Dave Matthews Band, Foreigner, Peter Frampton and Kool & the Gang will also be inducted at the Oct. 19 ceremony

Fifteen acts were nominated for this year’s Rock Hall and those who didn’t make the cut include Mariah Carey, Eric B. & Rakim, Sade, Jane’s Addiction, Lenny Kravitz, Oasis and Sinéad O’Connor, who died last year
by Anonymous | reply 1 | April 22, 2024 2:06 AM |
Joe Cocker better be next year.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | April 22, 2024 2:07 AM |
David Matthew’s Band had one hit song…..next year it will be Vanilla Ice, Clay Aiken, and Raquel Welch.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | April 22, 2024 2:11 AM |
Sad that Sade didn’t make the cut. They definitely had their own sound.

Is Janet Jackson still trying to get in?
by Anonymous | reply 5 | April 22, 2024 2:17 AM |
I knew Cher would get in after dissing them on Kelly Clarkson's show. She should've gotten in decades ago.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | April 22, 2024 2:19 AM |
Assholes!
by Anonymous | reply 7 | April 22, 2024 2:22 AM |
r6
Yes, she said they could go fuck themselves. She said she wouldn't accept it if it was offered.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | April 22, 2024 2:38 AM |
Not keen on Cher, Foreigner, or DMB. Cher wasn't a songwriter or producer, she was a great performer in her day but much more of a TV and movie personality than a musical one. Not sure she warrants inclusion.
Foreigner epitomized bland MOR classic late 70s album rock. If they are inducted, then why not Styx, Kansas or REO Speedwagon? Oasis - although never highly popular here in the US - had far more cultural impact and import.
I can mostly get onboard with the rest. Peter Frampton is a lovely man, one of the nicest in the business, for that reason alone I'm ok with him (that and his time with Humble Pie).

Yay for Dionne!!!! Kennedy Center and now RRHOF!
by Anonymous | reply 11 | April 22, 2024 2:49 AM |
Mary J. Blige before Lenny Kravitz?! That's interesting.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | April 22, 2024 2:50 AM |
I know I’m entitled but who are these bozos!
by Anonymous | reply 13 | April 22, 2024 2:51 AM |
Sinead O' Connor is worth 10 of everyone on that list.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | April 22, 2024 3:00 AM |
Interestingly, Dionne Warwick gets in, but they'll never induct Barbra, even though both were Pop singers back in the 60s. I'd say Barbra has been far more influential in music than Warwick.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | April 22, 2024 3:26 AM |
There should be a movie made about Big Mama Thorton.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | April 22, 2024 3:30 AM |
Thornton
by Anonymous | reply 17 | April 22, 2024 3:30 AM |
No Joe Cocker or Billy Idol - bummer
by Anonymous | reply 18 | April 22, 2024 3:34 AM |
Very happy to hear that Cher made it.
Sonny & Cher should have been inducted decades ago.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | April 22, 2024 3:37 AM |
Surprised they snubbed Mariah and picjed Mary Blige, But glad for Cher and Dionne.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | April 22, 2024 4:05 AM |
No offense, but how are Cher and Dionne Warwick rocknroll? They are pop singers.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | April 22, 2024 4:16 AM |
Mariah should not be in the hall of fame!
by Anonymous | reply 22 | April 22, 2024 4:17 AM |
^JLo……or someone she paid to lip sync, I mean write this for her.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | April 22, 2024 4:30 AM |
R21, Whitney and Madonna are in. Rock n Roll isn’t just mediocre white men.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | April 22, 2024 4:47 AM |
There are too many vital rock acts (no Joe Cocker? WTF?) missing to induct Ozzy as a solo artist.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | April 22, 2024 4:52 AM |
Who do we think will perform?
I can see Bruno Mars singing Get Down On It.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | April 22, 2024 4:53 AM |
Apparently rock and roll means pop, funk, hip-hop and rock.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | April 22, 2024 4:55 AM |
Also easy listening and jazz. They let all kinds of music in.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | April 22, 2024 5:03 AM |
They should just rename it the Music Hall of Fame to avoid the confusion.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | April 22, 2024 5:15 AM |
Taking bets on it R6. Will Chee actually refuse or just have someone else pick it up or will she give in and be there?
by Anonymous | reply 30 | April 22, 2024 5:28 AM |
R21. Among other of Cher's albums, her 1989 'Heart of Stone' is rock, not pop.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | April 22, 2024 5:53 AM |
Jeez, does that mean Sharon will try to make an American media comeback?
by Anonymous | reply 32 | April 22, 2024 6:23 AM |
The Dave Matthews won is so brotastic.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | April 22, 2024 6:37 AM |
At least Cher did rock.

[quote] Is Janet Jackson still trying to get in?
She’s already in.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | April 22, 2024 9:31 AM |
They finally had to put Janet in because she got rejected too many times.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | April 22, 2024 9:43 AM |
How many times was she rejected R36?
by Anonymous | reply 37 | April 22, 2024 9:45 AM |
I think she finally got in on the fifth try.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | April 22, 2024 9:48 AM |
Oh that's not too bad I suppose. Thanks for answering R38.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | April 22, 2024 9:50 AM |
The problem is the nature of rock itself, it is a bastard genre and as the first teen genre, highly commercialised and image conscious.
The RARHOF let in jazz, soul, country and rhythm and blues artists from its first years. (How could they not? Who else would be left) So I honestly don’t see allowing pop and hip-hop artists in a big deal.
The real paradigm shift will be when synth based electronic artists are consistently inducted.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | April 22, 2024 12:43 PM |
Do you think I can make it in next year?
by Anonymous | reply 41 | April 22, 2024 1:05 PM |
If Sheryl Crow is in, Kim Carnes should be.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | April 22, 2024 3:00 PM |

Dionne recorded (then) contemporary songs by Bacharach/David. Barbra recorded Tin Pan Alley standards and showtunes. ONJ, Karen Carpenter, Dusty Springfield and Linda Ronstadt cited Dionne as an influence.

Janet wad inducted the same year as Stevie Nicks...but you knew that.

Janet is in the Baja Fresh Hall of Fame

Think of all the great women rockers in the 90s leaps and bounds above her.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | April 24, 2024 10:39 AM |
Music culture is extremely fucked up when it comes to women.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | April 24, 2024 10:46 AM |

I know, right?
