Once considered 'the most handsome man in the world'

Omar Borkan Al Gala, an Iraqi photographer, actor and model, was once labeled 'the most handsome man in the world' and 'the most handsome Arab man in the world' by the international press. Born in Baghdad on September 23, 1990, but raised in Dubai, Al Gala received international fame when he (and two other models) received attention from a crowd of girls when they were working at a festival. He said 'the religion police' did not like it, and ordered him to 'leave the festival'. He was accused of performing 'indecent dances' at the festival.

According to a police officer, "the members of the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vices feared that female visitors would fall in love with them." Later, the delegation of Saudi Arabia issued a statement clarifying that Borkan and the other two models were never asked to leave the country, only the festival, and that had nothing to do with being "too handsome," but was related to the unexpected presence on the stand of men, something that challenged the country's custom regarding having women not to interact with men who are not of their family.

In 2015, he married and had a son. In 2018, he split with his wife and moved to Vancouver.
