Six Undiscovered Greek Islands to Explore This Summer

Look beyond the predictable to discover a different side of the Cyclades.

Though Greece is technically comprised of 6,000 islands, 227 of which are inhabited, most visitors flock to the shores of Mykonos and Santorini in the summer months. Venture just a bit further and you’ll discover a smattering of smaller, more quaint islands and islets begging to be discovered, all of which possess the same charming Cycladic appeal as their mainstay neighbors, but without the teeming crowds.

Hi, Greece troll.

Each of the six islands is accessible via ferry ride or speedboat from one of the more mainstream islands, making it easy to tack on a few days of exploration to the front or back end of your trip. You may find that exploring the lesser-known side of the Cyclades is even more tantalizing than the typical destinations, offering up a side of Greece that many visitors never get to experience.

Oh man. For about 1 second I though there were 6 new Greek islands that were genuinely undiscovered. I thought this was a link to a news story and was ready to get psyched about these new islands and how they had gone unnoticed for so long. :(

They treat stray animals horribly in Greece. So badly I can't even describe it, it's that awful. Call me a MARY! but it's for that reason and that reason alone I cannot ever go there.

I saw the headline and thought they'd found Atlantis, or something.

It's a travel brochure. That's nice.

Naxos and Tinos are quite popular, far from "undiscovered".

We stopped in Santorini on our cruise and went to a restaurant. When I asked if they had Ranch for my salad they acted like they didn’t know what I was talking about. That left me a little disappointed with the island.

There are no ranches on Santorini, R13!

by Anonymousreply 14May 4, 2024 1:44 AM

R13 - I was there and dined at the restaurant too. Too bad you didn’t know beforehand but you should’ve asked for “Hidden Valley” that is how ranch dressing is known on Santorini

Which one is the new gay Greek island?

by Anonymousreply 18May 4, 2024 4:09 AM

Naxos is a beautiful island, and it is hardly undiscovered. Greece, like many places in the world these days is suffering from over tourism.
