[bold]ABBA mulls possible reunion: report[/bold]

The legendary Swedish pop group ABBA is mulling a possible reunion next year, singer Agnetha Faltskog said in a German newspaper interview Sunday.

by Anonymousreply 2111/10/2013

"Money, Money, Money".....

by Anonymousreply 2211/10/2013

They may do something in terms of all four appearing somewhere together in celebration of their 40th anniversary, but there is no way they would perform again.

All four have been interviewed recently and they made it clear a reunion will never happen because they're too old now.

by Anonymousreply 2311/11/2013

Ring! Ring! Hello BBA, A calling!

by Anonymousreply 2411/11/2013

Lay All Your Love On Me...

by Anonymousreply 2511/11/2013

OMG I just pissed myself.

by Anonymousreply 2611/11/2013

I want to know what's the name of the game?

by Anonymousreply 2711/11/2013

They can really clean up if they did a reunion tour. Who would be buying the tickets, middle-aged white people with lots of income. It might gross a billion dollars, I wouldn't be surprised. Everyone wants more money.

"It's a rich man's world."

by Anonymousreply 2811/11/2013

Hell has frozen over.

by Anonymousreply 2911/11/2013

R29 Many many many would buy, it would be one of the most profitable tour ever.

by Anonymousreply 3011/11/2013

Why were they opposed to a reunion up until now?

I put up with shitty co-workers I hate, for a hell of lost less money than they stand to make.

by Anonymousreply 3311/11/2013

It was actually more complicated than that.

They were never a great live band, and the older they got, the more awkward it would have been. They knew it, and have said so many times.

Agnetha also had a lot of personal problems -- fear of the public, dating a stalker, some lingering bitterness with Björn.

But they all stayed friends in a way, and appeared with each other for different events -- birthdays for colleagues at Polar, etc. Performing, no.

by Anonymousreply 3411/11/2013

Wow maybe those two old gents who used to call themselves The Beatles will reunite.

by Anonymousreply 3511/11/2013

A girl's gotta eat.

by Anonymousreply 3611/11/2013

Like Led Zepplin, The Grateful Dead, Talking Heads, and The Beatles ABBA stopped performing. All of these groups might have stopped performing, but they stayed together as a business. They have active management. They speak to each other often. With ABBA it gets even more complicated because some members were married. I have been around the live concert business all my life. One of the holy grails sayings of the business is this. Over 75% of all house holds in England own the ABBA Gold album. Having said that I can point to at least 4 other times that band members did not deny the possibility of a reunion. They do it to push the back catalog. They do not need the money at this point. I asked a legendary promotor in the business who has worked with the Stones, and the Beatles what he thought of the possibility and the potential payday. He said he considers it very slim, the only real motivation for the band would be for their children to be able see them perform again. He said that any of the old time promotors, or the newer guys like Richard Branson would jump at the gig because it is literally the ultimate gig, especially for Brits. I asked him what would a tour make? he said on a one off with Merchandising, TV, Radio, and streaming rights maybe 200 million US. If it was a full out year long tour it could be a gross of a Billion, but that would be with over 100 gigs, at huge ticket price. He thinks that everyone needs more money, even though they are all pretty well off. He predicted a 70 - 30 percent against chance that it would ever happen

by Anonymousreply 3711/11/2013

Weren't ABBA notorious for being really inconsistent in live performances? Kind of like The Carpenters - there was no real need to see them live if most of the interesting stuff was done in the studio.

Adding to r38, I think they get tired of answering the question over and over again so depending on the day and their moods they offer answers ranging from "absolutely never" to "never say never."

Keep in mind this announcement comes from an interview Agnetha did with a German newspaper. I don't know what language the interview was conducted in but Agnetha's English has never been great and she admits she hasn't spoken German since the 60s. There's a lot of room for translation issues there.

by Anonymousreply 4011/11/2013

Let's hope that Agnetha and Anni-Frid don't get into a Mary & Diana salary dispute.

by Anonymousreply 4111/11/2013

How I hope this is true, though!

by Anonymousreply 4211/11/2013

Does your mother know?

by Anonymousreply 4311/11/2013

They're all very wealthy and make more money today being happily retired than they ever made when they were still recording and performing as ABBA. They haven't performed in 30 years and have no interest in doing it again.

It's never going to happen. What would be the point?

by Anonymousreply 4411/11/2013

Frida doesn't even sing anymore and Agnetha just started singing again. They could never recreate what they were thirty years ago vocally. It's crazy to think they would even try at this point.

Let them rest in peace.

by Anonymousreply 4511/11/2013

Didn't someone offer them a billion dollars to reunite several years ago? If they didn't take the money then I don't see them reuniting now, and they won't be getting that billion dollars.

Good for her! In 2013 Barbra Streisand concert world, each ticket should go for about $25,000. For the cheap seats.
