WTF???Who choreographed that shit? Seriously. Do they have any idea how totally ridiculous they look, as if they were having seizures. Jeez.

No, but I love it! It reminds me of Elaine s dance on Seinfeld.

They did the dance on an episode of "The Amazing Mrs. Maisel" using the same choreography to the song "Pink Shoe Laces."

In the ‘70s there was a clothing store in my town catering to teens called “The Nitty Gritty.”

One of my favorite songs of the era.

I love that dance. They are dressed so proper and their chaotic gyrations and jerks must have driven the parents crazy. I'm sure it was unsettling. Like "grinding" was in later years.

Bobby Banas the lead dancer, choreographed this.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | April 23, 2024 3:22 AM |
That's Bobby Banas. I will fight anyone who doesn't recognize his awesomeness.

One of the boys is really giving it his all. Aggressive in the perfect suit and tie way.

The woman he is dancing with is Gina Trikonis, Goldie Hawn’s ex-sister-in-law.

Bobby Banas is the choreographer, so he's doing it the right way by being so aggressive and jerky, but I am always fascinated by the handsome man behind him who makes the same steps look so smooth.

Yes, OP, this dance is a classic. Bobby Banas, the choreographer, steals the show.

This should be a museum of 60s culture. It is so of its time.

He was in West Side Story if I recall correctly.

We've discussed this video on DL several times.

I don’t know what it is, but it sounds dirty.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | April 23, 2024 4:57 AM |
The "black" version was smooth and had more glide than steps.

I don’t understand why this is so celebrated. Banas choreographed it, but none of the other dancers have the ability to do it like him, so ultimately, it’s a failure as an integrated performance unless you’re viewing it as tongue-in-cheek. I agree with R12, the more I have seen this, the guy in the back right has the most appealing performance.

All of the men in this video seem very homosexual.
Also, they look like Niles Frasier.

R15. Your memory is fine. Banas played JoyBoy

In dance 💃 crazed America 🇺🇸 of the early to mid-1960s, the thing is a triumph. I wasn’t, but my guess is that you had to be there. It looks like it was a fun time for extroverts, at any rate.

Banas was straight but was a speed freak who died badly.
I always think the guy to the right is actually the better dancer.
The performance is really joyful. This is what Hairspray tried to capture.

Where do you see mention of his death. He is 2nd from left in these 2016 photos.

An updated version.

R24 What are you on about?
Banas is alive and kicking at a very youthful 90 years of age.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | April 23, 2024 5:43 PM |
R24 is wrong. Banas is alive and very healthy old man.
