Latin America's new young male Authoritarian leaders

They're around 40, popular, handsome and strong armed against criminals.

But not everybody agrees with their tactics.

5 combined pubes between the two of em

by Anonymousreply 2April 24, 2024 10:30 AM

The main problem with these (young) populists – both on the right and on the left – is that they are usually unable to resist that one tactic which in the long term ruins their country's prospects, that is messing with the presidential terms.

[quote]El Salvador's top court has ruled that presidents can serve two consecutive terms, paving the way for leader Nayib Bukele to seek re-election in 2024. The judges behind the decision were appointed in May after the National Assembly, dominated by the president's party, sacked the previous justices.

They get high on their own farts and the people love them, so what could go wrong, right? You have no idea how lucky you are in the US where this is practically impossible to change. It would take a hardcore deplorable Supreme Court bench to reinterpret that constitutional provision.

Don't forget Mr. Chile.

Haha so funny to see the world's first millennial leaders being TOUGH on crime!

R6 Oh SHIT, that's what I meant

by Anonymousreply 7April 24, 2024 10:55 AM

This thread tastes like foreskin

by Anonymousreply 8April 24, 2024 10:55 AM

r5 I wouldn't bring up the Chile guy, he faceplanted hard with those constitutional changes. Believed he got elected because the people loved him so much, when actually they just hated the other guy more. His approval rating is in the toilet and I doubt he'll run again next year.

El Salvador's Bukele has all but eliminated gang violence.

Yes, it always starts with good news. Putin also ushered in a new era of prosperity for Russia back in the day. Problem is when they don't want to leave office.

by Anonymousreply 13April 24, 2024 11:20 AM

I'm all for hot young and hung latin presidents

by Anonymousreply 14April 24, 2024 11:27 AM

It has to be said that whatever Bukele is doing seems to be working, a 90% drop in homicide rates is not to be scoffed at

It will be interesting to see if the Ecuadorean cutie can achieve similar results, which will show whether Bukele's strategy can scale up/down and be adapted to different environments

Viva Bukele!

by Anonymousreply 16April 24, 2024 4:05 PM

[quote]It has to be said that whatever Bukele is doing seems to be working

He only has one trick and that's suspending the habeas corpus for any man seen sporting gang tattoos and locking him up. That would yield a significant drop in crime rates anywhere, so it's not exactly rocket science.

Each society decides for itself whether an extreme measure like that is worth is. Ecuador has decided it is, most other developed countries prefer to stick to fundamental rights. It's debatable whether there's no right or wrong here because following that argument, you can soon find yourself defending countries that are locking up homosexuals. You know, because "it's their culture."

by Anonymousreply 17April 24, 2024 4:05 PM

[quote]which will show whether Bukele's strategy can scale up/down and be adapted to different environments

Pretty sure robbing people of their basic constitutional right to due process can be scaled up anywhere, yes. Pray it never happens in your country though, because you might soon find yourself on the wrong side of the prison cell, so to speak.

[quote]Ecuador has decided it is

*I meant El Salvador, not Ecuador

by Anonymousreply 19April 24, 2024 4:08 PM

REALLY well-said, R3.

by Anonymousreply 22April 27, 2024 4:49 AM

At least Salvadorians can go to a shopping mall or supermarket without fearing that some disturbed, bullied incel will shoot them with an AR-15 or AK-47.

by Anonymousreply 23April 27, 2024 4:55 AM

R23, Bukele has balls of steel for going up against MS-13.

by Anonymousreply 24April 27, 2024 4:58 AM

And so does Noboa for very vocally and openly going up against the drug cartels.

by Anonymousreply 25April 27, 2024 5:04 AM

They're popular for now.

by Anonymousreply 26April 29, 2024 7:39 AM

Why, I must simply lead a CoDel to meet these exciting new leaders at the cutting edge of democracy!

by Anonymousreply 27April 29, 2024 8:56 AM

The new Pinochets.

by Anonymousreply 28April 29, 2024 9:11 AM

All of them are hot! Not all are uncut, especially the younger ones-

by Anonymousreply 29April 29, 2024 10:42 AM

I love presidential man dates.

by Anonymousreply 30April 29, 2024 11:56 AM

He is also surprisingly of Palestinian and Greek lineage.

I hope MS-13 doesn't get him.

Handsome? Bless your generous heart, OP.

by Anonymousreply 34May 1, 2024 6:57 PM

R34, within the realm of politics -- which is teeming with a ton of FUGGOES apparently -- these two may as well be male models.

by Anonymousreply 35May 1, 2024 10:47 PM

Half of DL would go down on Hitler himself if he had a tidier face and a hairy pooper.

Something about the homo persecution complex drives some of us to pursue our oppressors, fantasize about them, and even service them sexually.

by Anonymousreply 36May 1, 2024 11:00 PM

R33 why is that surprising? No different than the rest of Latin America, or the U.S., or Australia and so on.

by Anonymousreply 37May 1, 2024 11:43 PM

R37, I don't think most Salvadorans have either ethnic background, thus it stands out a bit.

by Anonymousreply 38May 2, 2024 12:52 AM

There are lots of Salvadorans with non-local “ethnic backgrounds.”

by Anonymousreply 39May 2, 2024 12:58 AM

R39, really? I've never met one. And I know a lot.

by Anonymousreply 40May 2, 2024 12:59 AM

Yes, really.

by Anonymousreply 41May 2, 2024 1:07 AM

R41, mmmkay.

by Anonymousreply 42May 2, 2024 1:07 AM

[quote]Each society decides for itself whether an extreme measure like that is worth is. Ecuador has decided it is, most other developed countries prefer to stick to fundamental rights.

The people of El Salvador were living under terrorism for decades. They have finally gained their fundamental rights: the right to go about their daily lives ( and evenings) without fear of losing their lives.

by Anonymousreply 43May 2, 2024 1:19 AM

Just use Google to search for Arab, Palestinian and Southern European emigration to El Salvador. You might learn something new.

by Anonymousreply 44May 2, 2024 1:38 AM

If that’s too taxing, just try Wikipedia.

by Anonymousreply 45May 2, 2024 1:39 AM

R44, yes, dear. I'm aware of middle Eastern immigrants in places like Mexico (hi, Salma Hayek!) and Colombia (Shakira). El Salvador? That's new to me. But thanks anyway, cunt.
