British Conservatives push through controversial plan to send migrants to Rwanda

LONDON − A conservative majority in Britain's Parliament pushed through a controversial plan to deport asylum seekers to Rwanda, capping a fight that critics blasted as an expensive, inhumane and impractical way to deal with immigration.

British lawmakers won support Monday night with the measure aimed at satisfying one of Prime Minister Rishi Sunak's legislative priorities: "stopping the boats." Specifically, the small inflatable dinghies and even kayaks filled with thousands of migrants and asylum seekers who cross the English Channel each year from France.

Opponents noted the plan may cost more per head than a three-year stay at The Ritz; it may be incompatible with international human rights law. It may not even be, experts say, an effective policy.

It's unlikely to ever happen, the Tories just want to say they're doing something to "stop the boats". Then if it gets blocked they can blame it on someone else.

Are those cunts ever going to hold an election, or are they really going to wait until the last possible moment in January?

by Anonymousreply 2April 23, 2024 9:29 AM

R2 It certainly seems that way. I think Sunak sees calling an election any earlier would be akin to quitting, considering the Tories are almost certainly going to get a drubbing.

Also, in his mind, seeing (2022 - 2024) after his name in a list of Prime Ministers looks better than (2022 - 2023).

Apologies I meant (2022 - 2025) and (2022 - 2024) respectively!

Conservatives are kings of compromise

It hurts them more to jeer than to applaud

This idea follows on from the Australian Conservative Prime Minister John Howard from the 90's. Send the boat people and illegals off to Nauru. Manus or Christmas Islands to rot in hell until they are mentally broken.

Can we go too and be their King and Queen?

by Anonymousreply 7April 23, 2024 10:55 AM

Yes, Africa is nothing but your toilet, white people. Vast and lifeless, awaiting your refuse.

They are hateful scumbags. They can't resist taking one final dump on the floor before they're thrown out of office.

R9 That's definitely a good way of explaining it!

Rishi is preening himself, as he thinks he can now tick his "stop the boats" promise off, which is nonsense. But he's positioned it so that if/when this fails, it'll be out of his hands. It'll be everyone else's fault.
