I have never met a single republican who likes Trump

But we're all supposed to believe they are lining up for him because they don't like shoplifting at their local retail outlet. Despite the rampant corruption and criminality of EVERY SINGLE REPUBLICAN politician and Supreme Court Justice.

by Anonymousreply 18May 2, 2024 5:33 AM

They like his big fat tax cut and his Supreme Court appointments, which will be paying off conservative dividends for decades to come. And him pissing off the libs on an hourly basis. They like that, too.

The unfortunate reality is that many of them will tell you they don't like him, then vote for him once they are in the privacy of the voting booth. They will voice their opinions based on sociability, but cast their vote based on their various resentments.

The Republican cult has descended into simple fear and loathing. They're afraid they're losing their influence and power, and they hate the people who are ascendant (which is everyone except them, in their view). Of course the Republicans have taken the uneducated and white working class vote: life is easier when you don't have to think for yourself, can rely on an authority figure to make you feel protected (because the face-eating leopard party won't eat [italic]my[/italic] face), and are given a feeling of superiority because they and only they can see the "reality" that their spin doctors provide them. It's why conspiracy theories abound among conservatives: nothing is as it seems, there's always a final twist to the story that makes it all make sense, and the forces of evil are aligned against them. Despite reality showing them time and again that life is complicated, they just don't want to live in the real world.

[quote]They will voice their opinions based on sociability, but cast their vote based on their various resentments.

And then deny it to their dying day.

by Anonymousreply 4May 1, 2024 2:22 PM

They "hold their nose" in the voting booth and vote for him because they know that with his appeal to the Republican base and contempt for democratic norms he's the best hope for Republicans' long-time goals of plutocracy, abolishing Social Security, etc.

by Anonymousreply 5May 1, 2024 2:25 PM

All those "I could never vote for a convicted felon" people the polls are telling us about are lying through their teeth. They will vote for him when the time comes and they will do it with a grin, too.

by Anonymousreply 6May 1, 2024 2:28 PM

So OP because you personally haven’t experienced something, it does not exist.

Biden has been encouraged to run for reelection by people like OP. Now he will deliver the country to Trump.

by Anonymousreply 7May 1, 2024 2:29 PM

OP do you meet a lot of GOP that like Biden or progressive, not moderate, but progressive policies?

Many are voting against Biden and his far to woke and overly sensitive pussy followers more than they are voting for Trump.

Many certainly not all . And there are those that adore Trump because of the shit he throws and what he says about Bidens simpleton weak liberal anti American followers.

And the polls have already shown us that those who said they would not vote for a convicted trump have changed their minds since last august when asked.

by Anonymousreply 8May 1, 2024 2:32 PM

The resident Trump enablers have now chimed in, once again begging for attention.

by Anonymousreply 9May 1, 2024 3:17 PM

OP doesn’t know anyone outside of his bubble.

by Anonymousreply 10May 1, 2024 3:19 PM

There’s a thread about Mark Cuban stating he will vote Biden even if Biden is receiving last rites. That’s what most American voters do, vote for their candidate no matter what.

by Anonymousreply 11May 1, 2024 4:35 PM

Dump is definitely making his pitch to the racists again. He claims there is an 'anti-white feeling' in America. A corrupt narcissist seditionist, wannabe-dictator whose white privilege is shocking to the conscience feels like this country that continues to offer him so much grace and latitude is 'anti-white'? After failing to improve anyone's life in his four years in office, enabling a pandemic to kill more than1,000,000 Americans and causing a financial crisis that his successor has to fix, he is right back to his 2016 racist appeals to the people who have suffered the most due to his failure and ineptitude.

by Anonymousreply 12May 1, 2024 4:50 PM

Yet, they will all vote for him!

by Anonymousreply 13May 1, 2024 4:57 PM

R12

Many Americans feel that way including many on DL. This is hardly a trump inspired message about whites. It’s a message thru he will use well .

And let’s face it many will make the sam argument there is an anti gay feeling in America, anti immigrant, anti POC anti anti anti

Those messages all have a receptive audience. And others who will believe those messages are crocks of shit.

by Anonymousreply 14May 1, 2024 5:06 PM

You don't know any working class people then.

by Anonymousreply 15May 1, 2024 5:10 PM

The trump base is driven by its hate of elites. Nothing they hate more than elites and some of the greatest most vocal haters of elites I have come across have been black male MAGA supporters.

Elites in this case being a very relative term. Its not race as much as it looks to outsiders.

by Anonymousreply 16May 1, 2024 5:16 PM

I know lots of working class people and not one of them supports Trump.

by Anonymousreply 17May 2, 2024 5:30 AM

James Madison said one of the dangers of a big republic is that the largest a republic it is, the easier it is to fake what it supposedly thinks. I think that's what the republicans have been doing for fifty years because they have never once given the public policies a majority of people support.
