American social media companies aren't allowed to operate in China, so why should the Chinese ones be allowed to operate in the US? Makes no sense, especially with the way China weaponises TikTok to further their own geopolitical goals. The whole society will benefit from banning that nonsense.

Good. It has become a modern day Der Sturmer, I hope it gets banned down under too. Its only appeal is for vapid idiots and for extremists. While it is true that not all TikTok content is toxic and/or vapid, any that does have some value can always be replicated on other better moderated social media platforms.

Where will all the Iranian and Russian propaganda and disinformation operatives go next I wonder?

I'm not a TikTok fan, however, I'm not buying the government's rationale of "protecting US national security" for this move. It's some other fuckery going on, here. Are there any other websites or social media apps that the US Government has banned? And using the argument that certain US apps are banned in China isn't exactly a good argument. China is literally a communist state.
