blue wall anymore, they’re just swing states.
Doesn’t have to be a white male as we’ve seen them losing to other white men consecutive times in a row. We need someone who can win the demographics that were always safe in swing states. That is bringing young apolitical people back to the party. Brining black and Latino men back to the party. That is appealing to non educated Gen X white women. Bring back constituencies that always favored the democratic candidate in national elections. The “independent” voter— center right mid-upper middle class white men who swing from Republican to Democrat in elections—Kamala won them.

1/ I’ve decided that queer nightlife has denominations. Stay with me, because it’s church, kids. ⛪️✨
2/ Horse Meat Disco → Westminster Abbey. Grand, historic, full of ceremony. You walk in and immediately think: this is sacred space. Even the sweat feels consecrated.
3/ The Eagle → a cathedral crypt. Dim, leather-scented, filled with centuries of whispered prayers (and a few very loud moans). Faith is tactile here.
4/ Atlantis cruises → St. Peter’s Basilica on Easter. Opulent, overwhelming, the collective gathered in one roaring hymn of shirtless men and laser lights.
5/ Me? I’m not Martin Luther nailing a manifesto to the bathroom stall door. I’m just a pilgrim who found belonging in unlikely chapels.
6/ Which sect am I? Depends on the night, but the creed is the same: joy is sacred, chosen family is communion, and the dance floor is an altar. 🌈🪩

I am not a fan of Gladwell’s, but I do empathise with him. Yes, he was dishonest but at a time when people faced losing friends and work, I understand why he was not forthcoming.
Of the people who did politely or impolitely support women I sport, most had a lifetime of contrarian publicity behind them, like Germaine Greer and Richard Dawkins, or were too big to cancel by virtue of being The Best Selling Writer In The Entire World. And even Rowling received daily death and rape threats.
I have what I believe is a fairly popular view on the subject - trans folks and persons with Differences Of Sex Development do require special protections and encouragement in sports and so do, separately, bio women. But I would never say so in public or even amongst friendly acquaintances at a dinner. And certainly not at work, which would be inappropriate anyway.
By the way, the podcast he was interviewed on, The Real Science Of Sport, is run by a journalist and a sports scientist and I highly recommend it.

She did her own singing in the Broadway show. Why wasn’t her singing sufficient for the movie.
And since they dubbed her, why didn’t they just put “Bali Hai” in a soprano range? Bali Hai could’ve been the dramatic “Climb Ev’ry Mountain” of South Pacific if it had been performed in a higher, dramatic, operatic range. But while it’s perhaps the signature motif of South Pacific, the actual number is rather underwhelming.
